Irma Corrine Hushebeck

Age 81 of Fairfield Glade, TN, on December 8, 2008.

She was a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church participating in the church choir, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, and an avid bowler. She worked as a secretary for 44 years at Dupont Co. retiring in 1991.

Preceded in death by parents, William Alfred and Elizabeth W. Nowland Hushebeck. Survived by sister, Grace H. Hall of Fairfield Glade, TN; nieces, Kathy (Richard) Humbert of Nolensville, TN; Shirley (Phil) Jones of Roswell, GA; Nancy (Don) Adkins of Knoxville, TN; Debby (John) Gardner of Ooltewah, TN; and 10 grandnieces and nephews.

Memorial service to be conducted at 2 pm, Sunday, December 14, at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, Fairfield Glade, TN with Rev. Lanita Price and Rev. Will Wells officiating. Interment will be in Grace Lawn Memorial, New Castle, DE.

Dorothy R. Lattanzio

Dorothy R. Lattanzio, age 73, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.

Dolly was born in Wilmington on august 11, 1935 to the late Joseph and Rose Wyszynski. Dolly was a wonderful mother, grand-mother, great-grand-mother, sister and friend to many. She worked at Delaware Charter Guarantee and trust for over 25 years where she was the supervisor of the statement dept. She was a very loving and giving person, always putting the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed going out to eat, playing games, shopping, late night waltzes with her sister Rene but most of all having family and friends gather at her home for huge crab feasts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Lattanzio, Sr., her sister, Phyllis Hemphill, and her brother, Stanley Wyszynski. She is survived by her son, Samuel A. Lattanzio, Jr. and his wife Karen; her daughters, Linda "Missy" Harrison and her husband, Charles "Bub" and Gina Levine and her companion, Danny Whiteman; grandchildren, Billy, Samantha, Charles "BJ" Jessica, and Jaden, her great-grand-children, Billy, Aren and Brady. She is also survived by her sisters, Irene Carmine, Jean Domanski, and Geraldine Jeffery; and her brothers, Joseph and Walter Wyszynski.

The family would like to thank everyone for their support and a special thank you to her sister, Rene who lived with her and sister-in-law Louise Wyszynski who was a sister-in-law by marriage but sister by heart. We would also like to mention that she kept her promise and never cooked.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, December 15, 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. Dupont St., Wilmington. Calling hours will be Sunday, afternoon December 14 between 3-5 pm at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Rds. Entombment will be at Cathedral cemetery.

Janet R. Petrashune

Age 76, of Dagsboro, DE, formerly of Ivyland, PA, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Delaware Hospice center, Milford, DE.

Memorial Service, 3pm Sunday, December 14, 2008 at St. Matthew's By-The-Sea United Methodist Church, Fenwick Island, DE.

Colonel Ralph A. Piazza

Colonel Ralph A. Piazza, age 81, of Milton, DE, passed away December 8, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE.

He was born July 28, 1927 in Cranston Heights, DE to the late Anthony and Margaret (DeRose) Piazza. Colonel Piazza Lived in the Lewes area for 22 years, previously living in New Castle, DE. Ralph served in the US Navy from 1945 to 1948 and then in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1952. Ralph was the best maintenance officer that was ever at D.A.N.G. (DE Air National Guard). Colonel Ralph A. Piazza Joined the Delaware Air National Guard on 24 April, 1948 and began his career as a crew chief assigned to the 166th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, where he was commissioned as a Captain on 5 August 1958 and accepted the position of Maintenance Officer. One of his biggest challenges was the conversion from fighter aircraft to the C-97 in 1961. His dynamic leadership provided the highest quality maintenance and ensured the availability of aircraft to support the increased burden created by the Vietnam War.

In 1968 Colonel Piazza was assigned the responsibility of task force commander, as the Delaware Air Guard was called to state active duty. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Piazza in the dedication of his service to his country and state reflect great credit upon himself and the DE Air National Guard.

Colonel Piazza is survived by his wife of 39 years, Catherine R. (Young) Piazza; five sons: Ralph E. Piazza and his wife Linda L. of Wilmington, DE, Paul Piazza and his wife Martha of Elkton, MD, Dennis J. Dorris and his wife Donna of Newark, DE, Michael J. Dorris and his wife Denise of Warwick, MD, and Allen Piazza and his wife Terri of Newark, DE; daughter, Connie L. Euston and her husband Paul of Newark, DE; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers: Armond Piazza of South Carolina, Raymond Piazza of Florida, and Ernest Piazza of Florida; and 3 sisters: Rosemary Piazza of Dover, DE, Evelyn Casalena of Greenville, DE, and Patricia Gilliand of Chadds Ford, PA.

A Graveside service will be Monday, December 15, 2008 at 2pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 100 W. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Janet M. Reedy

Janet M. Reedy, 71, of Newark, DE, passed away December 11, 2008 at Manor Care Pike Creek after a brief illness.

Mrs. Reedy was born in Newark on March 11, 1937, the daughter of the late William H. and Mildred Clemens Allen. She was a crossing guard for New Castle County Public Schools for 21 years. Janet was a long time member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Curtis E. Reedy of Newark; 2 sons, Curt Reedy Jr. and Michele Stepchuck of Elkton and. and Glenn Reedy of Newark; a brother, Richard L. Allen and 2 aunts, Betty and Helen Clemens, all of Newark. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Bruce and Mark Reedy as well as her sister, Judy Darling and brother, William Allen, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday December 15, 2008 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE. Friends and family may call at the church beginning at 10 am. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Edward J. Saraga

Edward J. Saraga, 77, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on December 10, 2008. He was the husband of 45 years of Angelina Melori Saraga.

