Gary W. Rogers

Funeral services for Gary Wayne Rogers will be conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Howard Campbell will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Sunrise Cemetery.
Mr. Rogers, 44, of 2160 Fifth St., Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Fricker, Jimmy Roberts, Bobby Roberts, Tracy Barber, Harold Ketron and Dr. Greg Clarity.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Skorupa

BIG STONE GAP -- Ronald Lee Skorupa, 56, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was born and raised in Norton, a son of Geneva Skorupa of Big Stone Gap and the late Toney John Skorupa. He was a retired long-distance truck driver.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany, was of the Baptist faith and a member of Oles Hill Church of West Norton.
Surviving, besides his mother, are a son, Ronald Lee Skorupa Jr. of Hansonville, Va.; three sisters, Mary Warner of Big Stone Gap, Stella Lane of Appalachia and Linda Sturgill of Norton; two brothers, T.J. Skorupa of Wise and Rusty Skorupa of Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel in Norton. Pastor Larry Adams will officiate. military graveside rites will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Riverview Cemetery in East Stone Gap, Va.
Mr. Skorupa was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Horace W. Warner.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law, Jennifer Skorupa of Hansonville; grandson, Brandon Lee Skorupa of Hansonville; brothers-in-law, Jackie Lane of Appalachia and Larry Sturgill of Norton; sisters-in-law, Linda Skorupa of Wise and Debbie Skorupa of Big Stone Gap; a special friend, Mabel Rogers; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Skorupa, who also called Orlando, Fla., and Houston, Texas, his home, was well-known by his CB handle, "Road Master."
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Hagy Funeral Home.

Charles E. Sowder

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Charles Edward "Eddie" Sowder will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Holston Valley Baptist Church by Farris Funeral Service. The Rev. John Wesley Price and pastor Paul Ketron will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Sowder, 53, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Joe Scyphers, Jerry Lester, Dwight Crane, Darrell Dyson, Hursel Elkins, Larry Moore, Walter White and Robert Fizer. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Widener, Fred Sullins, Hyskel Orfield, J.D. Wise and Clay Rosenbaum.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Ann Stafos

Funeral services for Patricia Ann Stafos will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Rick Light will officiate. The body will be cremated.
Patricia Ann Stafos, 53, of U-7 Rice Terrace, Bristol, Va., died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Clarence E. Steele

SWORDS CREEK, Va. -- Funeral services for Clarence E. Steele will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Leslie Ritchie and the Rev. Lawrence Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Steele, 90, of the Pine Creek Road section, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be the following grandsons, Terry K. Hale, Garry N. Hale, Darrell G. Hale, Curtis E. Steele, Todd M. La Force, Timothy D. La Force, David Steele and Matthew Steele.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma W. Barr

ABINGDON -- Graveside services for Wilma W. Barr will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon by Farris Funeral Service. Pastor Frank Honeycutt will officiate. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Barr, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, 807 E. Main St., P.O. Box 657, Abingdon, VA 24210.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred M. Coleman

GRUNDY -- Mildred Pauline McClanahan Coleman, 71, of the Home Creek section of Route 1, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital.
She was born in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Isaac and Polly Jane Coleman McClanahan, and was a member of Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and the widow of Floyd Coleman.
Surviving are two sisters, Omie Hutchinson and Georgia Fraley, both of Grundy; a brother, Cecil McClanahan of Big Rock, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Michael Trent and Hobert Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Mrs. Coleman was also preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Among survivors are sister-in-law, Betty McClanahan of Big Rock; a special niece, Pauline Wimmer and her son Justin.
Pallbearers will be Frank McClanahan, Cecil McClanahan Jr., Dwayne Keen, Bill Brown, James Wimmer and Gary Hughes.
The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary H. Galloway

Mary Elizabeth Henley Galloway, 90, of Sunnybrook Alzheimers and Healthcare, Raleigh, N.C., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, in Raleigh.
She was born in Mendota, Va., a daughter of the late John H. and Minnie Lee Barker. She was a longtime resident of Bristol, where she was a member of Central Christian Church for 65 years.
She was employed with Barkers Supermarket until her retirement and was the widow of Carl Franklin Henley and V.M. "Jack" Galloway.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn H. Walker of Cary, N.C.; a stepson, William "Billy" Miles Galloway of Woodstock, Ga.; three sisters, Anna Ruth Cheatham Rutledge of Dallas, Ruby Houser of Eaton, Ohio, and Nellie Hopkins of Bristol; a brother, Garland Barker of Bristol; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ross H. Dampier will officiate. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Shelby Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Galloway was also preceded in death by three brothers, Kelly, Clarence and Barton Barker; and two sisters, Nancy King and Virginia Holloway.
Among survivors are son-in-law, Lenier P. Walker of Cary; stepdaughter-in-law, Gwen Galloway of Woodstock; and grandchildren, Amy Walker Mills of Acworth, Ga., Mark Allen Walker of Apex, N.C., Teresa Dobbs of White, Ga., and Paige Galloway Waters and Michael Galloway, both of Woodstock.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Central Christian Church, 425 Melrose St., Bristol, TN 37620 or a charity of one's choice.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William E. Gilbert II

Graveside services for William E. Gilbert II will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in American Legion Cemetery in Powell Valley, Va., by Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Gilbert, 33, of 97 Circle Drive, Bristol, Va., died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was a carpenter. He was a son of William E. Gilbert Sr. and Tishia Helton, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Honaker.
Surviving, besides his parents, are stepfather, William S. Helton of Bristol Virginia; stepbrother, David S. Helton of Bristol Virginia; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Perry C. Hilton.
Among survivors are two uncles; three aunts; several cousins; and numerous step-family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Bertha M. Gross

BLUFF CITY -- Bertha Mae Messimer Gross, 92, of 311 Gross Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel.

Mary L. Horne

NICKELSVILLE, Va. -- Mary L. Horne, 69, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at the home of her sister in Nickelsville.
She was born in Scott County and was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are a sister, Eula Faye Parks of Nickelsville; a half-sister, Jeraleine Davidson of Gate City; two half-brothers, Charlie Gibson of Coeburn and Jimmy Baldwin of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in Collins Chapel in the Long Hollow section of Scott County by Castlewood Funeral Home. The Rev. Jessee Jones will officiate. The body will be taken to the church one hour before services. Burial will be in Banner Cemetery in Dungannon, Va.
Ms. Horne was preceded in death by a half-sister, Regina Baldwin.
Among survivors is her best friend, Angie "Sloopy" Hensley.
Pallbearers will be Arthur J. Hicks, Arthur W. "Huck" Hicks, Harold "Red Eye" Robinson, Jessee Hensley, Isocas Herriah and Burl France.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home or any time at the home of Mary France.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
