Deward W. George

KINGSPORT -- Deward W. George, 89, of 262 Dee Lee Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in the Veterans Affairs Nursing Care Unit in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was born in Wise County, Va., a son of the late Joe L. and Anna Dora Thomas George, and was a member of Pactolus United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple heart.
He was employed with Southern Oxygen and retired from Hertz Trucking in Miami, Fla.
He was the widower of Blanche Ruth Fields George.
Surviving are a son, Bill George of Kingsport; two daughters, (Betty) Jo Ragle of Rogersville, Tenn., and Shelby Edge of Florida; two sisters, Hazel Baker of Gray, Tenn.., and Helen Shell of Kingsport; a brother, Gordon George of Sulfur, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Henry will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors by the American Legion Hammond Post 3 of Kingsport.
Mr. George was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert George; and a sister, Claire George.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law, Jean George of Kingsport; son-in-law, Darryl Edge of Florida; brother-in-law, John Baker of Gray; and sister-in-law, Shirley George of Sulfur.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and any time at the home of a sister, Hazel Baker, 102 Gage Lane, in Gray; a son, Bill George, 1585 Fort Henry Drive 3-H in Kingsport or a daughter, Jo Ragle, 728 Burem Road in Rogersville.
East Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Venetia T. Green

KINGSPORT -- Venetia Louise Tarter Green, 42, of 845 Dale St., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000.
She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport, a daughter of Joyce Tarter of Kingsport, and was a member of Full Gospel Mission Church.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving, besides her mother, are her husband, Isaac Green; a daughter, Alexis Domique Tarter of Kingsport; two sons, Bobby S. Tarter and Jermal R. Tarter, both of Kingsport; a brother, Michael K. Tarter of Kingsport; six sisters, Wanda L. Daniels, Valarie A. Williams, Paimyria I. Tarter, Truda A. Hall, Jackie Ross and Dana Skaggs, all of Kingsport; and several nieces nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Services.

Nancy Grizzle

CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Nancy Grizzle will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Riverside Baptist Church, River Road, Castlewood, by Castlewood Funeral Home. The Rev. John A. Kiser will officiate. Burial will be in Kiser Cemetery in Carbo, Va.
Miss Grizzle, 45, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell McReynolds, Scottie Williams, Doug Lawson, Jeff Chandler and Calvin Dwayne Grizzle. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Dwight Bailey.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Grundon

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. -- Funeral services for Stanley Earl Grundon will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Patrick Brownell will officiate.
Mr. Grundon, 70, of Dooley St., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center.
He was born in St. Clair County, Mo., a son of the late Carl and Leta Carson Grundon.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, serving 23 years. He was a master sergeant in the Armored Infantry Division during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Woodrum Grundon; four daughters, Mary Sanders and Peg Grundon, both of Nashville, Anne Grundon of Bristol Virginia and Elizabeth Grundon of Crossville; a son, William Grundon of Crossville; two sisters, Martha Grundon of Euless, Texas, and Gwen Coleman of Sherman, Texas; three brothers, Donald Grundon and Harold Grundon, both of Centralia, Ill., and Charles Grundon of Derby, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Grundon was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Grundon; and a brother, Carl Grundon Jr.
Pallbearers will be members of The Knights of Columbus.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Alphonsus Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Bilbrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond D. Hess

HONAKER -- Funeral services for Raymond Dallas Hess will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Larry Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon with military graveside honors by VFW Post 9640 of Richlands and DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County, Va.
Mr. Hess, 70, of Dogwood Street, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in a Johnson City hospital.
Pallbearers will be Alex Hess, Stevie Hess, Jared Clark, Darrell Stoots, Heath Dye, Ronnie Coleman, Terry Snead, Paige Stoots, T.J. Massie and Robbie Compton. Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Crabtree, Bill Stinson, Millard Cook, Emory Street, David Hart and Marvin Farmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Quillen College of Medicine, P.O. Box 70694, Johnson City, TN 37614.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret E. Huff

BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Margaret E. Huff will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in the Chapel at King College. The Revs. Andrew White and Steve Meyerhoff and Dr. Greg Jordan will officiate. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories at Glenwood Cemetery. The Revs. Andrew White and Larry Stallard will officiate.
Mrs. Huff, 48, of 328 Beaver Road, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Evans Steele.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday in King's Chapel.

Helen M. Knoll

MARION -- Helen Privett McCormick Knoll, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late Esther and Ambrose Privett and a member of East End Baptist Church in Marion.
She was the widow of Howard McCormick Sr.
Surviving are three sons, Howard McCormick and Don McCormick, both of Marion, and David McCormick of Atkins, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Taylor and Betty Widner, both of Marion; a brother, Riley "June" Privett of Annandale, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Bradley's Funeral Home. The Revs. Paul Jones and Ron Whitener will officiate. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery in Adwolfe.
Mrs. Knoll was also preceded in death by a son, Gary; and a brother, Bill Privett.
Among survivors are grandchildren, Randy McCormick, Ricky McCormick, Tony McCormick and Jessica McCormick; daughters-in-law, Brenda, Joyce and Carol; and granddaughter-in-law, Debbie.
Mrs. Knoll was a very devoted mother, grandmother and mother-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Bradley's Funeral Home.

Joyce Young Leedy

Joyce Young Leedy, 69, of 5 Euclid Ave., Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She had lived in Bristol for the past 39 years and was a daughter of the late Asa and Nellie Young. She was employed by ITT for 17 years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Jack D. Leedy; and a sister, Mary Dickey of Princeton, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel by Weaver Funeral Home. The Revs. Rayton Puckett, Bob Steele and Brad Davis will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and members of Antioch Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. one hour prior to the service in the Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
