Estelle W. Shaddeau

CHESAPEAKE -- Estelle Willie Shaddeau, 81, died Sept. 15, 2000.

She was born in South Norfolk and was the widow of Louis Shaddeau. She retired from Stewart Sandwiches as a lunchroom manager. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Chesapeake and Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 795, Women's Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Marlene Currie of Franktown, Va. and Deborah Hirtes of Chesapeake; a son, Ronald ``Ronnie" Shaddeau of Virginia Beach; a sister, Katherine White of Portsmouth; a brother, John Aydlett of Buxton, N.C.; six grandchildren, Marsha Orr of Fayetteville, N.C., Ethan Currie of Woods Hole, Mass., Jared Pulley of Elizabeth City, N.C., Carrie Guyer of Chesapeake, Rodney Shaddeau of Jacksonville, Fla., and Brook Shaddeau of Newport News; and one great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, by the Rev. Phil Quales. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY 10305.

Sarah J. Benjamin

NORFOLK -- Sarah Johnson Benjamin, 77, of the 900 block of Hatton St., answered the Master's call on Friday evening, Sept. 15, 2000, and entered into eternal rest.

Elder Benjamin was an associate minister of New Rising Sun UHC for more than 40 years, the assistant secretary of the Southern District Convocation of UHC, president of the Southern District Missionary Department and business director for United Christian Institute.

She is survived by her husband, Elisha Benjamin of Norfolk; four daughters, Sylvia Tillary of Tillery, N.C., Cheryl Strodder of Richmond, Valerie Johnson of Chesapeake and Viola Benjamin of Virginia Beach; one son, Jack Moore of New York; two sisters, Creola Moore of New York and Gloria Summers of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Temple United Holy Church. A home going service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Branch Memorial Tabernacle, Goldsboro, N.C., with Bishop S.D. Clemons officiating. Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements.

June V. Crouse

NORFOLK -- June Butt Vadersen Crouse died Sept. 14, 2000. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Ocean View Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Arthur S. Jensen. Information provided by Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory.

Della M. Plott

NORFOLK -- Della Montgomery Plott died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000 at her residence.

She was born in Alleghany County, Va., on Nov. 19, 1905 to the late Robert Lee Montgomery and Nancy Wilhelm Montgomery. She was the widow of Ralph E. Plott.

She had resided in Norfolk for the past 57 years. She was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, the Ruth Bible Class and the Anna Keelin Circle. She was a cherished mother, Granny and friend to many people who loved her cheerful and warm spirit.

She is survived by a son, the Rev. Dr. Glenn Plott and his wife Sheila of Toano, Va.; a daughter, Linda Plott Moore of Norfolk; two sisters, Sing Brown of Covington, Va., and Fay Montgomery of Goshen, Va.; a son-in-law, Joe Fetty of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren, Nancy Williams of Richmond, Va., Jennie Betton of Greensboro, N.C., Glenn Plott Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Julie Oravetz of Reading, Pa., Susan Haugh, Dana Fetty and Dean Fetty of Norfolk, David Fetty of Chesapeake, Stephen Plott and Jennifer McKinney of Portsmouth; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may join the family at Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. A funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Virginia Heights Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive, is handling arrangements.

Mary A. Shaw

NORFOLK -- Mary Alice Shaw, 82, of the 1000 block of Hugo St., died Sept. 16, 2000.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Ralph E. Allen

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Ralph Eugene Allen, 53, of the 500 block of 14th St., passed away at his residence Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, after a short illness.

Mr. Allen was a life long resident of Virginia Beach. He was a self employed produce grower and distributor.

Mr. Allen was the son of the late Reather Dixon Allen. He is survived by his his father, Howard F. Allen of Virginia Beach; one son, Joseph W. Allen of Virginia Beach; and one brother, Rodney J. Allen of Blacksburg, Va.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000 at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Steven M. Burnett

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Steven Matthew Burnett, 22, died Sept. 17, 2000 in a local hospital.

