Margie R. Serrett, 85 of Rappahannock Academy died Friday September 19, 2008. She was a devoted mother, avid gardener and known as “Miss Margie” by her customers at Rozell’s Store in Woodford. Survivors include a son, Lonnie Serrett and his wife Elaine of Rappahannock Academy; four daughters, Linda Cook and her husband Jason of Glen Allen, Lola Serrett and her husband Frankie Dietrich of Rappahannock Academy, June Serrett and her friend, John Richardson of Richmond and Mandi Serrett and her fiancé Chris Rigsby of Woodford; a son in law, Buck Caldwell of Port Royal; a daughter in law, Stephanie Serrett of Spotsylvania; a sister, Theodora Howland of Spotsylvania; a brother, Cecil Rozell of Heathsville; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Caldwell, a son Jeff Serrett and a granddaughter Yvonne Reedal. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 24th at 1:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Garden, Fredericksburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Caroline Fire Dept. 9344 Stonewall Jackson Rd. Woodford VA 22580.

Autumn BeasleyAutumn Denee Grace Beasley, Infant daughter of Jennifer Michelle Beasley, was born at Mary Washington Hospital on September 18, 2008 weighing 7lbs 12 oz and 20 inches long. She went home to be with the Lord at 2:32 AM and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her mother Jennifer Beasley and Shannon Fortune; a great-great grandmother, 3 great grandmothers, 2 great grandfathers, her grandparents David and Cindy Rozell of Charles City and Mary Hockaday and Reggie Ferguson Sr of Ladysmith; Aunts, Amy R Bernard (Jesse) of Spotsylvania and Angela R Bissoon (John) of Milford; and her uncles, Chad A Rozell (Joni) of Woodford, J. Christopher Beasley of Varina, Reggie Ferguson (Tiffany), and Mike Ferguson (Ana). A host of cousins from all over the state. Autumn was proceeded in death by her grandfather J. Garnett Beasley of Sparta. A graveside service will be held today at Greenlawn Cemetary in Caroline County at 3:00 PM.

Nora Ann Shook, 57 of Woodford died Thursday September 18, 2008 at her home. Survivors include four children, Bo Seal of Sparta, Amy Carter of Woodford, Douglas “Peanut” Taylor of Carmel Church and Laura Taylor of Powhatan; her mother, Lorene Shook of Woodford; six sisters, Sue Taylor of Woodford, Dessie Lemley of Bowling Green, Faye Carter of Sparta, Judy Shook of Ruther Glen, Belinda Judd of Kentucky and Vicky Heney of West Point; two brother, Bert Shook and Billy Shook both of Woodford and seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Monday September 22nd at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Pastor Michael McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

William A. “Bill” Anderson, 71, of Ladysmith died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at his home. Born in Richmond, he had retired in 2000 as a vocational teacher at Hermitage Technical Center. He was a master marine and auto technician and he was awarded “Teacher of the year” while at Hermitage. In his younger years, he was a champion water skier and had recently begun his second term as Madison representative to the Caroline School Board. He was also a member of the Grace Community Church of Caroline.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Anderson; three children, Sharon Anderson of Richmond, Mary Lynn Anderson of Stafford and Bill Walker of Fauquier; a step daughter, Carol Sloper and her husband, John of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and step-son, Gene Mongole and his wife, Kimberly of Arnold, MD; a sister, Betty Phillips of Arkansas, a brother, Roy Anderson of Alexandria; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his dog, Suzie Q. He was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Linda Mongole.
A funeral service will be held 7 PM Friday, September 12 at the Caroline Community Service Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green with Rev. Cash Beveridge officiating. The family will receive friends, at the Center following the service.

