Edwin Starke Farley Sr., 85, of Richmond, died November 27, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maud Starke Farley and Ernst Watson Farley, founder of Richmond Engineering Co.; and brothers, James Cheever Farley and Ernst Watson Farley. survived by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor Caperton Farley; son, Edwin Starke Farley Jr.; daughters, Cary Randolph Adair Farley and Douglas Caperton Farley Shook; six grandchildren, Raleigh Douglas Singer, Eleanor Caperton Thomas, George Mathieson Singer, William Hobson Thomas Jr., Edwin Starke Farley III and Catherine Randolph Farley; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Elyse Singer and Abigail Grace Thomas; sisters, Susanna Schmitt Farley and Maud-Safford Farley Spencer. He was a graduate of the University of Richmond School of Business and a graduate of Cornell Executive Program, Ithaca, N.Y. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta for more than 50 years, River Road Church, Kiwanis Club of West Richmond for 43 years, and he was "Best Sheriff" of Kiwanis Club of West Richmond. He was Past President of the Sales and Marketing Club of Richmond, Council Executive of the Robert E. Lee Council Boy Scouts of America, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Boys Scouts of America, active participant in the development of Camp Brady Saunders Boy Scouts of America, Interclub Council Chairman, and instrumental in the development of the Tuckahoe YMCA. He was also a member of the Rotunda Club, Willow Oaks Country Club, Westwood Country Club and the Downtown Club. The family will receive friends at 1507 Thistle Rd., #103, in Regency Woods, on Sunday, November 29, 5 to 7 p.m. There will be a memorial service on Monday, November 30, at River Road Church (Baptist), Ridge and River Rds. at 11 a.m. Family will receive guests following the service at 1507 Thistle Rd. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Henrico County Christmas Mother.

FERGUSON
Mrs. Stella Bowles Ferguson, age 82, died November 28, 1998 in Farmville. She is survived by her son, Clarence D. Ferguson; one daughter, Geneva Lucille Ferguson, both of Farmville; one brother, Willie H. Bowles of Crewe. Family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Doyne-Burger- Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services Monday 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church, Cumberland. Interment Church Cemetery.

FOX
Cora S. Fox, 95, of Aylett, widow of James W. Fox, died November 26, 1998. She is survived by five of her seven children, Dorothy Pitts, Lillian Pabon, Marion Upshaw, Nelson and Carol Fox; two special granddaughters, Carolyn Helmick and Faye Vega, as well as many other loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Allen and Annie Moore. Remains rest at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett. Service at Sharon Baptist Church, King William, at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment in church cemetery.

HOLMES
Norma Faye Holmes (Grandma), 65, of Richmond, died November 28, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Aubrey B. Holmes Jr.; her children, Michael B. Holmes, Karen H. Barton, Kathy H. Freeman; her grandchildren, Heather R. and Bobby M. Holmes, Stephen E. and Sarah Kathryn Barton, Christopher L., David R., and Laura Ann Freeman. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday 9:30 a.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HUNT
Mrs. Gladys Kirby Hunt, 70, of Richmond, passed away November 27, 1998. She was the widow of Robert J. Hunt and is survived by her son, Robert W. Hunt and his wife, Deborah; four sisters, Ellen Purcell, Doris Bergener, Doris (Bill) Brindle, and Callie Drewey; two grandchildren, Jessica K. and Joseph C. Hunt. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Lakeside Vol. Rescue Squad.

JOHNSON
Erskine Cornell Johnson of Charles City, departed this life November 26, 1998. He is survived by his daughter, Brandy; granddaughter, Destiny; mother, Elizabeth Johnson; two brothers, Lindbergh (Willie Jane) and Edward Johnson; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, will rest at Little Elam Baptist Church, where services will be held 1 p.m. Rev. Robert W. Young officiating. Interment church cemetery.

