John Gibson Worsham, 87, of Richmond, died Sunday, November 29, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Curry Worsham; two sons, John Gibson Worsham Jr. of Christiansburg, Va., and Lucien Curry Worsham of Nashville, Tenn.; and five grandsons. Funeral notice later. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

ARNOLD
Howard Lawton Arnold, 52, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, April 24, 1999. He was the beloved husband of Linda L. Arnold; father of Traci L. Bailey; and brother of James W. White, Helen Barham and Harry L. Arnold. Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Harry L. and Margaret J. Arnold. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (today), and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

BAGENT
Died April 24, 1999, Elizabeth Powell Bagent, 77, of Ashland, widow of Wilson Daniel Bagent. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert M. and Phyllis B. Bagent of Glen Allen; granddaughter, Lynn Castle Ball of Glen Allen; great-grandson, Justin Shane Ball; brother and his wife, Alfred M. and Millie Powell of Richmond. Mrs. Bagent was preceded in death by her two sons, Jerry and Wilson Bagent. The family will receive friends Noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 South Washington Highway, Ashland. Graveside service 10 a.m. Monday in Woodland Cemetery, Ashland.

BAILEY
Frances Chadwell Bailey, 80, of the 200 block of Bowman Rd., passed away on April 24, 1999. Born in Tunstall, Va., she was the daughter of the late Herndon T. and Louise (Lynch) Lipscomb and wife of the late William E. Chadwell Sr. She had retired as a computer programmer supervisor from Richmond Quartermaster Depot (Bellwood). She was a member of Saint Peters Episcopal Church in New Kent County, Va., and attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, Va. She is survived by her husband of almost 21 years, George A. Bailey Jr.; one son, William E. Chadwell Jr. and wife, Patricia of Midlothian, Va.; one daughter, Sandra C. Fisher and hus band, George of Quinton, Va.; two stepdaughters, Kay Basden and husband, Martin of Virginia Beach and Carol Fentress of Norfolk; one sister, Ellen L. Dykehouse of Clermont, Fla.; two granddaughters, Erin C. Johnson of Midlothian and Sandy Frye of Columbia, S.C.; five grandsons, James Eric Chadwell of Hampton, Va., William E. Chadwell III of Midlothian, Drew Basden of Japan, George W. Fisher Jr. of Quinton, and Martin Fentress of Norfolk; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 27, 1999, 11 a.m. at Saint Peters Episcopal Church, 8400 Saint Peters Ln., New Kent, Va., by the Rev. Brian McGurk. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, after which the family and friends will gather in the parish house for a reception. A Thanksgiving service will be held at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. William G. Starkey, Monday evening (today) at 7 p.m., with visitation following until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the building funds at either Saint Peters episcopal Church or Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

BARKSDALE
Ellen M. Barksdale of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, April 24, 1999. She is survived by her husband, Paul C. Barksdale; two daughters, Jean M. Spicer and Linda M. Pendergast; one son, Edward N. Mathews Jr.; one stepson, Lee Barksdale; three sisters, Mable Diehr, Katherine Dale and Doris Galka; one brother, William J. Gray; three grandchildren, Lori S. Martin, Keith Spicer and Greg Pendergast; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Elayne and Hannah Elisabeth Martin. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 27. Interment in Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery.

BENNETT
Darrell Waymack Bennett, of Richmond, passed away suddenly April 22, 1999. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Waymack Bennett. He is survived by his son, Lane W. Bennett; former wife, Pat; a sister, Sherry Bennett Livesay of Hopewell; a brother, Keith A. Bennett and wife, Jessie of Springgrove; his father, Elbert Bennett of Kodak, Tenn.; and two devoted friends, Roger Critchfield and Angelo Jimenez. His remains rest at The Billups Funeral Home, 25th and Marshall Sts. Graveside services will be held Monday (today) 1 p.m. at Merchants Hope Cemetery, Prince George.

