STEPHEN M. WRIGHT

Stephen Morgan Wright, 44, of Clermont, Fla., and formerly of Henry County, died Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Staunton on September 4, 1968, and was a son of Allen M. Wright of Collinsville and the late JoAnne Gravely Wright.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, In addition to his father, are his stepmother, Jeannie P. Wright of Collinsville; one sister, Sarah W. Amos of Stuart; one stepsister, Crystal Parcell of Deskins, Fla.; and two nephews.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Community Funeral Service with Kelly G. Ratcliff officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

TERRY L. ARRINGTON

Terry Lynn Arrington, age 57, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He was born in Mount Airy on August 17, 1955 to the late Claude and Marion Estherlene Chappell-Arrington.

He was the maintenance manager at South Village Apartments in Mount Airy. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cold War.

Surviving are his wife, Molly Harris-Arrington; two sons, Justin Lynn Arrington and Jason Alexander Arrington, both of Mount Airy; two daughters, Alana Lee Harris-Arrington of Mount Airy, and Heather Wood-Tacy of Ashland, Ore.; one grandson; one sister, Sondra Claudine Williams of Central Square, N.Y.; two brothers, Danny Arrington of Cincinnati, Oh., and Claude Anderson "C.A." Arrington of Patrick County; and several nieces and nephews.

A musical, potluck celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on April 13th, 2013, at Faith Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church Rd., (off North Franklin Road), Mount Airy, N.C. Bring pictures to share, an instrument if you'd like to play, and your favorite dish of choice. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home, in Stuart.

NELLIE M. BOWMAN

Nellie Marshall Bowman, 94, of Green Spring Road, Ararat, and formerly of Bassett, died Saturday night, March 30, 2013, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.

She was born March 3, 1919, in Patrick County, one of 12 children born to the late Clearn and Loudellia Largen Marshall. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William Chestley "Will" Bowman; three grandchildren, Dennis Dean Bowman, Stephen Leonard Bowman, and Pansy Faith Dawson; four sisters, Earnie Quesinberry, Mary Mankins, Haley Fowler, and Hattie Bowman; and six brothers, an infant brother, Sherman Marshall, Jesse Marshall, Cannie Marshall, Frank Marshall, and Clinton Marshall.

She worked as a seamer and production associate for many years at Spencer's Inc., Quality Mills, and later retired from Stanleytown Furniture Factory.

She was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Brother Benny Dean Bowman of Bristol, Tenn.; two daughters, Kathleen Hawks of Sophia, NC, and Josephine Dawson of Ararat; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Marshall Thompson of Mount Airy, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with the Rev. Rayton Puckett officiating. Burial was in the Doe Run Baptist Church cemetery.

AGEE J. Carter JR.

Agee Jefferson Carter Jr. of Squirrel Spur Rd., Ararat, died Saturday, March 25, 2013.

He was born in Patrick County on July 20, 1956 and was a son of the late Agee Jefferson Carter Sr. and Lenora Brim Carter.

Mr. Carter had his own logging business, Ronnie Trucking Company, and worked for Aerial Machine. Agee loved to work outside, and his hobbies were working on cars and keeping them clean. Agee was willing to help others no matter what the situation might be.

Surviving are his wife Mary Carter of Martinsville; one daughter, Latasha Rene Carter; one stepdaughter, Velma Slade of Martinsville; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; his mother-in-law Clara Moore of Martinsville; one sister; Carol Green of Ararat; and two brothers, Rev. Ronnie Carter of Martinsville and Rev. Richard Carter of Ridgeway.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at Triumphant Pentecostal Church in Mount Airy, N.C., by Dr. Tony O. Carter, eulogist. Burial was in the VA Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C.

Arrangements were by Spencer Funeral Directors in Mount Airy.

LUVINA B. DALTON

Luvina Burnette Dalton, age 93, of Laurel Fork, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Landmark Center in Stuart.

She was born in Floyd County on January 31, 1920 and was a daughter of the late Charles T. and Lillie Nester Burnette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sparrell Dalton; a daughter, Betty Lou Skeens; a grandson, Allen McGrady; three brothers; and three sisters.

She was a member of Reed Island Springs Baptist Church in Meadows of Dan.

Surviving are two daughters, Iris McGrady of Martinsville and Phyllis A. Flippin of Mount Airy, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Mike Skeens officiating. Burial was private.

TERRENCE J. HYLTON

Terrence Joseph Hylton, age 29, of Mountain View Loop, Stuart, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

He was born in Patrick County on June 20, 1983 to the late Joey Barnwell and Sonya Hylton Barnwell of Stuart. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joe and Georgia Barnwell; and his paternal grandmother, Virginia Penn.

He was employed by the Stovall Brothers LLC for 14 years; was of the Primitive Baptist faith; and attended Patrick County schools.

