ARMISTEAD
Dr. Claud Rodgers Armistead, 90, of Richmond, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. He is survived by one son, Claud R. Armistead Jr. and his wife, Linda of Deltaville; one daughter, Charlotte A. Jones and husband, Ralph of Old Church; one brother, Reginald Lewis Armistead of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dr. Armistead graduated from the College of William and Mary, Medical College of Virginia and received his medical degree in Periodontics and Oral Surgery from New York University. He opened his private practice in Portsmouth, Va., and then served in the U.S. Army in England as Captain in the Dental Corp. After WW II, he moved to Richmond and opened his private practice until retirement in 1977. He also taught periodontics at the Medical College of Virginia. Friends may call at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, corners of Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

BARNES
Mr. Curtis Wilbur Barnes of Richmond, departed this life Saturday, October 16, 1999. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

BECKER
Anne Warwick Cook Becker, wife of 54 years to Alford H. Becker, Sharps, Va., died Saturday, October 16, 1999. She was born August 8, 1926 in Danville, Va., to William Norman and Helen Reid Cook. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Alford H. (Ford) Becker Jr. of Sharps and David H. Becker of Newport News; a daughter, Marie Becker Smart of Paris, Ky.; a sister, Mary Helen Cook Blair of Woodlawn, Va.; a brother, William N. Cook Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Deloris H. Becker of Newport News, Va.; future daughter-in-law, Charlene MacCue of Warsaw, Va.; son-in-law, Thomas L. Smart of Paris, Ky.; brother-in-law, William A. Blair of Woodlawn, Va.; four grandsons, Alford H. (Hank) Becker III, Robert B.C. Becker, James Calloway Bowdler and Chad E. Smart; one granddaughter, Kristin M. Bowdler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John R. Cook; and a son, John Daniel Becker. Mrs. Becker has been an active member of the communities of Sharps and Richmond County. She had been most active in Milden Presbyterian Church, where she held numerous offices in the church at large and the Women of the Church, had been a long time Sunday School teacher and Bible School Teacher and had served as an Elder. She was currently serving as a Trustee of the Church, Co-Moderator of the Worship Committee, Bible Study, Moderator of the Women of the Church, and on the Health Care Center Program committee. She was Cub Scout den mother for 14 years and was den mother teacher for the Robert E. Lee Council. She was awarded the National Scout Council Merit of Order. She had been surrogate mother and grandmother to many young people and a special friend to people of all ages living on the Northern Neck and across the country. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 1999 at Welch-Marks Funeral Home, Warsaw, Va. with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19 at Milden Presbyterian Church, Sharps, Va. with interment in Milden Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the burial in the Fellowship Hall of the Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Milden Cemetery Fund or the Richmond County Volunteer Rescue Squad.

CONSTANTINO
Gus G. Constantino, age 70, of Richmond, died Friday, October 15, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Elsie K. Constantino; two stepdaughters, Linda Godbehere and Pamela Ann West; two brothers, Nick and Alex Constantino; a step-grandson, Brent Godbehere; four nephews, George V., Gregory N., Timothy M. and Jeremy A. Constantino; one niece, Julie Ann Burke; great-nieces and nephew, Kara, Alexa, Abigail, Alexie and Aaron Constantino. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., after 12 Noon Sunday, and where the Trisagion Prayer service will be held 7:30 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Interment Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Constantine and Helen Church Building Fund.

CRIGGER
Lawrence (Bo) Crigger, age 75, of Chesterfield, died October 14, 1999. He is survived by two sons, Dickie and Jesse Crigger; two brothers, Lewis and Pete Crigger; four sisters, Betty Satterwhite, Lilly Townsend, Bunny Wood, and Ella Graham; five grandchildren, Angie Garnett, Ricky, Jimmy, and Jesse Crigger Jr., and Kathy Ellis; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey Garnett, Selina Crigger, and Chante Wactor. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Staples Mill Chapel. Graveside services will be held Monday, 12:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

CROWE
Mrs. Florence M. Crowe, (Salley), 79, of Providence Forge, died Friday, October 15, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Archie C. Crowe Sr.; her sons, Archie C. Crowe Jr. and his wife, Paula, Charles E. Crowe and his wife, Sandy, all of Quinton; her sister, Roberta Huffman of Charles City; and her brother, A. Guy Marable Jr. of Providence Forge. Mrs. Crowe was an active member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and in the W.M.U. in Charles City. The family will receive friends at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Sunday, October 17, from 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Randy Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Smyrna Christian Church in King and Queen County. Memorials may be made to the Smyrna Christian Church in Bruington, Va., Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Charles City or to the Providence Forge Vol. Rescue Squad. Please omit food.

EVANS
Nathaniel (Nat) Edward Evans, 62, died suddenly October 6, 1999. He is survived by his mother, Tena Evans of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Jean M. Evans, also of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Harold Evans Sr. of Richmond, Va. and Watson W. Evans of Tacoma, Wash.; one uncle and one aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Winston Rollinson of Richmond, Va.; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. GIBBS
Gayle D. Gibbs, age 93, of Richmond and Hopewell, died Friday, October 15, 1999. She was the widow of Wilmoth Keesee Gibbs Sr. She is survived by one son, W. K. (Bill) Gibbs Jr. and his wife, Joyce Gibbs of Richmond; one daughter, Luella G. (Sue) Vaughan and her husband, Bob Vaughan of Mechanicsville; one brother, Neal L. Dye of Lansing, Mich.; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 18, in Hollywood Cemetery. Arrangements by the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

GOFF
Blair Parsons Goff, age 73, of Charlotte C.H., died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Robert O. "Bob" Goff for 45 years. Born March 1, 1926, in Charlotte C.H ., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Dodd Parsons and Essie Elliotte Parsons. She attended the College of William and Mary and was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy. She was the owner and operator of Parsons Drug Store until her retirement in 1982. She was a lifelong member of Village Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin D. Goff and Sari, of Keysville, Va.; two grandchildren, Joshua Ashworth Goff and Emily Blair Goff, also of Keysville; and her sister, Elizabeth P. Grimm of Clifton Forge; two nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 18, 1999, at the Village Presbyterian Church, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, October 17 at Browning Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte County Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice.

