Weldon Daniel (Jack) Adams, age 84, of Richmond, died March 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Carroll Adams; four children, Mrs. Shelby A. Waters, Mr. Clarence D. (Dan) Adams, Mr. Ronald R. Adams and Mrs. Susan A. McAllister, 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother, Mrs. Mildred A. Wilson and Mr. McCoy F. (Mac) Adams, both of Norlina, N.C. Mr. Adams retired from Overnite Transportation with 31 years service. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 5, 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Washington Memorial Park.

AGEE
Sadie Guill Agee, 82, of Dillwyn, died March 3, 2000. She was the widow of Luke N. Agee Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, Luke Nicholas Agee Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Alice Manchester of Howardsville; a son, John G. Agee of Powhatan; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Agee of Massachusetts; three sisters, Mabel Bowlewr of Lynchburg, Virginia Stone of Madison Heights and Barbara Jacobs of Richmond; a brother, Calvin Guill of Lynchburg; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held, Monday, 11 a.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment in Bethlehem Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Residence Fund of Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Dillwyn.

ALLEN
Erma Strang Allen died March 2 preceded in death by her husband, Robert Herman Allen. She is survived by her daughters; Faye Courtney Waters, husband Ronald M. Waters and Carlene Courtney Henley; grandsons, Ronald B. Waters, Michael W. Waters, Aubrey L. Henley Jr., wife Lori Henley, and granddaughter, Trina L. Waters; great-grandsons, Brandon Waters and Tyler Henley; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Waters; sister, Carrie Strang Carrington; three very special friends, Lucy Boone, Cecile Moore and Edie Johnson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, 12 to 7 p.m. at the Billups Funeral Home, 25th and Marshall Streets where funeral services will be held Monday, March 6 at 12 noon. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Leigh Street Baptist Church, 25th and Leigh Streets, or your choice of charity.

BELL
Herbert Smith Bell, formerly of Richmond, died March 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Fay Bell; son, Shane Bell; and sister, Frances Bufford. Remains rest at Cox Funeral Home in Norfolk, Va. where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be at Mill Swamp at 2 p.m.

BROWN
Jean Peterson Brown, 66, of Culpeper, Va., died Tuesday, March 2, 2000 in Madison, Va. She was born on April 4, 1933 in New Orleans, La. Ms. Brown was a former clerk at L.R. Water, and a member of Culpeper Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her father, Reverend Koy Peterson; her mother, Wilma Simmons Peterson; and her husband, John Henry Brown. Ms. Brown is survived by a son, Steven K. Brown of Rixeyville, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Katherine B. Inskeep of Culpeper, Va. and Mrs. Tamra B. Fant of Boyce, Va.; a brother, Byron D. Peterson "Buddy" of Richmond, Va.; and seven grandchildren. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2000, at the Culpeper National Cemetery, Dr. Ted Fuson officiating. Family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Clore-English Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Rapidan, P.O. Box 715, Culpeper, Va. 22701.

CHANDLER
Earl T. Chandler, 90, of Richmond, the widower of Fay M. Chandler, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2000. He is survived by his son, Joseph T. Chandler. Mr. Chandler was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church and had retired from Yellow Cab company and also worked for Dixie Supply and Equipment Company. Friends may call at the Laburnum Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave. on Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Washington Memorial Park.

CHRISTIANSEN
Died March 1, 2000, Girtie F. Christiansen, 78, of Ashland. She is survived by her husband, Albert "Chris" Christiansen Jr.; sister, Christine and her husband, Richard Stemshorn; and sister-in- law, Havena Hudson, all of Somerset, Ky.; sister-in-law, Virginia and her husband, Jimmie Main of Olar, S.C.; brother-in-law, Charles Henry and his wife, Betty Christiansen of Sandston; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in the Reid Funeral Home, 412 So. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where the family will receive friends following the service until 5 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Washington Memorial Park, Sandston. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 800 Thompson St., Ashland 23005, or the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 667, Ashland 23005. Mrs. Christiansen was an avid quilter, who exhibited many of her creations in the Virginia State Fair and she loved gardening.

CURRIN
Janet Maie Jackson Currin, 77, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2000. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Gooch Currin III; a brother, John C. Jackson; and a sister, Jettie Gay Fariss. She is survived by a daughter and her spouse, Christine Currin and Thomas F. Stephens of Charlottesville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Roc Currin of Richmond and Paul R. and Beverly Currin of Rome, Italy; a sister, Frieda Davis of Richmond; five grandchildren, Benjamin Currin, Jeremy Currin, Andrew Currin, Brad Stephens and Emily Stephens. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and where a service will be held 11 a.m. Monday with interment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 311 S. Boulevard, Richmond, Virginia 23220.

