Oct. 10, 1895 - Old Norfolk Man Dead: MR. JOHN B. TEMPLE, formerly of this city, died in Arlington, N.J., Monday evening, after a short illness. The deceased was well known as an engineer of the Old Dominion Steamship Company's steamers, having been in that company's employ for the last twenty-five years, being chief engineer of the steamer Richmond at the time of his death. He will be remembered, too, by the older residents as engineer of the steamer Curtis Peck, which plyed between Norfolk and Richomd, this latter being about the time of the "yellow fever." He was about 65 years of age and a big hearted fellow who had many friends. He leaves no family. The funeral took place yesterday evening at 8 o'clock in Arlington, and the remains will leave New York on this morning's steamer for Richmond via Norfolk. He was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 19, A.F. and A.M. of Richmond, and will be buried in that city.

Oct. 11, 1895 - Col. JOHN OTT, who died at Roanoke Tuesday morning, was well known in Portsmouth and Norfolk, especially by the banking men of the two cities. He was more especially known here as the secretary of theIron Belt Building and Loan Association, as that association has many members in this community. Col. Ott is highly spoken of here, and much regret is expressed at his untimely death.

Oct. 10, 1895 - The funeral of Mrs. ELEANOR S. HERBERT, widow of the late Caleb Fox Herbert, will take place from the residence, 1101 Washington street, this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Mrs. Herbert was in the 83d year of her age and a life-time resident of Portsmouth. She was a lady of many amiable qualities and had many friends in this community. Oct. 12, 1895 - The funeral of Mrs. Eleanor Herbert took place at 4 o'clock from the family residence, no 1101 Washington street, Rev. J.L. Allison conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Grove cemetery. The pall-bearers were: Messrs. R. A. Hutchins, E.L. Lash, James E. Harrison, John Lee, Robert S. Broughton and Walter Barclay.

Oct. 11, 1895 - Mr. Hall's Body Recovered: MR. WESTERMAN W. HALL was 52 years old and leaves a wife and four children, the eldest being a young gentleman 21 years of age. He had been in the employ of the Old Dominion Steamship Company for twenty-two years in the capacity of a freight clerk. His body was found by four oystermen off Hospital Point yesterday morning about 8 o'clock and removed to Hall's undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. A delegation from Norfolk Lodge No 9, K of P, of which he was a member, brought the body from Portsmouth. The funeral notice will be found in our Brambleton items.

Oct. 11, 1895 - Services over the remains of CHARLES HATFIELD took place yesterday from the lodgeroom of B.P.O. Elks at 10 a.m. and were conducted by Rev. Robert S. Copeland, assistant rector of St. Luke's P. E. Church. A number of ladied, friends of members of the lodge, were present and sang "Nearer, My God, to Thee," and "Asleep in Jesus." The floral offerings were very beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery. The pall-bearers were M. Ryan, Otto Sandmon, Fred Hyatt, Wm. Diem, Robert Fletcher, J.Lloyd Gordon, Jacob Shafer and George Lyons.

Oct. 11, 1895 - The funeral of Mr. RICHARD Q. DRUMMOND, who died Wednnesday afternoon at 3:50 o'clock, aged 77 years, took place from St. Luke's P.E. Church yesterday at 4 p.m., being conducted by Rev. jArthur S. Lloyd, the rector. The remains were interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Messrs. Joseph Pugh, W.L. Baker, George Hayes, Walter Jones, W.W. Gait, R.S. Broughton, H. E. Chase and T. L. Stevenson were the pall-bearers.

Oct 13, 1895 - Yesterday morning about 1 o'clock MISS MARY CATHARINE SHELLCUP, niece of Mr. Thomas J. Kilpatrick, and daughter of the late George S. and Susan Shellcup, passed quietly away at the residence of her uncle, No. 907 County street. Miss Shellcup was about 25 years of age and had been in bad health for some time. She was loved by all who had the good fortune to know her, and her death will be greatly regretted. The funeral services will be conducted this afternoon at the above residence at 4 o'clock. ..... The remains were interred in Oak Grove cemetery.

Oct 13, 1895 - Mr. GEORGE WHITE, a prominent and respectable colored citizen, died at his home, No. 6 Gateswood lane, yesterday morning at 5 o'clock. He was a member of the N.S.& B. C., who will attend his obsequies tomorrow in a body. The funeral services will take place at St. John's A.M.E. Church, south, and the interment will be in the Plank Road Cemetery.

