WHITTAKER
Huck "Darrell" L. Whittaker, 54, beloved husband, father and son, of Victoria, Va., died Monday, March 4, 2002 at home. He was a retired federal fire fighter and Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his wife, Jeanene Rusak Whittaker of Victoria; daughter and son-in-law, Neena and Lee Scott of Victoria; son, (B-Bow) Darrell L. Whittaker II of Victoria; grandchildren, Savanna, Dusty, Dakota and Sorie Scott; mother, Helen Whittaker of Victoria; sisters, Boo Caudle of Dallas, N.C., Patty Simpkins of Princeton, W.Va.; brothers, Bobby Whittaker of Charlotte, N.C., Buddy Whittaker of Victoria and Michael Arthur of Victoria. A memorial potluck luncheon will be held at the VFW Hall in Victoria, Va. on March 9, 2002 from 11 a.m. until. So bring a dish and join us celebrating Huck's life. Staples Funeral Home, Victoria, in charge of arrangements.

YUNKER
Mrs. Clara Belle Yunker, 76, of Madison, Ind., died Sunday, March 3, 2002 in Richmond, Va. Mrs. Yunker is survived by a daughter, Nancy Yunker of Richmond; a sister, Betty Lou Rogers of Madison, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was a 1943 graduate of Hanover High School, and a 1947 graduate of Hanover College. She completed graduate work through Indiana University. For 33 years, Mrs. Yunker helped to shape the minds of Jefferson County, Ind. students through her work as a music teacher. She was a member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church, Hanover No. 525 OES, Phi Mu Sorority and was Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. Mrs. Yunker enjoyed flowers, music and sharing good times with her many friends. She was a member of the Madison Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association. Funeral services will be held at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home in Madison, Ind.

ADKINS
Eldridge "Moe" Adkins died August 30, 2002. He is survived by five children, Jerry Adkins, Jimmy Adkins and wife, Cheryl, Paula Nichols and husband, Ty, Butch Lafoon and wife, Pam, and Charles Lafoon; three sisters, Alice, Olive and husband, Emmitt and Tajune and husband, Richard; one brother, O.P. Adkins and wife, Flossie; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. "Moe" will be resting at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Samaria Indian Church. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation. BOTTOMS
Ruth Lee Bottoms, 75, of Richmond, died August 30, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Gloria W. Bottoms. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 12 to 2 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and where a Rosary service will commence at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Saint Benedict's Catholic Church. Interment Mount Calvary Cemetery.

COOK
Eugene "Skippy" Wellington Cook, 80, of Richmond, died August 28, 2002. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Martin Calkin; and an expected grandson, Cole Calkin. He was retired from the Henrico County Police Department and was a former resident of Oregon Hill. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Signal Hill Memorial Park mausoleum.

CRENSHAW
Michael Scott Crenshaw, 39, of Victoria, Va., died Thursday, August 29, 2002. He was a former employee with the Virginia Department of Corrections. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sammie J. Crenshaw. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Lynwood E. Crenshaw Sr. of Victoria; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda C. and Robert L. Thompson of Victoria; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lynwood E. and Joan C. Crenshaw Jr. of Roanoke, and W. David and Denise L. Crenshaw of Victoria; a stepbrother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Stacey Newton of Victoria; a stepsister and brother-in-law, Judy and Ellison Moody of Florence, South Carolina; nieces and nephews and one great-nephew. The family will receive friends Saturday (today), 7 to 9 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, Victoria. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, September 1, 4 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O.Box T, Victoria, Va. 23974.

HARRIS
James Michael (Mike) Harris, age 45, of Richmond, Va., died August 29, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth A. Harris; his sister, Bonnie Mahayni and her husband, Riad; his brother, Eugene C. Harris and his wife, Suzanne; his brother, Richard S. Harris and his wife, Karen; his nephew, Jeff; and his three nieces, Tabitha, Meredith and Sara. All are from Richmond. He will be greatly missed by his German shepherd, Danielle. Mike was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army and to have been a member of the American Legion Post 137. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Branch's Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Richmond SPCA.

HATHAWAY
Jesse Lee Hathaway Sr., 80, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2002. He was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Lee Hathaway Jr. (Bubba). He was the loving husband of Mary Louise Hathaway for 59½ years. Mr. Hathaway was a loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his six children and their spouses, Mary and Howard Grow, Sissy and Jimmy Groome, Bobby and Poochie Hathaway, Debbie and Bubba Strickland, Lisa and Kenny Tate and Stephanie Gibson; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Curtis Hathaway; and his sister, Katie Moore. Mr. Hathaway was a loyal employee for Old Dominion Leasing and Freight Line for 62 years. He was also a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopewell United Methodist Church. Remains to lie in state one hour prior. Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.

HUGHES
George W. Hughes Sr., age 85, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, August 29, 2002. He is survived by four daughters and a son, Carolyn Thomas, Kathleen Gowen, Geraldine Budasoff, Patricia Runion, George W. Hughes Jr.; one sister, Doris King; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Duffey; and his parents, Elmer and Carrie Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a lifelong member of Gethsemane Church of Christ and was a veteran of WWII. Remains rest at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2002 at the Gethsemane Church of Christ, Mechanicsville. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.