Born in Norfolk, he was a technician with Support Services for one and one-half years.

Survivors include his mother, Anne S. Wilson and stepfather, Arthur G. Wilson Jr. of Virginia Beach; his father, Robert Glenn Burnett of Norfolk; a sister, Heather Anne Medford and her husband Jeffrey of Virginia Beach; a brother, Robert ``Scott" Burnett of Virginia Beach; maternal grandmother, Dorothy S. Jones and her husband Robert of Virginia Beach; paternal grandmother, Mildred S. Burnett of Virginia Beach; four uncles, Randy and Irene Sutton, Kendall and Shirley Sutton, James T. Sutton Jr., all of Virginia Beach, and Wayne and Barbara Burnett of Fredericksburg, Va.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Thalia Trinity Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Fred McCall. Hollomon- Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Life Net Education Fund, 5809 Ward Court, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.

Andrew M. McCrone

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Retired SC Navy Capt. Andrew M. McCrone, who was born in Philadelphia, Pa., died Sept. 16, 2000, at the age of 82 in his residence.

Capt. McCrone graduated from the University of Pennsylvania -- Wharton School of Finance and Commerce -- with a B.S. degree in 1940. In 1941 he was commissioned and began a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps. He served both ashore and afloat in the United States, China, Japan, Guam, Hawaii, Italy, France, Spain, Greece and Turkey with the Mediterranean Sixth Fleet. He commanded the Defense Depot in Mechanicsburg, Pa., from 1963 to 1966.

After retiring in 1970 from active duty, Capt. McCrone embarked on a second career in the private sector. He retired again in 1989 as vice president and trust officer of Crestar Bank.

He was involved in many community organizations serving on the board of directors of the Virginia Beach YMCA and the United Way Family Center. He was a past president of the Princess Anne Rotary Club and had served on the District Rotary Scholarships Committee since 1974.

Capt. McCrone's club memberships include the St. Andrews Society of Philadelphia and Tidewater, Va., Mask and Wig Club of the University of Pennsylvania, the Princess Anne Country Club, and the Army-Navy Country Club.

His decorations and medals include the Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation Medal, American Defense, Pacific Theatre, National Defense China Service, Occupation for Asia and Europe and the World War II Victory Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lancaster Pennington McCrone; a daughter, Christina Pennington McCrone of Richmond; and two cousins, Elizabeth Kerr of Ayrshire, Scotland, and Elizabeth McCrone of Detroit, Mich.

A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please forward contributions to the Rotary Foundation, c/o Princess Anne Rotary Club, P.O. Box 61607, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

Blanche H. West

SMITHFIELD -- Blanche Holland West, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in Riverside Convalescent Center, Smithfield.

She was a native of Nansemond County, and the wife of the late James E. ``Red" West Sr. They were the founders and co-owners of West Supermarket. Mrs. West was an active member of Smithfield Baptist Church and belonged to the TEL Sunday School Class.

Survivors include a daughter, June W. Hurst of Smithfield; a son, James E. West Jr. of Williamsburg; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and suggests that memorial contributions be made to Smithfield Baptist Church, Building Fund, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, VA 23430.

Ronald L. Taylor

HERTFORD -- Ronald Lee Taylor, 57, of Joshua Circle, died Sept. 16, 2000. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge.

Pauline W. Wheeler

MARGARETTSVILLE -- Pauline Wade Wheeler, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000. Mrs. Wheeler was the wife of the late Russell Lawrence ``Preacher" Wheeler.

Survivors include her daughter, Doris W. Kelley and son-in-law, Bernard Kelley, of Richmond; and several very special nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Margarettsville Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Margarettsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, N.C.

HAMPTON -- Richard A. Ruth III, who retired from Virginia National Bank, died Sept. 16, 2000. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home is in charge.

John T. Brown Sr.

WOODBINE, Ga. -- John Thomas Brown Sr., a former Portsmouth resident, died Sept. 13, 2000. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge.