JONES
Anne Mae Jones, 78, of Charlottesville, died Thursday, November 26, 1998 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born March 15, 1920 in Newport News, she was the daughter of William Washington Jones and Elizabeth Amos Jones. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Lane High School and business school, a member of the Brotherhood Ladies Auxiliary of Railroad and University Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Thomas M. Jones of Charlottesville; one son, Thomas William Jones and his wife, Anne Fryer-Jones of Glenwood, Md.; one daughter, Jo Anne Jones Coffin and her husband, Dexter D. Coffin III of Glen Allen, Va.; one sister, Louise Johnson Shifflette of Danville, Va.; six grandsons; and one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and a special friend, Jeane S. Booker of Charlottesville. A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 30, 1998 at the Hill & Wood Chapel with the Rev. Alexander Livesay officiating. Interment at Riverview Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, Va. 22901.

Mr. Robert Lee (Heavy) Jones, 61, of Richmond, departed this life on Friday, November 27, 1998 in Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife, Clara Trent Jones; one son, Thomas Lee Jones; two daughters, Betty and Mary Jones; his mother, Mary Frances Jones; seven grandchildren; six brothers; four sisters; two uncles; two aunts; eight brothers-in-law; ten sisters-in-law; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; other relatives and friends. His remains rest at the Marion Gray Thomas Funeral Home, Cumberland, Va. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. from Rocky Mt. Baptist Church, Cumberland. Rev. Larry Smith, Pastor; Rev. James Washington officiating, with interment in the church cemetery.

JUWA
Carolyn Clements Juwa, 51, of Chesterfield, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey J. Juwa; three daughters, Cheryl Louise Simpson and her husband, Mark, Candace Morton Robinson and her husband, Eric, and Danielle Seamans Klement and her husband, Alvin; one son, Richard David Seamans and his wife, Rachel; one sister, Kathleen Clements Jackson; one brother, Richard David Clements; six grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Tomahawk Baptist Church, interment Genito Cemetery.

KIRTON
David Miles Kirton, age 39, of Midlothian, died November 26, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Maria Agnes Velarde Kirton (Registered Nurse, St. Mary's Hospital for 13 years); his daughter, Chelsea Nicole Kirton; his parents, Robert T. and Janice G. Kirton of Midlothian; two brothers, Steven Craig Kirton and Robert Jeffrey Kirton; his mother and father -in-law, Aurora Guerrero and Felix Berto Velarde of Leyte, Philippines; his aunt, Jean Thomas of Horseshoe Beach, Fla.; his aunt and uncle, Mary Frances and Wayne Jones of Conyers, Ga. and his uncle, Larry Goodson of Marietta, Ga. and other close relatives and friends. Mr. Kirton attended Huguenot Road Baptist Church and was a parishioner of St. Edward's Catholic Church, was a member of Salisbury Country Club. He was an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance Co. for 13 years and a graduate from VCU (alumni of 1985). Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Huguenot Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

MARR
Shirley Hord Marr of Richmond, died November 27, 1998 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Clayton E. Marr; three children, Meredith M. Watson of Raleigh, N.C., Allyson M. Milburn of Studley, and Clayton E. (Ned) Marr Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; three grandsons, Brennan and David Watson, both of Raleigh, N.C., and William Clayton Milburn of Studley; two cousins, Blanton L. Price of Ventura, Calif., and Dr. Bertha C. King of Richmond. Mrs. Marr was retired from Henrico County School System and a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be private. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 30, 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Richmond Animal League, P.O. Box 35971, Richmond, Va. 23235 or Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

MICHAEL
Madeline Jones Michael, 62, of Ashland, Va., departed this life November 28, 1998. She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald G. (Pete) Michael; her son, Donald E. (Donnie) Michael; two daughters, Karen Denise Puryear and her husband, James M. Puryear Jr., Nathalie Michelle Pena and her husband, Gilberto (Gil) Pena; three grandsons, Gabriel (Gabe) Pena, Logan Matthew and Ryan Michael Puryear; one granddaughter, Madison Lee Puryear. Remains rest at the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday with interment in Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover, Va. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Slash Christian Church Student Scholarship Fund or the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Michael was a retired employee of Hanover County with twenty-three years of service and a member of Slash Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

NEWELL
Died November 27, 1998 Alma G. Newell, 86. She is survived by her husband, Grover C. Newell Sr.; her son, Grover C. Newell Jr.; her sister, Mary Riddell; her grandsons, T. Scott, and A. Roy Newell also four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. Interment Forest Lawn. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad or Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church.

