U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014
Edmond Douglas Sale, 50, passed away August 30, 2005 at Heritage Hall in King George, after a short battle with Lou Gehrigs disease. He was born on September 1, 1954.
Survivors include his mother, Era Gay Sale, his sister and brother-in-law, Joseph and Suzanne Sale Stepp and his niece, Shannon Wingate Stepp all of Rappahannock Academy. Ed also leaves his dear friend and companion, Frances Seale. He was preceded in death by his father, Edmond Walker Sale.
Ed was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. His uncle, Tyler C. Bruce, taught him and took him hunting for many years with the Moss Neck Hunt Club. He loved the farm, Racefield Farm, that he grew up on and was happiest when he was there.
Funeral arrangements are private. Memorial contributions may be made to Bowling Green Baptist Church Building Fund, Box 543, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

L. Wayne Pitts, 55, of Ruther Glen died Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at his home.
Wayne was a member, deacon and Sunday school superintendent at Concord Baptist Church in Ruther Glen. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had worked 31 years for Lydall, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Pitts; a daughter, Stacy Callahan and her husband, Eric; five brothers, George William, Clyde, "C.J.", William and Joe Pitts; two sisters, Doris Stanley and Nita Shook; and one granddaughter, Paris Kate Callahan. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Katy Pitts.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 27, at Concord Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.R. Dockum officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 26, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 3914 Smokey Road, Aylett, Virginia 23009.

Wingfield L. "Peter" Turner, 75, of Frog Level, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Memorial Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy A. Turner; his daughter, Sharon K. Turner of Frog Level and her friend, Robert Cocke of Beaverdam; grand kitties, Boots and Molly.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 24 at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Concord Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday, 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

Virginia Blanche Rowland, 77, of Ladysmith, formerly of Woodbridge, died Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Born in Caroline, she had worked for 13 years in the Prince William County School System and was a member of County Line Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, William F. "Bill" Rowland; seven children, Shirley A. Rowland of Fredericksburg, Carole Jean Coleman of Manassas, Norma Gail Legg of Spotsylvania, Connie C. Fisher of Caroline, Judy Gracie Hernandez of Newport News, Tammy S. Rowland- Gallahan of Ladysmith and James McCoy Pickrel of Woodbridge; four sisters, Betty Anderson and Dorothy Wax both of Spotsylvania and Ruth Blake and Mary Shelton both of Caroline; a brother, Lewis Martin of Caroline; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 20 at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Dr. Fred Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday 7:00-9:00 PM.

Terry Marie Cecil, 48, of Penola, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Baltimore, she had been the administrator at Arbor Christian Home, in Ruther Glen for 16 years.
Survivors include her husband, James Cecil; two daughters, Tammy M. Cecil and Crystal C. Harper, both of Penola; a sister, Margaret C. Wissinger of Partlow; two brothers, Frank Clark of Delaware and Patrick Clark of Pennsylvania and two grandsons, David, Jr. and James Harper of Penola.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 17 at 11:00 AM in Greenlawn cemetery, Bowling Green. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Tuesday 7:00 - 9:00 PM.

Kenneth Clark, 69, of Port Royal passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2005, after a long illness.
Kenneth worked at Ft. A.P. Hill for approximately 12 years as a water treatment specialist and was well known in Caroline County, where he had lived for almost 20 years.
He is survived by his brother, Arthur Clark, Sr. and his wife, Joyce Clark; his brother, Lawrence Clark and his wife, Sandra Clark; his sister, Helen Patterson; several nieces and nephews; and his great-nephew, Brandon Clark.
Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, is handling the arrangements.

Donald A. Yackel, 53, of Spotsyvlania County died Saturday, August 13, 2005 at his home.
Born in Minnesota, he was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Ladysmith and was a Head Start teacher at Ladysmith Primary School.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila B. Yackel; two daughters, Mysty and Heather Yackel, both of the home; his brothers, Steven Yackel of Ruther Glen, Paul Yackel of Warsaw and Scott Yackel of Salisbury, Maryland; his sister, Patricia Ptucha of Montross; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Yackel, and his brother, James R. Yackel.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Ladysmith. The family will receive friends in the church hall following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to a fund established to benefit his daughters, c/o Union Bank and Trust, Ladysmith, Virginia 22501.

