Joseph Wiggins

PORTSMOUTH -- Joseph Wiggins of the 3700 block of Pinebark Road, died Sept. 13, 1998. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Jerusalem Baptist Church. Graves Funeral Home is in charge.

Herman C. Williams Jr.

PORTSMOUTH -- Herman C. ``Willie" Williams Jr., 74, of the 200 block of Mayflower Road, passed away Sept. 15, 1998, at Maryview Medical Center.

He was born in Norfolk on Aug. 24, 1924, and was predeceased by his parents, Herman C. Williams Sr. and Ruth Virginia Williams, and a brother, Buford.

Mr. Williams was a graduate of Virginia Tech's School of Engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and Far East, spent 24 years as a civil service engineer with the Department of the Navy and, after retirement, spent several years as a consulting engineer.

He was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church, AF & AM Lake Drummond Lodge No. 178, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Society of Professional Engineers.

Devoted to his family, Mr. Williams is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Wilma C. Williams; daughter, Dreama W. Lott of Portsmouth; grandsons, Jason Earl Ewers of Portsmouth and Jamie Lee Ewers and his wife, Shannon, of Suffolk; one great-granddaughter, Alyssa Lee Ewers; brothers, Lindsey T. Williams of Norfolk and H. Edward Williams of Virginia Beach; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. George Mullinax. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Leukemia Society of America, 2101 Executive Drive, Box 21, Hampton, Va. 23666.

Milton K. Campbell

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Milton Kirt Campbell, 43, of the 700 block of Spooner Road, departed this life Sept. 15, 1998, in a local hospital.

He was a native of Hartsville, S.C., and was the son of Nettie C. Byrd and the late Willie Campbell.

He was employed by Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, N.C., as sports information director. He was a member of St. John's A.M.E. Church, Norfolk, where he was a loyal and faithful member of the Junior Steward Board, Lay Organization, Brotherhood for Christ, Walter C. Davis Actioneers and Boy Scout Leaders; Troop 76. He was a former member of Campbell Lodge No. 67 F.& A.M. Prince Hall Masons.

Survivors include his wife, Marvette Norman Campbell; two sons, Aaron C. Campbell and Alan J. Campbell; one daughter, Nadine P. Odom of the home. Also, his mother; one brother, Willie L. Campbell, and sister-in-law, Wendy, of Jacksonville, Fla.; several aunts and uncles; mother-in-law, Melvine Wyatt Norman of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Renee and Rondell Jones of San Diego, Calif.; two special cousins, Carolyn Benjamin of South Carolina and Dorothy Begard of New Haven, Conn.; grandparents-in-law, George and Constance Wyatt; one niece; one nephew; and a host of cousins, relatives, friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday at St. John's A.M.E. Church, 545 E. Bute St., Norfolk, by the Rev. L.S. Hinton, pastor, and the Rev. I.W. Knight Sr., presiding elder of the Norfolk Eastern Shore District. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Riddick Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the home and the procession will be from the home. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Mortgage Fund of St. John's A.M.E. Church.

Verna C. Carlin

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Verna C. Carlin, 67, of the 500 block of Lynn Shores Drive, died Sept. 14, 1998, at a local hospital.

She was born in Norristown, Pa., and retired from Thalia Elementary School with 18 years of service.

Survivors include her husband, Robert S. Carlin; two daughters, Cheryl House and her husband, Doug, and Desiree Carlin, all of Virginia Beach; two sons, Robert S. Carlin Jr. of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and Dave C. Carlin of Virginia Beach; a sister, Caroline Gauger of Norristown, Pa.; two granddaughters, Tamara Rayfield and her husband, Rusty, of Virginia Beach; Kristen Carlin of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandsons, Scott P. House of Virginia Beach, Douglas House Jr. and his wife, Yina, of Germany, and Robert S. Carlin III of Atlanta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Robert Rayfield of Virginia Beach and Roberto Douglas House of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

She was loved by all and will be missed by many.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at St. Nicholas Catholic Church by Father James M. Noto. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Princess Anne Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday for the 11 a.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at the church. Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church Building Fund, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.

Louise J. Driver

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Louise Jenkins Driver, 93, died Sept. 16, 1998, in her home.

Mrs. Driver was born in Norfolk, the daughter of the late James Iredell Jenkins and Mary Dobie Jenkins. She was the widow of Wilson Elliott Driver.

Survivors include a daughter, Dobie Driver Hogan and her husband, George Emmett Hogan, of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Molly Hogan of Savannah, Ga., and George Emmett Hogan III and his wife, Carol, of Rocklin, Calf.; and two great-grandchildren, Baylor Elizabeth Hogan and Alexandra Louise Hogan.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Friday at Elmwood Cemetery Norfolk by the Rev. Robert Page Taylor. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Naomi P. Glover

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Naomi Pauline Glover, 74, formerly of Forest Hills, N.Y., died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Virginia Beach.