Edwin Chenault, 63 of Ruther Glen died Saturday September 6, 2008 in Mary Washington Hospital. He was a member of Ladysmith Baptist Church, a 40 year employee of Pratt Industries in Ashland and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Cathy Chenault; two daughters, Pamela Chenault of Richmond and Amanda Mongold and her husband Ronnie, of Fredericksburg; his mother, Lucille Chenault of Bowling Green; two sisters, Annette McDonald and Barbara Davis both of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Danie’le Chenault and Gabriel, Allie and Jeremiah Mongold. A funeral service will be held Wednesday September 10th at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in County Line Baptist Church cemetery, Ruther Glen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladysmith Vol. Rescue Squad P.O. Box 186 Ladysmith VA 22501.

Patsy Lee “Pat” Blanton, 56, of Caroline County died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fredericksburg, July 31, 1952, she was raised in her family home in Ruther Glen and a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was a 1970 graduate of Caroline High School and attended Ferrum College and Pan American Business School. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Blanton and her brother, Taylor Blanton. Pat was a loving daughter, sister and dedicated friend. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Betty and Aubrey Wade of Mechanicsville; a step-mother, Evelyn Blanton; a sister and her husband, Debbie and Buddy Thomas ; two nephews, Brad Thomas and Joel Blanton ;two nieces, Haley Kennedy and Katie Blanton; a great-nephew, Caleb Kennedy and four great-nieces, Kendall Thomas, Delaney Thomas, Hannah Kennedy and McKenzie Kennedy. Pat had a longtime friend and wonderful caregiver, Ned Burruss and also her pet dog Zoe. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Shirley Ann Stafford, 69 of Statesboro GA, formerly of Caroline, died Saturday August 30, 2008. Survivors include six children, Larry Shaver Jr. and Jimmy Shaver of Georgia, Peggy Jones of Maryland, George Breeden of Spotsylvania, Paul Breeden of King George and Brett Breeden of Essex; a sister, Annie Belew and a brother Henry “Billy” Shaver both of Charlottesville; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A funeral service will be Monday, September 1st at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, two hours prior to the service.

Freddie Wilson Hall, 84, of Ladysmith passed away at his home on Monday, August 18, 2008. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 81st Fighter Squadron of the Army Air Force in northern France, landing in Normandy shortly after D-Day.
He was a member of County Line Baptist Church. He was a generous and kind man, always willing to give a helping hand to those in need, quietly doing various acts of charity that may have gone unknown. He also helped in the community in several ways. He was a member of the Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief for several years during the 1950s. He was also the owner of Hall’s Esso/Exxon of Ladysmith for over 35 years. Many young men in the area go their first job working for Mr. Hall.
He enjoyed country music and loved playing the guitar with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing at Lake Caroline, where he was one of the first property owners. He was married to Genny Hall for over sixty years, lovingly caring for her until her death in June 2007.
Survivors include his three children, Lorraine (Hall) Miller of Ladysmith, Thomas Wood Hall of Baltimore, MD and Denise (Hall) Wendle of Harrisburg, PA, five grandchildren, Shawn Kendall and Chad Kendall, both of Orlando, FL, Jason Wendle of Cambridge, MA, Ethan Wendle of Port Matilda, PA and Heather Crabtree of Ladysmith, as well as three great grandchildren, Jackson Kendall and Sophie Kendall of Orlando, FL and Jonah Wendle of Cambridge, MA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel (Hall) Kulynych and Doris (Hall) Servais and a brother, “Bubba” Hall.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11AM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with the Reverend Franklyn Carrington, of Manassas presiding. Following the burial, friends and family will be received at the County Line Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Ralph Samuel Collins, Sr., 73, of Beaverdam, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at VCU Medical Center. Born in Wise County, VA he owned and operated Collins Construction Company. Survivors include his wife, Geneva P. Collins; three sons, Ralph Collins, Jr. of Ashland, Kenneth Ray Collins and Darrell Ray Collins both of Beaverdam; four daughters, Debbie Elmore of Beaverdam, Lisa Marie Wagner of Sahuarita, AZ, Rita Faye Minter of Louisa, and Amy Michelle Tullos of Beaverdam; one sister, Verna Mae Barlow of Waverly; and two brothers, Raymond Collins of Cincinnati, Ohio and Earl Collins of Richmond; seventeen grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Moore Spivey. A funeral service will be held 11 am Thursday, August 21, 2008 in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Rev. Kendra Swager officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the funeral home.

