BETTY L. REEVES

Betty Lucille Reeves, 79, of Collinsville, died Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Stanleytown Health Care. She was born in Pulaski on July 6, 1932 and was a daughter of the late Paul McFall and the late Lena Reynolds McFall. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Eugene McFall and Elmer "Bud" Clinton McFall.

She was a member of Fairway Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Marvin Glenn Reeves of the home; one son, Curtis Wayne Reeves of Archdale, N.C., two daughters, Wanda Carroll Bennett of Collinsville and Sharon Ann Reeves East of Patrick County; one half sister, Laura Murphy of Mount Airy, N.C.; seven grandchildren and twin great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Fairway Baptist Church with the Revs. Kirk Montgomery and Mike Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

Arrangements were by Bassett Funeral Service.

WILLIAM E. ROBERSON

William Elgin Roberson, age 93, of Ferrum, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on March 3, 1918 and was a son of the late George and Mary Eanes Roberson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Janie Jamison Roberson; a daughter, Frances R. Ashley; and a brother, Charles Roberson.

He had retired from Stanley Furniture, and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Roberson of Stuart and JoAnn Roberson of Collinsville; one son, Ronnie Roberson of Spencer; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Union Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Mark Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

JESSE W. SWINEY

Jesse Wayne Swiney of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died January 16, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Vertie Swiney, who lived in Vesta.

Surviving are one son, Mark, of Virginia; one daughter, Sandra Moran of Roanoke; two brothers, Roger Swiney of Meadows of Dan and Jack Swiney of Taylorsville, N.C.; four sisters, Pauline New of Long Boat Key, Fla., Frances Spangler of Vesta, Carol Hoskins of Luray and Barbara Terry of Evington; and three grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held in Vesta at a later date.

Brown and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory in Bradenton, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

CLYDE J. WATKINS

Clyde J. Watkins, 94, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. He was born April 6, 1917, in Patrick County and was a son of the late Charlie Watkins and Zera Compton Watkins. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Stone Watkins; three brothers, Charlie Marion Watkins, John Henry Watkins and Harold B. Watkins; and five sisters, Myrtle Prillaman, Doris Pugh, Mabel Ramsey, Ruth Ramsey and Cleo Colston.

He served as an Army Tech. Sgt. 5 during World War II and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European/African/Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and German Occupation Medal. He was a charter member of Fort Trial Baptist Church and retired from Riddle Oldsmobile-Cadillac after more than 30 years of service

Surviving are his daughter, Patricia "Pat" Adkins of Martinsville; one brother, Wayne Watkins of Bassett; two sisters, Josephine Stone and Odessa Boothe, both of Bassett; one grandson; and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home by Dr. Joey McNeil. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Fort Trial Baptist Church, 170 Oak Level Road, Stanleytown, Va. 24168.

LOUETTE B. BOLEN

Louette Boyd Bolen, age 88, of Cana, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Heritage Hall-Laurel Meadows.

She was born in Patrick County on December 21, 1923 to the late Charles Harvey and Sarah Gwynn Boyd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Carlyle Bolen; and four brothers, Jessie Boyd, Monroe Boyd, Roger Boyd and Clifford Boyd.

She was retired from Spencer's Incorporated.

She is survived by sisters, Josie B. Epperson and Annie B. Johnson, both of Ararat, Judy B. Johnson of Walkertown, N.C., Margaret Boyd Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brothers, Clark Boyd of Ararat, Donald N. Boyd of Fayetteville, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Sheila Bolen Jackson of South Carolina; several stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy, N.C., with the Rev. Tommy Nichols officiating. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.

The family would like to give their deep appreciation to the staff of Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows for the love and care given to her.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cana Rescue Squad, 15607 Fancy Gap Hwy., Cana, VA 24317.

RODNEY D. BRADY SR.

Rodney Dale Brady Sr., age 59, of Martinsville, died January 31, 2012, at his residence.

Born November 10, 1952, in Bluefield, W.Va., he was a son of the late Bill N. and Norma Schrader Brady. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietname War, and was a very active member of AMVETS in Richmond. He received a bachelor of psychology from Ferrum College, worked for many years at Fieldcrest Mills, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter Andrea Brady of Richmond; one son, Rodney Dale Brady Jr. of Meadows of Dan; five brothers, Bill Brady and Brian Brady, both of Roanoke, Frank Brady of Richlands, Larry Brady of Galax and Steven Brady of Princeton, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date with the Rev. Dan Schelling officiating.

