Gloria J. Carnell, 55, of Chesterfield, died June 1, 2002. Survivors include her husband, Richard H. Carnell; two daughters, Deborah Knight and Susie Fanelli; one son, Richard H. Carnell ll; her mother, Dorothy Foust; her brother, Tom Foust; her sister, Cheryl Harper; and her granddaughter, Lindsey Knight. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

CHRISTIAN
Mary Elizabeth Copeland Christian, 79, of Richmond, died May 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Edward Christian Jr.; two children, J. Ed Christian III and his wife, Sherry, Barbara C. Woodburn and her husband, Bob; sister, Ruth C. Gallagher; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Lindsey Woodburn. She was a longtime member of North Run Baptist Church, where she was also the church secretary for over 30 years. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will always have a special place in the heart of those who knew her.

EARLEY
Thomas B. Earley, 72, retired United States Air Force and a veteran of World War II, died May 31, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan A. Earley; three daughters, Diane E. DeVaney and her husband, John of Ewing, N.J., Barbara G. Earley, Donna E. Guza and her husband, Donald; four sons, Stephen Michael Earley and his wife, Karen, Robert K. Earley, Thomas B. Earley Jr. and his wife, Donna, and Richard A. Earley, all of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Brian, Kara, Erin, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Mary Sage, Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Cameron and Cassidy; a sister, Jane Brown of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a niece and nephew, Anna and Bobby. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening at St. Augustine Catholic Church, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a Mass of Resurrection to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine's Building Fund. Arrangements by the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel.

ELLIOTT
James Duke Elliott Sr., 74, of Richmond and Deltaville, Va., died Saturday, June 1, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carole Cook Elliott; two sons, James Duke Elliott Jr. and wife, Elizabeth Ziebe, and Hunter Walton Elliott and wife, Katherine Boniface; and a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Elliott Hammond and her husband, Richard Michael; six grandsons, James Duke Elliott III, Bryce Childress Elliott, Samuel Myrick Elliott, Robert Coleman Elliott, Saunders Buchanan Elliott and Trevor Walton Elliott; and two granddaughters, Elliott Lee Hammond and Rachel Windham Elliott; and one sister, Mrs. Myrtis Elliott Keppler of Sewanee, Tenn. Mr. Elliott was an Army veteran of WWII. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He was a member and former deacon and elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was associated with the plumbing and heating industry for 38 years and retired from Taylor, Lipscomb and Appel, Inc. in 1989. He was a member of Fitzgerald Lodge 299, AF&AM, and the Westwood Club. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4103 Monument Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230. Inurnment to follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

ELLIS
Sarah Katherine Ellis, 86, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Osborne; her nieces, Betsy Tanton and her husband, Tom, Brenda Hatcher, Ann Nuckols and her husband, Lawrence, and Margie Dawson and her husband, Kevin; her nephew, Leroy Ellis; her great-nieces, Lexi Tanton, Sandi Nuckols, Penny Minor, and Sydney Ellis; her great-nephews, Scott Starling, Ryan Hatcher and his wife, Leah, Shannon Hatcher and Gavin Dawson; her great-great-nephews, Ellis Dunn and Larry Dunn; and her loving companions, Wilda Creehan and Sarah Brooks. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Goochland Baptist Church.

ERDMAN
Gertrude Jones Erdman, died June 2, 2002 at the age of 95. She was the daughter of Mattie and Alexander Jones. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Smyrna Christian Church, Powcan, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Benjamin (Ben) Patrick Esch, 20, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 31, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Glenn William Haight Jr. and Loretta Esch-Haight; sister, Elizabeth Rose Haight of Chesterfield; brothers, Lee A. Haight of Michigan, and Billy Esch of Chesterfield; his girlfriend, Brittany Green of Chesterfield; paternal grandparents, Glenn and Betty Haight Sr. of Michigan; maternal grandfather, Joseph Esch of Michigan; also several aunts and uncles of Colorado and Michigan. The family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10) from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where his funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Shantia Tamona Harris, of Montpelier, Va., departed this life on May 28, 2002. She leaves to cherish her memory her father, Herman Harris; her mother, Maxine Blue; a sister, Angel Harris; grandmother, Margaret Russell Lewis; three uncles, nine aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends. Francis Monroe Hayden, nickname "Buck", of Richmond died Sunday, June 2, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Hayden; daughter, Jeannie Marie Hayden; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hayden; stepson, Ricky Crigger; and many friends. Mr. Hayden was a union bricklayer for over forty years. A memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. HILLQUIST
Sophia Vaughan Hillquist of Richmond, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Louis George Hillquist; daughters, Christina Halsted and Lace Kolmorgan of Richmond, Kathleen Ritchie of Newport News; and her son, David Hillquist of Arcadia, Mo. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Davis, Christina Hanft, Kit Halsted and Mark Kolmorgan; and six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Alexander and Christian Davis, Macaela and Jacob Hanft, and Kate Comer; and three brothers, Maurice, Harold and Horace Vaughan. The family will receive friends Monday, June 3, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at St. David's Episcopal Church, Providence and Reams Rds., in Chesterfield County. Burial to follow at Dale Memorial Park.

