Ella Jane Williams Semones, 95, of Wytheville, died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997, in Wytheville.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Oscar "Sonny" Ayers officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

She was born in Nebo, a daughter of the late Charles Stuart and Octavia Cassell Williams. She was a member of the Wytheville Church of God of Prophecy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Guy Semones; and a son, Jack W. Semones.

Survivors include two sons and three daughters-in-law, Jason and Louise Semones of Etowah, N.C., Jerry and Delores Semones of Jarratt, and Ramona Alderman Semones of Atlanta, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Steven Semones, Stanford Semones, Katrina Semones, Angela Adams, Sarah Semones, Mary Pratt, David G. Semones, Julie Semones, and Brent Semones; four great-grandchildren, Logan Dean Adams, John David Semones, Mary Katherine Pratt, and Katherine Elizabeth Semones; one sister, Blanche W. Daugherty of Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.

Emory Lane Talbert

Emory Lane Talbert, 76, of Mechanicsburg, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, in St. Lukes Hospital, Bluefield, W.Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate with the Rev. Jerry Long, Rev. DeWayne Martin, and Rev. Kenneth Alley officiating. Burial in the Mechanicsburg cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

He was born Dec. 30, 1920, at White Gate a son of the late Ribble Ellic and Elizabeth Ann Lane Talbert.

He is survived by his wife, Loraine Chewning Talbert of Mechanicsburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Janet Talbert of Craigsville; one brother, Paris W. Talbert Sr. of White Gate; five sisters, Martha Sheppard of Dublin, Mary Sink, Annie Sink, Edith Nicewander, and Frances Stevens, all of White Gate; a special sister-in-law, Nellie Lou Pruett of Mechanicsburg; four grandchildren, Tonya Talbert, Melanie McGhee, Travis Talbert, and Todd Talbert; and two step-grandchildren, Ginger McClain, and Timmy Kehrer.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Mechanicsburg cemetery Fund or the Bland Rescue Squad.

A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Lee Ayers Jr.

Robert Lee "Junior" Ayers Jr., 54, of Pulaski, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in the Lewis Gale Hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Rocky Dalton officiating. Graveside services and interment were held Friday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Robert Lee and Gethel Moles Ayers Sr.

He is survived by three sisters, Mary Chapell of Martinsville, Joanna Boulett of Middleburg, Fla., and Glenna Mae Blackwell of Max Meadows; three brothers, Sonny Ayers of Draper, Pete Ayers of Max Meadows, and Doug Ayers of Radford; his ex-wife, Marge Dyke of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

James Wayne Coble

James Wayne Coble, 30, of Dangerfield Road, Clinton, Md., formerly of Pulaski, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Oakwood cemetery in Pulaski, with the Rev. Norman Wilhoit officiating.

He was born on Aug. 26, 1966, in Nha-Trang, Vietnam. He was a graduate of Surratsville High School, Class of 1984. He was an employee of the Master Security Company.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Alonzy Coble, Khuyen T. Nguyen and Ba. T. Nguyen.

Survivors include his parents, Malcolm E. and Ngoe-Luong Nguyen Coble of Clinton, Md.; a sister, Elizabeth Ngoe Coble of College Park, Md.; two brothers, Thanh V. Coble of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a grandmother, Nellie Coble of Wytheville.

Brenda Alice Alderman Cregger

Brenda Alice Alderman Cregger, 39, of Hudson Drive, Dublin, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, in the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Cancer Center in Roanoke after fighting a seven-month battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2:30 p.m. at the Bob White Blvd. Church of God, Pulaski, with the Pastor Robert E. Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Alderman Family cemetery, Barren Springs.

She is the daughter of Alice Rebecca McKay Alderman French and the late Robert Thomas Alderman. She was a member of the Bob White Boulevard Church of God in Pulaski, and was a secretary with the American Electric Power Company, Pulaski, with 20 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Iva Newcomb McKay; and paternal grandparents, Oscar Heath and Edna Hodge Alderman.

Survivors include her husband, Teddy Glenn Cregger of Dublin; three daughters, Alyson Lorraine "Lori" Cregger, Teddie Miranda Cregger, and Kasandra "Kasey" Nicole Cregger, all of the home; her mother, Alice Rebecca McKay Alderman French of Pulaski; stepfather, Franklin D. French of Pulaski; maternal grandfather, Rev. J.L. McKay of Meherrian; one sister, Rebecca "Becky" Alderman of Pulaski; and two brothers, Thomas Adam Alderman of Pulaski, and Allen Robert Alderman of Piney.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski, or any time at the home on Hudson Drive, Dublin.

Mamie Wright Riggins Hall

Mamie Wright Riggins Hall, 91, of Route 5, Wytheville, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in the Malin Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Dan Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home, or at the residence of her sister, Hazel Lawson, or her brother, Glenn Wright, at any time.

The family suggest that those who prefer may make memorials to the Joy Ranch, P.O. Box 727, Hillsville, Va. 24343.

Alfred Cleon Moore

Alfred Cleon Moore, 74, of Brookhaven, Miss., died of cancer on Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at the Lakeview Nursing Center, Gulfport, Miss.

