Scott not only left behind his devoted parents and daughter, but his beloved younger brothers Jason Todd Herndon and wife Angela of High Point, N.C., and Jeffry Stowe Herndon of Abingdon.

Born June 30, 1967 in Abingdon; Scott spent most his “growing up years” in Bluefield, WV. A graduate of Bluefield High School, Class of ’85; he went on to attend West Virginia University for a period of time after which he served honorably as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he went on to obtain degrees in marketing and business administration from Bluefield State College; and a degree in administration healthcare from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; after which he pursued a successful career in long term health care administration.

Scott’s survivors include: Maternal Grandfather J. W. Holbrook and wife Ima Jean of Bluefield, VA; aunts and uncles; Linda and L. D. Montgomery of Nicholasville, KY, Terry and Martin Wehnau of West Palm Beach, FL, and Jayme and Louis Carter of Princeton, WV; niece Madison Shea Herndon of High Point, NC; and cousins; Matt & Nicole Montgomery of Lexington, KY, Mark & Erin Montgomery of Mechanicsville, VA, Melinda and Carl Johnson of Cookeville, TN, Kimberly and Jeff Hewson of Palm City, FL, Amy McGehe of West Palm Beach, FL, Lou Carter, III of Princeton, WV, Ainsleigh and Lawson Montgomery of Mechanicsville, VA, Ashley Hewson of Palm City, FL, and Kyle & Zachary McGehe of West Palm Beach, FL.

Friends and family will always remember Scott’s endless smile, his dry wit, which constantly bubbled forth, his thirst for knowledge, fierce drive, and determination. An avid sportsman, Scott was as much at home casting a line for a bass or trout as he was swinging a nine iron for birdie. Those who knew him best knew he was a lifelong fan of the Cincinnati Reds and West Virginia Mountaineers. Most would also be familiar with his widespread fondness for all his facility residents, his surprising culinary skills, and insatiable interest in ornithology.

Some quotes from his favorite author Edgar Allan Poe include: “Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who only dream by night.” “In criticism I will be bold, and as sternly, absolutely just with friend and foe. From this purpose nothing shall turn me.”