Oct 15, 1895 - The funeral of MRS. SUSAN A. ARMISTEAD, who died last Saturday afternoon, took place yesterday afternoon from her late residence, No. 424 Randonlph Street. Mrs. Armistead was in the 47th year of her age and leaves three children. The funeral services were conducted by Revs. John T. Bosman and G. S. Kennard. Interment in Oak Grove cemetery.

Oct 25, 1895 - A Colored man named CHARLES TOLES fell overboard Weds. from a Mud Scow in tow of the Tug MERCIE B and was drowned. The body was recovered yesterday morning. an inquest was held the verdict being accidental drowning.

Oct 25, 1895 - Mr. DAVID HARRELL of Park View, died yesterday morning at near midnight at his residdence on Cook Street. Mr. Harrell had been sick for some time, and his death was not unexpected, though the shock to his family and friends fell heavy. He was about 45 years of age. The funeral services will take place this morning at 10 o'clock at the Park View M.E. Church. His wife and two children survive him.

Oct 25, 1895 - The funeral of the late JAMES H. CANNON took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. T. McN. Simpson conducted the ceremony, and the remains were interred in Oak Grove Cemetery. The following gentlemen were the pall bearers: R.L. Herbert, R.E. Warren, C. W. Rustic, R. W. Murden, D. W. Whitehurst, Greorge Brooks, R. B. Daughtey and P. O'Connor.

Oct 26, 1895 - The remains of the late Mr. ADOLPHUS HUBAND, who died at his home in Winston, N.C. Wednesday, reached here over the Chesapeake and Ohio yesterday at noon and were immediately taken to Elmwood cemetery and interred. Rev. J. B. Merritt conducting the excercises at the grave. The widow of the deceased accompanied the body. The following gentlemen acted as pall-bearers. Golonel George Tait, Thomas Moreland, E. Black, F. Wade Vaughn, Capt. W. H. Collins and Mr. Keeling (building inspector). The deceased was formerly a resident of this city and was highly esteemed here. He was about 31 years old.

Oct 26, 1895 - The news was received here yesterday, with regret, of the death of CAPTAIN WILLIAM DRUMMOND, at the home of his sister, Mrs. William Fletcher, near Oak Hill, Thursday night. He lieved in Norfolk nearly, if not all of his life. He was sixty years of age and had for thrity years been a pasenger conductor on the Seaboard railroad. He was widely known and had a host of friends. He was the oldest of three brothers, Messrs. William, Joseph and Charles Drummond, the latter two now deceased. The remains will be brought her for interment.

Oct 31, 1895 - MARY C. HARGROVE, aged 36 years, and wife of Mr. David C. Hargrove, died yesterday at her home in Salem, Princess Anne County, leaving, besides her husband, six children. The funeral will take place at 11 o'clock today from the Salem Church, after which the remains will be interred in the family burying ground.

Oct 31, 1895 - The funeral of BARRON JOHNSON, a well known young colored man of this city, who died in Washington Monday, occurred yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the United Presbyterian College, on Princess Anne Avenue. Johnsonwas a young man, and had spent most of his life at school. He was studying for the ministry in Washington when he died, and his remains reached here yesterday morning.

Nov 2, 1895 - Mrs. ANSON E. TAYLOR, widow of the late Major A. Taylor, died at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. James T. Davis, in Brambleton, yesterday morning, from paralysis, at 9:30 o'clock, aged 73 years. The deceased leaves several children, all grown, among them Mr. George F. Taylor, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Nat. Miller. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Davis.

Nov 3, 1895 - Mrs. ANGIE P. CUTHERELL of whom we made mention a few days ago as having been stricken with paralysis, died at 2:15 a.m Friday, at her residence, 6636 High Street. Mrs. Cutherell was the widow of the late Edward Cutherell, and sister of Mrs. A. W. Martin, of this city [Portsmouth]. She was in the seventieth year of her age and greatly loved by all her large number of friends. The funeral will take place from Monumental Church tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Nov 5, 1895 - The funeral services over the remains of the late Mrs. Angie P. Cuthriell were conducted by the Rev. T. McN. Simpson from the pulpit of Monumental Church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Messrs. George G. A.A. and W.H. Martin, Geroge P. and J.W.H. Porter, John G. and Joseph M. Hatton and Virginius Porter, all nephews of the deceased, were pall bearers.

Nov 3, 1895 - In this city, at the residence of her parents, No 60 Falkland street, Thursday, October 31, 1895, at 11:30 o'clock a.m. AMELIA EMILY SAY, daughter of Daniel J. and Bridget Say, aged 16 years. The funeral will take place from St. Mary's Catholic Church this [Sunday] afternoon at 3 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