Norbert E. Kinsley, 80, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2002. He was the widower of Verona B. Kinsley and is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Steve and Cheryl Henry of Bath, Ohio, Ray and Dee Birk of Richmond, Va.; granddaughters, Jessica and Brady Birk and Jillian Henry; grandson, Matt Henry; sister, Mrs. Audrey Johnson; brother, Orville Kinsley and his wife, Ruth; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kinsley was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2002. LEWIS
Mrs. Hattie M. Lewis of Joplin Ave. departed this life Thursday, May 30, 2002. A retired employee of MCV Hospitals of 38 years. She is survived by her daughter, LaVerne Foster (Wayne); three grandchildren, Mustafa and Najlaa Workman, and Muniyr Foster; one sister, Shirley A. Brown; one brother, Roosevelt Dixon; five aunts, Marie Bradsher, Ada and Frances Joyner, Amy and Lula Mae Workman; two nieces, Vivian Jackson (Clarence) and Priscilla Workman; five nephews, Shelton and Tyrone Workman, Curtis Turner, Ellridge Antoine Ford (Jenifer) and G. Anthony Ford; several cousins, among them devoted, Verlee Sumpter; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 4, 12:00 noon at the Reconcilliation Church of God in Christ, 630 E. 16th St. Elder Geno Thomas, pastor, officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. MAITLAND
Marine Lance Corporal Sean Christopher Maitland, 19, departed this life into the Kingdom of God, Saturday, June 1, 2002. Sean was a resident of Dinwiddie County and was a graduate of Evangel Christian School. Prior to entering the U.S. Marine Corps on September 6, 2001, he was employed at Virginia Motorsports Park. Sean was active in the Dixie Youth Baseball League of which he received many trophies, along with participating in other sports activities through Evangel Christian School. Sean attended Crosslight Assembly of God in Petersburg. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Sean was preceded in death by his father, Fred M. Maitland Jr. and his grandfather, Fred M. Maitland Sr. He is survived by his mother, Barbara B. Faulkner and stepfather, David C. Faulkner of Dinwiddie; stepsister, Sherry F. Eagle; and stepbrother, Robert B. Faulkner of Chesterfield; grandparents, Billy and Lucille Barnes and grandmother, Imogene Maitland of Dinwiddie; and great-grandmother, Bessie Andrews of Petersburg; his fiancee, Stephanie D. Delfino of Chesterfield; close family friends, Mike, Donna and Ben Buckley, Bertha Buckley, Carol, Quade and Dillon Conway, the Delfino family, the Kelly family and the Witt family. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Colonial Heights Assembly of God, 16801 Harrowgate Rd., Colonial Heights. Evelyn Jones Majors, 89, died peacefully and surrounded by family, at her home, Saturday, June 1, 2002. She was born June 18, 1912 in South Hill, Va. a daughter of the late Greer M. Jones Sr. and Ella Louisa McLean Jones, both of Mecklenburg County, Va. She was a career educator, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway, S.C. and The Daughters of the American Revolution, Peter Horry Chapter, Horry County, S.C. Survivors include two brothers, Ralph T. Jones of Broadnax, Va. and Joseph P. Jones of Monticello, Ark.; a son, Fred F. Majors of Georgetown, S.C.; a granddaughter, Stacey L. Majors (Flowers) of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; a grandson, Christopher F. Majors of Surfside Beach, S.C.; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlin M. Flowers and Sarah E. Flowers, both of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; two former daughters-in-law, Rebekah A. Majors of Georgetown, S.C. and Judith M. Majors of Surfside Beach., S.C. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick F. Majors and a brother, Greer M. Jones Jr. The family will receive friends at a memorial held in the home on Tuesday, June 4, at 3 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hearst Cemetery in Clarksville, Va. Chief Warrant Officer Two (CW2)(Ret.) United States Army John Alexander Mansini Sr., 67, of Midlothian, Va., passed away June 1, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Mansini and grandson, Thomas A. Dowdy. He is survived by five children, Debora Chandler, Donna Grubb, John Mansini Jr., Jeanie Mills, and Pamela Vaughan; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Mansini and son-in-law, Emmett Grubb; brother, Charles Mansini; sister-in-law, Gwen Mansini; a sister, Gracie Bricker; and brother-in-law, Arthur Bricker; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer, Marcus, Crystal, Christopher, Carlos, Vangie, Shanon, Kelli, Kevin, Timmy, Shawn, Chad, Ricky, Willie; and ten great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dylan, Patrick, Aaron, Marissa, Alex, Tori, Michael, Josiah, and Noah; and a special friend, Ms. Dale Guretsky. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. and where funeral services will be held Wednesday, 3:30 p.m., with interment Dale Memorial Park. Bobbie E. Meade of Richmond departed this life Wednesday, May 29, 2002. Son of the late Syreatha Meade, he is survived by children from his first marriage, Doretha and Sterling D. Meade, other children include Bobbie Jr. and Joshua; four grandchildren; his devoted friend, Ruby Carr; father and stepmother, Luther and Lucille Meade Jr.; four sisters, Marian Powell, Linda Walker, Rachael Tilghman and Mary Martin; one brother, Michael Meade; stepbrothers, Tyrone and Johnny; one son-in-law, Emmanuel Charles; three brothers-in-law, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral services will be held Monday (today), June 3, 11 a.m., at the Crusade for Christ Christian Ministries, 2337 Clearfield St., Bishop John L. Harris, pastor, Apostle Brenda Conyers officiating. Interment will be at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Brunswick Co. After 10 a.m. Monday, remains will rest in the above named church until hour of service.
