DUNNAVANT
HOYLE Died February 6, 1997, Elizabeth Dunnavant Hoyle, 85, of Richmond. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Waverly V. Dunnavant Sr. She is survived by her husband, I. Lester Hoyle; daughters, Barbara Dunnavant Ober, Mary Anne Dunnavant Pryor; son, W. Vaughan Dunnavant Jr.; sister, Inelle Bacigalupo; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), where funeral service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to Alzheimers Association or Branch's Baptist Church.

EUBANK
Florence Morris Eubank, 93, of Richmond, widow of Robert Edward Eubank died February 7, 1997. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law; Virginia Eubank and Adolphus B. Shepherd; Ellen and Robert Mayo; two granddaughters, Ashley and Jerry Sisson; one grandson, Stephen Michelle Shepherd; also two great-grandsons, Scott Carrington and Lee Shepherd Mayo all of Richmond. Mrs. Eubank was the oldest member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Chapter No. 8, O.E.S. The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. and where services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church.

EWING
James Frederick Ewing, 78, of Richmond, died February 6, 1997 in a local hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances Jordan Ewing; 3 children, Tom and Fred Ewing and Polly Brown; sister, Peggy Ewing; 8 grand children; 7 great-grandchildren. He was born in Monongahela, PA and served with the 28th Division and 110th Infantry during WWII. He was a former employee with Thalhimer Brothers and Firestone Tire Centers and also was a member and past Commander of The American Legion Post 137. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and where services will be conducted 10 a.m. Sunday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

GALVIN
William Roland Galvin, 93, of Richmond died Friday, February 7, 1997. Born in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late William Francis and Mattie Wright Galvin. He was the widower of Louise Fry Galvin, M.D., who died in 1992. Mr. Galvin is survived by his sister, Frances Galvin Ward of Sterling; three nieces, Betty Ward Putnam of Warrenton, Ann Ward Lindengren of Bluemont and Dr. Grayson Foy of Richmond; two nephews, Stephen Beecher Ward of San Francisco, Calif. and William Roland Ward of Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Fry Foy and Mary Lillian Fry, both of Richmond. He received his B.S. from Richmond College, University of Richmond where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, Omicron Delta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma and Pi Delta Epsilon. Mr. Galvin received his M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. He taught at Blackstone military Academy 1926-28, Chester High School 1928-29, John Marshall High School 1929-31, taught and was Head of the Science Department at Thomas Jefferson High School 1931-42, Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson High School 1942-45, and Principal at Westhampton Junior High School 1945-67. Mr. Galvin was a member of Boulevard United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Fry Bible Class, served as Historian and was an honorary member of the Administrative Board. He was Past President of the Richmond College Alumni Society, charter member and past board member of the Friends of Frederic W. Boatwright Library, charter member and Past President of the Kiwanis Club of West Richmond, member and Past President of the Richmond Civil War Round Table, member of the Virginia Historical Society, English Speaking Union, Museum of the Confederacy, Valentine Museum, member and Past President of the Richmond-Henrico Retired Teachers Association. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

GATEWOOD
Evelyn H. Gatewood, 81, of Richmond, widow of Earl P. Gatewood, passed away Thursday, February 6, 1997. She is survived by two daughters, Lois G. Stewart and Nancy G. Allen; son-in-law, A. Vann Allen Jr.; four grandsons, Mark and Chris Allen, David Stewart, all of Richmond, and Michael Stewart, of New York City; a granddaughter, Katherine A. Tucker, of Richmond. Mrs. Gatewood was a member of Ginter Park United Methodist Church and was retired from the Virginia State Highway Department. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 10, 1997 in Westhampton Memorial Park.

GOODEN
Richard E. Gooden of Chesterfield entered into rest Thursday, February 6, 1997. He is survived by his father, William H. Gooden of Chesterfield; three sisters, Rosa Woolridge of Chesterfield, Queen Mosby and Emma Gooden of Richmond; two brothers, Melvin Gooden and Arthur Harris of Chesterfield; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; one uncle, William Giles, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Saturday (today) 12 Noon at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chesterfield Co. Pastor Norwood G. Carson officiating. Interment church cemetery. Remains will rest in church one hour prior to service. Relatives and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the church (today) 11:30 a.m.

GUZA
Gladys B. Guza, 87, of Abingdon, formerly of Richmond, died February 6, 1997. She was the widow of S. Henry Guza Jr. She is survived by her son, Sam H. Guza III of Abingdon; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9, in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HANKS
Philip D. Hanks, age 46, owner of Road Runner Courier, died February 5, 1997. He is survived by a daughter, Stacey; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Charles Luck, Sr.; his father, J. W. Hanks, Sr.; a brother, J. W. (Billy) Hanks, Jr.; a sister, and brother-in-law, Janice and Greg Simmons; a stepsister, Phyllis Brown; a stepbrother, Charles H. Luck, Jr.; several nieces and a nephew. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. where funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

JONES
Departed this life February 7, 1997, Lucille M. Jones of Ruther Glen. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, Washington Hwy. (U.S.1 N) Ashland. Funeral notice later. McCarthy Director.