DABNEY
Anna Mae Dabney, 86, of 1424 Stokes Station Rd., Goochland, Va., formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the widow of the late, Bishop Richard Dabney, died Friday, March 3, 2000 at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital after a brief illness. Anna Mae leaves to cherish her memories, one son, John H. Riley of Goochland; one daughter-in-law, Lucy T. Riley; one son, Phil Dabney of Long Island, N.Y.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Goochland, Sunday, March 5, 2:30 p.m. Rev. Bruce Claiborne officiating. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Missionary and Women’s Auxiliary of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services and burial will also be held in New York later next week. DAVIS
Lois C. Davis, age 89, of Amelia, died on March 3, 2000. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood B. Davis Sr.; and is survived by her sons, Elwood B. Jr. of Chesterfield, Cecil H. of Amelia, Eugene C. of Midlothian; and her daughter, Lynda D. Lee of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Chuck, Shelby and Chris Davis, Jennifer and Michael Lee. Funeral services Sunday, 3 p.m., at the Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home, with burial in Union Baptist Cemetery. Visiting at the funeral home 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Contributions may be made to the Amelia Rescue Squad or Union Baptist Church.

ELLIOTT
Jean Roche Elliott, 63, of Richmond, passed away March 1, 2000 due to complications of surgery at MCV Hospitals. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Howard Roche and was preceded in de ath by her sister, Emma Howard Roche, stepdaughter, Robin Stucchi and niece, Katharine Beall. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Elliott; stepson, Robert (Tony) Elliott; stepgrandchildren, John Stucchi, Mary Stucchi, Whitney Elliott and Andy Elliott; sisters, Rebecca R. White and Nancy R. Beall; nieces, Rebecca B. DiSabato, Susan Terry, Jean McKeever and Rebecca White; great-nephews and great-niece, Brian Terry, Katie Terry, Alex Terry and Peter Terry. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home’s Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Interment 2 p.m. Monday at Glebe Landing Baptist Church cemetery, Laneview, Va. GUNN
Bernard (Rudy) Gunn, 69, of Richmond, died Friday, March 3, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Garrett Gunn; four daughters, Elaine Gunn, Kim Earle and her husband, Tommy Earle, Terry G. Chaney a nd her husband, Ronald B. Chaney Jr., Lisa G. Thomas and her husband, Michael S. Thomas; four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter and two adopted granddaughters, one niece and two nephews. Mr. Gunn was a retired employee of A. H. Robins, a volunteer fire fighter for Henrico County, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a scout leader with the Boy Scouts Troop #554. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 5 p.m. Sunday. Interment private.

HAWKINS
Helen Marie Hawkins, age 80, died February 29, 2000 in Richmond, Va. A native of Culpepper, Va., she was born December 31, 1919, the first born of the late Adolphus Wise "Jim" and Clara Idella Taylor Hawkins. She is survived by her brother, Adolphus W. Hawkins Jr. of Richmond; her sister, Dorothy Bridgman DeShazo of Fairfax; nieces, Sherene Brown Barringer of Richmond, Jill Hawkins Czajkowski of Charlotte, N.C., Deborah Brown Mills of Culpepper; nephews, Roderick Eaton Brown of Ladson, S.C., John Thomas Worsham Hawkins of Ruxton, Md., and David Telford Hawkins of Radnor, Penn. She was predeceased by her sister, Mrs. Andrew Wilson (Clara Margaret) Brown. A former teacher and librarian, she had been an active member of several civic, patriotic, and historical organizations. Her ashes will be placed in the Hawkins family cemetery, Eggbornsville Rd., Culpepper. There will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Culpepper Museum or the Rappahanock Historical Society.

JOHNSON
Rosetta Johnson of Richmond, formerly of New Kent, Va., departed this life Wednesday, March 1, 2000. She is survived by eight children, Elwood, Jeanette, Thomas, Shirley, Gloria, Marvin, Larry and Linda; nine grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ersulyn Jones and Mary Miller; two brothers, Willie and Linwood Pryor; three sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law, one brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from Lebanon Baptist Church, New Kent, Va., with Rev. William Goodwin officiating. Interment church cemetery.