BERNARD
John Gilliam Bernard, born in Petersburg, Virginia, April 2, 1917, died in Wilmington, Delaware, April 21, 1999. Graduated from Virginia military Institute in 1939, served in World War II in North Africa and Europe, Honorable Discharge as Captain in 1945, then employed by Dupont until retirement in 1979. survived by his sisters, Irene Hillard of Virginia Beach and Mary Hamilton of Richmond; and by his wife Mary; and their sons, John, Jr., William, Thomas and Richard. Contributions may be made to the Boys Home, Covington, Virginia. Memorial services will be at a later date at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, Greenville, Del. Arrangements by the Chandler Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 110 N. Union Street, Petersburg, Virginia. Burial will be in Blanford Cemetery, Petersburg.

BIBBS
Departed this life April 22, 1999, Deaconess Betty E. Bibbs of 3316 Barton Ave. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Deacon Lawrence E. Bibbs Sr.; and daughter, Delores Cochran. She is survived by one daughter, Sally A. Hatcher; four sons, Lawrence E. Jr., Marvin T., James L., and Henry C. Bibbs II; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; four daughters-in-law, Madames Barbara M., Mary L., Sonora L., and Rev. Yvonne J. Bibbs; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral services Tuesday, 11:30 a.m. at Sixth Baptist Church, corner of Idle wood and Addison Sts., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. E.L. Fleming, Pastor, officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations, assemble at the church 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.

BONETT
Irving A. Bonett, 88, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 at Kutz Home for the Aged. He was the owner of Bonett's, a department store in the Richmond area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian who died in 1987. He was a member of Temple Beth-El, Richmond. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Schwartz of Chalfonte and Betty Kalkin of Burbank, Calif.; five grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 1999 in Richmond Beth-El Cemetery, Richmond, Va. Shiva will be observed at the residence of Barbara Schwartz, 2817 Landon Dr., Chalfonte, Wilmington, Del., on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Kutz Home, 704 River Rd., Wilmington, Del. 19809 or Delaware Hospice, Suite 100, Clayton Bldg., 3515 Silverside Rd., Wilmington, Del. 19810. Arrangements by Schoenberg Memorial Chapel.

COX
Wayne E. Cox Sr., age 68, died Saturday, April 24, 1999. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, the American Legion Post #354 and the Seventh Street Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Olivette P. Cox of Richmond; children, Debra C. McDowell and her husband, M. Gregory of Denton, N.C., Caralie C. Crane and her husband, Gary S. of Mechanicsville, W. Preston Cox and his wife, Lillian Elizabeth of Moseley, and Wayne E. Cox Jr. and his wife, J. Kristin of Richmond; and seven beloved grandchildren. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, at Seventh Street Christian Church, 4101 Grove Ave., where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Patrick Henry Boys Ranch, Trinity Episcopal School or the charity of your choice. Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

CREASY
L. Michael Creasy, 49, of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer and daughter, Jaqueline M. Creasy; his sisters, Jackie C. Wells and Michele Burgess; loving father-in- law, Calvin D. Roberts; sister-in-law, Stephanie R. Long; brother-in-law, Jerry Wells; and niece and nephew, Jessica and Daniel Atkinson. Mr. Creasy was employed by Taylor & Parrish Construction Co. for 29 years, and was a well loved and devoted member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. He was a faithful friend and cherished husband and daddy. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (today). Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Society.

CROWDER
James B. "JB" Crowder, age 67, of Blackstone, died Friday, April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. Crowder; son, Mitchell L. Crowder; two daughters, Wendy C. Meade, all of Blackstone, and Jennifer M. Maloney of Calif.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Garner of Blackstone, and Grace Smith of Texas; and a brother, Marshall Crowder of Crewe. Chapel funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, with interment to follow at 2 p.m. in Ephesus Methodist Church Cemetery in Clarksville. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.

