CHERITON -- Mrs. Page Nottingham Ames, 96, of Cheriton, passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Myrna
Brown of Raleigh, N.C.; her sister, Lula Lee Bowman of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted from the Cape Charles Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Edgar Mayse officiating. Flowers will be graciously accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles.
Maggie E. Moore
CAPE CHARLES -- Maggie Elliott Moore, 86, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Sentara Bayside Hospital.
A native of Cedargrove, Va., she was the daughter of the late Samuel Thomas Elliott and the late Lillian Mae Bowden Elliott. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God and the wife of the late John M. ``Tootsie" Moore.
Survivors include her daughter, Juanita M. West of Virginia Beach; two sons, Francis Moore of Virginia Beach and Johnny M. Moore III of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Joe Moore and the Rev. Joe West officiating. Interment will be at Capeville Masonic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles.

Scott J. Ratliff
HERTFORD -- Scott Joseph ``Scotty" Ratliff, infant son of Scott Joseph and Margaret Sue Talmadge Ratliff of Longview Estates, died Sept. 11, 1998. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cedarwood Cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge.
Lawrence W. Ricks
CONWAY -- Lawrence Woodard Ricks, 69, of Conway, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in his home.
Mr. Ricks was a retired North Carolina Farm Bureau agent and a retired farmer. Also, he was a member of Conway Baptist Church and the Pendleton Masonic Lodge No. 418.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Hill Ricks, of the home; his mother, Nina Mae Ricks of Jackson; two daughters, Wanda R. Taylor of Conway and Carole R. Pendleton of Lincolnton; one son, Keith H. Ricks; two brothers, Elliott Lee Ricks and Braxton Ricks, all of Conway; one sister, Foy R. Taylor of Jackson; one adopted brother, Edwin Barnes of Raleigh; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Conway Baptist Church with the Rev. James Hester and the Rev. Willie McLawhorn officiating. Bridgers Funeral Home Inc. in Conway is handling the arrangements.

Benjamin H. Robinette
CHARLOTTE -- Benjamin Haynes Robinette, 14, of the 9900 block of Foxx Oak Place, died Sept. 10, 1998, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Benjamin was born March 14, 1984, the son of David Edward and Anne Boone Robinette. Having attended the Quail Hollow Middle School, Ben was a ninth grade student at South Mecklenburg High School where he was a member of the Varsity Cross Country Team. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and its youth group.
Benjamin is survived by his parents, David Edward and Anne Boone Robinette; two sisters, Victoria Boone Robinette and Elizabeth Rogers Robinette of the home; grandparents, Martha Boone of Norfolk and Margaret Robinette of Taylorsville, N.C.
A service to celebrate the life of Benjamin will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carmel Baptist Church, 1145 Pineville-Matthews Road. Dr. L. Wayne Adkisson will officiate. Committal will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28210.
Active and honorary pallbearers will be the Varsity Cross Country Team.

John M. Lemon
GLOUCESTER -- John ``Jake" Martin Lemon, 69, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998.
He was a native of Gloucester County, owner of J.M. Lemon & Sons Towing and Auto Service and a member and deacon of Shepherdsville Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hallie Estelle Lemon; two sons, Karl M. Lemon and wife, Faye, of Richmond, and Alan D. Lemon of Gloucester; daughter, Claudia L. Pratt and husband, Richard, of Gloucester; foster daughter, Marian L. Bates of Virginia Beach; mother, Sarah Catherine Lemon of Gloucester; brother, Sidney Lemon Jr. of Gloucester; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shepherdsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Frederick R. Carter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Howard Funeral Home, Ark, Va. Mr. Lemon will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

CHESAPEAKE -- Curtis A. Chapman, 96, of the 600 block of Wingfield Ave., went to be with the Lord Sept. 10, 1999, at her residence.
``Mama Tuck," as she was also known, was born in Honea Path, S.C., and was the widow of Charles M. Chapman Sr. She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and she also belonged to several senior citizen groups.
She is survived by a daughter, Margie C. Dashiell of Virginia Beach; a son, Billy R. Chapman Sr. of Norfolk; a brother, Robert Acker of Honea Path, S.C.; nine grandchildren, George Dashiell Jr. and Judy Dashiell, both of Virginia Beach, Terry Ragan, Sandra Allen, Billy Chapman Jr., Michael Dashiell and Diane Spruill, all of Chesapeake, Bobby Chapman and John Dashiell, both of Currituck, N.C.; 18 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and a niece, Margaret Kolb of Chesapeake. She was predeceased by a son, Charles M. Chapman Jr.

Margaret Muir
CHESAPEAKE -- Margaret Muir of the 1100 block of Bells Mill Road died Sept. 8, 1999.
Born in Norfolk, she was a homemaker and the widow of John H. Muir. She was a member of New Discipleship Church.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Rose Lee of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Monday at New Discipleship Church by Bishop Anthony Moses. Burial will be at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. at 618 Pile Ave. for the procession.
Lucille E. Barber
NORFOLK -- Lucille E. Barber, 83, of the 5900 block of Finney St., died Sept. 9, 1999, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.
She was born in Belhaven, N.C., and was the widow of Henry R. Barber. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church and its Deaconess Board and Matron's Guild. She was also involved with the Sunday school program. She was a member of Excelsior Chapter No. 82, PHA; the Past Matrons, Past Patrons Council; and past president of District 2 Council, PHA. She was a high school graduate. She received special honors from Excelsior Chapter No. 82, PHA, and at the Burrus, Bradshaw, Spencer, O'Neal family reunion; was twice Woman of the Year at Jerusalem Baptist Church, and a charter member of the Elizabeth Cobb Vitality Tent No. 755. She was predeceased by her mother, Beulah Burrus, her father, Flynn Burrus, four sisters, five brothers and her grandparents.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Barber; two daughters, Sandra Etheridge and her husband, Weyland Etheridge, and Allison Hopkins and her husband, Lavon Hopkins; a goddaughter, Cynthia Moss; a son, Henry M. Barber; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Wednesday at 718 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, by the Rev. H. Caryle Church Jr. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach Boulevard, Norfolk. Chatman/E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

NORFOLK -- Mateen D. Byrd of the 7400 block of Hughart St., a native of Norfolk, died Sept. 7, 1999.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Ann Byrd; two sisters, Sheena Byrd and Anndrea Byrd; a brother, Anwar Byrd, all of Norfolk; his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Sulester L. Riddick of Norfolk and James C. Howard of Portsmouth; one niece, Jaimela Giles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakland Cemetery, Hampton. Viewing will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. for the procession.
