GANTZ
David Irvin Gantz, 53, of Sandston, died Friday, April 16, 1999. He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Gantz and his brother, Danny Eugene Gantz. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Gantz; a sister, Susan Boyce; three brothers, Terry W., Gary L. and Lanny D. Gantz. David was a member of Four Mile Creek Baptist Church. Remains rest at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park.

GEORGE
Samuel Francis George III, age 53, of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Tampa, Florida, deceased April 14, 1999. He was a graduate of University of Florida and was attending the Medical College of Virginia Master's Program. Mr. George served in Vietnam from 1969-1972. He received the following honors, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He was a previous member of the Virginia Historical Society and Virginia Archeology Association. Mr. George is survived by his loving wife, Libby; his parents, Samuel F. and Margaret George of Tampa, Florida; a son, Beau and daughter, Brooke; his brother, Christopher George and wife, Mary Lou; another brother, Brian George; and a sister, Mary Pate and her husband, Henry. The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road, Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Vietnam Veteran's Association.

GOLDEN
A memorial service will be held for Cecil James Golden, formerly of Sandston, who passed away on February 18, 1999. The service will be Saturday April 17, 1999, at 2 p.m., at the Sandston Baptist Church, 100 West Williamsburg Rd.

HARRIS
George Jackson Harris, Jr., 69, of Richmond died April 16, 1999. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly England and Pamela Harris; two sisters, Estelle Urban and Jean Jileau; five grandchildren, Frankie and Jamie Villa, Heather, George "Jason" and Joey Harris. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel 3801 Augusta Ave. where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Riverview Cemetery.

HAWKINS
Shyra A'Lexus Hawkins, 2 years old, passed away April 14, 1999 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. She leaves to mourn her father and mother, William and Erica Hawkins; and her loving big brother, William Hawkins Jr. (Billy); grandmother, Cynthia Brown Harden; grandfather, Joseph C. Garnder III; great-grandmother, Lucy T. Brown; and a host of other relatives and special friends. Service will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church, Warsaw, Va. Pastor Ronnie Sydner. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service. Arrangements by The Lee Funeral Home in Warsaw, Va.

HOFF
Helen C. Hoff, 91, of Richmond, widow of Acy Webster Hoff, died April 16, 1999, following a long illness. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Hoff Nolley of Richmond and Mary Ann Galloro of Cy press, Calif.; a son, Paul W. Hoff of Bedford, N.H.; a sister, Anna Colinsky of Dunedin, Fla.; a brother, Thomas Czublak of Farmington Hills, Mich.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Born in Fayette Co., Pa., Mrs. Hoff resided most of her life in Pitcairn, Pa. and Englewood, Calif. before moving to Richmond in the 1980's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dominion Place, 1025 W. Grace St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

JETT
James Wilson Jett, 81, of Heathsville, died April 15, 1999. Surviving are his wife, Doris E. Jett; daughter and son- in-law Patsy J. Basye and Thomas W. Lottsburg; sons and daughters-in- law, J. Mitchell Jett, King William, W. Michael Jett and Nancy D., Ashland, Ronnie Jett and Nancy N., Heathsville; brothers, Talmage Jett and L. Thomas Jett; sisters, Katherine J. Harrison and Barbara J. Deihl; six grandchildren; two step- grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home Rainswood. Interment Roseland Cemetery, Reedville. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Northumberland Chapter American Cancer Society or Northumberland Rescue Squad.

MUSTARD
Albert Eugene Mustard, age 78, died April 14. He is survived by one son, Albert E. Mustard Jr. of Bland, Va.; one sister, Josephine Stowers of Bland, Va.; Jake and Wayne Mustard of Bland, Va.; and Kermit Mustard of Pulaski; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday (today) at the Emporia Cemetery, Emporia, Va. Echols Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

POULSON
Katherine G. Poulson, of Richmond, passed away Friday, April 16, 1999. She is survived by her parents, James H., and Katherine W. Poulson; her sister Cynthia K. Kerr; and her grandparents, Malvin J. Williams, and Pearl M. Poulson. Mrs. Poulson earned a Bachelor's degree in French, and a Master's degree in Education from VCU, and was a member of Jahnke Road Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Jahnke Rd. Baptist Church. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

