Nannie P. White
NORFOLK -- Nannie Payne White, 89, of the 2500 block of Grandy Ave., died in a local hospital on Sept. 11, 1998.
Mrs. White was born in Portsmouth and was the widow of James Howard White and was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara W. McCabe and husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach; two grandsons, Howard R. McCabe of Norfolk and Douglas M. McCabe of Virginia Beach; one granddaughter, Tracey M. Jensen of Maryland; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Cory and Nichole.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Ralph A. Stalter.

Sarah G. Bowman
PORTSMOUTH -- Sarah Gibson Bowman, 86, of the 5900 block of Campbell St., died Sept. 10, 1998, in Maryview Medical Center.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of Grove Baptist Church where she was a gospel choir member and a missionary. She was also a member of the Love and Charity Lodge and Marian Chapter No. 107, Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Johnnie Bowman Sr. and the daughter of the late Cornelia and George Gibson.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Evelyn Morrisette; four sons, Wilbert Gibson, Johnnie Bowman, Linwood Bowman and Burnett Bowman; two sisters, Estelle G. White and Deliah Gibson; a brother, Wilroy E. Gibson; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three daughters-in-law, Corinne C. Gibson, Joyce W. Bowman and Joyce A. Bowman.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Melvin O. Marriner Sr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.
Jon L. Devreaux
PORTSMOUTH -- Jon L. Devreaux, 26, of the 700 block of Cherokee Road, died Sept. 3, 1998.
He was employed by Maryview Medical Center through Accustaff and was a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Virginia ``Dionne" Devreaux and Bricy Devreaux; two sisters, April L. Devreaux and Brichelle O. Devreaux; and several other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. J. Michael Little in Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will assemble at 2511 Peach St. for the procession. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge.
Melvin H. Parker
PORTSMOUTH -- Melvin Hinton Parker, 75, of Bainbridge Ave., died Sept. 10, 1998, at a Portsmouth hospital.
Born in Ahoskie, N.C., a son of the late John Henry Parker and the late Addie Savage Parker. He was a retired state inspector at High St. Amoco Station and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Portsmouth Moose Lodge No. 898, where he received the Fellowship Degree, and the Sunshine Club at Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Burkholder Parker; a daughter, Carolyn Parker Wyatt of Portsmouth; two stepdaughters, Karen B. White of Hertford, N.C., and Cindy B. Chaney of Roxboro, N.C.; a stepson, Tim Burkholder of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy Irwin of Chesapeake; two brothers, Gordon ``Red" Parker and Jerry Parker, both of Driver, Va.; two grandchildren, Amber and Josh Wyatt; eight stepgrandchildren, Brian and Eric White, Christyn and Jason Burkholder, Brandon Chaney, Erin and Melissa Petefish, Amber P. Critcher; two great-grandchildren, Brent White and Haley Critcher; and his cat, ``Pumpkin." He was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Parker; a stepson, Larry E. Burkholder; a brother, Harold Parker and sister-in-law, Marian.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Moose Rites by the Rev. John M. Brackin III and the Rev. William E. Kube. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Nancy W. Bridwell
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Nancy Wittman Bridwell, 68, of the 5600 block of Anthony Road, died Sept. 11, 1998, in Virginia Beach.
Born in Pittsburgh, she was the widow of Paul W. Bridwell.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Bridwell-Vallone and her husband, Joseph G. Vallone, of Woodsfield, Ohio; a son, Wayne Bridwell and his wife, Cheryl, of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Alice Goetz and Inez Pilarski of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Holly Christine Bridwell of Fairfax, Va., Michael Allan Bridwell, Anthony Paul Vallone and Jason Alexander Vallone, all of Woodsfield, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Alice M. Bridwell of Tuscon, Ariz.

Morris T. Buckelew
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Morris Thomas Buckelew, 79, a retired vice president of Said Inc., a Falls Church-based firm, and a licensed commercial pilot, died Aug. 22, 1998, at a Virginia Beach nursing home of stroke complications. A longtime Washington, D.C., area resident, he retired to Virginia Beach in 1989.
Mr. Buckelew attended the University of Virginia and the National Law School in Washington, D.C. In World War II, he served in the Army Signal Corps and transferred to the Army Air Corps, flying combat missions in the New Guinea theater as a B-25 bomber pilot. He maintained his commercial, multi-engine, and instrument pilot ratings well into his late 60s, eventually logging more than 30,000 flying hours. An amateur radio operator, Mr. Buckelew was a member of the Society of Wireless Pioneers.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Few Buckelew of Virginia Beach; three sons, Roger C., of Burke, Bruce N., of Virginia Beach, Daniel V. of McLean; and one grandson.

Jeanette S. Canfield
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Jeanette
Smith Canfield, 74, of the 700 block of Brinson Arch, passed away Sept. 7, 1998, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
A native of North Carolina, Mrs. Canfield was the widow of John F. Canfield. She was a homemaker and loving mother, and lived in the area most of her life. She also was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Chris Joesting and her husband, Michael, of North Carolina, Paula Webster and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, and Pamela Kincaid of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren, Amber, Danielle, Matthew, Katherine, David, Jason, Corie, and Shepard; and one great-grandchild, Jasmine.
There will be a memorial service Monday at 4 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Stuart Saul. Burial will be private. Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
Sadie M. Lamb
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Sadie M. Lamb, of the 1900 block of Pleasant Ridge Road, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 10, 1998.
Mrs. Lamb was a native of Princess Anne County. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, where she was the church recording secretary and a member of the usher board and senior choir.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin L. Lamb Sr. of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Jennifer Lofton and her husband, John Lofton, and Paula Lamb, all of Virginia Beach; one son, Alvin L. Lamb Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Della M. Walker of Virginia Beach; three brothers, John C. Walker Jr., Stanley Walker, and Calvin Walker, all of Virginia Beach; one granddaughter, Brittney Lamb of Virginia Beach; aunts, Winnie Cuffee, Pearl Holloway, and Losie James, all of Virginia Beach; a mother-in-law, Lillian Hill; six sisters-in-law, Margaret Owens, Darnell Uzzle, Yvonne Olds, Kathleen Madden, Bernice Walker, and Doretha Lamb; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Lamb and Oliver Owens Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Community Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. John Haynes. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was born in Franklin County, N.C.

Sandusky, all of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Kathleen Murphy of Henderson, N.C., Irene Tillotson of Stovall, N.C.; a brother, Ben Hale of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, Greg, Crystal, Tanner and Carly; and a great-granddaughter, Lexus.
