Funeral services for James Donald "Pete" Singleton will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Elders Leonard Barton, Darrell Davis and Danny
Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military rites by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Mr. Singleton, 72, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Steve Osborne, John Henley, Matt Fouch, Joe Mullins, Charles Whitt and Taylor Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dotson, Joe Tate, Bill Lawson, Cecil Kelly, James Hagy and Gary Singleton.

Glenn P. Stophel
FORT PAYNE, Ala. -- Glenn Preston Stophel, 75, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Fort Payne.
He was born in Bristol Tennessee, a son of the late George L. and Mary Rachel Burke Stophel. He was the widower of Dorothy Gregory Stophel. He retired from TVA with more than 44 years of service.
Surviving are four daughters, Diana Brisendine, Darlene Hester and Donna Hairston, all of Fort Payne, and Deborah
Williams of Rossville, Ga.; two sons, Lonnie Stophel of Fort Payne and Wayne Stophel of Cullman; a brother, Harold Stophel of Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Carolyn Murray of Bristol Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Fort Payne.

John T. Woods Jr.
CASTLEWOOD -- John T. Woods Jr., 75, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
He was born in Dante, a son of the late John Thomas and Carrie Bell Royal Woods. He was retired from Clinchfield Coal Co. with 27 years of service and was a member of UMWA Local 2274. He was a member of St. Paul Assembly of God in St. Paul.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Nell Hartsock Woods; four daughters, Barbara J. Woods of Castlewood, Brenda W. Kiser of Abingdon, Edna W. Sluss of Kingsport and Kathy W. Ramey of Salem; four sons, Robert J. Woods of Vienna, James W. Woods and John T. Woods III, both of Castlewood, and Michael K. Woods of Bristol Tennessee; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 14 nieces; and 11 nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Branch will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mr. Woods was also preceded in death by a son, David Wayne Woods; a brother; and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Dennis J. Woods, Justin Sluss, Drew Kiser, James R. Kiser, Jess Wagner, Arthor Wagner and Eddie Meade.

CLIFFIELD, Va. -- Funeral services for Roy Sherman "Chuck" Ball will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Rev. Buddy Herald will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Mr. Ball, 69, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.

Bessie E. Branson
RURAL RETREAT, Va. -- Bessie E. Branson, 77, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Bristol Tennessee and lived in Bristol before moving to Rural Retreat in 1961. She was a former employee of Gordon Garment and Rural Retreat Garment Factory and attended the Church of God in Wytheville, where she taught Sunday school and was the pianist.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years John H. Branson; a daughter, Mary F. Leonard of Bristol Virginia; a son, Richard Branson of Pulaski; two sisters, Letitia Branson of Salinas, Calif., and Blanche Shores of Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Willie O'Neal of Bristol Virginia and Donald O'Neal and Howard O'Neal, both of Bristol Tennessee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Roy Branson and W.T. Meredith will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Barry Branson, Jerry Shipp, Leslie Leonard, Wayne Barger, Philip Branson, Bruce Leonard and Wayne Burkette.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home or other times at the home of her daughter, 43 Hillside Ave., Bristol, Va.

BLOUNTVILLE -- Funeral services for Paul Richard Denton will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Sunday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Walter Statzer will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Morrell Cemetery.
Mr. Denton, 64, of 841 Fairview School Road, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bluff City and Blountville areas and a son of the late Charles C. and Melvina L. Denton. He was a foreman with Amerace Corp. and a former employee of Big Jack Manufacturing Co. He was of the Baptist faith and the widower of Anna Lee
Johnson Denton.
Surviving are his wife, Opal Spears Denton; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Sue) Chappell of Blountville; a son, Jason Denton of Bristol Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Lisa Whisman of Bristol Tennessee; a stepson, Travis Dunn of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Shirley Stout and Florence Denton, both of Bluff City; two brothers, Herb Denton and Gene Denton, both of Piney Flats; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Amerace Corp.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and other times at the home of his daughter, Sue, 247 Pamela Court, Blountville.

COEBURN -- Teressa Ellen Hamilton, 44, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
She was a daughter of Jeff and Shelby Nixon of Coeburn, a member and pastor of Banner Assembly of God and a member of the Pastoral Association of the Assembly of God.
Surviving, besides her parents, are her husband, Clifford Hamilton; two sons, Matthew R. Hamilton and Israel Dale Hamilton, both of Coeburn; a daughter, Meghan Gail Hamilton of Coeburn; a sister, Teena Ray of Coeburn; a brother, Robert Nixon Jr. of Coeburn; a granddaughter; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Banner Assembly of God by Estes Funeral Home. The Revs. Robert Nixon Jr. and Jeff Carico will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.
Among survivors are her extended church family.

Cecil M. Harless
WHITESBURG, Tenn -- Cecil M. Harless, 79, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000.
He was a member of Robertson Creek Baptist Church, VFW Post 5266 and Kyle Lodge 422. He was a veteran of World War II and a recipient of a Bronze Star. He retired from Jeffrey Chain.
Surviving are his wife, Alicene "Cindy" Harless; three sons, Howard Harless, Clyde Harless and Kenneth Nash; three daughters, Bettie Birgen, Mildred Hackney and Linda Myers; a sister, Emilee; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown. The Rev. Gary Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Hamblen Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Post 5266.
Mr. Harless was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a son, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Hill, 82, formerly of Bristol, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.