GOUFFON
Joan W. Gouffon of Richmond, widow of Philip F. Gouffon, died Friday, October 15, 1999. She is survived by her son, Philip F. Gouffon Jr. and his wife, Vickie of Richmond; three grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon and Kirby; her sister, Virginia Biondi, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Homer Willis, Charlotte, N.C., and Jim Willis, Alabama. Remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

HAMMOCK
Gertrude Riddick Hammock, age 86, died Saturday, October 16, 1999. She was the widow of Robert M. Hammock Sr. Surviving are ten children, Robert Hammock Jr., Virginia H. Cobb, Betty H. Graves, Logan Hammock, Bernice H. Hailey, Charles Hammock, William Hammock, Jene Hammock, Ralph Hammock and Richard Hammock. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita Hammock; and a son, Raymond Hammock. She was the grandmother of thirty five; great-grandmother of forty eight; and great-great-grandmother of two. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Meherrin Baptist Church, with interment in the Meherrin United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Miriam Eileen Harris, age 28, of Amelia, died suddenly, Thursday, October 14, 1999, in Dinwiddie County. She is survived by devoted parents, Franklin D. and Marian Crayton Harris of Amelia; grandmother, Jessie R. Harris; aunts, Wilma Stokes, Ruth Reed (Winston), Ethel Boisseau, all of West Petersburg, Mildred Walker (Willie), Karen Hinton (Carroll), all of Petersburg, Emma Ruffin (Ralph) and Martha Parrish, all of Dinwiddie Co.; uncles, David and Henry Harris of West Petersburg, Clarence Lewis (Margaret), East Hampton, N.Y.; special cousins, Anna Walker (Robert) and Gladys Smith, all of Richmond, Connie Gaud, Long Island, N.Y., Carol Stewart of Amelia; many other relatives and friends. Miriam was a graduate of Amelia County High School, Class of ’88, and The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Fla., 1995. HELLEMS
Rosa Stine Hellems, 94, of Morovia Road, Orange, Va., died Saturday, October 16, 1999 at the Autumn Care Nursing Home of Madison in Madison, Va. Born in Campbell Co., Va., she was the wife of the late Elonie E. Hellems. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Orange. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Hellems Bulls of Amelia, Va., and Myrtle Turner of Spotsylvania, Va.; one son, James Earl Hellems of Orange; five grandchildren, Jill Bulls Fuller of Richmond, Va., Jack Earley Bulls Jr. of Blacksburg, Va., Annie Rose Hankison of Spotsylvania, Va., Steve Hellems and Patricia Hellems of Louisa, Va. She was preceded in death by a son, Elliott Hellems; one brother, Robert Stine; and one sister, Annie McDowell. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the Preddy Funeral Chapel, Orange, Va., with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa, Va. The Rev. Wayne Goff will officiate. Nellie Nuttycomb Lanier, 86, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 16, 1999. She is survived by her two daughters, Dorothy S. Brown of Providence Forge, and Peggy L. Broaddus of Richmond; her two sons, Marvin Snoddy of Locust Grove, Va., and Raymond H. Lanier Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; her sister, Violet N. Childers of Roanoke, Va.; also eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lanier was a member of Ginter Park Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, October 19, 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. MAHONEY
Catherine Hughes Mahoney, 92, of Richmond, widow of James D. (J.D.) Mahoney, died on Friday, October 15, 1999 at Lakewood Manor. She is survived by many dear friends. Mrs. Mahoney was a second grade school teacher at Westhampton Elementary School during the 1940’s and 50’s, and then in Fairfax, Va. for over 30 years. She was a charter member of General Stuart Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a member of Ginter Park Baptist Church, the Nathaniel Bacon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 19. Interment Hollywood Cemetery.

MILLS
Helen Lewis Mills, age 74, of Edwardsville, died October 16, 1999. She is survived by her husband, John Wilson Mills; three sons, Roderick D. Belanger of Warsaw, Danny Diehl of Virginia Beach, and David Beatley of Schuyler; four grandchildren, Terri Belanger of Callao, Michael Belanger of Warsaw, Daniel Diehl of Virginia Beach and James Beatley of Schuyler. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood, officiated by Rev. M.P. White. Interment will be in the Fairfields United Methodist Church Cemetery, Edwardsville. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

McGHEE
James Homer McGhee, age 81, of Vinton, formerly of Crewe, died Friday, October 15, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Thelma A. McGhee; a son and daughter-in-law, James H. McGhee Jr. and wife, Carol of Midlothian; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Clarke Hale Jr. and Diane and Hunter Morrissette, all of Roanoke; four granddaughters, Betsy Bannan, Susan and Caroline Morrissette, all of Roanoke and Katherine McGhee of Midlothian; three grandsons, Andrew and Jon Hale of Roanoke and Todd McGhee of Midlothian; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Myra Todd Bald of Port Richey, Fla. Mr. McGhee was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church, Vinton. He retired from Norfolk & Western Railroad and United Transportation Union. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, Crewe, Va. with the Rev. Donald Seely and Dr. George Wesley Jones officiating. Interment in Crewe Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday 7 to 8:30 p.m.
