Pauline Moody, 67 of Spotsylvania, died Wednesday May 30, 2007 in Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of James Wade Moody and was a member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Mrs. Moody was a licensed minister for twenty years and loved Gospel music, most recently singing in the group, Trinity Harvest. Survivors include two devoted children, Roderick and Renee Moody both of Spotsylvania; a sister, Peggy Forrest of Florida and a brother, Charles Hockaday of Richmond. A funeral service will be held Saturday June 2 at 2:00 PM in Travelers Rest Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Hockaday- Haynes Family cemetery at Marye. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Friday 6:30 – 9:00 PM.

Phyllis S. Marmaduke, 73 of Bowling Green, died Tuesday May 22, 2007 in Richmond. Born in Spotsylvania County, she was a member of Bowling Green Baptist Church and was active with the Womens Auxillary of the Bowling Green Vol. Fire Dept. for many years while her husband served as Chief. She retired after 28 years of service with Rappahannock Electric Cooperative in the Operations and Construction Department and for the past 11 years she was employed as a receptionist with Storke Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband, Jack Marmaduke; her son, Brian Marmaduke of Woodford; four sisters, Betty White of Henrico, Shirley Chinault and Frances Corr of Chesterfield and Carol Stone of Marengo IL; three brothers, John and Mason Stanley of Spotsylvania and Russell Stanley of Fredericksburg; two sisters in law, Ruth Bareford of Tappahannock and Lucille Spencer of Richmond and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Andrew and Walter Stanley. Funeral services will be Saturday May 26, 2007 at 1:00 PM in Bowling Green Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Lakewood cemetery. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Friday 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

William Henry Young, 92, of Ruther Glen, died Saturday May 12, 2007 in Richmond. Born in Penola, he had worked all his life in the lumber business. Survivors include his nieces, Juanita S. Tinsley and her husband, Bernard and Margaret Anne Lamb and her husband James; one great niece and two great nephews. Funeral services were held Monday May 15, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Rev. David Upshaw officiating. Burial followed in Concord Baptist Church cemetery.

David P. Nuckols Sr., 34 of Ruther Glen, died Thursday May 10, 2007. Survivors include his wife, Donna Nuckols; five children, Melissa, Buffy and Michael Sharpe and Amanda and David Nuckols Jr, all of the home; his parents, Robert and Linda Nuckols of Dinwiddie; his brother, Travis Nuckols of Dinwiddie; his mother in law Donna Moore of Woodford. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 15 at 2:00 PM in St. Matthew Methodist Church cemetery in Rockville. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Monday 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to a fund established for his children through Christ Episcopal Church c/o First Market Bank 253 North Washington Highway Ashland VA 23005.

