Edward Parker McGehee Jr.

Edward Parker McGehee Jr., 75, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Doctor's Hospital in Richmond after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 28, at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home conducted by Dr. Steve Hartman. Interment was at the Byrd Presbyterian Church cemetery in Goochland County.

A native of Richmond, he was the son of the late Edward Parker and Alice Pace McGehee. He graduated from the University of Richmond and was a senior partner in the law firm of Williams and McGehee. He was active in a number of civic and professional organizations in Richmond. As a member of the Third Presbyterian Church of Richmond, he served as deacon and was a member of the endowment committee. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Edward Tarter McGehee.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Hope Davidson Tarter McGehee, formerly of Wytheville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Alice McGehee and Robert Soto of Clarmont, Calif., and Jane McGehee and Scott Lowry of Mechanicsville; six grandchildren; three sisters- and brothers-in-law, Virginia Tarter and John H. Watts Jr. of Wytheville, Katherine H. Tarter of Annapolis, Md., and Jean Tarter and Alex M. Davis of Pearisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends who wish to do so may make contributions to the Third Presbyterian Church Endowment Corp., 600 Forest Avenue, Richmond, VA 23294.

Bennett Funeral Home in Glen Allen was in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Collier Mustard

Violet Collier Mustard, 78, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin, conducted by Dr. Charles Burnett.

She was the widow of Roland Mustard. She was a member of the Wythe-Grey Chapter of the U.D.C. and the Wilderness Road D.A.R.

She is survived by one son, J.R. "James" Mustard of Houston, Texas; a special friend, Mariam R. Poole of Wytheville; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.

The Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

John H. Morrill II

Rear Admiral John H. Morrill II (Ret.), 94, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997.

Burial services will be held in the Pine Grove cemetery, Grafton, N.H. at a later date with full military honors.

He was born Jan. 7, 1903, in Miller, S.D., and had lived in Grafton, N.H., before moving to Gulf Breeze, Fla., in 1975 and had a summer home in Bland. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1955. He was a holder of the Navy Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge from the U.S. Army American Defense Service, Asiatic-Pacific Defense, Philippine Defense and National Defense Service. He served 31 years active service and four years in the U.S. Naval Academy and was the author of two books "South from Corregidor" in 1943, and "The Cincinnati" in 1993. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Lapan Morrill.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Jill Morrill of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Patricia Shaw of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Bland; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John (Janet) Morrill III; and six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Martin Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, Fla. is in charge of the arrangements.

Geneva Aline Stowers Buchanan

Geneva Aline Stowers Buchanan, 68, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Gap United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Wilson and the Rev. Lee Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield.

She was born in Bluefield, W.Va., and retired from the Radford Arsenal after 18 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rocky Gap.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard James Stowers; and a brother, Harless Stowers.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur V. "Buck" Buchanan of Wytheville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda G. and Charles Eversole of Pulaski, and Linda K. and Jimmy Moses of Rocky Gap; two sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. and Rita Sargent of Bland, and Keith D. Sargent of Rocky Gap; a stepdaughter and spouse, Joann and Tommy Bryant of Courtland; her mother, Ruby Wiley Stowers of Rocky Gap; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and John D. Tolbert of Rocky Gap; a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard "Buddy" and Gerri Stowers of Rocky Gap; seven grandchildren, Becky Whittimore, Jason Bryant, Scott Moses, Steven Moses, Penny Moses, Courtney Sargent and Natasha Sargent, all of Rocky Gap; three great-grandchildren, Karly Moses, Zachary Moses, and Hannah Moses, all of Rocky Gap; and special friends, J.D. and Mary Hall and Collene Dunford, all of Wytheville.

Emma Ruth Sayers Delp

Emma Ruth Sayers Delp, 73, of Galax, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, in the Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Odd Fellows cemetery in Ivanhoe.

She was born in Pulaski on Jan. 28, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin Blair and Emma Jane Manuel Sayers.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Spraker Leonard and Henry P. Leonard Jr.; two sisters, Kate Allen White of Pulaski, and Ann Akers of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, Buster Sayers of Ivanhoe; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rex Frost, and DeAnna and Billy Maines, all of Galax.

Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax was in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Campbell Dunford

Louise Campbell Dunford, 76, of Wytheville, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sonny Ayers, the Rev. Randolph Eversole and the Rev. Fred Fisher officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Ivanhoe.

