Charles Franklin "Red" Lyons

Charles Franklin "Red" Lyons, 69, of Rural Retreat, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Vernon Cook officiating. Interment will be in the Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clara Earles Lyons.

Survivors include by his very special friend, Shirley Bartleson of Rural Retreat, Va.; special friends, William and Christine Bartleson, and Russell Ridenour, all of Toledo, Ohio; a sister, Della Corvin of Marion, Va.; and several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

William Sevier Trinkle

William Sevier Trinkle of Roanoke, Va., died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002. A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, Roanoke, Va.

He was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Wytheville, Va., a son of the late former Virginia Gov. E. Lee Trinkle and the late Helen Sexton Trinkle. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Hampden-Sydney College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific and retired from the Naval Reserve with the rank of lieutenant commander.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, E. Lee Trinkle Jr. and James Lewis Trinkle.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia Snead Trinkle of Roanoke, Va.; three sons and daughter-in-law, William S. Jr. and Anne Caldwell Trinkle, Thomas C. Trinkle and Stuart K. Trinkle; one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia Trinkle and William P. Vinyard; three grandchildren, Sarah Trinkle Caviness, William Taylor Trinkle and Christopher David Quick; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Sue Trinkle Stroud; and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George M. and Kitty Snead of Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Lee Trinkle and Helen Ball Sexton Trinkle Professorship Fund, P.O. Box 637, Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden-Sydney, VA 23943.

Norma Jean Jones

Norma Jean Jones, 62, of Wytheville, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Robert Billingsley officiating.

She was born Sept. 14, 1940, in Wythe County, Va., a daughter of the late Orbin and Lillian Manuel Miller.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny S. Jones of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, John N. and Ruby Jones of Mulberry, Fla.; two special first cousins, Barbara Akers of Wytheville, Va. and Elwood Safewright of Wytheville, Va.; and several step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Hubert L. Kincer

Hubert L. "Jelly" Kincer, 87, of Crockett, Va., died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will be in the Mt. Ephriam United Methodist Church cemetery, Wythe County, Va.

He was the son of the late Christopher C. and Mary Crigger Kincer. He was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dix Kincer; a son, Robert Dix Kincer; and a sister, Christine Wilkerson.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Faye and James W. Brown of Rural Retreat, Va., Wanda Leon Hall of Crockett, Va., Donna Jean and Bill Lethco of Wytheville, Va., and Norma Sue "Hoppy" and Richard Linkous of Wytheville, Va.; two sisters, Vivian Catron of Wytheville, Va., and Mabel Spraker of Gathersburg, Md.; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 27, from noon until 1 p.m. (service time) at the Grubb Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Hurt Manuel

Elizabeth Hurt Manuel, 74, of Wytheville, Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will be in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va. She was the daughter of the late William and Lauria Dillow Hurt and was retired from Alco Controls.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary L. and Rhonda Manuel of Waynesboro, Va., and Boo and Robin Manuel of Hermitage, Tenn.; two sisters, Henrietta Price of Wytheville, Va., and Patricia Wilkinson of Virginia; four grandchildren, Justin Manuel, Danny Manuel, April Manuel and Preston Manuel; and several nieces, nephews, special sister-in-law and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wythe County Rescue Squad.

Dorothy K. Wyrick

Dorothy K. Wyrick, 74, of Rural Retreat, Va., died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in the Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church, Rural Retreat, Va., with the Rev. Roger Crigger officiating. Entombment will be in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat, Va.

She was born in Wythe County, Va. She was a member of the Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harold L. Wyrick, in April 2001; her parents, Claude F. Catron and Elizabeth Sult; and a brother, Claude F. Catron Jr.

Survivors include three children and a son-in-law, Peggy and Cal Callaway of Oregon, Wis., Linda Haine and special friend, Arnold Angeloni, of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Rocky Wyrick of Rural Retreat, Va.; seven grandchildren and spouses, Joey and Matt Bunbury of Madison, Wis., Jason Olson of Los Angeles, Calif., Alexandra Haine of New Brighton, Minn., Ashley and David Wong of Maple Grove, Minn., Travis Wyrick of Rural Retreat, Va., Wesley Haine of River Falls, Wis., and Jessica and Joseph Doermann of Madison, Wis.; one great-grandchild, Trevor Wong of Maple Grove, Minn.; three sisters, Claudean Horne and Mary Gallimore, both of Bristol, Va., and Ginny Bowles of Rural Retreat, Va.; one brother and sister-in-law, Hughie and Jimi Catron of Carmichael, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to Asbury Center at Birdmont for a new hospice room; or to the Helping Hands, c/o Rural Retreat Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va., or at the residence at any time.