Mrs. Glover was born in Hollidaysburg, Pa., and was the widow of William N. Glover. She was a retired homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Glover is survived by her daughters, Claire L. Roth of Virginia Beach and Kathy A. Spidle of Stow, Ohio; her sons, Frederick W. Smith and William Glover Jr., both of Boca Raton, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Tamara L. Roth and Richard A. Roth, John E. Roth and his wife, Francesca, all of Virginia Beach, Frank Spidle and his wife, Julie, of Stow, Brandon Smith and Scott Smith, both of Boca Raton and Scott Glover of Queens, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Allyssa and Joseph Spidle of Stow; one sister, Florence E. Dell of Pueblo West, Colo.; and one brother, William C. Miller and his wife, Eva, of Altoona, Pa. Besides her husband, Mrs. Glover was predeceased by her parents, Ira and Sarah Miller; a sister, Marion O'Brien; and two granddaughters, Sheri Ann Roth and Michelle Lucille Spidle.

A memorial service is planned for a later date. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Cremation Society of Virginia, Tidewater Office, is handling arrangements.

Margarette P. Hillmer

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Margarette Parr Hillmer, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, from kidney failure.

Margarette was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa, and raised by her aunt and uncle, Bessie Parr Patterson and Alex Patterson, in Dallas Center, Iowa. She was a 1941 graduate of Dallas Center High School. Margarette was the widow of Michael Hillmer of Boone, Iowa.

She is survived by two sons, David M. of Sycamore, Ill., and Thomas P. of Phoeniz, Ariz.; a daughter, W. Jobeth Fjell of Virginia Beach; daughters-in-law, Susan Kelder and Wanda R. Burch; and a son-in-law, Neil P. Fjell; six grandchildren, Kurt T., Gretchen R. (Mrs. Danny Bonaduce), Derek R. and wife, Amber, Jeffery A., Todd A., and Erinn E. Hillmer; two great-grandchildren, Isabella M. Bonaduce and Haze C. Hillmer.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Newstead Drive, Virginia Beach. Interment and graveside services will be held in Lynnwood Cemetery, Boone, Iowa, in May of 1999. Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Adelle R. Metzger

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Adelle Ruth Metzger, 65, died Sept. 15, 1998. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. today at Gomely Chesed Cemetery. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge.

Agnes A. Rumage

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Agnes A. Rumage, 92, of the 1100 block of Revere Point Road, died Sept. 16, 1998. She resided in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Cmdr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Schrank.

Services will be held in Wyoming, Pa., at a later date. Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Shirley T. Sanders

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Shirley T. Sanders of the 1300 block of Longlac Road died Sept. 12, 1998.

A native of North Carolina, she retired from C&P Telephone Co., and was a member of St. Paul Church of God In Christ in Norfolk.

Survivors include one son, Shawn Sanders, and one sister, Patricia Wilson, both of Virginia Beach; four brothers, Harvey J. Sanders and Gary B. Sanders, both of Virginia Beach, Rickie L. Sanders of Norfolk and Bobby R. Sanders of Hampton; granddaughter, Dejha T. Little of Virginia Beach; two aunts, Pearl Lynn of Virginia Beach and Ola Shears of Englewood, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul C.O.G.I.C. by Dr. Wilbert L. Daniels. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.

Helen A. Smith

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Helen A. Smith, 74, died Sept. 15, 1998, in a local hospital.

Born in Coniston, Ontario, Canada, she was the widow of Colonel James E. Smith and a Catholic.

Survivors include her daughter, Karel Wetzel of Virginia Beach; three sons, James R. Smith of Virginia Beach, Robert E. Smith of Hampton and George J. Smith of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Lena McIntosh of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, and Mary Maud of Copper Cliff, Ontario, Canada; a brother, John Baby, also of Sudbury; five grandchildren, Kristin Wetzel of Virginia Beach, Jason Wetzel of Richmond, Richard Smith and Kimberly Smith, both of Virginia Beach, and Alec Smith of Hampton; two great-grandchildren, Angel Smith and Joshua Smith of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Catholic Church of St. Mark by Father Daniel N. Klem. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7320 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231 or to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30329.

Lillian M. Williams

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Lillian M. Williams, 89, of the 3500 block of Royal Palm Arch, died Sept. 16, 1998, in Virginia Beach.

Born in West Enfield, Maine, she was a member of Congregational Church and VFW Auxiliary in Old Town, Maine.

The widow of Percy L. Williams, she is survived by two daughters, Maxine Quackenbush of Rochester, N.Y., and Charity Campbell of Virginia Beach; a son, Samuel Messer Sr. of Fairport, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Duane Quackenbush, Gary Quackenbush, Michael Campbell, Mark Campbell, Matthew Campbell, Samuel Messer Jr., Donna Benham, Joseph Messer and John Messer; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Geraldine Day.

Services will be private. Burial will be in Old Town, Maine, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to one's favorite charity. Hollomon-Brown, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling arrangements.

Reamer L. Davis

SUFFOLK -- Reamer Lee Davis, 77, of the 200 block of E. Pinner St., died Sept. 13, 1998. A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Meadowbrook Memorial. Applewhite Funeral Home is in charge.

Eva Lee B. Spruill

SUFFOLK -- Eva Lee Britt Spruill, 79, of the 500 block of Spruce St., died Sept. 14, 1998. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in New First Baptist Church. Applewhite Funeral Home is in charge.
