Martha R. Finch

NORFOLK -- Martha ``Rose" Rosalyn Finch, 81, of the 8500 block of Old Ocean View Road, died Sept. 8, 1998, at a local hospital.

A native of Granville County, N.C., she was a member of South Brookley United Methodist Church in Mobile, Ala.

Survivors include her husband, William Fredrick Finch; two daughters, Joyce Robey of Virginia Beach and Loyce Lawson of Fairfax, Va.; three grandchildren, Wade Foreman, Rick Foreman, both of Norfolk, and Laura Walker of Fairfax; and one great-grandchild, Nicholas Foreman of Norfolk.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Gary Ausburn. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Leatha V. Johnson

NORFOLK -- Leatha Virginia Johnson, 95, of the 1500 block of Norcova Ave., died in Bayside Health Care on Sept. 7, 1998.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Lynchburg, Va., and was the widow of Joseph P. Johnson. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include five daughters, Emma Elizabeth Rogers of Hammond, Ind., Elsie Mae Sawyer, Frances Jelinek, Doris Aileen Brown, all of Norfolk, and Margaret Louise Evans of Lynchburg; and two sons, Harvey DeWitt Johnson of Lynchburg and Bobby Edward Sawyer of Virginia Beach. She had 145 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Rosewood Memorial Park. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Mildred L. Parker

NORFOLK -- Mildred L. Parker, 49, of the 800 block of Charlotte St., died Sept. 5, 1998.

Born in Nansemond County, Va., she was a daughter of Sarah Parker and Arcelius Parker. She was employed at St. Mary's Infant Home, Norfolk, and a member of Family Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carlette Parker and Kizzie Newby; two sons, Vincent E. Parker and Carlton Parker; four sisters, Evelyn Gould, Barbara Parker, Shirley Burton and Carolyn Parker; four brothers, George Parker, Jerry Parker, Eugene Parker and Arcelius Parker Jr.; and her fiance, Richard Newby Jr.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday at Martin Luther King Jr. United Methodist Church by the Rev. Raymond Powell. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.

Ruth V. Phelps

NORFOLK -- Ruth V. Phelps of the 2800 block of Merrimac Court, died Sept. 4, 1998. A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Garrett's Community Church, Norfolk. Hale Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret D. Smith

NORFOLK -- Margaret Decker Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998.

She was born in Circleville, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clifford H. Decker. Mrs. Smith was the widow of Howard Harrison Smith.

She is survived by three daughters, Lynda Sue Googe of Cordova, Tenn., Saundra Lee Calleran of Richmond and Julia Anne Kidwell of Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a later date in Virginia Beach Community Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Virginia Beach Community Chapel, 1261 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23454. Cremation Society of Virginia, Tidewater Office, is handling arrangements.

Annie Thomas

NORFOLK -- Annie Thomas, 101, of the 200 block of W. 26th St., died Sept. 6, 1998, at Harbour Pointe Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Darlington County, S.C., to the late Della Walker and the late Cecil Walker. Mrs. Thomas was retired and a member of Bibleway Apostolic Church, where she was a Mother of the Church.

The widow of Sylvester Thomas, formerly of Darlington County, she is survived by her two daughters, Lucille Aulmond of Norfolk and Juanita Greene of Darlington, S.C.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Bibleway Apostolic Church, Chesapeake, by Bishop Faison. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

George D. Winslow

NORFOLK -- George Doward Winslow, 82, died Sept. 6, 1998. Funeral services will be private. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.

Jane W. Boyd

PORTSMOUTH -- Jane W. Boyd, 69, of the 1500 block of Carson Crescent, died Sept. 7, 1998, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

She was a retired teacher and psychoanalyst for the Portsmouth School System with more than 20 years of service. Mrs. Boyd was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ulysses E. Boyd; two daughters, Linda Gatewood of Wadesboro, N.C., and Wendy B. English of Portsmouth; a son, Michael T. Boyd of Chesapeake; four sisters, Joan Prescott of Hampton, Ann Wallace of Chesapeake, Frankie Nelson of Cleveland, Ohio, and Lillie Bogen of Tallahassee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon R. Boyd, and a brother, Frank Winston Jr.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in New Bethel Baptist Church by Bishop J.M. Whitaker. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The family will be at Fisher Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Lillie Mitchell

PORTSMOUTH -- Lillie Mitchell, 73, of the 1800 block of Effingham St., died Sept. 4, 1998. A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Fisher Funeral Home.