JENKINS
Dorothy Vaughan Jenkins, a resident of the Masonic Home of Virginia, died Thursday, August 29, 2002. Mrs. Jenkins was born October 5, 1919 in Beaverdam, Va., youngest daughter of the late Benjamin F. Vaughan and Mary Wickham Vaughan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Russell Jenkins Jr.; her brothers, Thurman, Benjamin and Thomas Vaughan; and her sister, Ethel Blackwell, Ester Rice and Jeanette Gardner. She was a former resident of Martinsville, where she was a member of Broad Street Christian Church, but returned to Richmond in 1997. She had retired from the State of Virginia Department of Taxation. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Jenkins Armstrong; and son-in-law, Jon of Martinsville; two grandchildren, Jon R. Armstrong Jr. and Kimberly A. Hairfield; and a great-granddaughter, Jamison M. Armstrong, all of Martinsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Saturday by Rev. Robert Mathis at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Beaverdam. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the Masonic Home of Virginia. Grace Reynolds Jeter, 87, of Richmond, died August 29, 2002. She was the widow of Clarence (Pete) Jeter and is survived by her children, William Thomas Jeter and Suzanne Jeter Piland; loving grandmother of five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. Interment Hollywood Cemetery. LEWIS
Janet Patton Lewis, age 82, of Richmond, died on Thursday, August 29, 2002. She was the daughter of the late James D. Patton Jr. and Janet Jones Patton. Mrs. Lewis was a Richmond native and attended St. Catherine's School and Thomas Jefferson High School. She was the widow of philanthropist and businessman, Lawrence Lewis Jr. Mrs. Lewis was an active volunteer throughout the Richmond area. Mrs. Lewis' philanthropic efforts concerned children's organizations and education. She and Mr. Lewis established the Flagler Home at St. Joseph's Villa, the Child Development Center, which was renamed in her honor in 1995. She was a Board member at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Theatre IV and the Flagler Foundation. She was the Chairman of Historic Garden Week of the Garden Club of Virginia and the 1992 Richmond Christmas Mother. Mrs. Lewis was also a member of the Junior League of Richmond, the Colonial Dames of America, the Country Club of Virginia, and the Stitch and Bitch Club. She is survived by her three daughters, Louise Lewis Foster of High Point, N.C., Janet Lewis Sauer and Kenan Lewis White, both of Richmond; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. A private family burial will be held in Charles City. Memorials may be made to the Flagler Home at St. Joseph's Villa or the Massey Cancer Center.

LUMPKIN
Mrs. Emma Lumpkin of Richmond departed this life August 29, 2002. Professional services provided by Crawley Funeral Home, 3810 Meadowbridge Rd. Funeral notice later.

NOEL
Everett M. Noel, 81, beloved son of the late Alice and Henry Noel of Guinea, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of many talents. There was nothing that he couldn't do. He led a remarkable life and his skill, talent and determination left his mark on all who knew him. He was a World War II veteran and had a great love and respect for his country. He drove 18 wheelers for Waite Lumber for many years. In 1977, he wrote a song, "Bring It on Home to Me Darlin", about his truck driving days. He then headed to Nashville with his guitar and recorded it. As a boy he had flying in his heart and so he became a pilot. He flew for 44 years, logging more than 20,000 hours in the sky, all accident free. He had retired from Colgan Airways, having licensed more than 8,000 pilots. His time as an FAA examiner yielded more pilots than any other examiner in the state of Virginia. He was inducted into the Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame in November of 1989. He completely restored and flew a dual wing WACO. His love of antique restoration was not limited to his planes, he also restored antique cars. His latest was a 1937 Chevrolet, restored just like the car in which he and his beloved wife had their first date. He drove it all over the country as a member of the Antique Auto Club of America. He won numerous awards and was also a member of the Fredericksburg and Olde Dominion Historic Auto Clubs, and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rachel Virginia Noel; sister, Evelyn Hawkins; two daughters, Joyce Hamrick and Sandra Noel Walker; grandchildren, DeAnna Hill, Sherril Miller, Marvin Hamrick, Clyde Hamrick II, Ronald W. Chewning, Summers Bohenstiel; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Monday, September 2, at 11 a.m. at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with the Rev. Timberlake officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice Support Care Inc., 2119 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401.

PANTHER
Noah Arnold Panther, 86, of South Hill, died Friday, August 30, 2002. He was the son of the late Joseph Henry and Carrie Lee Hall Panther and was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Annie Mae Panther. Mr. Panther is survived by his two daughters, Alice L. Reinhardt of Highland Springs and Shirley P. Odum and her husband, James of Richmond; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jessie (Jake) Robert Panther and his wife, Nellie Edmonds Panther of Union Level. Mr. Panther was a veteran of World War II, a retired communications employee at the Kennedy Space Center and a great adventurer and storyteller. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Concord Baptist Church, Chase City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church at 11422 Highway No. 47, Chase City, Va. 23924. Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