She was born in Cripple Creek, a daughter of the late Charlie R. and Ella Fay Pack Campbell. She was a member of the Wytheville Church of God of Prophecy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Fred R. Dunford; and two brothers, Paul Campbell, and Donald Campbell.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Bridgett Kline of Summerville, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Daniel Hawks of Draper; one stepson and spouse, Barnett and Faye Dunford of Narrows; two stepdaughters and spouses, Freda and Thomas McCroskey of Tazewell, and Marlene and Dana Jonas of Wytheville; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harlan and Betty Campbell of Greensboro, N.C., and Charles Hicks and Wilma Campbell of Ivanhoe; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Jack Stoots of Pulaski, Juanita and Sloan Gibson of Kirkland, Wash., Marie and Ted Wojciechowski of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Edna and Bob Bond of Kernersville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Wytheville Church of God of Prophecy Mission Fund.

Abner Bruce Graham Sr.

Abner Bruce Graham Sr., 86, of Max Meadows, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, in the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service were held Friday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. at the Max Meadows United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Lindamood and the Rev. George Pearson officiating. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

He was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Pulaski County, the son of the late John Andrew and Luemma Dean Graham and was a member of the Max Meadows United Methodist Church. He was retired from Klopman Mills.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joseph Graham Aker.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Adams Graham of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Bob Collins in Roanoke, and Debby and Wayne Robinson of Herndon; a son and daughter-in-law, Abner Jr. and Sarah Graham of Wytheville; a sister, Della Houseman of Max Meadows; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Max Meadows United Methodist Church.

Arnold Russell McPeak

Arnold Russell McPeak, 80, of the Crandon Community in Bland County, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, in Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church with the Rev. E.C. Redmond officiating. Burial was in the Mechanicsburg cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

He was born Jan. 27, 1927, in Pulaski County, the son of the late Ephrain Lundia and Ida May Carroll McPeak. He was retired from Burlington Industries after 35 years of service and was a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church for 61 years.

He is survived by his wife, Lelia Patton McPeak of Bland; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Maydell McPeak of White Gate, Barry and Gayle McPeak of Bland and Nathan and Thelma McPeak of Bland; three sisters, Bessie Nelson and Carrie Patton, both of Pulaski, and Vena Hughes of Crossville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home in White Gate was in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Collier Mustard

Violet Collier Mustard, 78, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Highland Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin, conducted by Dr. Charles Burnett.

She was the widow of Roland Mustard. She was a member of the Wythe-Grey Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Wilderness Road Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by one son, J.R. "James" Mustard of Houston, Texas; a special friend, Miriam R. Poole of Wytheville; and two grandchildren.

Raymond Lee Waddle

Raymond Lee "Ray" Waddle, 53, of Galax, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Don Fox officiating. Interment will be in the Waddle Family cemetery in Bland.

He was born in Bland County on Oct. 17, 1944.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Lawrence and Claudene Farmer Waddle.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda D. Waddle of the home; a daughter, Lori W. Coleman of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Melissa Waddle of Galax; a brother, James L. Waddle of Dublin; and three grandchildren, Whitney Coleman, Amber Waddle and Joshua Waddle.

John J. Grubb

John J. Grubb, 78, of Route 4, Wytheville, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Berea Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Gerald Etter and the Rev. Jerry Bell. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

He was retired from Wythe County Schools. He was the son of the late Walter and Georgia Etter Grubb.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dale Grubb; six brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Frances K. Grubb of Wytheville; six daughters, Joyce "Tiny" Hawkins and Sandra Stroupe, both of Wytheville, Wanda Foley of Max Meadows, Patty Cox, Martha Copenhaver and Tammy Grubb, all of Wytheville; two sons, John R. Grubb and Ronald Grubb, both of Wytheville; two sisters, Dollie Robinson and Erma Frye, both of Wytheville; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Those who wish to do so may make donations to the Berea Christian Church.

Thelma Reedy Heldreth

Thelma Reedy Heldreth, 82, of Wytheville, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Stephen Tilley and Dr. William Rodgers.

She was the widow of James R. Heldreth.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Louie Watson of Max Meadows, Barbara and Ollie Farnam of Vinton, and Debra and Michael Spangler of Marion; one son, Richard Heldreth of Marion; a brother, Charles Reedy of Manassas; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be no flowers, however, those who wish to do so may make donations to their favorite charity.
