Lillian Long Petway left this earth on April 18, 2001. She is survived by her son, Noel Wayne Gravitt; her daughter-in-law, Janice D. Gravitt; her grandson, Elliott N. Gravitt; her stepgrandson, Christopher C. Crosby; sisters-in-law, Eunice Long, Betsy Gravitt and Marion Long; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 9801 Fort King Road, Richmond, Va. on Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Halifax County, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.

RAMSEY
Isaiah Rudolph Ramsey, 81, of Prince George, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Isaiah and Carrie Grant Ramsey. Mr. Ramsey was a retired Teletype specialist for C&P Telephone Company and served his country with the Army Air Corps 8th Division as a staff sergeant during World War II. He was a lifetime charter member of the McKenney Hunt Club and a Boy Scout master with the McKenney Boy Scouts. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Margaret Ramsey. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Eugenia Tucker Ramsey; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas Scott and Cindy Ramsey of Sutherland, Donald Grant and Carol Ramsey of Gloucester, William Thomas Ramsey Sr. of Richmond, and Rudolph Wayne and Donna Ramsey of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter and son-in-law, Eugenia Ramsey Elder and Richard T. Jr. of Prince George; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; Rusty, a devoted companion; a brother, Floyd Mitchell of Connecticut; a brother-in-law, Jessie W. Buckner of Norfolk; and a special devoted caregiver, Agnes. Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834. Arrangements by E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights.

RODDA
Helen Rodda, age 86, passed away on April 18, 2001. Survived by two daughters, Dr. Mary Suzanne Hasenstab of Richmond and Patricia Smink of Virginia Beach; two sisters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rodda worked for G.E. for 25 years in the Cleveland, Ohio area as a nurse and retired in 1974. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday in Sharon, Pennsylvania at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Nine brothers and sisters; and a granddaughter preceded Helen in death. SOGHOIAN
Mr. Yervant Edward Soghoian, 71, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Zadoor and Grace Soghoian and is survived by two brothers, Marshall and Richard Soghoian; two sisters, Rose and Florence Soghoian; and his friend, Charles Hudson. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Appomattox Cemetery, Hopewell, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. James Armenian Church, 834 Pepper Ave., Richmond, 23226.

SPENCER
Mrs. Mary H. Spencer of Gawain Dr. departed this life April 16, 2001. She is survived by her daughters, Lillie Trent and Jeannette Spencer; sons, Clarence L. Jr., Calvin J. and Nathaniel Spencer; stepdaughter, Lucille Matthews; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; son-in-law, James Trent; daughter-in-law, Sandra Spencer; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where her family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. After 10 a.m. Saturday, her remains will rest at St. Paul Baptist Church, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Rev. Lance D. Watson officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery.

TAYLOR
Alice Barnes Taylor, 85, widow of Stuart A. Taylor, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Lakewood Manor. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Smith and is survived by a daughter, Nancy Taylor Smith of Long Beach, Miss.; a son, John W. Taylor of Fairfax, Calif.; six grandchildren, Clairborne Brown, Rebecca Van Cotte, Laura Bassett, Jason Taylor, Cassidy Taylor, Stuart Taylor; and seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, John V. Barnes of Richmond. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Westminister Presbyterian Church, 4103 Monument Ave. Interment will be scheduled at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

TAYLOR
Benjamin Henry Magruder Taylor, 31, of Sandpoint, Idaho, formerly of Richmond, died April 17, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Emily Jane Chennell Taylor; daughter, Olivia Jane Magruder Taylor; parents, David H. and Carol E. Taylor; and grandmother, Mrs. Charles M. Eckman of Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at their home, 8718 Higginbotham Place. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with interment to follow in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

TAYLOR
Govan Mitchell Taylor Sr., 96, of Richmond, died at his home on April 18, 2001. He served as a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, Govan Wade and Anna Christian Taylor; siblings, A. Christian, Roy E., Joseph R. and Nellie G. Taylor; and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lillie Mae Hurt Taylor; son, Govan M. Taylor Jr. and his wife, Eva of Largo, Fla.; daughters, Janice T. Maher and husband, Pat of Mesa, Ariz., and Brenda T. Fleming and husband, Rudy of Lanexa, Va.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Annie O. Taylor of Richmond, Va. He was a retired automobile mechanic and, until failing health a couple of years ago, gave his time helping church members and friends maintain their vehicles. The family will receive friends at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Meadowbrook Ward Chapel on Cogbill Rd. with interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bensley-Bermuda Rescue Squad.