Louis T. Croneberger

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Louis T. Croneberger, 78, of the 5200 block of West Lake Road, died Sept. 5, 1998, in a local hospital.

Born in Camden, N.J., he was a consultant engineer for the U.S. government and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Croneberger was a member of Diamond Springs Baptist Church, Mended Hearts Chapter No. 63, and was past president of the Tidewater Anglers Club. He was active in Boy Scouts for 30 years with Troop No. 391, Virginia Beach, and was a member of the Ham Radio Amateur Club for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Marie E. Croneberger; a son, William J. Croneberger of Yokosuka, Japan; a sister, Gladys Dunn; four brothers, Carl, Howard, Norman and Harry Croneberger; three grandchildren, Thomas, Max and Kirsty, all of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, by Pastor Warren Skinner. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Diamond Springs Baptist Church.

Andre N. Edmondson

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Andre N. Edmondson, 70, of the 2200 block of London Bridge Road, died Sept. 6, 1998, in his home.

Mr. Edmondson was born in Brownville, Neb., the son of the late George William Edmondson and Muriel Edmondson and brother of the late Donna Salzman. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and Naval Air Rework Facility, Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; two sons, George William Edmondson of New Bern, N.C., and Thomas Edmondson of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Ann-Marie Nadeau of Lakeville, Mass., Jane Cason of Knotts Island, N.C.; a brother, George Edmondson; a sister, Nona Boyl, both of Hemet, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

The body will be cremated with services at a later date. The family suggests donations be made to Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 6344, Virginia Beach, Va. 23456.

Donald L. Parker Sr.

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Donald L. Parker Sr., 70, died Sept. 8, 1998, in Virginia Beach.

Mr. Parker was a native of Norfolk and an independent insurance broker. He was a member of Norview Masonic Lodge No. 113, the Khedive Shrine Temple and the Cavalier Golf and Country Club.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Mibs Parker of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Leeann Sullivan of Virginia Beach; two sons, Richard H. Parker of Norfolk and Derek Parker of Fairfax; two sisters, Doris Wedeman and Louise Graves of Virginia Beach; and one grandchild, Brice Sullivan.

Services will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Nonie W. Waller

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Nonie Barron White Waller, 52, of the 4000 block of Atlantic Ave., owner of LaGalleria Inc., an antique and design company, lost her valiant fight with cancer Sept. 6, 1998, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Nonie was born in New Bern, N.C., to the late Chalmers Lindley White Jr. and Craig Pegram White. Nonie attended Stratford College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in art history. Nonie was active in many civic endeavors. She was a board member of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads and the Francis Land House, a sustainer and former parliamentarian of the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, and a member of The King's Daughters and the Norfolk Torch Club. Filled with creative energy and talent, Nonie loved her work as an interior designer because it gave her the chance to fill others' lives with her passion for creative expression. She loved life as she loved her work, and she touched the lives of many with her zest for living. In her work and in her life, her goal was to make others happy, and she succeeded. Her family and friends consider it an honor to have known her. Survivors include her devoted and loving husband, John Suter Waller; a stepdaughter, Garland Waller Avery; two stepsons, John S. Waller Jr. and his wife, Karen, and David L. Waller; her sister, Craig White Cannon and her husband, Thomas; her brother, Chalmers Lindley White III and his wife, Elizabeth; six grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach by the Rev. Georgianna Brabban Johnson and Louise B. Wilson. The family request that expressions of sympathy be made to the Francis Land House, 3131 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23452. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, are handling arrangements.

Eugene L. Willis

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Eugene Larkin Willis, 66, of the 5000 block of Clairmont Court, died Sept. 6, 1998.

Mr. Willis was born in Illinois and had lived in Hampton Roads for 43 years. Mr. Willis was a member of the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was retired from ILA Local 1624.

Mr. Willis is survived by his wife, Edna Willis; his mother, Alma Willis; his two sons, Mel Collins of Wisconsin and James Willis of Missouri; two daughters, Linda Wallace of Florida and Pamela Willis of Indiana; his brother, Vernon Willis of Illinois; two sisters, Charlotte Farley and Pam Garris, both of Illinois; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel. A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Herrin, Ill. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Virginia Beach Free Will Baptist Church.
