HURST
Brian James Hurst, 52, departed this life on Thursday, April 26, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Eubank Hurst; his son, Christopher Benjamin Hurst; and daughter, Katie Hollins Hurst. He is also survived by his mother, Colleen Kimsey of Miami, Fla.; his father, James G. Hurst of Nashville, Tenn.; and his sister, Patricia Barrett of Iraann, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Hurst Keffler. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Jean Hollins Eubank; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Beth and Dana Costin; and two nieces, Elizabeth Jean and Jeannie Dana Costin. He also leaves behind a host of loving friends. Brian was a devoted husband, father, coach, an independent automobile dealer, an avid golfer and a former owner and breeder of thoroughbred horses. He was a member of the Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers' Association, the coach of Collegiate School's Varsity Golf Team, a member of the Dominion Club and a member of River Road Church, Baptist. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Collegiate School or River Road Church, Baptist. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 29, at 3 p.m. with a reception following at the church.

JOHNSON
Mamie B. Johnson of Charles City graduated to her Father's house on April 25, 2001 at Hopewell Convalescent Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman T. Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Ludenia Johnson, Elois Green (Ernest), Martha Allen and Frederica Broaddus; one son, Alden Johnson (Lolita); 10 grandchildren, two devoted, Roxanne Cotman and Alfreda Ogletree; one devoted grandson-in-law, Terry Cotman; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Seldon and Glenora Brown; two brothers, Albert and Waverly Johnson; one devoted niece, Dorothea Bateman; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Remains rest at J. Leroy Charity Funeral Home, Charles City. Funeral service 1 p.m. Monday at Jerusalem Baptist Full Gospel Church. Elder Sandra Derr officiating. There will be no viewing in church. Interment church cemetery. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Jerusalem Renovation Fund.

MONTGOMERY
Natalie S. Montgomery, age 42 of Richmond, died Friday, April 27, 2001. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard S. Montgomery and is survived by many cousins. Natalie was an avid bowler and she will be missed by her many bowling league friends. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Washington Memorial Park.

ONLEY
Antoine C. Onley, 51, formerly of Richmond, died April 26, 2001 in Manhattan. N.Y. Member of the musical group 'The Drifters'. Services in New York to be announced later. Local family contact at 648-7480.

RACKLEY
Mrs. Flora B. Rackley, 91, departed this life on April 27, 2001. She was the widow of Wade H. Rackley and is survived by one brother, George H. Harris of Hopewell, Va. Mrs. Rackley was born August 9, 1909 in Henderson, N.C. She lived most of her life in Hopewell, Va., where she was a member of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Hopewell Chapter of the Rebecca Lodge. She was the mother of eight children, Wade Jr., (deceased), Frances (deceased) and Walter (deceased) and five surviving children, David J. Rackley, Alma R. Congdon, Richard H. Rackley, Yvonne R. Laliberte and Roy A. Rackley. In 1996, Mrs. Rackley moved to Richmond to be near her children, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends at J. T. Morriss Funeral Home, 820 W. Broadway, Hopewell, Va. on Sunday, April 29 from 2 until 3:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Monday, April 30 at 3 p.m. with interment held at Appomattox Cemetery afterwards. Mrs. Rackley's greatest loves were her church and children.

THOMAS

WELCH
Laura Eliza Cotton Welch of Richmond, a retired architect, died peacefully at home on April 25, 2001 after a long illness. She was born in Plattsmouth, Neb. on November 6, 1917. She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, James W. Welch; her son, Dale E. Welch of Richmond; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, W. William Welch and Ruth Welch of Sarasota, Fla., Thomas M. Welch of Richmond and Margaret Cotton of Laguna Hills, Calif. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including Paul Carter Welch of San Francisco, Calif. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Owen White Cotton and Allen Beeson Cotton. Laura was a direct descendent of the Puritan minister Rev. John Cotton. She was a long time resident of the Fan district and a member of St. James's Episcopal Church. Laura was active in the field of architecture all of her adult life. She was associated with many well known national architects throughout the West, the Panama Canal Zone and the East Coast as she travelled with her husband in his military career. At the time of her retirement, she was associated with Moseley-Hening Associates, Inc. of Richmond. She designed the Victory Arch in Newport News and was the project manager for the Terminal Building expansion at Richmond International Airport and the Reynolds Metals Office Building. She was also a writer and genealogist and recently published two books on family histories. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Entombment Hollywood Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 5875 Bremo Rd., Suite 710, Richmond, Va., 23226.

WHEAT
Carolyn Rebecca Wheat, age 66, of Providence Road, Richmond, died Friday, April 27, 2001 in Rockville, Md. She is survived by two nieces, Elizabeth Pickering and Carol Pickering Beeker; great-nieces and nephew, Cheryl and Brian Beeker and Dana and Kyle Kotecki. Ms. Wheat was a graduate of Mary Washington College with a degree in elementary education. Ms. Wheat devoted her entire career to teaching first and second grade in the Richmond Public Schools and was a long time member of Providence United Methodist Church. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday April 29 at Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations Providence United Methodist Church. Arrangments by K.L. AGEE
Peggy James Agee, 58, of New Kent, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Herman W. Agee Jr.; one daughter, Stacey L. Agee; a granddaughter, Sarah L. Bailey. Mrs. Agee was a retired nurse with the Richmond Public School System. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Washington Memorial Park.