Collins Funeral Home in Bassett is serving the Brady family.

JAMES E. BRYANT

James Edward Bryant, 84, of Abram Penn Highway, Patrick Springs, died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.

Born in Henry County on May 18, 1927, he was a son of the late Edna Shelton Bryant and Henry Clyde Bryant. He was also predeceased by his wife, Gladys Burnette Bryant; and a brother, Clenard Bryant.

He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Patrick Springs. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from E.I. DuPont, Inc. He was a member of the Patrick Henry Volunteers, the DuPont Retirees Club and the DuPont Fire Brigade.

Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Taylor of Boise, Id., Victoria Wells of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Lynn Newman of Chocowininty, N.C.; four sisters, Dorothy Craig and Jean Stovall, both of Patrick Springs, Betty Nelson of Critz and Frances Martin of Patrick Springs; one brother, Jesse Bryant of Bassett; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Patrick Springs by the Revs. Rick Anderson and Wayne Hannah. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church tonight (Wednesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church Building Fund, 4432 Pleasant View Drive, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.

Arrangements are by Norris Funeral Services, Inc. and Crematory of Stuart.

MICHAEL L. COX

Michael Lynn Cox, 60, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Sunday, February 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born October 5, 1951, in Surry County, N.C., one of nine children born to the late Rhoten Garfield and Mabel Easter Cox. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Margaret Cox; and three brothers, Ted Cox, Jake Cox, and Paul Cox.

He owned and operated South Main Drive-In and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church.

Surviving are one sister, Sarah Simpson of Mount Airy; three brothers, Jack Cox of Claudville, Jimmy Cox of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dennis Cox of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.

LAURA E. ELLIOTT

Laura Eanes Elliott, 47, of Collinsville, died Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Patrick County on September 23, 1964 to Samuel "Buck" Eanes and Ruth Law Eanes.

She was a member of the Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and served as secretary of the Fontaine Ruritan Club.

Surviving are her husband, John Elliott; one daughter, Angela Elliott of the home; one son, Devin Elliott of Figsboro; one grandson; one brother, James Eanes of Pensacola, Fla.

The funeral service was held Monday in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hewitt, pastor of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

Pallbearers were Taylor Elliott, Carlos Santa Maria, Julio Santa Maria, Ray Martin, Damien Prater and Mike Williams.

CHARLES B. JARRELL

Charles Burgess Jarrell, age 74, of Jarrell Lane, Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday night, January 31, 2012 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He was born March 5, 1937 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Ben and Alma Hancock Jarrell. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Lebeau; and three brothers, Dr. Eric Jarrell, Thomas Jarrell and Arnold Jarrell.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired self employed truck driver and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sisters, Claudine Eaton of Lacarta, Fla., and Aleene Ward of Mount Airy; three brothers, Joseph Jarrell of Mount Airy, Frank Jarrell of Kernersville, N.C., Dallas Jarrell of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and a son-in-law, Steve Lebeau of Wilmington, N.C.

Graveside services were conducted Friday at Antioch Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Travis Sechrist.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 137 Antioch Dr., Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

RUSSELL H. MEYER

Russell Hamilton Meyer, age 54, of Stuart, died Monday January 30, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital of Patrick County.

He was born in Evansville, Ind., on June 19, 1957 to Russell Meyer and the late Barbara Grant Meyer.

Mr. Meyer faithfully served his country as a captain in the Marine Corp. He was a wonderful cook, funny, witty and just a great guy.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Ferida Michelle Cralle and husband, Joseph of Stafford, and Lara Danielle Meyer, who is serving her country in Afghanistan; his father and stepmother, Dr. Russell Meyer, Capt. USN Ret. and wife Donna of Stuart; a sister, Manya Meyer of Vineland, N.J.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harrison Meyer of Virginia Beach and Jesse Meyer and wife, Jillian of Suffolk; one stepbrother, Allen Touchstone of Ft. Benning, Ga., and a stepsister, Aubree Touchstone of Stuart.

A time of visitation was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, with a flag presentation by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard.
