Departed this life January 18, 2001, Mr. William H. (Bill) Davis of Richmond, a Bellwood retiree. He is survived by four nieces, six nephews, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dawn, Caroline County, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Rev. Marvin Fields officiating. Burial church cemetery.

HUTCHINSON
Robert Wayne Hutchinson, 36, died suddenly Thursday, January 18, 2001. He is survived by his son, Robert Dale Hutchinson, age 8; six aunts, numerous cousins and many friends. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lakeside Vol. Rescue Squad, 2007 Timberlake Ave., Richmond 23228.

ICE
Robert Lee Ice of Lanexa, Va., died January 19, 2001. He is survived by a son, Daniel Benjamin Ice and wife, Margaret of Lanexa. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 23, 10 a.m. at Gatens Funeral Home, Poca, W.Va. Interment Ice Family Cemetery, Red House, W.Va.

IRBY
Dr. W. Robert Irby, 77, of Richmond, died on Sunday, January 21, 2001 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Connaughton Irby; three children, Catherine Irby Wellford, Bonnie Irby Williams and her husband, T. Evan Williams Jr. and William Robert Irby Jr. and his wife, Cynthia Pollard Irby; nine grandchildren, John Robert Conley, Peter Drury Wellford, Catherine Barrett Wellford, Brooke Louise Williams, Bridgette Irby Williams, Melissa Evan Williams, Mary Frances Irby, Anne Pollard Irby and Sarah Elizabeth Irby, all of Richmnd, Va.; one brother, Jethro Hurt Irby, M.D. and his wife, Margaret Ann Irby of Martinsville, Va.; and one sister, Annetta Irby Bagwell and her husband, William P. Bagwell Jr. of Richmond. Dr. Irby was born in Blackstone, Va., son of the late Jethro Hurt Irby and Prudence Bagley Irby. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Hampden-Sydney College, he later received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia. Following training in internal medicine and rheumatology at MCV, he joined the U.S. Army Medical Corps and was named Chief of Rheumatology at Walter Reed General Medical Cener, where he received a Distinguished Service Award. Following military service, he returned to MCV and joined the late Dr. Elam Toone in the Rheumatology Division as one of three rheumatologists in the state. His academic career began in 1954 when he was appointed an Associate Professor in Medicine. He was director of the Arthritis Clinic at MCV for 20 years. In 1970 he was promoted to Professor of Internal Medicine. He was awarded the Charles W. Thomas Professorship of Internal Medicine. He was awarded Professor Emeritus status by the University upon retirement. In 1995, friends and colleagues established the William Robert Irby Professorship of Internal Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at MCV. The University honored him in 1998 with the Presidential Medallion in recognition of his distinguished service to the University at many levels. Other honors included receiving the Laureate Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians and being named Master of the American College of Rheumatology. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Arthritis Foundation (National) and Distinguished Faculty Award from the MCV Alumni Association. This spring he will posthumously receive the Caravati Award from the MCV Alumni Association. He served as chairman of many committees of the American College of Rheumatology and was active in local, state and national committees of the Arthritis Foundation. His teaching duties at MCV were extensive and he served on numerous university committees. He was an outstanding teacher, consultant, and mentor. He was beloved by his patients. He has been president of other organizations including the Richmond Academy of Medicine, the MCV Foundation and the National Society of Clinical Rheumatologists. He was also a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, the American Medical Association, and the National Honor Medical Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Memberships include St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where he was a member of the Vestry, The Country Club of Virginia, and a member of the board at Westminster-Canterbury. Remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at St. Stephen's Church on Wednesday, January 24 at 11 a.m. Interment immediately following at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MCV Foundation, 1012 E. Marshall St., Richmond 23219, St. Stephen's Church or Thomas Palliative Care Unit at MCV, P.O. Box 985934, Richmond, Va. 23298-0934.

JONES
Ada Elizabeth Walker Jones of Chesterfield, widow of Lynn P. Jones, died January 21, 2001. She is survived by sons, Bobby Lynn and Jackie; daughters-in-law, Suzan and Mary Kay; three grandsons, Jonathan and wife, Tina, David and Jason; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Sierra and Jakob; and several brothers and sisters. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones was retired from Sears after thirty years of service and was captain of her championship high school basketball team in Littleton, N.C. She was also a devoted Tarheel fan. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the John's Foundation, c/o Johnston-Willis Hospital, 1401 Johnston-Willis Drive, Richmond 23235.

MEADOWS
Irving Green Meadows, 79, of Richmond, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Clara H. Meadows; his daughter, Nancy M. Holder and her husband, T. Michael Holder; granddaughter, Deborah H. Garrett; two great-grandchildren, William Chadwick and Michael Coleman Garrett; two sisters, Colleen Whitt of Felton, Del. and Mary Elizabeth Clanton of Oraville, Calif. His remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Mile Rd., Richmond 23231.

