Reubin W. Hill
MOUNT DORA, Fla. -- Reubin Ward Hill, 82, formerly of Bristol, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
He was born in Warrior, Ala., a son of the late Reubin and Lethia Brakefield Hill. He had lived in Florida, Tams, W.Va., and Bristol before returning to Florida. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner with 30 years of service. He was of the Jehovah's Witnesses faith.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ruth Day Hill; a daughter, Janice Daugherty of Huntington, W.Va.; a son, Carl E. Hill of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Lisa Elchick, Linda Rosas and Kelly Hill; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Glenwood Cemetery by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home of Bristol Tennessee. Ronald Yelle will officiate. Entombment will follow.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
Juanita Simcox Hutton
BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Juanita Simcox Hutton will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Holston Baptist Church by Weaver Funeral Home. The Revs. Haynes Watson, Jim Crews and Roy Yelton will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Hutton, 75, of 533 Big Springs Road, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a homemaker and member of Holston Baptist Church. She was the widow of Horace Simcox and Earl Hutton.
Surviving are three sons, William Simcox and Terry Simcox, both of Bluff City, and Verlin Simcox of Bristol Tennessee; three daughters, Alta Hughes and Shirley Frye, both of Bluff City, and Kay Tallman of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Naomi Simcox of Blountville and Helen Kendrick of Bristol Tennessee; two half-brothers, Louis Henegar of Bristol Virginia and Dennis Henegar of Florida; a half-sister, Lois Smithy of Bluff City; her stepmother, Elvie Henegar of Bluff City; nine granddaughters; six grandsons; 30 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hutton was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Henegar; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Simcox.
Among survivors are special friend Harold Boughers; and granddaughters Penny Rutherford, Beth Rainey, Debbie Arnold, Teresa Jordan, Lisa Gill, Tammy Kiser, Karen Roberts, Julie Glover and Sherry Hicks.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Mike Hughes, Mark Simcox, Ricky Tallman, Tim Hughes, Jeff Simcox and Randy Frye.

Rita W. Johnson
Rita W. Johnson, 65, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Surviving are her husband of over 42 years, James E. Johnson; three sons, Jimmy, Will and Derek; a sister, Gertrude Whiting of Vero Beach, Fla.; two nieces; and three nephews.
A funeral Mass will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 700 Cumberland St., Bristol, Va. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. A reception will follow the Mass.
Among survivors are son Will's fiancee, Meredith Adams; and daughter-in-law Kimberly.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at their home, 4723 Lake Forest Drive, Hixon, Tenn.

Lawrence Leonard
Lawrence McClellan "B" Leonard of 835 East Mary St., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a son of the late Bertha and Ernest Lee Leonard. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Maude Musselwhite Leonard; a daughter, Brenda Leonard of Bristol Tennessee; six sons, Rex Wayne Leonard, John Haynes Leonard, Wesley David Leonard, Clay Alton Leonard, Roger Dale Leonard and Dwight Darrell Leonard, all of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Landon Haynes Leonard of Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Walter S. Mays
Funeral services for Walter S. "Whitey" Mays will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon. Minister David Gaminde and the Rev. Don Page will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon with graveside military honors by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Mr. Mays, 69, of Bristol Virginia died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in War, W.Va., a son of the late Henry and Nellie Herndon Mays, and had lived in Grundy for 33 years and in Bristol for the past 35 years. He owned and managed the Moonlite Drive-In Theater in Abingdon for 28 years. He was a baseball coach for the Washington County Little League. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 145. While living in Grundy, he was an employee of the Virginia Mountaineer newspaper.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Beulah Dawson Mays; a son, Nathanial Mays of the home; four daughters, Pamela Herman of Bristol Tennessee, Angela Kirkpatrick of Staunton, and Mitzi Kennedy and Belinda Gubala, both of Bristol Virginia; eight grandchildren; and a nephew.
Among survivors are grandchildren Derek and Brad Loudy, Carena and LaTasha Kirkpatrick, Jared Keesee, Jonathan Gubala, Tristan Kennedy and Melissha Herman; and nephew Gerald Mays.
Mr. Mays and his wife recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
The family of Mr. Mays wishes to extend special gratitude to the Bristol Livesaving Crew, Dr. Matthew Wood and the staff and nurses of Bristol Regional Medical Center's Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

CASTLEWOOD -- Margaret J. Helbert Meade, 77, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was born in Russell County, a daughter of the late William Edward and Rosa Jessee Helbert. She was the widow of the Rev. Clarence Meade and a member of Stallard Memorial Independent Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Mildred) Holbrook of Castlewood; three sons, Farrell Meade of Cleveland, Va., and Denver Meade and Gordon Meade, both of Castlewood; three sisters, Catherine Jessee and Mary Ellen Steffey, both of Castlewood, and Mattie Helbert of Nickelsville; five brothers, Fuller Helbert of Kingsport and Cecil Helbert, Glenn Helbert, Jessee Helbert and Clifton Helbert, all of Castlewood; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Darryl Baker, Gene Brooks, Leonard Ferguson and Roy Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mrs. Meade was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Kestner; a son-in-law, LeRoy Kestner; and a grandson, Michael Meade.
Among survivors are three daughters-in-law, Sadie Meade, Ellen Meade and Marie Meade.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- Graveside services for Sgt. Travis Allen Morgan will be conducted Saturday at 3 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with full military honors.
Sgt. Morgan, 25, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in Camp Pendleton.

Nannie K. Salyer
NICKELSVILLE, Va. -- Nannie Ethel Kilgore Salyer, 100, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Scott County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Rebecca McKinney Kilgore. She was the widow of Lundy Culbertson and Whitt Salyer. She was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church of Nickelsville and volunteered with the Mountain Empire Older Citizens until she was 93.
Surviving are a sister, Dana Welch of Warrenton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Nickelsville First Baptist Church by Colonial Funeral Home in Weber City. The Revs. Steve Collins and Avery Nichols will officiate. Music will be by the church choir. The body will be taken to the church an hour before services. Burial will be in Nickelsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Salyer was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Kilgore; and an adopted grandson, Scott Kegley.
Among survivors are a niece and her husband, Reeda and Paul Kegley of Nickelsvile, with whom she had resided for the past 23 years; two adopted grandchildren, Jeff Kegley of Nickelsville and Jennifer Wampler of Lake City, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Kelsi Eastis, Jaren Kegley, Ethan Kegley, Emily Wampler and Noah Wampler.
Pallbearers will be Randy Hartsock, Ricky Hartsock, Robbie Hartsock, Mike Skeen, John Puckett, Roger Burke, Terry Vicars and Benny Skeen. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Odle, Ray Hartsock, Howard Elliott, Dewey Salyer and Thomas Hillman.