Rozanne L. McGee, 65 of Woodford, died Monday August 11, 2008, after a long illness. She was born February 9, 1943 and then “born again” April 25, 1971. Survivors include her husband, Pastor Thomas G. McGee; a daughter, Roxanne Burton of Atkins; two sons, Thomas G. McGee II of Spotsylvania and Pastor Michael McGee of Woodford; a sister, Linda Grube of Canton, Michigan; a brother, Nicholas Pogrmich of Howell, Michigan; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson. A funeral service will be held Friday August 15th at 11:00 AM in Ambassador Baptist Church, Woodford, with Dr. Donald Forrester officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery, Bowling Green. The family will receive friends at the church, Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ambassador Baptist Church Missions Fund 11434 Fredericksburg Turnpike Woodford VA 22580.

Kenneth R. Burnette, 50 of Ladysmith, died Sunday August 10, 2008 in Mary Washington Hospital. Born in North Carolina, he was employed by Coastal Supply in Doswell. Survivors include his fiancée, Annette Scruggs of Ladysmith; his wife, Linda Burnette of Milford; a sister, Shirley Liles of Ladysmith; two brothers, Jimmy and Michael Burnette of North Carolina; step-granddaughters, Erika Lynn Bryant and Ashley Bryant; God daughter, Jasmine Arlene Acors and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be held Wednesday, August 13th at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Tuesday, 7:00 – 9:00 PM.

Virginia Cooper Walker, 84 of Shumansville, died Friday, August 8, 2008 at Mary Washington Hospital. Born in Caroline, she was the widow of Lawrence Walker. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Lazenby of Texas and Wendy Carter of Richmond; two brothers, Earl Cooper and Francis Cooper both of Shumansville; three sisters, Irene Barlow of Milford, Nancy Etzcorn and Evelyn Crisman both of Shumansville; four grandchildren Troy Beattie, Greg Higgins, Kenny Lazenby and Gina Whittaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter Carol Ann Beattie and a grandson, Aaron Lazenby. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Storke Funeral Home.

Davy “Lee” Hughes 67 of Spotsylvania, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and beloved wife Dorothy “Bev” Hughes on August 7, 2008. He was a member of Ladysmith Baptist Church and had served in the United States Marine Corp. Lee had retired after working and operating his own heating and air conditioning business in the local community for over 30 years. He was known best for his generous and giving heart, the love of the outdoors, animals and his family. Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Hughes Carroll of Spotsylvania; a son, Hunter Lee Hughes and his wife, Tammy of Spotsylvania; two grandsons, Timothy Blake Carroll of Spotsylvania and Austin Chase Hughes of Harpers Ferry WVA; two granddaughters, Dallas Lee Hughes and Lexi Lee-Ann Hughes of Ruther Glen; a step granddaughter, Skylar McMillion of Ruther Glen; a brother and sister in law, Dale and Betty Hughes of Pennsylvania; four sisters, Jean Wintamyer, Dot Saulisbury and Mae Brown of Pennsylvania and Rae NeSmith of Florida; a brother in law and sister in law, James and Kathy Lacey of Amissville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by and infant daughter and his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Dorothy “Bev” Hughes. A memorial service will be held Sunday August 10th at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green. A private interment will take place at a later date in Mount Comfort cemetery, Alexandria, alongside his loving wife and daughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Mary Washington Hospice.

Thelma P. Southworth, 84 of Ruther Glen, passed away peacefully July 23, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband Fleming Southworth. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and William B. (Bill) Anderson Jr. of Ruther Glen; grandson, Scott Southworth and his wife, Chrystal; two great grandchildren, Whitney and Michael; her sister, Bernice Beazley and her husband Gordon; her brother, Lee Dyson; two sisters-in-law, Grace Walton and Dora Ann Polly and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday July 26th at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday 7:00 – 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Concord Baptist Church c/o 3914 Smokey Road Aylett VA 23009.
