Kim Rozell, 49 of Locust Grove, originally of Caroline, died Thursday July 17, 2008 in Mary Washington Hospital. Survivors include her mother and step-father, Patsy and Reginald Acors of Ladysmith; four children, Melissa Rozell of Mechanicsville, Shawn Rozell and Shannon Deloach both of Ladysmith and Warren “JR” Deloach Jr. of Hanover; a sister, Kristal Leonard of Ladysmith; two brothers, David A. Rozell of Charles City and Maxie Rozell of Ruther Glen; four grandchildren, Sidney and Sierra Mines, Alysia Alexander and Elizabeth Deloach; her fiance’ Jim Quigley of Locust Grove and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Sunday July 20th at 2:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Carmel Baptist Church cemetery, Ruther Glen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Ladysmith Rescue Squad.

James Irving Bruce, 85 of Woodford, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Mary Washington Hospital. Mr. Bruce was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had retired after 40 years service from Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac railroad. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and gardening. He was well known for sharing his vegetables with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy P. Bruce; four children, Barbara B. Lewis and her husband, Craig of Bowling Green, Carol B. Pitts and her husband, Nelson of Milford; James Irving Bruce, Jr. of Woodford, and Diane Bowling and her husband, Jamie of Woodford; three sisters, Thelma Perdue of Sandston, Julia Cousins, Charles City, and Margaret Levy of Mechanicsville; five grandchildren, Eddie Lewis and his wife, Samantha, Hilary Lewis, Jennifer Pitts, Chris Pitts, and Jesse Bruce; and three great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church, Bowling Green. Interment will follow in Lakewood cemetery. Loretta M. Johnston, 92 of Woodford, formerly of Yorktown, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Golding Living Nursing Home, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Alvah Monroe Johnston and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown.
Survivors include her son, William (Bill) Monroe Johnston Sr. of Yorktown; her daughter, Alice Lorenzo and her husband John Sr. of Woodford; four grandchildren, William M. Johnston Jr., John Lorenzo Jr., Deborah Abel and Steven Lorenzo; four great grandchildren, Olivia Lorenzo, Gabrielle Lorenzo, Michael Abel Jr. and Kara Abel. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Nicholson. A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 16th at 2:00 PM in Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, with Rev. Thurman Hayes officiating. Betty J. Sullivan, 66 of Bowling Green, died Friday July 4, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Wilson L. Sullivan Sr. and a life member of the Bowling Green Vol. Rescue Squad. Survivors include five children, Gayle Randler of Sugarland TX, Debra Carneal of Milford, Donna Sullivan of Louisa, Cynthia Tarter of Spotsylvania and Wilson L. Sullivan Jr. of Bowling Green; three sisters, Mary Stringham, Adeline Hancock and Joann Hall all of Spotsylvania; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 8th at 2:00 PM in Round Oak Baptist Church, Corbin, with burial in the church cemetery. Katherine Stephenson “Kay” Lennox, 80 of Richmond, formerly of Pittsburg, Pa. peacefully departed this life Saturday June 28, 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Lennox and her husband Kert Hook of Richmond; her son, Craig Stephen Lennox of Elverson, Pa. and her daughter, Kimberley Beatrice Gittman and her husband George of Ruther Glen, Va.; three grandchildren, John Casey Hook, Karl Stephen Lennox-Barbru and Katherine Elizabeth Gittman and her lifelong friend, Ruth Harbaugh of Oxnard, Ca. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Love Stephenson and Elizabeth Allen Stephenson and her sister, Betsy Smith. While Kay had many interests and friends throughout her life, nothing was more important to her than her children and grandchildren. Her family wishes to thank all her caregivers over the past 5 years in Richmond, especially her buddy LaShell Jefferson, who helped Kay and her family keep their perspective and sense of humor during her illness. A memorial service will be held at Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Ladysmith, Va. Sunday June 29th at 6:00 PM. Kay will be buried in Bethel cemetery, in her beloved Pittsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Virginia.