LANDERS
George Henry Landers Jr., 79, of Brandermill, died March 1, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Betty Landers; a son, Christopher and his wife Sharrie; two daughters, Sandra Lopez and Karen Ludwig and her husband, Lewis; eight grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lee Landers of Florida; two brothers-in-law, Jim Hopkins and his wife Betty, and Max Hopkins and his wife Carolyn; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Landers was born in Richmond, Va., and graduated from Benedictine High School and the University of Richmond. Following 55 years in New Jersey they moved to Brandermill in 1988. He was a member of the Church of the Epiphany and the Brandermill Retired Men’s Club. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Epiphany. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Church of the Epiphany or the American Heart Association.

LYNE
Frances Wyatt Cottrell Lyne, 85, of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community died Friday, March 3, 2000 at the retirement community after a long illness. She was a native of Toano and James City County and long time resident of Rappahannock County. Mrs. Lyne was an elementary school teacher for 20 years and a masterful cook. She was a member of Mitchells Presbyterian Church in Mitchells and long time member of the Rappahannock County Garden Club. She also volunteered in fund raising projects with the American Cancer Society in Rappannock County. She is survived by her husband, William H. Lyne of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community; a daughter, Mary Peachey Lyne of Menlo Park, Calif.; a son, David Cottrell Lyne of Warrenton; a brother, Mahlon Cottrell of Toano; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nine nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Mitchells Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Grotz officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at church. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Mitchells Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 98, Mitchells, Va. 22729. MASSEY
Franklin Ashley Massey, 86, of King and Queen, died Friday, March 3, 2000. He was born August 12, 1913 in King and Queen County. Mr. Massey was a member of Beulah Wesleyan Church where he sang in the Men’s Quartet for many years. He served in the past as treasurer of the church. He was a charter member of the West Point Ruritan Club and resigned in 1997 due to ill health. He retired from Massey Oil Company in West Point, Va. in 1978 after working there for twenty four years. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Frances Hooper Massey; a son, Franklin Ashley Massey, Jr., and his wife Marjorie of Glen Allen, Va.; a daughter, Regina Massey Collins of Gainesville, Georgia; three sisters, Frances Ohlson of Lakewod, Colo., Ruth Jenkins of West Point, Va., and Marie Malcomb of Richmond; three brothers, Rev. Albert Massey of Staunton, Va., William Massey of Mattaponi, and Paul Massey of Providence Forge, Va.; one grandson, Ashley Carter Massey of Grand Lake, Colo.; four granddaughters, Frances Massey Henneberger of Glen Allen, Va., Michelle Collins Nooney of Gainesville, Ga., Jennifer Collins Lawrence of Suwanee, Ga., and Susan Collins Peterson of Duluth, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren, Trey Nooney, Carter Lawrence, Hannah Peterson, Andrew Lawrence, and Ashley Henneberger. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, in Beulah Wesleyan Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 tonight at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point. Memorials may be made to Beulah Wesleyan Church Building Fund, Rt. 2, Box 4031, Saluda, Va., 23149.

PANKEY
George R. Pankey, age 83, of Charles City, died March 2, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Janie F. Pankey; two stepdaughters, Susan C. Harper of Chesterfield and Sandra Anne Campbell of Richmond; an d two stepsons, Tommy Campbell of Toney, Ala., and Clark Campbell of Roseland, Va. Mr. Pankey was a past president of the Charles City Ruritan Club, a loyal member of the Providence Forge Rescue Squad for over 20 years, and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. He served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he patrolled the Chickahominy River. The family will receive friends 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 5 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held graveside Monday, March 6, 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence Forge Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Jeannette M. Royster, of Mechanicsville, died Friday March 3, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Royster; a daughter, Jessica Jeannette Royster; a sister, Bobbie Sorensen; her father, Clifton Cook, two aunts, Lilly Horton and Marie Hendricks; an uncle, Marion (Bros) Cook; all of Beaufort, S.C.; two nieces, Michelle Morgan and Kelly Seymore. Mrs. Royster was past president of the Battlefield Park Elementary School P.T.A. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road where the family will receive friends, 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Rennie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Amelia with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Battlefield Park Elementary School P.T.A. Scholarship Fund.

SEARLES
George W. Searles, 82, of Glen Allen, died March 2, 2000. He was a retired self- employed roofing contractor and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Mae Butler Searles. Survivors include his son, David George Searles; three daughters, Shirley S. Lee, Beverly S. Martin, Patricia S. Jones; one brother, John Wilbur Searles; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. The remains rest at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Rd., Glen Allen where the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and where services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Woodland Cemetery, Ashland, Va.