In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory, his fiancée, Anita Green of the home; one son, Kamaury Hylton of the home; one sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly and Andrew Linster of Patrick Springs; his grandfather, Willie Penn of Critz; his Grandpa, Otis Reynolds of Spencer; great-grandmother, Eula Hylton of Critz; three nephews, Jaylan, Darion, and Joseph Linster; and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends.

Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Greater Tabernacle of Praise with Minister Ronnie Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Patrick Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of his sister, Kimberly Linster.

Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

BOBBY O. LAWSON

Bobby Odell Lawson, 69, of Madison, N.C., died Saturday, March 30, 2013, at home.

He was born January 23, 1944, in Patrick County, and was a son of the late James Willie and Louise Lawson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Lawson and Joe Lawson; and a sister, Norma Frances Bullins.

He attended the Old Country Church, and retired from Jones Metal Works with 40 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Veda Hicks Lawson; one daughter, Jennifer Lawson Hill; sons, Donnie Lawson, Billy Ray Lawson, Billy Parker, Tim Parker; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill Lawson, George Lawson, Harry Lee Lawson; and sisters, Ruby Gammons, Mary Lou Heath, Nancy Martin, Betty Sue Heath, and Lucy Holder.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at the Old Country Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, 2150 NC Hwy. 65, Reidsville, NC 27320.

Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home.

JANICE R. NOLEN

Janice Oliver Rakes Nolen, age 82, of Collinsville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Patrick County on January 28, 1931 to the late George Oliver and Ovilla Roberson Rakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Buel L. Rakes; and one sister, Jean Rakes Wood.

She graduated from McLane Business College and worked as a bookkeeper for Southwestern Virginia Gas Company, Cooper and Ratliff Grocery, Economy Auto Supply and Wicker House. She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, and was an avid genealogist and quilter.

Surviving are her husband, John Roscoe Nolen of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Nolen Jarratt and Eddie of Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roscoe "Rocky" Kent Nolen and Penny, Randall "Randy" Oliver Nolen and Angie, all of Kernersville, N.C.; four grandsons, John Nolen, James Nolen (Katie), Ryan Jarratt, Jeff Nolen (Lynn); four granddaughters, Jennifer Nolen, Shayna Hastings (Michael), Jana Nolen, Julia Nolen; four great-grandsons, Tyler Nolen, Xander Hastings, Logan Nolen and Ethan Hastings; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Pat Rakes of Mentor, Oh.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11 a.m. at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church in Martinsville with Pastors G.H. Vaughn and Lewis Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benevolent Fund, McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, 107 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

CLIFFORD E. ROGERS

Clifford Earl Rogers, 79, formerly of Richmond, where he had lived for 56 years before making his way home at Westwood Court, Bassett, passed away at his residence on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, on October 17, 1933 to the late Harrison B. and Anna Woodall Rogers. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; had worked for Vulcan Materials Company for over 53 years before retiring in 2009, and was of the Baptist faith.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Betsy "Betty" Williams Rogers; two brothers; Clarence and Richard Dean Rogers; a sister; Pearl R. Wingo; and two nephews, Richard Rogers and Dean Trent.

Surviving are three sisters, Louise R. Tatum of Patrick Springs, Claudine R. Cannaday of Oakland Park, Fla., and Carolyn R. East of Stuart; a special sister-in-law and caregiver, Gennell Williams of Bassett; special nephew and caregiver, Marvin Lee Fain of Ridgeway; two special caregivers, Betty Ragans and Glenda Howell, both of Bassett; two sisters-in-law, Mary Fern Baldwin of Hillsville and India "Dot" Haynes of Mount Airy, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Frank D. Williams of Sparta, N.C., and Joel "Pat" Williams of Elkin, N.C., and a number of nieces and nephews.

Clifford was a brother and brother-in-law that will always be remembered and missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Revs. Bernard Handy and Ralph Adams and Dr. Rev. Ricky Adkins officiating. military honors will be conducted by the Henry County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the Williams family cemetery.

RODNEY H. SAEGER

Rodney Herbert Saeger, 91, of Lawsonville, N.C., died Saturday, March 30th, 2013, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home.

He was born on May 3, 1921 in Cambridge Springs, Pa. He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Grace Saeger, and his youngest daughter, Melody Colleen Wright of Stuart.

He worked at Wright's Auto and Truck Parts until he retired in 2010. He was a World War II veteran with an honorable discharge and an Army of Occupation and Victory medal. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church in Patrick Springs.

Surviving children are Joyce Lynn Saeger of Eden, N.C.; Rodalia Ann Hoffman of Gresham, Wisc.; Ellen Jane Jones of Jupiter, Fla.; Marykay Phillips of Williamston, S.C.; Linda Ann Raab of Lawsonville, and Dennise Marie Yonker of Leopolis, Wisc. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens, Patrick Springs.