TAYLOR
Jacqueline Danner Taylor, 70, of Charles City, Va., died Wednesday, April 18, 2001. She was a member of Westover Parish Church in Charles City and served as a paralegal for her late husband, D.R. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Donald R. Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Candice Greil Hershey and her husband, James; one sister, Joelle Montez; two grandchildren, Tamara Starkey and her husband, Jacob, and April Hershey; one great-grandchild, Brittany Starkey; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Westover Parish Church, 6401 John Tyler Memorial Highway, Charles City, Va., 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21. Nelsen Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

THOMAS
Viola Coleman Thomas, 93, retired educator, widow of Archie L. Thomas, formerly of Dawn, Va., died on Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Greensboro, N.C. She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Whitney of Greensboro, Marian Taylor of Dawn; three grandchildren, Patricia Adams, Sheryl Morse and Wimberly Taylor; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey Adams, Theo and Elliotte Roberts; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21, 2001, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Second Mount Zion Baptist Church, Dawn, where funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2001, at 12 noon. The Rev. Marvin M. Fields officiating. Interment Thomas Family Cemetery, Dawn, Va. Please omit food. Arrangements by Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal, Va.

TUCKER
Funeral services for Deacon Willie H. Tucker of 8418 Holdsworth Rd., Disputanta, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m. at Loving Union Baptist Church, Disputanta. Rev. Joseph Morrison, pastor, will officiate. Rev. Antonio A. Tucker will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are asked to assemble at Tucker's Funeral Home at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. Services under the direction of Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg.

UPSHAW
William Mitchell "Jack" Upshaw, 78, of King William, Va., died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Top Hill Farm. He had been a farmer for fifty years. Mr. Upshaw was a member of Colosse Baptist Church and an Army World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-nine years, Mary Gary Edwards Upshaw. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy U. Bew and her husband, Ronnie of Hanover, Va.; three sons and their wives, William Mitchell Upshaw Jr. and Willa Dean of Salem, Va., Everett Pickett Upshaw and Joni of King William and Kenneth Garnett Upshaw and Susan of Hanover; six grandchildren, Allison Bew, Gary Upshaw and his wife, Susan, Willie Upshaw and his wife, Katherine, Jeff Bew, Cameron Upshaw and W. Peyton Upshaw; and one great-grandson, Carter Upshaw. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Colosse Baptist Church, King William, Va., with burial in church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point, Va.

VAUGHAN
Julian W. Vaughan Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2001. He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Marie Anderson of Richmond; three sons, Richard Michael Vaughan of Colonial Heights, Luther Allen Vaughan and Roger Edward Vaughan of Monessen, Pa.; one sister, Betty Lou Hale of Richmond; one brother, Wilton Lee Vaughan of Colonial Heights; two sisters-in-law, Agnes Vaughan and Yvonne Lancaster; one daughter-in-law, Annie Vaughan; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in WWII and a member of International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 666 for 54 years. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Vaughan Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

WALKER
Departed this life April 17, 2001, Mrs. Hazel W. Walker of 108 W. 30th St. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse J. Walker Jr.; and daughter, Robyn Walker. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Charlene W. Harris, Beverly W. Reed and Courtney P. Walker; two sons, Jesse J. III and Ronnie J. Walker; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Kizziah Walker, Pattie Thomas, Alice Walker, Nannie Walker and Grace Hayes; one aunt, Harriet Walker; host of nieces, nephews and cousins; one daughter-in-law, Evonne Walker; two sons-in-law, Nelson Harris and Jacob Reed; five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and other relatives and friends. WILLIS
Lucille Betty Willis passed Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Voorhees, N.J. Born Lucille Betty Dowden, on November 4, 1910, in Manchester, Va., she was the last surviving of nine children born to Thomas W. and Elizabeth Dowden. Lucille was also the last original Dowden family member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She is survived by her youngest son, Timothy E. Willis of New Jersey; daughter in-law, Patricia Yvonne Willis; sister in-law, Florence Dowden; grandchildren, Renee' Y. Willis, Robert V. Evans Jr., Shawn Terrell Evans; four great-grandchildren, all of Richmond, Va., and a host of devoted relatives and friends. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Virginia Chapter, 10201 Lee Highway, Suite 210, Fairfax, Va. 22030

ANDERSON
Adam Aaron "Andy" Anderson, 74, a resident of Williamsburg for 39 years, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001. A native of Chattanooga, Tenn. and the youngest of nine children. He served in the U.S. Navy retiring after 20 years as Chief Petty Officer. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a Special Weapons Inspector for the Naval Weapons Station for 24 years. Mr. Anderson was a York County Magistrate for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joanne Walker Anderson. He is survived by five children, Pamela A. Cobb and husband, John of Montpelier, Va., Cynthia A. Kirkland and husband, James of Ft. Riley, Kan., Kimberly A. Anderson of Roanoke, Va., Dr. David W. Anderson and wife, Pamela of Athens, Ga., and Kerri A. Purohit and husband, Ravi of San Jose, Calif.; three sisters, Vieva McCommon of Hixson, Tenn., Ethel Page of Chattanooga, Tenn., Lucille Silverio of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kerri Leigh Cobb, Kristi Joanne Kirland, Ty Driesell Anderson, and Walker Grice Driesell Anderson; a host of nieces and nephews, and a special grand-dog, Princeton. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 30, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Milton Hines, Rev. Bryan Vandanna, and Rev. Pamela Driesell Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Williamsburg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
