BRADSHAW
Dr. Thomas Clarke Bradshaw, age 90, of Blackstone, Va., died Saturday, August 4, 2001, at his home. He was the widower of Josephine Habel Bradshaw. T.C. was born in Burkeville, Va. on January 29, 1911, the son of Roy and Bessie Clarke Bradshaw. He was a 1929 graudate of Burkeville High School and later served on the Reunion Committee. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1929 to 1931 and attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry from 1931 thru 1935, graduating with a doctor of dental surgery degree. After graduation, he set up a practice in Burkeville over the Farmers and Merchants Bank and later moved his office to Blackstone, serving the community in his private dental practice for 55 years. In 1963, he was appointed to the State Board of Dental Examiners by Governor Albertis Harrison for a five-year term and reappointed in 1968 for another five years by Governor Mills Godwin. In the late 1960s, Dr. Bradshaw was elected vice president of the American Association of Dental Examiners and later became the president of the association. During that time, he was also a member of the National Board of Dental Examiners of The American Dental Association in Chicago. Dr. Bradshaw practiced dentistry from 1935 until January of 1990, when he was injured from a fall requiring him permanent confinement to a wheelchair. He was the past president of the Southside Virginia Rose Society, member of the Blackstone Baptist Church as a trustee and chairman of the deacons, Blackstone Rotary Club and a member of the board of directors of Central Fidelity Bank. T.C. is survived by two sons, Thomas C. Bradshaw II and his wife, Faye Greene Bradshaw of Lexington, Va. and Dr. James Leroy Bradshaw and his wife, Sylvia Wilkerson Bradshaw of Blackstone; three grandchildren, Timothy Scott Bradshaw, Thomas Everett Bradshaw and Christy Jo Bradshaw; a brother, Jimmy Bradshaw of Tappahannock; and a sister-in-law, Oza Bradshaw of Richmond. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, in the Blackstone Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Burkeville. The family will receive friends at home, 509 College Ave., in Blackstone, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blackstone Baptist Church, 407 S. Main St., Blackstone, Va. 23824. His remains rest at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home.

CARLTON
Josephine Elliott Carlton, 89, of King and Queen Courthouse, died Sunday, August 5, 2001. She was a member of Lower King and Queen Baptist Church for over 70 years. Her husband, Edward L. Carlton and a son, Alvie H. Carlton, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Hilda Courtney and her husband, Roland of Lancaster, Verna King of Mechanicsville; two sons and their wives, William L. and Shirley Carlton of West Point; Wendell and Doreen Carlton of King and Queen Courthouse; daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Carlton of Mattaponi; a sister, Bessie Vanlandingham of Odenton, Md.; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va., with burial in Lower King and Queen Baptist Church. The family will receive friends tonight 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Central King and Queen Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 26, King and Queen Courthouse, Va.. 23085 or Lower King and Queen Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Margie Longest, P.O. Box 875, West Point, Va. 23181.

CORNISH
Gertrude Miller Cornish, 81, of Richmond, died Friday, August 3, 2001. She is survived by her sister, Addie M. Hall; niece, Barbara H. Hall; and several great nieces and nephews. Her remains will rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Forest Lawn Cemetery.

CURRY
Died August 5, 2001, Mrs. Nellie H. Curry, 512 Clauson Rd. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral notice later.

DEATON
Coredelia B. "Dee" Deaton, 96, of The Hermitage, formerly of Ashland, the widow of Jesse Dawkins Deaton, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy D. and her husband, Malcom F. Jones of Greensboro, N.C.; three sons, John B. "Jack" and his wife, Beverly Deaton of Manakin, Va., W. Reid and his wife, LaVerne Deaton of Mechanicsville, Va., and Douglas C. Deaton of New Mexico; also ten grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 So. Washington Hwy., Ashland, on Monday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and where services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial gifts may be made to Ashland Vol. Rescue Squad, Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church or The Hermitage Home.