PRINCE
Eleanor S. Prince, 89, of Richmond, retired seamstress for Friedman and Marks, and widow of Richard B. Prince, died April 14, 1999. She is survived by her son, Charles W. Prince and his wife, Mary of Rich mond; two sisters, Eva Prince of Warrenton, Va., Vernell Garnett of Fredericksburg, Va.; brother, Willis Greenstreet of Moorehead City, N.C.; six grandchildren, Chuck, Susan, Jimmy, Donald and Stuart Prince, and Elizabeth McGehee; also nine great-grandchildren, Jared, Carly, Barrett, Laura, Amanda, Jacquie, and Tori Prince. Also Rusty and Brittaney McGehee. She was a 72 year member of St. James United Methodist Church and belonged to the Sunshine Class at Lakeside United Methodist Church. Remains rest at Parham Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

PRUETT
Charles U. Pruett, 83, of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Merry Point, Va., a retired electrician, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Ruth L. Pruett; two sons, Charles F. Pruett, Mechanicsville and Gerald Lee Pruett, Ashland, Va.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll Pruett, Merry Point, Va., Meredith Pruett, Vienna, Va. Remains rest at the Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment White Marsh United Methodist Church Cemetery, Kilmarnock, Va.

RAGSDALE
Mrs. Louise McLaughlin Ragsdale, 86, of Mechanicsville died April 14, 1999. Mrs. Ragsdale is the daughter of the late Willie Edgar McLaughlin and Edna Earl Bernard McLaughlin and the widow of Henry Wilson Rags dale. Survivors include a daughter, Judith R. Lamberth of Mechanicsville; sons, Kenneth L. Ragsdale and Jerry W. Ragsdale both of Mechanicsville; brothers, Robert H. McLaughlin of Mechanicsville and Bernard McLaughlin of Aylett; and five grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. The remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday April 16, 1999 and where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday April 17, 1999 with interment to follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Departed this life April 11, 1999, Mr. Lessie D. "Geechie" Ray, of Richmond. He is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Thelma and Duncan Mitchell, Mattie and Conwell Butcher; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Reposing at the Scott-Lightfoot Funeral Home, 3021 "N" St., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 5 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, 1 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 2420 Venable St. Rev. Bayard Taylor, Pastor, officiating. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

SANDY
Mrs. Ada Marie Combs Sandy, formerly of Richmond, age 74, of 3660 William R. King Rd, died April 16, 1999. Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 18, 3 p.m. at Hayes Chapel Christian Church Cemetery of Garner by Reverend Kelton Hinton. She is survived by her husband, Eugene B. Sandy; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dennis Crumpler of Garner; sons and daughters-in-law, Reverend Frank and Katherine Sandy of Newton Grove; Joe and Gayle Sandy of Mechanicsville, Va; 11 grandchildren, James, Laura, Leslie, Chris, Joanna, Ryan, David, Lowell, David, Shanda, and Joy; one sister Mrs. Rachel Lee of Tabor City. Following the service family will receive friends at the home of Carol and Dennie Crumpler, 925 Powell Drive in Garner, Saturday 7 to 9 p.m. Arrangements by West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove.

SAUNDERS
Robert S. Saunders Sr., age 55, of Amelia, died on April 15, 1999. Mr. Saunders worked for the Virginia Dept. of Agriculture Food Distribution Section for 30 years. He was Past President of the American Commodities Distribution Association and was organist at Belmont United Methodist Church in Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Nita; son, Robert S. Jr.; daughter and son-in law, Couri and Robert Fleet; his parents, Roy and Inez of all Amelia; brother and sister-in law, Dale and Nancy of of West Point; sister and brother in- law, Nancy and Willard Pierce of Blackstone. Graveside services Sat. (today) 3 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, Amelia, Va. Contributions may be made to either The American Cancer Society, Amelia Presbyterian Church or the American Diabetic Assoc. Arrangements by Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home.

SCHERER
Wallace Earl Scherer, 84, of Richmond, retired employee of IRS, died April 16, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred C. Scherer; two sons, Wallace E. Scherer Jr. and his wife, Ruby, of Frederick, Md., Richard L. Scherer and his wife, Mary Beth, of Richmond; four grandchildren, John, Scott, Roby and Ricky Scherer. Mr. Scherer was a member of River Road Church Baptist. He was a member of the Metropolitan Lodge No.11 AF and AM, Acca Temple Shrine, and Scottish Rite Bodies, a member of the Legion of Honor and the American Legion Post No.1776. He was a U.S Army veteran of World War II. The family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

SHUMATE
Robert E. "Bob" Shumate, departed this earth on April 16, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Will, as well as many devoted family and friends. Bob worked with the Virginia Department of Economic Development for 42 years, a lifetime member of the Hermitage High School Band Boosters and a devoted husband and father. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday. Interment 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Park Cemetery in Lawrenceville, Va. The services will be conducted by Rev. Robert Rodeffer, Mr. Shumate's cousin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bon Secours Hospice Program or your favorite charity.