Evelyn C. Middlebrook, 66 of Hanover died Sunday May 6, 2007. Survivors include her son, James E. Middlebrook of Hanover; four brothers, George B. Cecil Jr. of Bowling Green, James Cecil of Bowling Green, John Harvey Cecil of Manakin-Sabot and Reuben Cecil of Bowling Green; three sisters, Ruby Smith of Mechanicsville, Jennie Brown of Spotsylvania and Rachel Cecil of Bowling Green. A graveside funeral service will be Thursday May 10 at 2:00 PM in Salem Baptist Church cemetery, Sparta. The family will receive friends Wednesday 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Conchita Marie”Chita” Gilbertson, 80 of Ladysmith passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007. Born November 8, 1926 in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the only child of Ruperto Serrano and Concepcion Sanchez deMedio. Following graduation from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA in 1947 with a degree in chemistry and biology, she began work as a chemist at the Naval Surface Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, VA. It was at NSWL that Chita met Warren “Gil” Gilbertson, a Naval Aviaotr who she married in 1949, creating a union lasting nearly 57 years. After beginning their life together in King George County, VA, they settled at Summit in Spotsylvania County, to raise their two sons and three daughters. During this time they ran a small farm and operated Gilbertson’s Greenhouses and Nursery, growing vegetable and bedding plants for sale in the Fredericksburg area. In 1976, Chita and Gil moved to Lake Caroline at Ladysmith to enjoy their passion for the water, boating, and fishing. An accomplished pianist, Chita served as the church organist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Woodford for many years in the sixties and seventies.
In 1971, Chita became certified by the Library of Congress as a Braille Transcriptionist and began transcribing books for visually impaired students. While she originally learned Braille on the six-key Perkins Brailler, Chita was a pioneer in developing computer-assisted transcription. She served in various capacities with the National Braille Association, including the electronics, foreign language, and math and science committees. Up until her death, Chita continued to produce Braille textbooks for the National Braille Press, specializing in math, sciences, foreign languages including Spanish and Latin, and music. Chita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eldest son, Eric. She is survived by a son, Carl of Missoula, Mont.; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonita and Kirby Dennis of Holly Springs, NC., Janice and Dennis Ganoe of Petersburg, VA. and Lois and Stephen Rowland of Midlothian, VA. She also leave to cherish her memories five grandchildren, Lori Ganoe Sturt, Jodi Ganoe, Lexa Dennis, Samuel Rowland and Ingrid Rowland; and a great-grandson, Christopher Ganoe.
The family will receive friends during visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 10306 Ladysmith Road, Ladysmith, VA on Friday, May 11 at 10:00 a.m. Her cremated remains will be buried at 2:00 PM Friday, May 11, 2007 at Culpeper National cemetery where she will join her husband and eldest son..
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Conchita may be made to the Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 186, Ladysmith, VA. 22501.

Ruby Crosslin, 78, of Fredericksburg died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. Born in Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Hicks and Hattie Creech and had retired from the Stafford County School System. She is survived by a son, Eddie Crosslin and his wife, Pam; four grandsons, Mitchell, Richard, Robert and Garrett Crosslin; and a great-grandson, Zack Crosslin. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Mary Washington Home and Health Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, VA. 22407. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

J. W. Phillips III, 67 of Ruther Glen, died Monday April 30, 2007. He was the owner of Phillip’s Organic Farm in Caroline and served as a proud Marine during Viet Nam and retired after Operation Desert Storm. Survivors include his wife, Caryn C. Phillips; three children, Joan Martin and her husband Eddie of Richmond, James W. Phillips IV and his wife Donna of Richmond and Julie May Pasowicz and her husband Kenny of Aylett; three step children, Bryan Harmon and his wife Marci of Ohio, John Harmon and his wife Liz of Waynesboro and Jason Harmon and his wife Leigh of Colorado; two sisters, Virginia Flournoy of Mechanicsville and Anne–Callis Ritter of Woodbridge; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; aunts, Lillian Mills and Margareite Carr. A memorial service will be held Saturday May 12, 2007 at 2:00 PM in Round Oak Baptist Church at Corbin. Private interment, with Marine Corp Honors, will be in Quantico National cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 4240 Park Place Ct. Glen Allen VA 23060.

Grace Elizabeth Simulcik, 90 of Woodford, died Thursday April 26, 2007 in Princeton, New Jersey. Born in Pennsylvania, she was the widower of William G. Simulcik Sr. Survivors include three children, Grace Valconi and William G. Simulcik Jr. both of New Jersey and Garrett Simulcik of New York; eight grandchildren, Richard Simulcik, Billy Simulcik, Garrett Simulcik, John Simulcik, Eric Simulcik, Debbie Landsnes, Diana Valconi and Andrea Simulcik; four great grandchildren, David Landsnes, Thomas Landsnes, Anthony Herridia and Steven Herridia. She was preceded in death by a son Richard A. Simulcik Sr. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday May 2, 2007 at 11:00 AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, Ladysmith, with burial to follow in the church cemetery at Woodford. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, May 1st at 4:00 PM at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with a visitation to follow from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

Joseph Wickouski, 86, of Woodford died with his daughters by his side, Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Caroline, he was a lifelong farmer and loved hunting and fishing. He was a paratrooper in the U. S. Army during World War II. Survivors include his three daughters, Ann Toner of Fredericksburg, Jody Mabe of Greensboro, NC and Jenny Jones of Woodford; a brother, Michael James “Mickey” Wickouski of Bowling Green; a sister, Josephine Choma of New Jersey; five grandsons, Joseph Massey, Matt Massey, Michael Toner, Will Mabe and Andrew Mabe; and a granddaughter, Emily Massey. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2007 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery, Woodford, VA. The family requests memorial contributions be made in honor of Mickey Wickouski to the Alzheimers Foundation, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Richmond, VA. 23060.

