Frank B. Myer Jr., 82, of Sarasota, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Sarasota, Fla.

Funeral services and burial were held in Florida.

He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Marilyn and Paul E. Crisp Jr. of Rural Retreat, and Marlene Reid of Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Hawkins Funeral Home & Crematorium, Sarasota, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.

Iris June Pennington

Iris June Pennington, 72, of Walkersville, Md., formerly of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2002, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. at Jubilee Baptist Church, Wytheville, with the Rev. Kelly Marshall officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery, Bastian.

Born Jan. 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Bailey Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jubilee Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Pennington.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Tena Pennington of Walkersville, Md.; two grandchildren, Heather Pennington and Hannah Pennington, both of Walkersville, Md.; and a brother, C.E. Thomas Jr. of Bastian.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bland Funeral Chapel, Bland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784; or Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.

Edna L. Ashby

Edna L. Ashby, 88, of St. Leonard, Md., died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, in the Calvert County Nursing Center.

Interment will be in Asbury cemetery, Barstow, Md., at a later date.

She worked as a nursing assistant at Calvert House and Calvert County Nursing Center where she later resided until her death. She was a member of Full Gospel Assembly of God Church where he had served as Sunday teacher and participated in Women’s Ministries.

She was preceded in death by her father, Cummins Ashby; her mother, Callie Ashby; a brother, John Ashby; and three sisters, Theo Ashby, Lula Pruitt and Ruby Parrott.

Survivors include a sister, June Bowen; and nieces and nephews from Maryland and Virginia.

Rausch Funeral Home P.A. in Port Republic, Md., is in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Eads Mays

Alice Eads Mays, 93, of Wytheville, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, in Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Wytheville Baptist Church with Dr. Primitivo Delgado officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Monta Vista Park cemetery in Princeton, W.Va.

She was born in Mt. Carbon, W.Va., a daughter of the late William A. and Kate Woodrum Eads. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bluefield, W.Va., and after moving to Wytheville in 1991, she became a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald J. Mays; seven brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mark Bloomfield of Wytheville, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Harriett Mays of Aylett, Va.; four grandchildren and spouses, Jody and Sherrie Bloomfield of Winchester, Va., Kevin and Allison Bloomfield of Roanoke, Va., Kristin Bloomfield of Salem, Va., and Keith Mays of Aylett, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Trey Bloomfield, Madison Bloomfield and Campbell Bloomfield.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. (service time) in the parlor of Wytheville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the American Heart Association or the Wytheville Baptist Church.

Addie Childress Rudder

Addie Childress Rudder, 79, of Rocky Gap, Va., died Wednesday, March 13, 2002.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at the Rose Hill cemetery in Bastian, Va., with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery.

Born in Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Delilah Igo Childress. She was a homemaker and artist.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harry T. Rudder Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Harry T. Rudder Sr. of Bland, Va.; three nephews, David Akers of Rocky Gap, Va., Jesse Rudder of Bland, Va., and Scott Rogers of Rocky Gap, Va.; four nieces and their spouses, Deborah and Jerry Harman of Bastian, Va., Laurissa Akers of Rocky Gap, Va., Mary and Dave Harless of Bastian, Va., Cathy and Robbie Williams of Bastian, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Nina Childress of North Carolina, Eunice Childress of Bastian, Va., and Lucy Rudder of Bland, Va.; a special friend and caregiver, Sarah Rogers of Rocky Gap, Va.; and many friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va.; or at the home of her sister-in-law, Lucy Rudder, in Bland, Va.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bland County Rescue Squad.

Margaret Ward Cassidy

Margaret Ward Cassidy, 76, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Graveside service was held Monday, Oct. 4, at St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery conducted by the Rev. Eugene Riley.

She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel Simmerman Ward.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan Cassidy.

Survivors include a sister, Ethel Mae McMillian of Baltimore, Md.; four brothers, Harvey Ward of Baltimore, Md., Elmo Ward of Delaware, Frank Ward of Tennessee, and Earnest Ward of Florida; a niece, Karen Cosentino of Baltimore, Md.; one brother-in-law, Herbert Reichenbach of Baltimore; one cousin, Betty Jean Simmerman of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

Lula Grace Musser Fuller

Lula Grace Musser Fuller, 86, of Louisa, Va., formerly of Wythe County, Va., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at Gilboa Christian Church, Coocoo, Va., and graveside service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery in Rural Retreat, Va.

She was a member of Gilboa Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Fuller Sr.; a daughter, Betty Ann Hollis; and a grandson, Gregory Sprouse.

