Georgia McLaughlin

MARION -- Graveside services for Georgia McLaughlin will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rose Lawn Cemetery by Barnett's Marion Funeral Home. The Rev. Herman Cress will officiate. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Mrs. McLaughlin, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Corbett and Pearl Barker Testerman and the widow of Thomas M. McLaughlin.
Surviving are three daughters, Cindy McCoy of Chilhowie and Mary K. McLaughlin and Sara M. Burchett, both of Marion; two sons, David C. McLaughlin of Pulaski and Michael A. Henry of Marion; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Among survivors are sons-in-law Greg McCoy, Larry Testerman and Lewis "Jr." Burchett; daughter-in-law Debbi Martin; and sisters-in-law Beezy Testament and family and Gladys Testerman and family; and a special friend, Sally.
Barnett's Marion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lula Mae Mercer

RICHLANDS -- Lula Mae Mercer, 86, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Jewell Ridge, a daughter of the late Richard and Linnie Smith White. She was a member of Richlands Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in the women's work. She was the widow of Claude Reedy and Paul T. Mercer.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Curtis (Ruby) Mabe of Pasadena, Md., and Mrs. Kenneth (Joan) Wysor of Richlands; a son, James Edward (Jim "Heavy") Reedy of Richlands; a sister, Evelyn Kinder of Jewell Ridge; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Rev. Catherine Carpenter will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill.
Mrs. Mercer was also preceded in death by a son, Raymond Rudolph Reedy; three sisters, Martha Delilah McGlothlin, Elizabeth Shelton and Erma Maxwell; and a brother, Ira White.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Helen Reedy of Richlands; sister-in-law Opal White of Lynchburg; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Singleton Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Richlands Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 446, Richlands, VA 24609.

Mary V. Miller

Mary V. "Seay" Miller of 2501 Osborne St., Bristol, Va., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.

Ruth M. Miller

ELIZABETHTON -- Graveside services for Ruth M. Miller will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Ruth M. Miller, 87, of 1112 Lyndale Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Among survivors are two daughters, Jane Brooks of Bristol Tennessee and Mary Anne Martin of Washington, N.C.; sons-in-law John Brooks of Bristol Tennessee and Bob Martin of Washington, N.C.; daughters-in-law Maggie Miller and Mary Lou Miller, both of Elizabethton; and foster son-in-law Dick Wheeler of Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Miller, Aaron Brooks, Cameron Brooks, Traye Harrison, Chuck Wheeler and Dayton Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow members of Grace Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Building Fund of Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad St., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary E. Newman

Graveside services for Mary E. Newman will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Newman, 82, a resident of Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville and formerly of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Peterson

BLUFF CITY -- Graveside services for John "J.C." Peterson will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Morrell Cemetery. Ministers, pallbearers and friends should meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. to attend the service.
John "J.C." Peterson, 69, of 758 Vickers Road died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Jacksboro, a son of the late John and Bessie Wilson Peterson. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.
Surviving are his wife, Ilene Marie Peterson; a daughter, Debra Scott of Bluff City; four sons, Randall Peterson and Tracy Peterson, both of Warren, Ohio, and Mark Peterson and Scott Peterson, both of Bluff City; four sisters, Vola Marcum of Bloomfield, Ohio, Cynthia Smith of Clinton, Patsy Burton of Jacksboro and Linda Jones of Kingston; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are son-in-law Larry Scott of Bluff City; daughters-in-law Jody Peterson of Warren and Joyce Peterson and Freida Peterson, both of Bluff City; brothers-in-law Paul Marcum of Bloomfield and R.L. Burton of Jacksboro; and a special brother-in-law, Sherman Light of Church Hill.
Pallbearers will be men of Grace Baptist Church and Larry Scott. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren of John "J.C." Peterson.
The family received friends in the church Friday and other times at the residence.
Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie G. Price

LEBANON -- Funeral services for Mattie G. Price will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Russell County Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Jerry Eggers and Brent Logan, and Paul Young will officiate. Burial will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Price, 97, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Price, Chester Price, Wayne Price, Greg Price, Cliff Price, Mark Price, Eric Price, Daniel Price and Dickie Price.
Russell County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Perry R. Rice

Perry R. Rice, 70, of Bristol Tennessee died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Anderson, S.C., a son of the late Donnie D. Rice and Nellie Ann Strickland Rice. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was employed by Burlington Industries for 21 years, retiring as plant manager in 1980. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Lion's Club and Board of Directors of Bristol Memorial Hospital and the Salvation Army.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Bowen Rice; three daughters, Terry R. Moody of Orange, Va., Anna R. Wright of Elon College, N.C., and Cindy R. Weatherly of Blountville; a brother, Don D. Rice of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a sister, Danielle Holland of Surfside Beach, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service will be conducted Monday.
Mr. Rice was also preceded in death by son-in-law Eric W. Weatherly.
Among survivors are grandchildren Nicole, Rachel and Daniel Moody, Jimmy and Erin Wright, and Eric Ray and Heather Weatherly; sons-in-law Dan R. Moody and James R. Wright.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.

Effie G. Riley

Effie Gordon Riley, 90, of Grand Court, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was born in Mercer County, Ky., a daughter of the late Thomas Hutchinson Gordon and Effie Williams Gordon. She was a homemaker and a member of Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband of 69 years, Roy Lee Riley; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Susan R.) Faucette of Bristol Tennessee; and three nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Ky. The Rev. Les Rust will officiate. The body has been taken to McClellan Funeral Home in Harrodsburg.
Among survivors are nieces, Jean Price Lowe of Lexington, Ky., Emma Katherine Davenport of Richmond and Jean L. Buchanan of Nicholasville, Ky.
Memorial contributions may be sent to United Presbyterian Church, 326 S. Main, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Bertha C. Rose

CLINTWOOD -- Bertha Cox Rose, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Dickenson County Medical Center in Clintwood.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and the widow of Smith Cox.
Surviving are her husband, Paul Rose; a son, Robert Rose of Champmanville, W.Va.; four daughters, Vivian C. Phipps, Ava Rose, Patsy Mullins and Jenny Mullins, all of Clintwood; a brother, Daniel Thacker of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Georgie Hill of Princeton, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 11 a.m. in Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Franklin Hall will officiate. Burial will be in McFall Cemetery, Route 2, Clintwood.
Mrs. Rose was also preceded in death by a son, Floyd Randall Cox.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews and sons-in-law.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Saturday in Clintwood Funeral Home.
