Igenter W.L. McCoy Sr.

CHESAPEAKE -- Igenter W.L. .McCoy Sr. of the 2700 block of Whitestone Ave. died Sept. 6, 1999.

Born in Princess Anne County, he was retired from Virginia Natural Gas Co. and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie E. McCoy of the home; three daughters, Kathleen D. McCoy of Reston, Va., Angela Holloway of Hinesville, Ga., and Vegina C. McCoy of Manassas, Va.; a son, Igenter W.L. McCoy Jr. of Chesapeake; two sisters, Frances Russell of Virginia Beach and Ardeliou Godfrey of Chesapeake; four brothers, Leonard McCoy, Frank McCoy and Clifton McCoy, all of Virginia Beach, and Charlie McCoy of Woodbridge, Va.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Dr. William D. Scott. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Minnie E. Blunt

NORFOLK -- Minnie E. Blunt, 86, of the 900 block of Appomattox St., passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999, in her residence.

Affectionately known as ``Sister," she was born in the South Hill section of Chesapeake to the late William and Marriah Clemmons. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Blunt, and two sons, Cordell Hill and Willie Hill Jr.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory three daughters, Barbara L. Hill, Loretta H. Foster and Constance H. Dozier, all of Norfolk; a son, Alexander R. Hill Sr. of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Malinda C. Sparrow of Norfolk and Altanell C. Olds of Chesapeake; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in the chapel of Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John H. Colley Jr.

NORFOLK -- John Herman Colley Jr., 56, of the 2500 block of Woolsey St., died Sept. 8, 1999, at a local hospital.

He was born in Norfolk, the son of the late J. Herman Colley Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Colley. He was retired civil service from Norfolk Naval Base after 31 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Gliceria ``Glacey" Colley; two daughters, Jennifer A. Kool of Virginia Beach and Colleen C. Koch of Portland, Ore.; a stepdaughter, Enrica Baylosis of Norfolk; two sons, John Byrd of Courtland, Va., and Sean James Colley of Virginia Beach; a stepson, Alain Baylosis of Norfolk; two sisters, Phyllis C. Cooke and her husband, Eddie C. Cooke Sr., and Margaret C. Gunter and her husband, W.M. ``Bill" Gunter, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Patrick Colley.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by the Revs. Franklin D. Howlett and Richard Baker. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.

Lillian Z. Goldstein

NORFOLK -- Lillian Zacks .Goldstein, 101, formerly of 118 Marcy St., died Sept. 7, 1999. She was the widow of Philip H. Goldstein and was predeceased by her daughter, Frances G. Reingold. She is survived by her daughter, Ireene G. Winn and her husband, Jeffrey Winn; four grandchildren, Nancy Winn Hackney, Robert B. Winn, Rose R. Sherman and Beth R. Brown; and six great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at noon Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Rabbi Lawrence Forman. Due to recent family illness, please call the family at 588-6807 prior to making a sympathy visit. Contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Zsanique N. Jones

NORFOLK -- Infant Zsanique .Naylyn Jones of the 1300 block of Little Bay Ave. died Sept. 5, 1999, at a local hospital. She was born in Norfolk.

She is survived by her parents, Karita Smiley Jones and William Jones III of Norfolk; maternal grandmother, Linda McLaurin of Norfolk; paternal grandparents, William and Doris Jones of Norfolk; an aunt, LaQuitta McLaurin of Norfolk; and a host of aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.

Ok Hoon Kim

NORFOLK -- Ok Hoon Kim, 58, passed away Sept. 6, 1999. Mr. Kim was a native of Korea, and moved to the United States in March of 1993. He had served in the Korean Marine Corps, and was a graduate of Inha University in Korea, where he achieved a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was the owner of the Pic-N-Go Market in Norfolk, and a member of the Tidewater Korean Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Moon Ja Kim; his father, Deuk Chun Kim; one son, Tan Kim and his wife, In Seol Cho; one brother, Pastor Jung Hoon Kim; four sisters, Jung Hee Kim, Jung Sook Kim, Jung Soon Kim and Jung Nyo Kim; and 11 nieces and nephews.

A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, Virginia Beach, by Pastor Ji Duk Dho. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

William D. Laughinghouse

NORFOLK -- William Duval Laughinghouse died Sept. 6, 1999, at his residence. He was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Pamlico County, N.C., and was the son of the late William Junius and Ola Dunn Laughinghouse.

He served in World War II as a flight instructor for the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1981, he retired as a past officer and director of The Daily Press and Times Herald Inc. Since 1951, he was a member of the Khedive Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and past director of the Royal Order of the Jesters Norfolk Court No. 75.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth C. Laughinghouse; two sons, Henry L. Laughinghouse of New Bern, N.C., and William Duval Laughinghouse Jr. of Danville, Va.; two brothers, Ward J. Laughinghouse of New Bern and Alton D. Laughinghouse of Atlantic Beach, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at New Bern Memorial Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Bill Wingard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital, c/o Khedive Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23320. Bryant Funeral Home, Alliance, N.C., is handling arrangements.

Jermaine M. Liles

NORFOLK -- Jermaine Maurice Liles of the 1500 block of Fleetwood Ave. died Sept. 6, 1999, at his residence.

Born in Norfolk, Mr. Liles was employed as an Oriental rug cleaner at Scott Rug Cleaners.

He is survived by two sons, Brent and Trent Morris; his mother, Agnes N. Liles; his father, Aaron Owens; a sister, Frances Cox and husband, Gerard; three brothers, Junius Liles, Eric Liles and wife, Cynethia, and Carnelius Liles; nephews, Gerrell Cox, Christain Cox and Junius Liles III; and niece, Erica Liles.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, by the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. Friends may join the family at 1344 Godfrey Ave. Graves Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Amelia F. Myrick

NORFOLK -- Amelia Foster .Myrick, 66, of the 8300 block of Norristown Drive, died Sept. 7, 1999, in her home. She was a retired schoolteacher and taught at Granby High School.

