Lynette Scott Griffith, 48, of Chesterfield, co-pastor of Unity Christ Church of Bon Air, died Sunday, May 11, 1997. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Gary Griffith; two daughters, Emily and Sara Griffith; mother, Jeanette Scott of Chesapeake; brother, Bill Scott of Virginia Beach; and one nephew. Mrs. Griffith was a teacher in the Chesterfield County Public School System and a co-leader with Girl Scout Troup No. 3031 in Midlothian. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Lynette Griffith Memorial Fund, c/o 2450 Cedarcrest Rd., Richmond VA 23235.

Departed this life May 16, 1997, William J. Hatchett of 210 Montezuma Avenue. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral notice later.

HOGGE
William M. "Billy" Hogge III, age 29, of Mascot, a Chesapeake Corporation employee died Friday, May 16, 1997. He was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church. survived by his wife, Shawn Soles Hogge; his parents, Ruby S. and William M. Hogge Jr. of Church View; three sisters, Donna Owens of Mathews, Celia Collier of Saluda, Carolyn Goodrich of Church View; his maternal grandmother, Marie Sibley of Urbanna. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. Interment in Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery, Church View. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

HOWELL
Departed this life May 16, 1997, Mrs. Mattie Magdalene Howell of 511 N. 32nd St. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

HUDSON
Dorothy Hudson passed away Thursday, May 15, 1997, at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Raymond M. Hudson in Powhatan County. Miss Hudson was the daughter of the late Henry Calvin and Nannie Winham Hudson. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Martin Hudson. She is survived by her nieces, Nancy H. Hall and her husband, Richard E. Hall, Sarah J. Hudson, Teresa Hudson and her husband, Joseph C. Troncale; as well as her sister-in-law, Jean H. Hudson. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17. Interment in church cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to the Bethel Scholarship Fund or a favorite charity.

HUDSON
Lorraine D. (Dee) Mays Dickens Hudson of Chesterfield County died May 16, 1997 at home. She is survived by her husband of 11 years, J. Porter Hudson; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lassiter (Buzz) and Mary Lou Dickens; her daughter and son-in-law, Renee Dickens and Paul Dwight Marshall; four grandsons, Robert III (Robbie) and Jeffrey Wyatt (Jeff) Dickens, William Hobson III (Trip) and Christopher Scott (Chris) Murphey; one great-grandson, Cameron Taylor Murphey, son of Trip and Kim Murphey. Mrs. Hudson was a 1938 graduate of Manchester High School. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd. Services will be held at Providence United Methodist Church, 901 S. Providence Rd. Monday at 11 a.m. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Providence United Methodist Church.

Departed this life May 15, 1997, Mrs. Helen Hazel Jones of 617 Cries Rd. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Funeral notice later.

McCOY
Departed this life May 14, 1997, Mrs. Ellen B. McCoy of 1400 Wallace Street. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral notice later.

McGUIRE
Mr. Thomas (Buddy) McGuire, 75, of Midlothian, died May 15, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Mary Arline Wray McGuire; his daughter, Pamela McGuire Womack and her husband, Ronald Lee; two grandchildren, Christine C. Downs Copa and her husband Mark, and Hillary Tripp Womack; several nieces and nephews. Mr. McGuire was a WWII paratrooper and a retired control equipment supervisor at E.I. Dupont and an avid golfer. He was a member of the James River Woodcarvers Association and the Chesterfield Historical Society. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chester Baptist Church where he was a member and former deacon. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Chester Baptist Church New Building Fund, 4317 W. School St., P.O. Box 356, Chesterfield, Va. 23831. Bliley Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel in charge of arrangements.

ROBERTS
Retired Methodist Minister, William T. Roberts Sr., age 77, went to be with his Lord on May 14, 1997. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn G. Roberts; four sons, Stanley Roberts of Hague, Va., Ronnie Roberts of Purcellville, Va., Michael Roberts of Winchester, Va., William Roberts Jr. of Martinsburg, W.Va. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Lucas of Woodbridge, Va.; 23 grand children, 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, Purcellville. Interment will be in Arnon Cemetery, Great Falls.