Robert E. Young, 81 of Port Royal, died Tuesday April 24, 2007 in Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Born in Penola, he was the widower of Thelma Young and had retired as an electrical inspector at NSWC after 30 years of service. He was a WWII Navy veteran and had the distinction of accompanying Admiral Richard E. Byrd to the South Pole in 1947 aboard the USS Mount Olympus. Survivors include his daughter, Robyn Hill of Fredericksburg; his brother, Henry Young of Richmond and his granddaughter, Brooke Taylor Burton of Spotsylvania. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lee Young. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 28th at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Rev. Dwight C. Storke officiating. Burial, with Navy honors, will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday morning, one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 113 Port Royal VA 22535.

Florence Washington Lucy, 91, known as “Gagi” to her family, of Woodford died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born at Woodpecker in Woodford, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Grace Coghill Washington. She was the widow of Vernon D. Lucy, Jr. Survivors include her son, Vernon D. Lucy III and his wife, Dale Crisp Lucy of Mechanicsville: a granddaughter, Dana Lucy Egan and her husband, Kevin P. Egan; a grandson, Christopher Vernon Lucy and his wife, Nancy G. Lucy; and five great-grandchildren, Caroline, Katharine and Reilly Egan and Thomas and Lauren Lucy. A funeral service will be held 4:30 PM Sunday, April 15, 2007 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Rev. Dr. Peter Vaughn and Rev. Dr Harry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery, Bowling Green, VA. The family will receive friends 5-8 PM Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the funeral home. Albert Elmer Servais, 90, a resident of Balty, Caroline County for over 70 years, passed peacefully on April 10, 2007 at The Peele Home in Manquin after a long battle with Parkinson.
He was born May 18, 1916 in McDonald, PA and retired in 1981 a Captain of the Caroline County Sheriff’s Department and had worked twenty years at the FMC plant in Fredericksburg.
His wife of 53 years, Virginia Bowers Servais; mother, Nellie Gosseaux Reiss, stepfather, Dr. Walter Reiss, father, Louis John Servais, two brothers, Frank and Ferdinand “Fred” Servais and sister, Yvonne S. Anderson preceded him in death.
Survivors include four daughters, Yvonne Virginia Patton and her husband, Paul of Rappahannock Academy, Catherine Diane Smith and her husband, Jud of Bowling Green, Carolyn Merle Pack and her husband, Burl of Balty and Cheryl Anne Fields of Fredericksburg; four grandsons, Judson Dwayne Smith of Seattle, Washington, Michael McKenney Smith of Chesterfield, Douglas Albert Patton of Rappahannock Academy and Hunter Webster Pack of Balty; three granddaughters, Suzanne Dare Muse of Port Royal, Robyn Anne Fisher of Rappahannock Academy, Dianne Virginia Smith of Port Royal, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, a sister, Dorothy Rosella Servais Vasko of Eighty Four, PA and many nieces and nephews across the country.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2007.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church Endowment Fund, P O. Box 294, Bowling Green, VA. 22427.

Douglas O. Satterwhite Sr., 62 of Bowling Green, died Monday April 9, 2007 in Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Caroline County, he was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Stafford. Survivors include his wife, Anna “Polly” Satterwhite; his mother, Lucille Mosley of Ladysmith; three children, Billy Armstrong of Woodford, Donna Andrews of Supply and Douglas O’Donald “O.D.” Satterwhite Jr. of Bowling Green; his brother, Coleman Temple Satterwhite of Ladysmith; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will be Friday April 13th at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Tommy Satterwhite officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