HAMLETT
Geneva H. Hamlett, 84, of Richmond, died in a Richmond hospital April 23, 1999. She is survived by one sister, Woodfork Allen of Ruther Glen, Va.; two brothers, Granville Humphries of Bumpass, Va., and Woodrow Humphries of Texas. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 28, 1:30 p.m. at New Bridge Baptist Church, 5915 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond.

HOLMES
Linda R. Holmes of Powhatan, died April 24, 1999. She is survived by one son, Jared Lee Holmes of Powhatan; one daughter, Jeanette Rose Holmes of Richmond; her mother, Kathleen B. White of Richmond; one sister and her husband, Cindy A. Capel and Bryan of Chesterfield; and one grandson, Matthew. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Powhatan.

JARRELL
James Ivy Jarrell, 72, of Chase City, widower of Lois Rutledge Jarrell, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Linda J. Hazelwood of Chase City; three sisters, Eloise Yancey, Pauline West, both of Clarksville, and Tessie Hayes of Chase City; two grandchildren, Melanie and Jason Hazelwood of Chase City; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home on Monday, April 26, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 27, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Bobby Adams officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Mr. Jarrell was a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Woodmen of the World, and an Elder at First Christian Church in Chase City. Memorials may be made to the Chase City Rescue Squad.

MARTIN
Virginia Bednar Martin (Ginny), 70, formerly of Colonial Heights, passed away Saturday, April 24, 1999 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold L. Martin (Jiggs) and is survived by two daughters, Patricia Sparks of Farnham, Va., and Debi McCoy of Hubert, N.C.; three grandchildren, Michael Powell, Heather Hoge, and Brandi McCoy; one great grandchild, Taryn Powell; two brothers, Ernest Bednar and Richard Bednar; two sisters, Evelyn Strickland and Judy Moore; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Martin was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Colonial Heights and Parents Without Partners. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Richmond National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

MELTON
George H. Melton, 72, of Varina, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by three children, Randy Melton, Sue Schechter, and Robin Broughton; and their mother, Shirley S. Melton; two brothers, Stewart G. and Thomas C. Melton; one sister, Pauline M. Richardson; four grandchildren, Chad R. and Blake R. Melton, Christopher P. Broughton, and Caitlin M. Schechter. Mr. Melton was a retired employee of the State of Virginia Taxation Department. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

MILES
Leslie C. Miles Jr. of 2260 Meadow Rd., Sandston, Va., died April 23, 1999. Surviving are his wife, Maggie J. Miles; a daughter, Cheryl M. Wilkerson; a son, Leslie C. Miles III; three grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia M. Sorrell and Ethel M. Jefferson; one aunt; a daughter-in-law; a son-in- law; four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; two foster sons; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. After 11 a.m. Tuesday, remains will rest in Seven Pines Baptist Church, Williamsburg Rd., Sandston, Va., where funeral services will be held at 12 Noon. Rev. James L. Carter officiating. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

MOORE
T. Justin Moore Jr., retired chief executive officer of Virginia Electric and Power Company and Dominion Resources, Inc. and community leader, died Saturday night, April 24, 1999, at his home in Richmond, Va. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Bray Moore. He was 74. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mary Moore Wilkinson; a son, T. Justin Moore III; a stepdaughter, Billie Jean Coyle; a stepson, Charles Wayne Bray; brother-in-law, Dr. Howard McCue; eight grandchildren; three nieces and three nephews. A funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the St. Stephen's Endowment Fund or the St. Christopher's School Foundation.

POLSTON
Anna Sperisen Polston, 84, of Richmond, entered into eternal rest after a long illness at Forest Hill Convalescent Center April 25, 1999. She is survived by her devoted son, Marvin Thomas Polston Jr. and Stuart; her daughters, Doris, Jean, Mary Lou and Janice; a caring sister, Ruth Lightfoot and her daughter, Evelyn; sisters, Helen Mann, Lillian Smith and Katherine Durham; 19 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; 14 nieces and nephews; and cherished by many friends. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Edward, Leon, Joseph and Isadore. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 8:30 p.m. at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