GARNER
Departed this life August 2, 2001, Mrs. Dianne E. Garner of 5205 Appleleaf Ct. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Ford Solomon. She is survived by her husband, James T. Garner; three daughters, Wanda Ford, Angela and Donna Jones; two sons, Jerome Ford and Bennie Jones; two stepchildren Michelle and Michael Garner; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandson; one sister, Beverly Batts; one brother, Lawrence Ford; two aunts, Margaret Turner and Helen Buckner; two uncles Benjamin Ford of El Paso, Texas and William Ford of New York, N.Y.; four nieces and cousins; mother-in-law, Lucille R. Garner; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law, and other relatives and friends, among them, three devoted, Ernest Charles and Delores Young and George Scales. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday, 1 p.m. at First Union Baptist Church, 3510 Dill Road, where remains lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Rev. Lawrence Smith officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at church 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

GRAY
Mrs. Dora M. Gray of Richmond, died August 5, 2001. Remains rest at the Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

HANSEN
Mildred May Hansen, age 90, died on July 22, 2001. She was the devoted aunt of Joan and Warner Blackwell of Richmond and Lorraine Roe of Jacksonville, Fla. In addition, she is survived by one son, Robert Hansen of Santa Monica, Calif.; one grandchild, Dawn Hansen of Hiram, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Mallory Hansen of Richmond; one great-great-grandchild, David; and one brother, George Bachman of Jacksonville, Fla. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, at 11:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 Parham Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice.

HANSEN
Russell Everett Hansen, age 61, of Glen Allen, Va., died August 3, 2001. He was retired from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Ga., and was employed by the American Lung Association as a health consultant, and was a member of the Dominion Club. Survivors include his wife, Eletta McDaniel Hansen; two sons and daughter-in-law, Timothy Andrew and Kristy Bivins Hansen of Raleigh, N.C. and Mark Christopher Hansen of Philadelphia, Pa.; his mother, Vivian McMonagle Hansen of Mason City, Iowa; brother, Ronald Hansen of Tucson, Arizona; and sister, Odette Woodward of Vancouver, Wash. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, Va. Memorial services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment in Mason City, Iowa. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Association.

HAYNES
Alfred Cleveland Haynes, 87, went to be with Jesus on August 5, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Elswick of Virginia Beach; three sons, Glenn and Jerry Haynes of Richmond and Rodney Haynes of Galveston, Texas; also five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 So. Washington Hwy., Ashland, on Monday evening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, with burial in Elon Baptist Church Cemetery.

HAYWOOD
William Stephen Haywood Jr., age 80, died Sunday, August 5, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Frances Adams Haywood; a son, William S. Haywood III of Newport News; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan H. and Michael W. Karn of Richmond; and two granddaughters, Mackenzie E. Karn and Kimberly O. Karn. The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News tonight, August 6, 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News on Tuesday, August 7 at 10:45 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a favorite charity.

Marvin E. Howard, age 69, of Richmond, Va., departed this life August 5, 2001. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving his family.

Michael D. Kane, 38, of Midlothian, died Friday, August 3, 2001 at Chippenham Medical Center. He was a civil engineer for Talbert & Bright, Richmond, Va. Husband of Irene S. Kane; father of Zachary A., Haley A. and Greer A. Kane; son of Lee D. and Barbara S. Kane and; brother of Laura A. Daniels and Marribeth A. Thorpe; grandson of John F. Spillman; uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Tuesday, August 7, 2001 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Services, Fredericksburg Chapel. MEJIA
Donna Wisooker Mejia, 47, of Mechanicsville, died August 4, 2001. She was born in Richmond and was preceded in death by her father, Harold L. Wisooker. She is survived by her husband, Gilberto (Gill) Mejia; her sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Emerald Mejia and Michael Mejia; her mother, Barbara B. Wisooker; her mother-in-law, Angela Uribe; her aunts, Florence Anne Houston, Betty and A.P. Hall Jr.; and best friend (aunt) Lucia U. Jordan; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law; and special friends, Barbara and Aubrey Ritt; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Mejia was the recreational director for St. Francis Home, with 20 years of service, where a memorial service will be held at a later date. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. A Requiem Mass will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Martins Episcopal Church, 9000 Martins Rd. Interment Washington Memorial Park.