Rouser G. Snodgrass

Rouser G. "R.G." Snodgrass, 87, of Wytheville, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Lexington, Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, at noon at Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Charles McMillan officiating. Entombment will be in the Cunningham Memorial Park Mausoleum, St. Albans, W.Va.

He was born in Kanawha County, W.Va., a son of the late Perry and Ada Wiblin Snodgrass. He was a member of the Wytheville Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Gideons International, the Masonic Lodge, A.F.&A.M.; , the AARP, the Full Gospel Business Men's Association and the United Commercial Travelers. He also worked with the Lord's Storehouse in Wytheville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Louise Jeffries Snodgrass; two sisters, Lynn Grey and Gertrude Ward.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Ann Lisa and Gary Lewis of Douglasville, Ga.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Harold G. and Carol Snodgrass of Buena Vista, Va., Stephen P. and Sue Snodgrass of Concord, Ohio, and John P. and Cynde Snodgrass of Farmington, Ohio; two sisters, Rhoda May Asbury of Marmet, W.Va., and Vallie Mitchell of Dunbar, W.Va.; special friends, Ken Baker, Shirley Smith, Ralph Scott and Danny Montgomery; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Peggy Jane Bralley Johnson

Peggy Jane Bralley Johnson, 66, of Austinville, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, in the Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willard Eversole officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va.

She was born in Wythe County, Va., on Oct. 16, 1936, a daughter of the late George Buford and Mary Walk Bralley. She taught school in the Wythe County School system and was retired from the Jefferson Mills Company as payroll clerk and data processor. She was a member of Austinville Assembly of God Church where she served as a member of the board and taught children's class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hudson Johnson; two sisters, Dorothy Goodman and Thelma Bralley; and a brother, Gene Bralley.

Survivors include one son, G.B. Johnson of Austinville, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, Moyer C. and Anna Bralley of Austinville, Va.; a special cousin, Marie Bralley of Austinville, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Elmer Shell Stuart

Elmer Shell "Bub" Stuart, 72, of Ceres, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Wythe County Community Hospital, Wytheville, Va.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, Va., with the Rev. Tom Oliphant and Pastor Jim Conley officiating. Interment was private.

He was born Oct. 27, 1930, at Mechanicsburg, Va., a son of the late Ed and Reba Melvin Stuart. He was a past governor of the Ceres Ruritan Club and a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dare Neel Stuart of Ceres, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Tamela Stuart of Mechanicsburg, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Judi K. Stuart and Stan Wellford of Mechanicsville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Clara Stuart of Ashland, Va.; a sister, Nell S. Morehead of Mechanicsburg, Va.; a sister-in-law, Shirley N. Repass of Wytheville, Va.; three grandchildren, Hunter Stuart, Kendell Stuart and Sarah Wellford; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Betsy Simmerman Selfe

Betsy Simmerman Selfe, 34, of Barren Springs, Va., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Dwight Haynes officiating. Interment will be held at the Bethany United Methodist Church cemetery, Austinville, Va.

She was born Dec. 22, 1967, in Radford, Va. She was a 1986 graduate of Pulaski County High School and a graduate of New River Community College. She was employed in the lap line at New River Inergetics of Radford, Va.

Survivors include a son, Brandon Lee Arnold of Barren Springs, Va.; two daughters, Laura Beth Adkins of Barren Springs, Va. and Mattie Donielle Selfe of Christiansburg, Va.; her parents, William David and Betty Lois Pennington Simmerman of Barren Springs, Va.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Billie S. Owens, Penny and Timothy Dunford, all of Barren Springs, Va., and Rita and Ricky Boyd of Willis, Va.; two nephews, John David Dunford and Tyler Boyd; two nieces, Summer Dunford and Amy Boyd; special friends, Scott Taylor and his daughter Alex of Pulaski, Va.; and other relatives and friends.

William Franklin "Billy" Collins Jr.

William Franklin "Billy" Collins Jr., 35, of Max Meadows, Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. at the West End cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Ratcliffe Collins of Max Meadows, Va.; a daughter, Amada Lee Collins of Max Meadows, Va.; a son, William Matthew Collins of Max Meadows, Va.; his parents, William "Duke" Sr. and Nina Faye Graybeal Collins of Max Meadows, Va.; paternal grandmother, Roberta Collins of Wytheville, Va.; maternal grandmother, Neoma Graybeal of Max Meadows, Va.; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Ted Jackson of Max Meadows, Va.; one niece, Emily Jackson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.

Freda Mae Barbery, 74, of Rural Retreat, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in the Pulaski Community Hospital, Pulaski, Va.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. at the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat, Va.

She is survived by one sister, Marcella Woods of Dade City, Fla.; three brothers, James Barbery, Harold Barbery and George Barbery, all of Washington Court House, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit Saturday, Sept. 28, from noon until 1 p.m. (service time) at the Lindsey Funeral Home.