Gay Brooks Bruce On Thursday, August 11, 2005, the Good Lord called his faithful servant, Gay Bruce, home to her heavenly reward. She had blessed her family and friends with 108 years and 4 months of endless love, laughter, and then some more love.
Gay was born April 7, 1897, in Essex County to Alexander O. and Emma Crowe Brooks. Gay was one of 12 children. She was the last surviving sibling. In 1916, Gay married Percy Cecil Bruce and together they made their home in Caroline. They were blessed with three children: Tyler Cecil, who predeceased her, Clifton Faulkner Bruce of Richmond and Era Gay Bruce Sale of Rappahannock Academy. Gay Bruce was the loving matriarch of a family of eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by four grandchildren, James Tyler "Jimmy" Bruce, Frances Griffin Bruce, Janet Gay Sale and Bruce Walker Sale. Her surviving grandchildren are Jean Wesley Bruce of Richmond, Elizabeth Gay Bruce Negus of Signal Mountain, TN., Clifton Faulkner Bruce, Jr. of Richmond, Edmond Douglas Sale of King George and Era Suzanne Sale Stepp of Rappahannock Academy.
Great-grandchildren are Anne Morgan Bruce and Abby Thomas Bruce of Richmond, Bruce Anderson Negus of Charlotte, N.C., Frances Ashby Negus of Dallas, Louise Griffin Negus of Signal Mountain, TN., Devynne Mazwell Bruce, Clifton Faulkner Bruce, III, David Hornsby Bruce and Molly Griffin Bruce, all of Richmond, and Shannon Wingate Stepp of Rappahannock Academy.
Gay Bruce was known and loved by many as "Granny Gay", "Grandma", "Sis Gay" and "Aunt Gay". In her life, she quietly reached out and touched many lives with the delicious food that she shared with all, along with a ready laugh with a good dose of common sense. Up until she was 103, she resided independently but was never at a loss for friends who shared in her joy of life, cooking and just talking. At 103, she moved in with her daughter, Era Gay Sale; and enjoyed the companionship of family and the daily working of the farm. A faithful friend, Mary S. Skinker, brightened each and every day with visits and reflections on times past.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 14, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with the Rev. Jim Vaught officiating. Burial of the ashes will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. A reception will be held at Bowling Green Baptist Church immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowling Green Baptist Church Building Fund, Box 543, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

John T. Logan, 79, of Woodford, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Bowling Green Health Care Center. Mr. Logan was a member of Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Beryl A. Logan; two sons, John C. and his wife, Anne, and James P. Logan, all of Woodford; a brother, William David Logan of Pennsylvania; and a granddaughter, Julia Ann Logan.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2005 at Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Wright's Chapel, UMC, P.O. Box 193, Ladysmith, Virginia 22501.

Gernie M. Smith, 77, of Milford died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at his home. He had been an employee of W.C. Spratt for over 30 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane Smith Turner of Powhatan; four sisters, Ruby M. Hodges of Mount Airy, N.C., Shelva Jane Wall of Matoaca, Lorraine Busic of Port Haywood and Eunice Seay of Petersburg; a brother, Garland Smith of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Jackie Powell and his fiancee, Dorothy Kearns.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery, Bowling Green.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 at the funeral home.

Carolyn W. Taylor, 47, of Hanover, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at her home.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Taylor, Sr.; four children, Christy Johson of Chesapeake, Richard "Bill" Webb of Nottoway, Jennifer Taylor of Caroline and John D. Taylor, Jr. of Caroline; two sisters, Linda Tapscott of Kilmarnock and Brenda Webb of North Carolina; two brothers, Booker Webb of Northumberland and Bobby Webb of Maryland; and four grandchildren, Christofer Lee, Caroline Taylor, Autumn Hocker and Justyn Taylor.
The family will receive friends 7p.m.- 9 p.m. Thursday at Storke Funeral Home, July 21 and a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Jack A. Dahlinger, 75, of Ruther Glen died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Dahlinger was an outstanding music teacher at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, had been an elder and choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Annadale and was a member and choir director at Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Beaverdam. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was the loving husband and best friend of Rae W. Dahlinger for 50 years. He was a devoted father of five children, Nanci Sale and her husband, Stephen, of Alexandria, Mark Dahlinger and his wife, Barbara of New Jersey, Jeffrey Dahlinger and his wife, Ingrid, of Germany, Thomas Dahlinger of Leesburg and Stuart Dahlinger of Centreville. Other survivors include a brother, Wayne Dahlinger of Texas; and 11 grandchildren, Jeffery, Kerry and Allison Sale, Cristina and Courtney Dahlinger, Rebecca and Christopher Dahlinger, and Samuel, David, Simon and Eileen Dahlinger. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Dahlinger, and two granddaughters, Danielle and Bethany Dahlinger.
A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, July 16, in National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, with the Rev. Bob Lewandowski officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Rehoboth UMC, 18580 Partlow Road, Beaverdam, Virginia 23015 or to American Parkinson's Disease Association, Richmond Metro Chapter, Box 70283, Richmond, Virginia 23255-0283.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jack Dahlinger will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2005 at Rehoboth United Methodist Church.

John E. "Jack" Gregg, 49, of Ruther Glen, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at his home. Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, he had served six years active duty in the Air Force and was a member of Benchmark Baptist Church in Spotsylvania.
Survivors include his daughter, Autumn Gregg of Woodford; step daughters, Valerie Biggs of Woodford and Amie Biggs of Spotsylvania; his mother, Sallie Gregg of Phoenix and his sister, Sara Gregg of Seatlle, Washington.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 12 at 4:00 PM at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Maxine E. Crismond, 80, of Bowling Green, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Crismond was a homemaker and the widow of James E. Crismond, Sr.
Survivors include two sons, James E. "Doc" Crismond, Jr. and Timothy Crismond, both of Bowling Green; a daughter, Kim Conner of Woodbridge; two sisters, Irene Hailey of Sandston and Frances Rafferty of Chesterfield; two brothers, Burl Elliott of Indiana and Wallace Elliott of Sandston; three grandchildren, Chris Crismond, Jill Henley and Laura Grace Conner; and three great grandchildren, Travis and Sarah Henley and Jimmie Crismond.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 10, in Greenlawn cemetery, Bowling Green, with the Rev. David Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