Mrs. Myrick was a native of Amarillo, Texas. She was a loving spirit and avid quilter who will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Myrick of Norfolk; her son, Paul Myrick of Washington; two sisters; and two granddaughters, Tiffany and Sabrina Myrick.

Helen B. Perkins

NORFOLK -- Helen B. Perkins of the 7000 block of Auburn Ave. died Sept. 5, 1999.

She is survived by four daughters, Karita M. Costict, Ernestine Perkins, Willa P. Phillips and Gwendolyn C. Perkins; a son, James B. Perkins; her mother, Ceola K. McNeil; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul C.M.E. Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery. Friends may join the family at 6955 E. Tanners Creek Drive. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Beverly S. Shine

NORFOLK -- Beverly S. Shine, 84, of the 8500 block of Culfor Crescent, died Sept. 7, 1999.

Born in Wolfe City, Texas, she was a retired resident manager for Capital Associates. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of Chesapeake Bay Artist Association.

The widow of Bernard T. Shine, she is survived by a daughter, Mary Coulsting; two sons, Michael B. Shine and Stephen C. Shine, all of Norfolk; and grandsons Tommy Shine, Brian Shine and Donnie Coulsting.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery by Fr. Lou Ruoff. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel.

Helen W. Taylor

NORFOLK -- Helen Wickham .Taylor, M.D., died Sept. 7, 1999, in Ghent Arms Retirement Residence in Norfolk. She was born in 1919 in China, the daughter of Harry Baylor Taylor of Norfolk and Alma Booth of Petersburg.

Dr. Taylor graduated from Chatham Hall, Chatham, Va., and from Sweetbriar College with the Algernon Sidney Sullivan Award. Her medical degree was earned from The University of Virginia. Following postgraduate training in Obstetrics, she went to China in 1948 to work with her father and mother as a medical missionary of the Episcopal Church.

Following a very difficult time under the communists, she returned in 1951 to complete her training and set up a private practice of obstetrics and gynecology in Norfolk. In 1970, she became the director of the Family Planning Clinic for the Norfolk Health Department, from which she retired in 1981.

Dr. Taylor was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa as a previous graduate by Sweetbriar College in 1953. She was a Board Certified Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology; she became the president of the Medical Staff at DePaul, and was a member of the medical staffs of Norfolk General and Leigh Memorial Hospitals. She served on the Vestry of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church and was president of the Soroptomist Club of Norfolk.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Taylor Hollowell of Norfolk and Beverly Gilliam Cross of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a brother, Harry Baylor Taylor Jr., M.D., of Norfolk; and eight nieces and four nephews.

The family will be at the residence, 7453 St. Francis Lane, Norfolk, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial services will be held at Christ and St. Luke's Church on Friday at noon. Contributions may be sent to the Helen W. Taylor Fund at Christ and St. Luke's Church, W. Olney Road, Norfolk VA 23507. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Laura E. Wilder

NORFOLK -- Laura Estelle Wilder, 90, of the 5300 block of E. Princess Anne Road, died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Wilder was born in Hubbard Springs, Va., and was the daughter of the late Harvey Lee and Cora Bell Covey Grubb. She was the widow of the late Ellis Rhea Wilder. Mrs. Wilder retired after 35 years as a teacher with the Norfolk Public School System, where she taught at Broadcreek Village Elementary and Sherwood Forest Elementary. Following her retirement in 1956, she taught at Victory Christian Day School. She was a member of Ferebee-Halstead United Methodist Church, Norfolk, and the Westminster Chapter No. 99, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her two sons, Bobby C. Wilder of Chesapeake and Edward Ray Wilder of Norfolk; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge.

Alma G. Bradford

PORTSMOUTH -- Alma Gatti Bradford died Aug. 6, 1999, in Williamsburg.

She was born in Portsmouth, where she lived most of her very long life.

Mrs. Bradford is survived by two daughters, Eleanor B. Tunell of Columbia, S.C., and Audrey B. Saupe of Williamsburg; a brother, George E. Rowley of Washington, Vt.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, with the Right Rev. C. Charles Vache and the Rev. Julia Dorsey .Loomis officiating. Burial will be in the historic Trinity churchyard.

Frederick J. Carter

PORTSMOUTH -- Frederick John Carter, 86, of the 400 block of Robin Hood Road, died Sept. 8, 1999, in a local hospital.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., he had retired as an administrative officer from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 35 years of service. He was a member of West Park Church of Christ and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. From 1975 to 1977, he was president of the Crisis Center Board of Directors. From 1976 to 1995, he was the assistant librarian for Patron Services at Latter Day Saint Genealogical Library. He was a past worshipful master of Churchland Masonic Lodge No. 276, A.F.&A.M., a charter member and secretary of Western Branch Masonic Lodge No. 189, A.F.&A.M. from 1949 to 1960, a charter scribe of William Chapman Royal Arch Chapter 74, high priest from 1950 to 1951, and assistant director of Work Portsmouth Consistory of Scottish Rite in 1954, charter member. On Nov. 15, 1979, he received the degree of Thrice Illustrations Master at Richmond and on Oct. 1951, was a member of Khedive Temple of the Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Inez Carter; a daughter, Ada Lee Sojourner of Chesapeake; a stepdaughter, Darlene Milton of Portsmouth; a son, Frederick Anthony ``Tony" Carter of Tucson, Ariz.; a stepson, Sonny Maxwell; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mamie Ruth Carter.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Park Church of Christ by Pastor Keith Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites to be accorded at the grave. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Family and friends are invited to the church following the services.
