Penny M. Hurd

KINGSPORT -- Penny Matney Hurd, 40, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Richard and Magdalene Matney, a member of Christian Fellowship Church and a member of AACN.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Hurd; a stepson, John Henry Hurd of Montpelier, Ohio; four sisters, Barbara M. Garrett of Winston-Salem, N.C., Richalene M. Lester of Kingsport and Glenda Matney and Donna M. Fleming, both of Defiance, Ohio; two brothers, Richard Matney III of Defiance and Terry Lee Matney of Grundy; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Christian Fellowship Church by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Colonial Heights Chapel. Elmer Lester will officiate. Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Simpson, Rick Page, John H. Hurd, Buddy Lester, T.J. Garrett and Rages Matney.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Colonial Heights Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

Noah A. Jenkins Jr.

Johnson CITY -- Noah A. Jenkins Jr., 66, of 627 East Pine St., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born of Johnson City, a son of the late Noah A. Jenkins Sr. and Nora Nichols Jenkins. He had lived most of his life in Johnson City, was a retired truck driver, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and member of Johnson City VFW Post 2108. He was a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are six sisters, Pauline Gallamore of Paris, Tenn., Isabel Hunt, Christine Riddle and Louise Austin, all of Johnson City, Bessie Brummitt of Eliabethton, and Ann Glover of Holland, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home.

Rita W. Johnson

A funeral Mass for Rita W. Johnson will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 700 Cumberland St., Bristol, Va. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. A reception will follow the Mass.
Mrs. Johnson, 65, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at their home, 4723 Lake Forest Drive, Hixon, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Leukemia Society of America, Emmanuel Episcopal Church or a charity of choice.
Bill Clair Family Mortuary of Houston is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Leonard

Funeral services for Lawrence McClellan "B" Leonard will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. Don White will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Leonard of 835 East Mary St., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
Pallbearers will be Roy Leonard, Ron Leonard, Howard Musselwhite, Ronnie Gorley, Ernest Leonard and Dave Perry.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pauline McClellan

ABINGDON -- Pauline McClellan died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Huff-Cook Funeral Home in Castlewood, Va.

Margaret H. Meade

CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Margaret J. Helbert Meade will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Darryl Baker, Gene Brooks, Leonard Ferguson and Roy Kennedy will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mrs. Meade, 77, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Steven Meade, Tony Price, Gary Price, Chris Kestner and Joe Holbrook Jr.; and a son, Farrell Meade. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Holliday and Ernie Keith.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Castlewood Funeral Home.

George E. Patterson Jr.

George Edward Patterson Jr., 34, of 221 Johnson St., Bristol, Va., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at his home.
He was a son of Mary Yvonne Patterson of Bristol Virginia and the late George E. Patterson Sr. He was of the Protestant faith and a graduate of Virginia High School. He was a former employee of ARA, working at Virginia Intermont College.
Surviving, besides his mother, are a sister, Stephanie Lynn Patterson of Frederick, Md.; his maternal grandmother, Aquila Banks of Bristol Virginia; and a niece.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Mortuary.

Gwendolyn L. Puckett

MEADOWVIEW -- Gwendolyn L. Puckett, 94, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and most recently had lived with a daughter in Bristol. She was a member of Fellowship Chapel and the widow of Dewey Puckett.
Surviving are two sons, Bob Puckett of Bristol Virginia and Ralph Puckett of Flint, Mich.; two daughters, Betty Leonard of Bristol Tennessee and Dorothy Barker of Bristol Virginia; a brother, Miles Moore of Meadowview; a sister, Lucille Wallace of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Scott Price and Lester MacKinnon will officiate. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:40 a.m. Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Farris Funeral Service.

Edd Shelton

DORAN, Va. -- Funeral services for Edd Shelton will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Revs. Ralph Horton and Bob Osborne will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Mr. Shelton, 81, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
He was born in Dante, a son of the late Tom and Minnie Tackett Shelton, both Dante natives. He had lived in the Doran and Raven areas most of his life. He was a retired coal miner, member of United Mine Workers of America Local Union 1564 of Jewell Valley and attended Richlands Tabernacle. He was the widower of Freda Smith Shelton.
Surviving are two daughters, Polly Carter and Connie Shelton, both of Doran; a son, Joe Randall Shelton of Pounding Mill; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shelton was also preceded in death by two daughters, Mereline Shelton Cantrell and Lola Mae Whited; and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Oris Shelton, Steve Shelton, Steven Vance, James Dye, Norman Arrington, Eli Meadows and Mike Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Meadows, Charlie Arms and Mark Newberry.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday in Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.

Donita Faye Surrett

DANTE -- Donita Faye Surrett, 35, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Castlewood Funeral Home.

Julia G. Tester

BLUFF CITY -- Julia Grace Tester, 89, of 209 Graybeal Road died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in Bristol Tennessee.
She was born in Washington County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Carrier Lyons. She was of the Pentecostal faith, a homemaker and the widow of Paul "Shorty" Tester.
Surviving are four daughters, Helen Jeanette Graybeal, Jewell T. Barnett, Paulette Miller and Judy L. Botts, all of Bluff City; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel. The Revs. Bill Reeves and Walter Statzer will officiate. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sunrise Cemetery. Ministers, pallbearers and friends should meet at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Tester was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be selected from grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Fred Greear, the Rev. Billy Rosenbalm, Jeff Broyles, Wesley Berg, "June Bug" Lyons and Dave Lyons.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Jewell T. Barnett, 1036 Dry Branch Road, Bluff City.
Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