WELCH
Ruth Shaw Welch, 69, Lexington, Ky., wife of the Rev. George O. Welch, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at her residence. A native of Vivian, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Lucian Wingfield and Vernie Esther Chaney Powell. A member of First Assembly of God, she was a loving wife and mother, and the former owner of Shaw's Answering Service, Physician's Exchange, and Nurse's Registry. She was a retired receptionist for First Assembly of God Church. Besides her husband, survivors include two sons, Charles H. Shaw Jr., Florence, and William David Shaw, Lexington; a daughter, Pattie Shaw Rutledge, Lexington; a stepdaughter, Grace Carlson-Lund, Evanston, Ill., five grandchildren, James William Rutledge, David Joseph Rutledge, William Colby Shaw, and Aaron and Aubrey Abbott; two brothers, the Rev. Floyd Powell, Gulf Shore, Ala., and James Powell, Marietta, Ohio; a sister, Marjorie Gillespie, Richmond, Va.; and a sister-in- law, Margaret Lewis, Vienna, Va. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles H. Shaw Sr. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Southland Christian Church Chapel by the Rev. Terry Sikes, the Rev. Steve Gehring, and the Rev. Brewster McLeod. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Gwin, Paul Mullins, Red Wilkerson, Ford Halcomb, Jim Latimer, Ted Brandewie, Kenneth Hurst, and Bob Clark. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky. Memorials are suggested to First Assembly of God Building Fund, 2760 Clays Mill Rd., Lexington, Ky. 40503.

WILMOUTH
Helen S. Wilmouth, 76 of Richmond, died Friday, April 16, 1999. She is the widow of Charles Wilmouth. She is survived by her son, and daughter-in- law, Mickey, and Debbie Wilmouth; her sister, Edna Burton; grandson, Chad Wilmouth; three stepdaughters; seven step-grandchildren, and many special relatives in Danville. Mrs. Wilmouth was a retiree of Nappa Auto Parts, with 20 years of service. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4, and 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, and where funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park.

WOLSTENHOLME
Edwin Vincent Wolstenholme Jr., 76, formerly of Richmond, passed away Thursday, April 15, 1999, at his home on Gwyns Island. He was the loving husband of Nancy Rogers Wolstenholme who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Cheryl Wolstenholme of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Edwin Vincent Wolstenholme III and Martha Tierney Wolstenholme of Midlothian; three grandsons, Edwin Vincent Wolstenholme IV, Robert Shirey Wolstenholme and Christopher Scott Wolstenholme; and five great-grandchildren. He served in the Navy during World War II, was chief engineer at Radio Station WRNL and director of technical services at Media General. The family will observe a private memorial service. Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.

ALEXANDER
Donald L. Alexander, age 64, of Midlothian, Va., died Wednesday, October 6, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Sandra W. Alexander; four children, Donald E. Alexander of New Hampshire, Christine A. Garcia of Texas, John A. Alexander of Connecticut and Jennifer L. Hardy of Minnesota; three stepchildren, Thomas W. Wright Jr., Charles B.T. Wright and Lindsey W. Piett, all of Richmond; four grandchildren, Christine Hardy, Robin Hardy, Ryan Alexander, Emily Garcia; his sister-in-law, Connie Alexander of New York; one niece, Kathleen; two nephews, Scott and Kevin. Mr. Alexander served in the US Marine Corps and was currently the general manager of Packaging Corp. of America, formerly Dixie Container Corp., Richmond plant. He attended St. Paul’s Episcopal School in New York and was a graduate of Dartmouth College. He was on the board and past president for the Virginia Voice for the Print Handicapped. His membership includes Phi Delta Theta, past president Richmond Dartmouth Club, Kiwanis Club, Willow Oak Country Club and the Bull and Bear Club. Remains rest Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Voice for the Print Handicapped, P.O. Box 15546, Richmond, Va. 23227 or to Dartmouth College Scholarship Fund, 6068 Blunt Ave., Hanover, N.H. 30755.