PARKER
Birchie Marie Parker, 46, of Richmond, died November 24, 1998. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah M. Harris; her father, Richard Williams; her best friend, Juanita Cooper; three sisters, and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Maury Cemetery.

PORTER
Ruby H. Fischer Porter, 87, of Richmond died Thursday, November 26. She is survived by her husband James H. Porter; three stepchildren, Mary Lou Stitzer, Robert M. Porter and James Scott Porter Sr.; and several grandchildren. Mrs. Porter retired from the Social Security Office in Richmond. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where the family will receive friends on Sunday November 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. Also where a service will be conducted Monday 11 a.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Manor Care Nursing Home, and Hospice of Central Va., for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, for Stroke Research, 4323 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

POWELL
Elizabeth H. Powell, age 83, of Richmond, widow of Charles E. Powell, died November 26, 1998. survived by her children, Emmett Wade Powell, Thomas T. Powell and Elsie P. Hackett; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Services will be private.

RAGLE
Jean French Ragle, 68, of Chesapeake, widow of Henry E. Ragle, died November 28, 1998. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Ragle and Joyce Pardue and her husband, Van, all of Chesapeake; one son, Rob ert French of Chesapeake; two sisters, Janis Rouse of Mechanicsville and Lois Lumpkin of Montpelier; and granddaughter, Brandy Pardue. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sonny French. A funeral ser vice will be held Tuesday, December 1, 1998, 10 a.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park. Rev. David Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

RAY
John M. Ray, 78, of Richmond, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma J. Ray. Survivors include two sons, Larry Ray and his wife, Susan and Dean Ray and his wife, Helen, all of Powhatan; one sister, Nealie Harrell of Georgia; and four grandchildren, M. Dean Ray, Kami E. Sineath, Joseph M. Ray and John N. Ray. Mr. Ray was retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service. He was a retired lieutenant of the State Capitol Police and was a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #345. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday and 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday. A Masonic Service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bainbridge Street Baptist Church.

RICHTER
Virginia (Gina) McKinley Richter of Richmond died November 25, 1998. She was a retired secretary of Millhiser, Inc., an active member of Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Auxiliary and Volunteers and a lifetime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin Anne and Don Bolick of Norfolk, and Marguerite (Peggy) and Robert Dowdy; three grandchildren, Aaron, Matthew, and Kathleen Dowdy. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Medical College of Virginia Hospitals Auxiliary and Volunteers.

SMITH
Horace Smith, 78, of Richmond, died Saturday, November 28, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Audrey J. Smith; his sons, Horace Smith Jr. and Wendell G. Smith; his daughter, Catherine S. Moore; two brothers, David Vann Smith and Chester Smith; two sisters, Lucille Ivey and Mattie Lee Ham; and ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith was a member of the Manchester Moose Lodge No. 699, Ameri can Legion Post No. 186, and a World War II Army veteran. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Fu neral service will be held at the Tyndall Funeral Home, Mt. Olive, N.C. 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs, N.C.

Mrs. Margaret W. Trahan, 85, of Mechanicsville, died on Friday, November 27, 1998. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joseph E. Trahan; a sister, Rae Daniels of Greenville, N.C.; nieces and nephews, Roy H. Miller of Chapel Hill, N.C., Jim C. Miller of New York, N.Y., Ann M. Partin of Richardson, Texas, R. Harris Daniel of Greensboro, N.C., David W. Daniel of Raleigh, N.C., and Betsy D. Bullock of Richmond; and grandnieces and nephew, cousins and scores of wonderful friends. Her remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends on Sun day (today) from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 1998 at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 7356 Atlee Rd. Interment will be private in Virginia State Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church or the Girl Scouts of America.