BEGEAL
Marlene Begeal passed away November 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Begeal Sr.; her son, Doug Begeal, both of Quinton, Va.; a daughter, Barb and her husband, Bobby and their children, Robert and Reed, of Richmond. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Parish Church in New Kent. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

BOBBITT
Theresa Tinnell "Terri" Bobbitt, 48, of Concord, N.C., formerly of Richmond, Va. died Sunday, November 18, 2001. She worked as Executive Director of Arc Cabarrus in North Carolina and was a member of the Concord Civitans and Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church. She is survived by her husband, Herbert R. Bobbitt; her parents, Harry and and Frances Tinnell of Shallotte, N.C.; a daughter, Amanda Page Bobbitt; a son, Jamison Spencer, of Concord, N.C.; stepchildren, Tanya Barrett and Jennifer Fox of Richmond; two grandchildren, Jessica Fox and Madison Mellon of Richmond; four sisters, Rita Bannister of Richmond, Carol Cahill of Bluffton, S.C., Susan Jackson of Richmond and Kathleen Roberts of Concord, N.C. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (today) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, Concord, N.C. Rev. Dr. Norbert Hahn officiating. Memorials may be made to Arc Cabarrus, 2319 Concord Lake Rd., Concord, N.C. 28025.

BODINE
Addie "Louise" Bodine, 82, of Glen Allen, died November 20, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Willard Durwood Bodine; her daughter, Sara Margaret Gray; her sister, Edna Davis; and her grandson, Michael Allen Gray. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Saturday 12:30 p.m. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

BROOKS
Alma Louise Brooks, age 79, of Christchurch, died Monday, November 19, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Alma Bareford and Andrew L. Brooks of Christchurch. Survived by several cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Dunbrooke. Arrangemnets by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda.

CRAIG
William Edlow Craig, 93, of Richmond, passed away November 20, 2001 at the University Park Health Care Center. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth G. "Betsy" Craig; several cousins; and a faithful friend, David B. Lyons Sr. Mr. Craig retired from Export Leaf Tobacco Co. as Secretary and Director after 45 years of service and was a member and Deacon Emeritus of Pine Street Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the staff of University Park for their dedicated support and loving care. His remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 23. CREIGHTON
George Bradley Creighton, age 72, passed away on November 18, 2001 after a long illness in Richmond, Va. He was born on June 14, 1929 in Burdett, N.Y., son of George Birge Creighton and Gladys Marie (Foster) Creighton. His wife, Juanita Graham Creighton; one son, Stanley George Creighton and Mary Ellen Helton Creighton of Aylett, Va., survive him. Three stepchildren, Deborah Jenkins, Thomas Graham Jenkins, Rev. Mark and Terrie Jenkins, all of Richmond, Va.; six grandchildren and one-great-grandchild. One sister, Ruth Creighton Palmer and Harold Palmer of Hector, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews also survive him. George graduated from Watkins Glen High School in Watkins Glen, N.Y. and State Technical in Utica, N.Y., with a degree in mechanical engineering. He retired after years of service from Gould's Pumps of Seneca Falls, N.Y. He was an active member and a Deacon of Second Baptist Church until his illness, and then he enjoyed the Grove Avenue television ministry. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Rd., Richmond, Va. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 12609 Patterson Ave, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Baptist Building Fund, 6914 River Rd., Richmond, Va 23229-7635 or Grove Avenue Television Ministry, 8701 Ridge Road, Richmond, Va. 23229.

CROMLEY
Katherine "Kitty" Rand Bernhard Cromley died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2001. Born July 30, 1911 in Raleigh, N.C., Kitty was the only daughter of Kate Belle Pinder and Robert Lee Rand. Before her third birthday, her family moved to Richmond where her father worked with Virginia-Carolina Hardware Company. She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1928 and the Richmond Normal School in 1930 and, upon graduation, married Wilhelm Karl Bernhard, also of Richmond. He died in May of 1962. She served on the faculty of St. Catherine's School for Girls until 1935 when she and her husband moved to Raleigh, N.C. to care for her aunt and uncle, Dabney and Vashti Poindexter. She made Raleigh her home for the rest of her life. Active in the Raleigh community, Kitty was president of the Junior Woman's Club, on the board of the Traveler's Aid Society and the Junior League of Raleigh, serving as Chairman of the committee assigned to finding rooms for out-of-state students at NCSU, then known as State College. She was a substitute teacher at Ravenscroft School when it was located on Tucker Street and served on the Ravenscroft Board. Kitty and her father were baptized by Dr. William McClanahan White at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and she, with her husband, became an active member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was president of the Women of the Church from 1956-1957, was the first woman to be ordained a deacon and in 1993 was honored by the Presbyterian Women with an Honorary Life Membership. Kitty was a member of the Bloomsbury Chapter of the Daughters of the Revolution of 1776, a patron of the Terpsichorean Club, a member of the Carolina Country Club, the Nine O'Clock Cotillion and the Circle Club. In 1968 she married a very dear gentleman, Robert I. Cromley, who died in 1990. She is survived by a brother, Robert Lee Rand Jr. of Richmond; a daughter, Katherine "Kit" Bernhard O'Neal Boney of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Wilhelm Karl Bernhard Jr. of Raleigh and Rand Bernhard of Richmond; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 23, 2001 at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends in the Jane Bell Gathering Space following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Fund at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27608.