KIDD
Alice Richardson Kidd, 78, of Petersburg died Friday, February 7, 1997 at her residence. She was a native of Petersburg and the daughter of the late Howard W. and Vallie Woodlief Richardson Sr. She is survived by her husband, Thomas P. Kidd Sr.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia K. and Richard S. Curry of Prince George; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas P. and Judith W. Kidd Jr. of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Thomas P. Kidd III, Edward W. Kidd, Ellen R. Kidd, Richard S. Curry Jr. and Bryan R. Curry; and brother, H. Wesley Richardson Jr. of Richmond. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Matoaca United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Julius H. Lee officiating. Interment will be in East Matoaca Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. at the residence. Contributions may be made to Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, Matoaca, Va. 23803. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Petersburg.

MADISON
Died February 7, 1997, William G. "Bill" and "Junior" Madison Jr., 72, of Doswell, husband of the late Joyce Beasley Madison. He is survived by his devoted children and devoted sons-in-law, Edwina and Berkley Hale, Ashland, Susan and Gregory Derricott, Doswell, William (Garry) Madison III and Rhonda and Michael Mills, all of Ashland, Nina and Gerold Godsey and Jacque and Thomas Bowmaster, all of Richmond; 13 grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren, six sisters and brothers, Agnes Smith, Hilda Madison, Dorothy Kelly, Edward, John and David Madison, all of Richmond; and a devoted family friend, Jesse Warren. The family will receive friends Saturday 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where services will be held Monday, 2 p.m. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to American Cancer Society.

Died February 6, 1997, Clifton C. Meads, 66, owner of Straw & Feathers Country Decor. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Meads; son and daughter-in-law, Benny R. and Jill F. Meads; daughter and son- in-law, Susan M. and Robert P. Webb; grandchildren, Stephanie L. and Cameron S. Meads, Kate M. Webb; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Eldon Boom; stepchildren, Michael Henry Calhoun and Wanda Marie Benton; step-grandchildren, Darin S. and Chad A. Bottiger, Darrell and Christopher Calhoun. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12 noon (today) at Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gar den. Memorial gifts may be made to the Clifton C. Meads Scholarship Fund, c/o Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church.

Barbara Ann Murray, 64, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, February 6, 1997. She was the widow of William L. Murray, and is survived by her daughters, Robin M. Stainback, Rebecca M. Stewart, and Carol M. Mar shall; grandchildren, Jan-Michael Stainback, Shannon C. Stewart and Stephen W. Stewart. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

O'BRIEN
Lela Taylor O'Brien, 86, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, February 6, 1997. She was the widow of Donnell E. O'Brien and is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Ann O'Brien Moore and son-in-law, James Edgar Moore; three grandchildren, Brien Donnell Moore, Erin Kathleen Moore and Megan Elizabeth Moore; three great-grandchildren, Frances Neylan Moore, James Brien Moore and Jessica Erin Moore. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Dinwiddie. Interment church cemetery.

OLSON
Betty (Ma) F. Olson of Chesterfield County, born January 24, 1936, died February 6, 1997. Born in Greenville, S.C. to the late A. W. and Lillie Fowler, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kenneth Olson. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela O. Coleman, son-in-law, Bill Coleman, and their sons, John and Mike Coleman, all of Chesterfield; son, Charles T. (Tom) Olson, and his wife, Sallie Olson, and their children Anders and Ingrid Olson, all of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; sister, Edith Davenport, and two brothers, Jack Fowler, and Clayton Fowler, all of Greenville, S.C.; brother, Curtis Fowler of St. Cloud, Fla. She was a volunteer at Jacobs Rd. Elementary School, and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Please make contributions to St. Augustine Building Fund or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 4400 Beulah Rd.

Daniel Earl Patterson Jr., seven month old son of Samantha Renee Lee and Daniel Earl Patterson Sr. of Chester, died February 7, 1997 in Chippenham Hospital. Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Nathan M. Lee of Chester; two uncles, Daniel Lee of Chester and Joe Patterson of Richmond; maternal grandmother, Roberta S. Lee of Chester; paternal grandmother, Mary Patterson of Richmond; maternal great- grandparents, Robert and Anna Stigall Sr. of Chester; a godfather, Marvin Adkins; two cousins, Anna and Shannon Mullenix of Chester. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 10 at the graveside in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, Saturday (tonight) from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Mary Lula Taylor Pearson, 85, died February 7, 1997. She was the widow of George Norman Pearson. She is survived by two daughters, Jane Pearson Gurkin of Brunswick County, Nellie P. Mitchell of Ante, Va.; three sons, George Anderson Pearson of Richmond, Francis Norman Pearson of Gasburg, Va. and Robert Graham Pearson of Boykins; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Independence United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight 7 to 8:30 in Echols Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Poole, widow of Clyde L. Poole Sr. of Richmond, died February 6, 1997. She is survived by her son, Barry N. Poole and wife, Mary J.; daughter, Sheila P. Turner and husband, Mike; stepson, Clyde L. Poole Jr.; stepdaughter, Margaret P. McBee; sister, Ruth Litten; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Brandon Poole.