Born in Linwood, PA, he was the son of the late Vince and Mary Quito Saraga. He was a 1949 graduate of Eddystone High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Saraga Builders; member of Cavaliers and Kings Creek Country Clubs; active with DelVets and enjoyed playing golf.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Saraga is survived by his daughters, Tish Farrell and Deborah Morrison and her husband John; loving grandchildren, Angela and Michael Farrell and brother, Les Saraga and his wife Pat.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at 10 am on Monday, December 15, 2008 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Rd. at Concord Pike, Wilmington DE 19803. Calling hours will be from 6-8 pm on Sunday, December 14 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont DE 19703. Interment will be at Cathedral cemetery.

Walter Schurga

Walter Schurga, age 85, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 after an extended illness.

Mr. Schurga was born in Korchiv, Ukraine to the late Paul and Agnes Schurga. He survived the Great Famine in the Ukraine during the 1930's, and as a youth was taken as forced labor to Germany during WW II. After the war, he worked with the U.S. Army in a displaced persons camp in Ludwigsburg, Germany where he met and married his wife, Katherine Jacyna, also from the Ukraine. They emigrated to the United States in 1948 to Jeannette, PA where he worked as a welder in a foundry. He then moved to Wilmington, DE in 1950 where he was employed by The DuPont Co. for 33 years at their Newport Plant. Because of his strong work ethic, he also was self-employed as a house painter in his free time. Mr. Schurga was a proud and prominent member of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church-both at the former S. Heald Street location and the present church on Lea Boulevard. He donated many hours to the painting, decorating and enrichment of his church. He had many interests, including travel, singing and dancing, a strong appreciation of flowers and birds, his many friends and associates and most of all-his beloved family!

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine of Wilmington, DE; son, Walter, Jr. and wife, Lynne of Newark, DE; daughter, Rose Marie Waters and husband, Michael of Concord, NC; and son, Roman John and wife Carla of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Roman, Nicole, and Audra Schurga of Wilmington, DE; grandsons, Cory Waters and wife Carla of Lopatcong, NJ; Kevin Waters of Flemington, NJ; granddaughter, Hayley Waters of Flemington, NJ; and great grandsons, Nathan Schurga of Wilmington, DE and Trevor Waters of Lopatcong, NJ. Mr. Schurga was predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister in the Ukraine, and has several surviving family members there.

The family wishes to thank Christiana Care and Delaware Hospice for their compassionate and skillful care.

Visitation will be held at 9am on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 801 Lea Boulevard, Wilmington, DE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am with interment to follow at All Saints cemetery.

George C. Shelton

George C. Shelton, 67, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at Heartland Hospice on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 after a long illness.

Mr. Shelton was a retired chemical technician who last worked for Re-Pap Company. George liked to golf, fish and crab and cheer for his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was predeceased by his parents, his father, Harry Lee Shelton and mother, Lillian Mae Ferris. George is survived by his 2 children, Amy Shelton of Mays Landing, NJ and David Shelton of Leesburg, Florida; his granddaughter, Katherine Beck; his brothers, James Shelton and Richard Shelton; his longtime friend, Hope Conig; and by his dear cat, Andrea.

A celebration of George's life will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by McCRERY FUNERAL HOME.

George Sipple

George Sipple of Magnolia, DE died Wednesday December 10, 2008 in Milford Hospice Center. He was 84. Memorial services will be held in the spring. Arrangement by TORBERT FUNERAL CHAPELS, Dover.

Francis Barretto Stewart, Jr.

Francis Barretto Stewart, Jr., age 48, of Laurel, DE passed away on December 8, 2008 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Washington, DC a son of the late Francis B. Stewart, Sr. and Susan Smith Stewart Friend. Mr. Stewart was the owner/operator of Barretto Financial Services in Laurel. He was a man of many talents and will be fondly remembered by his family as a loving uncle and brother.

He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Wilson Stewart and Marvin Offutt of Bowie, MD; a step brother, Thomas Friend and his wife Christina of North Carolina; and a step sister, Patricia Alice Douglass and her husband Jamie of Port Chester, NY; a brother in law, Dr. John Dykstra of Seaford; his step father, A. Thomas Friend of Florida. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Edmund and Carolina Stewart of Cambridge, MD and Patrick and Elizabeth Smith of New York City, NY; his nieces and nephews, Matthew Jonathan Dykstra, Nicholas Edward Dykstra, Sophia Anne Beth Dykstra, Sarah Grace Douglass and Parker Elizabeth Douglass. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Sarah S. Dykstra who passed in 2006.

A Memorial Service will be held at the HANNIGAN, SHORT, DISHAROON FUNERAL HOME, 700 West St. Laurel, DE 19956 on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 3:30 pm. The Pastor Thomas Gross will officiate. Internment will be held privately.

Contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center 100 Patriots Way Milford, DE 19963.

Darlene V. Streater

Of Wilmington, DE age 67, departed this life suddenly December 1, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was the mother of the late Brian Streater. She is survived by a son, Keith Streater of Wilmington, DE; 2 brothers, Arnold and George Pierce and 1 sister, Kat-Kat and a host of family and friends.

The service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11 am, Mother U.A.M.E. Church, 701 E. 5th Street, Wilmington, DE. Viewing, 9-11 am. Interment, private.