MUIR
Anna Harris Muir, 76, died Saturday, January 20, 2001 in Clinton, N.C. Born January 6, 1925 in Powellton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Herbert H. and Kathleen McAllister Harris. Mrs. Muir and her late husband, Ernest G. Muir, were former residents of Wakefield, Va. She is survived by her daughters, Deanna M. Barney and husband, Ron of Clinton, N.C., Katie F. Wyatt of Chesapeake, Va. and Andrea F. Hellyer of Wakefield, Va.; her sisters, Margaret H. Lanham of Summersville, W.Va., Vivian H. D'Elia of Monroe, N.Y. and Marvetta H. Dahir of Newport News, Va.; her brother, Herbert H. Harris Jr. of Pratt, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Muir was predeceased by her son, Ernest G. Muir Jr.; and her sister, Frances H. Francis. Funeral services will be held at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 W. Roslyn Rd., Ste. E, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834.

MUSSELMAN
Mildred Hampton Musselman, 73, of Glen Allen, passed away and resting in peace, January 21, 2001. She is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 53 years, Carl P. Musselman; loving and adoring daughter, Carla Paige Musselman of Maitland, Fla.; loving and caring sister, Dolores V. Stanton of Sandston, Va.; also several nieces and nephews. Mildred was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #9808, the Moose Lodge and Lakeside Baptist Church. She had a passion for Genealogy and had documented the family history back to the 1700's, publishing a book of the family tree in 1995. She retired as a Certified Professional Secretary and received many accolades as a Toastmaster. The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

NORMENT
Velma Clawson Norment, 87, of Hanover, the widow of Lemuel E. Norment, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Doris N. and her husband, Charles M. Culley of Hanover; a sister, Mary S. Dixon of Mechanicsville; a grandson, Charles M. Culley Jr. and his wife, Margaret; two grandchildren, Sarah E. Culley and Melissa L. Grimmer, all of Urbana. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Signal Hill Memorial Park. NORTON
Mrs. Pattie A. Norton, 91, of Richmond, passed away on January 21, 2001. She was the widow of Henry B. Norton, and is survived by her three children, Patricia N. Lukhard, Linda N. Robinson and Melvin L. Corso; one brother, Pete Wells; one sister, Mary Weaver; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave.

NUTTER
Mrs. Peachey E. Nutter of Richmond, died January 21, 2001 in University Park Nursing Home. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

PLEASANTS
Katherine (Kathy) J. Pleasants, 47, of Sandston, died Saturday, January 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband, John Pleasants; her father, Kenneth G. Jordan Sr. of Sandston; and two brothers, Dennis W. Jordan of Virginia Beach, and Kenneth G. Jordan Jr. of Richmond. Her remains rest at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 24, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Washington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

POINDEXTER
Beverly Overton Poindexter, of Richmond, passed away January 18, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Milton C. Poindexter Jr.; her four children, Hector R. Martinez Jr. and his wife, Starlett, Francisco Mario Martinez, Joseph A. Martinez and Alina Martinez Pitts and her husband, Joey; two stepsons, Joshua and Alexander Poindexter; two grandchildren, Destiny Martinez and Calobe Pitts; her brother, Herbert Overton Jr. and his wife, Judy; four uncles and one aunt, two nieces and one nephew. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

PROBST
Phyllis Folkes Probst, of Sandston, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2001. She is survived by Bobbie Tatum and her husband, Gene; two nephews, William Tatum and Thomas Tatum, both of Varina; one niece, Phyllis Tatum Stafford of Portland, Oregon; and numerous friends. Mrs. Probst was a member of Elko Union Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. John M. Roots, 79, of Manquin, Va., passed on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at the VA Medical Center in Richmond. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Final notice to follow later. Services of comfort entrusted to C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Va.

RUFFER
Dr. William A. Ruffer, 76, of Richmond, retired professor at Indiana State University, died January 19, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 54 years. Marianne S. Ruffer; daughter, Christa Silvestri and her husband, Patsy of Mt. Arlington, N.J.; son, William C. Ruffer and his wife, Rita Dattola of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Paula Maddern and Jean Clark, both of Wallingford, Conn.; also two grandchildren, Matthew and Courtney Anderson of Mt. Arlington, N.J. Dr. Ruffer was a member of Willow Oaks Country Club where he was an avid golfer and directed a duplicate bridge club. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where a memorial service will be held Monday, 4 p.m. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the U.S. Olympic Committee.

SMITH
Departed this life January 19, 2001, Deacon Graham Smith of 3505 Idlewood Ave. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mary P. Smith; one sister, Emma Tyler; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Tuesday, 1 p.m. at Grayland Baptist Church, 2801 Third Ave., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. Clifton Whitaker Jr., Pastor, officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