SALE
Sarah Ellen Penn Sale, 97, of Richmond, widow of William C. Sale, died Wednesday, May 14, 1997. She is survived by her nephew, Lawrence R. Burton of Stuart, Va.; and a number of great-nieces and -nephews. Mrs. Sale retired after 48 years with the RF&P Railroad. She was a member of All Saints Reformed Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

SHORT
Nora "Lynn" Short of Powhatan, went home to be with the Lord, May 14, 1997. She is survived by her parents, The Rev. Herbert and Joy Short of Powhatan; two brothers; three sisters; nine nieces and nephews; and a host of many loving friends and family. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy., Powhatan. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bethesda Church of God. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bethesda Church of God Benevolence Fund, Powhatan, Va. 23139.

SLOOPE
Billy W. Sloope Sr., age 73, of Richmond, died May 14, 1997. survived by wife, Anne Cary Sloope; two sons, B. Warren Sloope Jr. and daughter-in-law Marykay Sloope; Terry W. Sloope and daughter-in-law Pamela Sloope of Cartersville, Ga.; grandson, Zachary Tyler Sloope; two brothers, Guy L. Sloope of Waynesboro, Va. and Chester Sloope of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. A. K. Everett of Sneads Ferry, N.C. Mr. Sloope was a member of Welborne United Methodist Church, a retired professor of physics at VCU and was a Veteran of World War II Army Airforce. Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Parham Chappel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Welbourne United Methodist Church. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions can be made to Welbourne United Methodist Church or favorite charity of choice.

TAYLOR
Thomas C. Taylor of 3078 Logandale Ave., departed this life May 16, 1997. Remains rest at the Carlton T. Brooks Funeral Home, 2200 Hull St. Funeral notice later.

THOMPSON
Lois Bowman Thompson, 66, of Chester, widow of William H. Thompson, died Friday, May 16, 1997. She is survived by a son and daughter-in- law, Michael Ritchie and Katherine Thompson; a grandson, Jonathan Michael Thompson; her mother, Pearl Betts; a brother, Julian Walter Bowman. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Courthouse Rd. and Petersburg Seventh Day Adventist Churches. the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. Mrs. Thompson's contributions to the Lord's work will be remembered throughout the community.

TINSLEY
Mrs. Gaynelle Hermie Tinsley, 82, of Richmond, died May 16, 1997. She was the widow of William K. Tinsley and is survived by many loved ones and friends. Visitation will be Sunday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home, Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiated by her devoted pastor, Rev. Joe Carson. Interment Maury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Fairmont United Methodist Church.

UPCHURCH
Vernice Upchurch, 85, of Richmond, died Thursday, May 15, 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Narron; one grandson, Thomas Narron; two great-grandsons, Jeff and Joe Narron. William M. (Billy) Wash Sr., of Richmond, Va., died Thursday, May 15, 1997. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Lee Wash and his brother, Dr. Robert W. Wash Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline M. Wash; three sons, William M. Jr. and James A. Wash, both of Midlothian and Stephen M. Wash of Richmond; two daughters, Patricia W. Jackson and Cynthia W. Creed, both of Richmond; two sisters, Elizabeth W. Park and Sally W. Alley, both of Mechanicsville and six grandchildren. His remains rest at the Lacy Funeral Home, Rt. 522, Orchid, Va., where family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in South Anna Baptist Church with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa.

Mrs. Aubredrella Vaughan Wells (Drell) of 2022 Boston Ave. departed this life May 15, 1997. The staff of the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home is serving her family.

Departed this life November 26, 1998, William G. "Bill" Allen of Glen Allen. Remains rest at the Henry W. Dabney Funeral Home, Washington Hwy. (U.S. 1N) Ashland. Funeral notice later. McCarthy, Director.

ALLEN
Mr. Charles Sidney Allen, 74, of Stony Creek, widower of Sibyl M. Allen, died Thursday, November 26, 1998. He is survived by two daughters, Pam Jarratt of Stony Creek and Kim Andrews of Dallas, Texas; four sons, Ricky Carte of Charlotte, NC, Jerry Wiseman of Myrtle Beach, SC, Terry Ashworth of Charleston, WV, and Danny Harmon of Farmville; an adopted daughter, Paulette Lively of Chester, Va.; two sisters, Reava Schultz of Richmond and Irene Evelyn of Pa.; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dallie L. Jarratt. A graveside memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 30 at Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 58, Yale, Va. 23897. Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Va. is in charge of arrangements.

Morgan Edison Baker, age 90, of Keysville, died Friday, November 27, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Mellissa W. Baker; one daughter, Carrie W. Newcomb, Keysville; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Richard L. Baker, Randolph; one sister, Katherine Dickerson, Pamplin. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 1998, at New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Browning Funeral Home 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, November 28.