Barbara Jean Herald, 81 of Rappahannock Academy VA, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg VA. Barbara was born on Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa, to Bessie and Ralph Hill. She studied nursing at the University of Michigan and was a compassionate care giver to many throughout her life. A Girl Scout leader and frequent volunteer, she was an avid reader and baker; bu, t her abiding passion in life was her family. She was a devoted mother and loving wife and is survived by her husband of 58 years, John Herald; a brother, James Hill of Waco TX; a daughter, Patricia Dayton of Baltimore; a son, Michael Herald of Lakeville MN and four grandchildren, John Kelly, Ella, Anthony and Tyler. A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 2nd at 10:00 AM in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Port Royal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church Memorial Garden Fund P.O. Box 399 Port Royal VA 22535.

James Allen “Peter” Kay, 84, of Ladysmith, died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Bowling Green Health Care Center. Born in a portion of Caroline County that is now in A. P. Hill, he retired after 28 years at FMC and then worked at Fort A. P. Hill. He was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of County Line Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Estelle Haynes Kay; a daughter, Deborah Allen Kay of Richmond; a brother, Gordon Kay and his wife, Marjorie of Doswell; three sisters, Lola Kay Roach of Richmond, Gladys Kay Satterwhite and Margaret Kay Satterwhite both of Beaverdam; and a sister-in-law, Jean Kay of Milford; eight nieces and five nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Burleigh Kay, Harold Kay and William Kay and a sister, Mary Jane Quillen. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green with Dr. Fred Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in County Line Baptist Church cemetery. Robert Lee Hall, Sr., 71, of Ruther Glen died Saturday, June 23, 2008. He was the son of the late Walter Hall and Katherine Hall Ellis, and had worked for Washington Roofing Products in Washington, DC, for 40 years. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Renee L. Hall; three sons, Robert L. Hall, Jr. and Kirk D. Hall, both of Ruther Glen, and Wesley W. Hall of Iowa; three daughters, Marlene D. Cox and Renita M. Hill, both of Ruther Glen, and Tammy L. Hall of Richmond; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters, Betty Ann Wonders of King George County, Irene Richardson, Mary Winship and Patricia Jagodnik, all of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jean Nelson of Avenue, Md.; and one brother, James “Bo” Green of King George. A funeral will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church, Ruther Glen, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Demple Chenault Barlow, 71, of Ruther Glen, died Saturday, June 14, 2008. Born in Caroline County, she was a 1954 graduate of Caroline High School and an active member of Concord Baptist Church where she had been a member of the choir, a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Anthony E. Barlow; her son, Jeffrey E. Barlow and his wife, Tammy and their children, Jeremy, Kendall, Evan and Madison; a granddaughter, Christina B. Justice and her husband, Alvin Rai and their four children; a brother, Percy F. Chenault, three sisters, Evelyn C. Loftis, Arlene C. Barlow, and Delores C. Golden; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda G. Barlow, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy S. Chenault. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary K. Barlow, her brother, A. Lee Chenault and a sister, June C. Wilson. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Concord Baptist Church, 15625 Concord Road, Ruther Glen, VA. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Jean Martin Satterwhite, 84, of Ashland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. She was the widow of Lester Satterwhite. She is survived by two daughters, Merry and Bill Collins of Mechanicsville and Leslie and Brian Luck of Mechanicsville; two sons, Mark and Janet Bay of Ashland and David and Connie Bay of St. Cloud, FL; step-mother, Freda Martin of Harrisonburg; and a brother, Roy Martin of Lake City, Fl; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Cardinal Baptist Church, Ruther Glen with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Norman C. Kidd III, 47 of St. Augustine Florida, formerly of Caroline, died Sunday, June 8, 2008. Survivors include his mother, Joyce Barlow; his father, Norman C. Kidd Jr.; two children; sisters, Debra Ellke and Brenda Ropiekie and two brothers, William Kidd and Ray Kidd. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12th at 3:00 PM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Faye Irene Howell, 76 of Partlow, died Friday June 6, 2008 at her home. Survivors include her husband, John H. Howell; two children, John S. Howell of West Virginia and Regina Fay Thomas of Partlow; three sisters, Martina Rebert of Delaware, Frances Grenzebach of Florida and Deborah Hess of Maryland; two grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Thomas and two great grandchildren, Haley Wuokko and Allison Null. A funeral service will be held Friday, June 13th at 11:00 AM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial to follow in Lakewood cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Philip William Waddell, 52, of Bowling Green, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at his home. Born in Japan he was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Waddell. Philip was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation, was a U. S. Navy veteran and worked for the City of Fredericksburg in Public Works. Survivors include two brothers, Gregory Waddell of Hartford, CT and Tom Waddell and his wife, Sandy of Woodford; a sister, Ann Waddell Loomis and her husband, Pete of Alexandria, a nephew, Corwin Waddell, and a niece, Mary Kathryn Loomis. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at St. Mary of the Annunciation. Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, June 13, 2008 at Quantico National cemetery. Alice G. Cook, 65 of Milford died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at her home. Born in Wise County, she was the widow of Guy Ralph Cook. Survivors include four children, Susan Cook and her companion Timmy Fortune of Milford, Alva Cook of Tennessee, Dee Holsten and her husband James of Milford and Valerie Campbell and her companion, Travis Barr of King George; two sisters, Jeanette Blankenship of Ashland and Helen Roberts of Greenville; a brother, Robert Adams of Bristol, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, David Cook and his wife Deedra, Alice Satterwhite, Vanessa Foster and her husband Brian, Samantha Johnson and her husband Jason, James Holsten, Rhonda Alexander and her husband Kevin, Paul Kelly and his wife Carla, Kevin Kelly, Wayne Lancaster and Cody and Tyler Estelle; twelve great-grandchildren, Dana and Nathan Cook, Nicholas Satterwhite, Kayla Collins, Caleb Guy Edward Foster, Matthew Holsten, Junior Johnson, Cierra Alexander and Brook Kelly, Wayne Lancaster, Cody and Tyler Estelle. A memorial service will be held Wednesday June 4th at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Otis Junior Samuel, 57 of Milford, went to be with the Lord Friday May 30, 2008. He was the son of the late Otis Samuel Sr. and worked for many years for Caroline County Public Schools. He enjoyed repairing automobiles in his spare time. Survivors include his two daughters, Betty Ann Fortune and her husband Jimmy of Woodford and Amy Ernest and her husband David of Ruther Glen; his mother, Laria Pitts of Milford; two sisters, Thelma Carneal and her husband Frank of Ruther Glen and Joyce Carter and her husband Julian of Bowling Green; one brother, Donald Samuel and his wife Nita of Woodford; two grandsons, Michael and Justin Fortune of Woodford. He shared a special bond with his mother’s husband Edward Pitts, affectionately known as “Grandpa”. A funeral service will be held Monday June 2nd at 3:30 PM in the chapel of Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Rev. Kevin James officiating. Burial will follow in Wrights Burying Ground, Ruther Glen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Glenn Lee Samples, 71 of Ladysmith, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at his home. He was a devoted husband and father and had retired after a long and distinguished 26 year career with the government. The last 24 years were spent at U.S. Customs where he rose to the position of Chief, Data Base Branch. Mr. Samples was also a teacher, counselor, and NASA mathematician during his early professional career. Survivors include his wife, Frances Samples; his mother, Chessie E. Brown of Waynesburg, Ohio; one brother, Richard W. Samples of Rising Sun, Maryland; one sister, Sandra Lynn Raymond of Waynesburg, Ohio; three daughters, Beverly Diana White of Edmunds, Washington; Tammy Lynn Hanson of Alpharetta, Georgia and Melissa Renee Kern of Woodbridge, Virginia; three step-children, Gary A. Rozell of Woodford, Virginia; Roger Rozell of Austin, Texas and Sandra Rozell of Woodford, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John Vincent Samples and a brother, Ronald Gene Samples. Mr. Samples was very active in the church and involved in community events. He was much beloved and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends 6-9 PM Friday, May 30, 2008 at Storke Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31 at 11:00 AM in Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with Dr. Bob Sizemore and Dr. Fred Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Sample’s home in Ladysmith, directly after the funeral.

