Vanessa Stephenson

SUFFOLK -- Vanessa Stephenson, 68, of the 1800 block of Hoseia Road, died Sept. 11, 1998, in Obici Hospital, after a long illness.

A native of North Carolina, she was the daughter of Pearl J. and William Nash Stephenson.

She was a member of Macedonia AMEZ Church.

Survivors include her brother, Emmett Stephenson of Franklin; and four sisters, Catherine Goodman of Suffolk, Beatrice Branch of Conway, N.C., Louise Tyner of Woodland, N.C., and Vergie Mae Branch of Severn, N.C.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Macedonia AMEZ Church with burial in the Stephenson Family Cemetery.

Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home is in charge.

Joyce M. Heath

CAPE CHARLES -- Joyce Moore Heath, 65, of the 200 block of Madison Ave., died Sept. 11, 1998, in her home.

A native of Keller, Va., she was the daughter of the late Malvin and Virgie Taylor Moore.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Cape Charles Young Womans Club, and the Northampton Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, Robert M. ``Tick" Heath; her son, Bobby Heath of Cape Charles; her sister, Mary Lena Mears; and brother, Malvin E. ``Sonny" Moore, both of Newport News.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Bishop and the Rev. Bob Cooper.

Fox & Scott Funeral Home, Cape Charles, is handling arrangements.

Aurelia A. Reddick

ELIZABETH CITY -- The Rev. Aurelia Atkinson Reddick, of Route 2, Hurdletown Road, died Sept. 11, 1998.

A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity Community Church, South Road St.

Stallings Funeral Home, Elizabeth City, is in charge.

Willie C. Temple

ELIZABETH CITY -- Willie Carroll Temple, 46, of the 600 block of Highway No. 158, died Sept. 11, 1998.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Whitney Cemetery (Newland).

Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Regina B. Livers

HAMPTON -- Regina B. ``Jeri" Livers, 81, died Sept. 9, 1998, after a short illness.

Mrs. Livers, daughter of Samuel and Theresa Bradeen was born in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, Canada, and raised in Milo, Maine.

After graduating from Farmington Normal School for teachers, she taught in the Bethel, Maine, and Hampton, Va., school systems.

She had been a resident of Hampton since 1944 and was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Hampton.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry R. Livers Jr. and a brother, Carl A. Bradeen.

She is survived by two sons, Harry R. Livers III, Ricky Livers and wife Joan; daughter, Priscilla ``Honeybear" L. Wampler, and husband, Robert; two sisters, Evelyn Page and Carolyn Peacock; two brothers, Joseph Bradeen and Fredrick Bradeen; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services and interment will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in downtown Hampton by the Rev. Rodney L. Caulkins.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to St. John's Episcopal Church.

Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

George W. Ashburn

RICHMOND -- George Warner Ashburn, 87, died Sept. 10, 1998.

Mr. Ashburn was a retired paint contractor for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard with 26 years of service.

He was a member and long-term deacon of the Court Street Baptist Church, a member of Urbanna Lodge No. 83 AF&AM, a master Mason for more than 50 years, and an Army veteran of World War II, having landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, 1944, with the 29th Infantry Division.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline Hart Ashburn; daughter, Mary Madeline Ashburn; a grandson; his sister, Alma A. Sitterding, all of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, Richmond, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. today and where a Masonic service will be held at 1:30 p.m.

A funeral will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Court Street Baptist Church Endowment Fund, Portsmouth, or to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad, Richmond.

Richard Lawrence

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Richard Lawrence, 74, of the 100 block of Clermont Ave., died Sept. 3, 1998, at his home.

He was born in Isle of Wight to the late Mattie Branch Lawrence and the late Malachi Lawrence.

He was a retired custodian for the 88th Precinct Police Department in Brooklyn with 20 years of service.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Ricks and Darlene Murphy, both of Franklin; two sisters, Ethle Mae Everett and Irma Lawrence, both of Franklin; an uncle, Vernon Branch of Franklin; grandchildren, Alesia Rawls, Tameka Walloe and Lakala Murphy, all of Franklin, and Renita Symblin of Woodbridge, Va., and stepmother, Willie Mae Lawrence.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Pleasant Shade Baptist Church, Franklin, by the Rev. Willis Freeman.

Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

The family will assemble for services at 1 p.m.

Applewhite Funeral Home is in charge.

Tony E. Morris

PITTSBURGH -- Tony E. Morris of the 200 block of South Aikens Ave. died Sept. 10, 1998, in the VA Hospital, Hampton.

Born in Portsmouth, he served two years in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Survivors include his daughter, Felicia Sanabria; a son, Yusef Morris; his mother, Goldie V. Morris; a sister, Beverly M. Whittaker; grandchildren, JaJuan Sanabria, Marley Sanabria, Maya Sanabria; his fiancee, Lillian Butler; several cousins, aunts and close family friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Bernice F. Morris; and grandparents, James and Lola Allmond, and Frank and Mary Moses.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2710 Columbus Ave., Portsmouth, by the Rev. Curtis Edmonds.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family and friends will assemble at the family home on Tuesday at noon.

The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

John L.C. Sullivan

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- John Leicester Contee Sullivan, 95, died Saturday, Sept. 12, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Mr. Sullivan was born Aug. 7, 1903, in Baltimore, and had moved to Vero Beach a year ago from Virginia Beach, where he lived for 20 years.

He retired as vice president for coal and fuel oil companies in Washington, D.C., after more than 32 years.

He received numerous commendations from several U.S. presidents for his dedication, active involvement and leadership in civic and business affairs of the District of Columbia.

He was a vestryman for St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Washington, D.C.

He was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach.

Mr. Sullivan was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Williams Sullivan, in January 1998; father, Charles A. Sullivan; mother, Elizabeth B.C. Sullivan; brother, Charles S.C. Sullivan; and sisters, Elizabeth S. Kirby and Anna S. Hofmann.

He is survived by a daughter, Jonan C. Savery of North Hutchinson Island, Fla.; a son, John C. Sullivan of Seoul, Korea; two grandsons; one granddaughter; and three great-granddaughters.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice in memory of Mr. Sullivan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lowther Cremation Service, Vero Beach.