He was born June 1, 1922, in Centreville, Miss., as the only child of Alfred C. Moore and Eleanor Ford Moore. He spent his infant years in Wytheville, but grew up in Centreville, Miss., where he graduated from William Winans High School in 1940. He was an independent oil and gas wildcatter. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 through 1946, and in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1946 through 1953. He served during World War II. He was a resident of Bookhaven, Miss., from 1980 to 1997; Birmingham, Mich., from 1952 to 1980; and Centreville, Miss., from 1922 to 1944.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Childs Nicol Moore on Nov. 3, 1978; his mother, Eleanor Ford Moore on Aug. 13, 1980; and his father, Alfred Cleon Moore on April 25, 1928.

Survivors include Alfred Cleon Moore Jr. of Bridgewater, and Dwight McClintock "Clint" Moore of Houston, Texas.

Upon his request, he asked that any remembrances be made to the Congressional Seminar Scholarship Program of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, at 2715 Q Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007.

Velma McKinney Sexton

Velma McKinney Sexton, 66, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Price Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C. Eugene Meek officiating. Interment was in the Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.

She was born in Wythe County, Oct. 31, 1930, to the late Fred Madison and Nanna Saferight McKinney.

She is survived by her companion of 25 years, Bobby Reece; two daughters, Rebecca Reece of Manassas Park, and Wanda Gray of Manassas; four sons, Ray Sexton of Edenburg, Doug Sexton of Fort Valley, Harold Sexton Jr. of Colonial Beach, and James Sexton of Manassas; three brothers, Ira M. McKinney of Marion, Jean McKinney of Alexandria, and Dick McKinney of Nokesville; seven sisters, Elsie Hegger of Doniphan, Mo., Ella Roberts of Phoenix, Ariz., Iris Rich of Galax, Mary Miller of Bristol, Mozelle Eversole, Naomi King, both of Wytheville, and Stella Cox of Rural Retreat; and 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Price Funeral Home in Manassas was in charge of the arrangements.

Connie Lee Brackens

Connie Lee Brackens, 40, of Route 4, Wytheville, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, in the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with Pastor Joe Shumate officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Gail Brackens Bascope.

Survivors include her parents, Herman W. Sr. and Mary Brackens of Wytheville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman W. Jr. and Eileen Brackens of Alexandria, George "Danny" and Sarah Brackens of Bland, and Dale and Donna Brackens of Wytheville; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Harvey Ryder of Culpeper, Susan and William Runaldue of Wytheville, Jane Ball of Daytona, Fla., Carol and Sammy Houchins of Fort Chiswell, and Hugo Bascope of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews, William Jackson of Culpeper, Toni Upton of Brightwood, Terri Smoot of Ruckersville, Ginger Sue Houchins of Fort Chiswell, Jennifer Ball of Daytona, Fla., Mary Alice B. Turpin of Wytheville, Tammy Sandusky of Daytona, Fla., Mark Bascope of Wytheville, Mathew Brackens, Robert Brackens, both of Alexandria, Kevin Brackens of Arlington, and Brian Ball of Daytona, Fla.; and five great-nieces and nephews and five step-nieces and nephews.

Arnold E. Burnette

Arnold E. Burnette, 47, of Stuart, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. at Mayberry Presbyterian Church with Terry Keffer officiating.

He was born in Patrick County on March 20, 1949.

He is survived by two daughters, Sabrina Stanley of Hillsville, and Heather Burnette of Rogersville, Tenn.; two sons, Shane Burnette of Willis and Lee Burnette of Rogersville, Tenn.; five sisters, Bernise Doran of Salem, Charlotte White of Salem, Launia Marshal of Mt. Airy, N.C., Irene McGrady of Laurel Fork, and Chrystal Quesenberry of Meadows of Dan; a brother, Larry Burnette of Meadows of Dan; a special friend, Judy Fain of Stuart; and five grandchildren.

Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville was in charge of the arrangements.

James Wayne Coble

Ora Lee Parker Folden

Ora Lee Parker Folden, 80, of Pulaski, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 1997, in the Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel in Pulaski with the Rev. Hershey J. Longnecker officiating. Interment followed in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.

Born Feb. 27, 1916, in Teas, she was a daughter of the late George Alexandria Parker and Effie Catherine Phillippi Parker. She was a member of the Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church and was a retired nurses aide from Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lee Folden Sr.; and a number of sisters and brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Phyllis Folden) King of Pulaski, and Mrs. Thomas "Tom" (Linda Folden) Crockett of Wytheville; one son, Clarence Lee "C.L." Folden Jr. of Barren Springs; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Virgie Abell of Arlington, Mildred Rouse of Glade Spring, Viola Adams of Powell, Tenn., and Elenor Gentry of Kingsport, Tenn.; two brothers, Herbert Parker Tazewell, Tenn., and Robert Parker of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a special friend, Minnie King of Pulaski.

Ruth M. McPherson

Ruth M. McPherson, 90, of Johnson City, Tenn., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997, at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn.

She was a Bland County native and had lived in Johnson City, Tenn., most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Hoge and Victoria Wolford McNiel. She received her bachelor of science and master's degrees at East Tennessee State Teachers College. She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught chemistry and physics at Science Hill High School. She was member of the Johnson City Monday Club, the Tennessee Association of Retired Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she was a member of the Loyal Daughters Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Elliot McPherson, in 1963; and one brother.

Survivors include one son, James Thomas "J.T" McPherson of Johnson City, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Tom McPherson, Lucy Crain, both of Johnson City, Tenn., Mary Nell McPherson of Charlotte, N.C., Bill McPherson of Kodak, Tenn., Joe McPherson, and Beth McPherson, both of Jonesborough, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren, and two nephews.