Survivors include her sons, the Rev. Harold F. Fuller Jr. of Raphine, Va., and M. Douglas Fuller of Mineral, Va.; two brothers, Donald Musser of Louisa, Va., and Fred Musser of Wytheville, Va.; a sister, Margaret Umbarger of Wytheville, Va.; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, Va.

Nettie Fowlkes Chrisley

Nettie Fowlkes "Dolly" Chrisley, 71, of Pulaski, died Monday, April 19, 1999, in the Pulaski Health Care Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Cope officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen cemetery, Wythe County.

She was born in Richmond on Dec. 19, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Clarence Fowlkes and Grace F. O'Dell. She was a retired employee of Virginia Maid Hosiery Mill, Pulaski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest R. Chrisley; and three brothers, Robert Fowlkes, Warren Fowlkes, and Curtis Fowlkes.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Rhonda Chrisley of Dublin, and Wayne and Elsie Chrisley of Lincolnton, N.C.; three sisters, Eva Kriedell of New Mexico, Helen Manuel of Pulaski, and Mildred Shelton of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Richard Fowlkes of Pulaski, and William Fowlkes of Max Meadows; one granddaughter, Nicole Berry of Waynesboro; and one great-grandchild.

Stevens Funeral Home in Pulaski was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles M. Havens

Charles M. "Don" Havens, 67, of Wytheville, Va., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke, Va.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.

He was born in Wythe County, Va. He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ovella Brackens Havens; and a brother Robert Wayne "Joe" Havens.

Survivors include two daughters, Rene Sue Northcutt of Peoria, Ariz., and Ashley Havens of Wytheville, Va.; two sons, Charles M. Havens II of Arizona, and Joshua Havens of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Donald Dix, and Patricia and Malcolm Jackson, all of Wytheville, Va.; six brothers and sisters-in-law, William "Bill" and Mary Havens of Wytheville, Va., Randolph "Speck" and Gladys Havens of Crockett, Va., Philip "Babe" and Pam Havens of Wytheville, Va., Roy "Roger" and Donna Havens of Statesville, N.C., Gary and Edna Havens of Wytheville, Va., and David "Toby" and Donna Havens of Tazewell, Va.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. (service time) at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the residence of Patricia and Malcolm Jackson at any time.

Mary Edith Cowan

Mary Edith Cowan, 82, of Morristown, Tenn., died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Morristown Hamblen Healthcare System.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 18, at 8 p.m. at Westside Chapel with the Rev. Garland James and the Rev. John Neese officiating. Graveside services were held Monday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

She was a member of Panther Springs United Methodist Church. She was born Aug. 4, 1916, to Guy S. and Sophia Victoria Pruitt Neese in Wytheville.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Earnest, Bruce, Roy and Dewey.

Survivors include her husband, Claude William Cowan; two sons and daughters-in-law, William "Sonny" and Kathryn Cowan of Morristown, Tenn., Kenneth and Sue Cowan of Morristown, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Cowan and Stanley Snowden of Maryville, Tenn.; two sisters, Thelma Garland and Oneida Garland, both of Wytheville; two brothers, Guy S. Neese Jr. of Blountville, Tenn., and Raymond Neese of Roanoke; six grandchildren, Tammy Sutton of Florida, Douglas Cowan of Morristown, Tenn., Angela Snowden of Maryville, Tenn., Tim Snowden of the U.S. Navy, Brian Cowan of Ohio, Mark Cowan and Aaron Cowan, both of Morristown, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren, Braden Sutton and Emmalee Sutton, both of Florida, Landen Hartsoe of Mississippi, Tyrus Cowan and Grayson Cowan, both of Morristown, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia Farmer Moore

Patricia Farmer Moore, 63, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at her residence.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 24, at 8 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Marjorie Atkins of Dublin.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

Florene Spence Lindamood

Florene Spence Lindamood, 93, of Bastian, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel, Bland, Va., with the Rev. Doug Hyndrich and the Rev. Allen Ashworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Bland cemetery, Bland, Va.

She was born in Bland County, Va. She was a member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church and had cooked for the Boy Scouts of Camp Roland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Maxcil Lindamood; her parents, Thomas G. and Margaret Tickle Dillow; and a daughter, Barbara Lindamood.

Survivor include four daughters and a son-in-law, Maretta and Otho Looney, Helen Carter and Annette Kidd, all of Bastian, Va., and Margaret Blankenship of Narrows, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Joyce Lindamood of Bland, Va.; two sisters, Willis Chandler of Kegley Manor Nursing Home, Bastian, Va., and Virginia Tickle of Bland, Va.; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Highland Funeral Service Bland Chapel.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Kegley Manor Nursing Home, Route 1 Box 105, Bastian, VA 24314.