Emma E. “Cassie” Gayle, 83 of Ruther Glen, died Wednesday May 21, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Julian W. Gayle and a member of Carmel Baptist Church in Ruther Glen. She was the Valedictorian of her 1943 graduating class at C. T. Smith High School in Ladysmith and during WWII she worked in the torpedo factory in Alexandria. Survivors include four children, Wayne Gayle and Dennis Gayle both of Richmond, David Gayle and his wife Susan and Joyce Duncan and her husband Mike all of Ruther Glen; three sisters, Irene Swisher of Ashland, Earlene Perry of Partlow and Pearl Davis of Newport News; four brothers, Clyde Carneal of Colonial Beach, Eugene Carneal of Spotsylvania, Ryland Carneal of Fredericksburg and Berkley Carneal of Woodford; five grandchildren, Amy Doss and her husband Phil, Andrew Coghill and his wife Ellen, Shannon, Derek and Andrea Gayle; two great grandchildren, Austin Doss and Haleigh Coghill. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Long. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 24th at 2:00 PM in Carmel Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Friday 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

Stanley Ray Limbrick, 75, of Bowling Green went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. He was affectionately known to those dearest to him as “Ray Ray”. He waged a courageous battle with multiple myeloma. Though “Ray Ray” lost the battle, he has victory. Mr. Limbrick was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He spent many years in the Industrial Engineering field while at FMC and General Products. Following his engineering career, Mr. Limbrick spent 35 years as a retail merchant in Bowling Green.
Mr. Limbrick was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Josephine Morris Limbrick and his special brother, Reggie.
Survivors include his wife, best friend and business partner, Ruth Limbrick; seven children, Gary Limbrick and his wife, Cathy of Stafford, Jerry Limbrick of Spotsylvania, Debra Morgan and her husband, Keith of Spotsylvania, Penny Chenault and her husband, David of Bowling Green, Mark Gaines of Bowling Green, Karen Doane and her husband, Butch of Williamsburg, Kathy Britt and her husband, Richard of Bowling Green; an “adopted” daughter, Betty Ann Fortune and her husband, Jimmy of Woodford; fourteen grandchildren, Kimberly DeBernard, John Gaines, Kristy Morgan, Eric Chenault, David Gaines, Katie Morgan, Jamie Limbrick, Ashley Doane, Danielle Canavan, Steven Chenault, Matthew Limbrick, Alicia Britt, Tyler Limbrick, and Tyler Doane; two “adopted” grandchildren, Michael and Justin Fortune; four great-grandchildren, Ryland, Taylor and Kameron DeBernard and Michael Brown.
A funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, May 23, 2008 at Bowling Green Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lakewood cemetery, The family will receive friends at 7-9 pm Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.

Patricia Kathleen (Kathy) Philip of Kathy Phillips departed this life May 12, 2008. Kathy was born February 11, 1953 in Richmond, VA. Her beloved sons, Wesley Mallory of Mechanicsville and Ashley Mallory of Bowling Green, survive her as does her cherished infant grandson, Nolan Mallory, and her loving daughter-in-law, Tracey Mallory. Kathy’s mother, Kathleen Dolan Philip of Mechanicsville; her twin sister, Debra Mitchell of Baltimore, Md; and her brother, Patrick Philip of Mechanicsville also survive her. Kathy is also survived by her niece, Margo Mitchell, her brother-in-law, Tom Mitchell, and dear friend, J. D. Rountree. Loving aunts, uncles, and cousins in Virginia, Ohio, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maryland also survive her. Her father, William (Bill) Philip predeceased her February 29, 2008. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 11 am, Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Church of the Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia, followed by burial at Signal Hill cemetery, Route 301, Hanover, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 15, 6 to 8 pm at the Church of the Redeemer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Hospice, 50 North Laura Street, Suite 1800, Jacksonville, Florida 32202. As a career nurse and hospice volunteer, she eased the pain of the thousands for whom she cared. She was admired for her artistic flair, endless creativity, and quick wit. As a true humanitarian and devoted Catholic, she will be missed by the many who will always love her.

Beverly L. Gage, 53 of Woodford, died Sunday May 4, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Donald Gage and had been active in Fire and Rescue for the last 15 years as an EMT and dispatcher. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy, Dona and Jayme Gage of Caroline and Kathryn Gage of Hampton; her step son, Donald Gage Jr. of Maine; four sisters, Jacqueline Sites and Kathy Whitaker of Springfield, Barbara Kelley of Arlington and Karen Fox of Boston; her brother, Mark Giles of Ruther Glen and five grandchildren. Mrs. Gage will be cremated and her family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Thursdays May 8th from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
