Ernest Wade Scott

Ernest Wade Scott, 79, of Radford, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, at his home.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, with the Rev. Dewey Weaver officiating.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired plumber.

He is survived by his wife, Ina Mae Scott; two sons, Jerry Wayne Scott of Austinville, and Michael Wade Scott of Christiansburg; two daughters, Mary Lou Stillwell of Draper, and Sonja Lester of Dublin; one sister, Thelma Harrison of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 111 W. Main Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Seaver-Sanders and Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

William Howard Scott

William Howard "Bud" Scott, 77, of Wytheville, the Fairview Community, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Tommy Johnson. Interment followed in the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery.

He was retired from the New River Electric, and was the son of the late Delbert Ray and Elizabeth Richardson Scott.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie L. Scott of Wytheville; a daughter, Elaine Scott of Wytheville; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Nancy Scott, Gary and Sandy Scott, Keith and Delena Scott, and Greg and Lisa Scott, all of Wytheville; a sister, Margaret Dalton of Lynchburg; five granddaughters, Stacy, Elizabeth, Samantha, Kaitlin and Kelly; a step-granddaughter and her husband, Melaine and Frankie; and one step-great-grandson, Stephen.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church cemetery Fund or to the Wythe County Rescue Squad.

Eulaila Cora Burchett Taylor

Eulaila Cora Burchett Taylor, 79, of Ivanhoe died Saturday, Oct. 27, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tazz Reid officiating. Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery.

She was born in Wise County, a daughter of the late Hubert and Bessie Lineberry Burchett. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Della Mae Taylor; a sister, Imogene King; and a brother, Ralph Burchett.

Survivors include her husband, Buford M. Taylor of Ivanhoe; three daughters and one son-in-law, Shelva and Ralph Gravley of Ashtabula, Ohio, Anita D. Duback of North Kingsville, Ohio, and Carolyn Roberts of Galax; one son and daughter-in-law, Alger and Shirley Taylor of Fries; three sisters, Kathleen Sparks of Richmond, Inez Richardson of Draper, and Helen Waller of Pulaski; one brother, Malcolm Burchett of Dublin; and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie Pearl Ellis Thompson

Elsie Pearl Ellis Thompson, 78, of Route 1, Bland, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 1996, in the Kegley Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral chapel, with the Rev. Roy Tincher officiating. Interment will follow in the Bland cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late William J. and Lucy W. Ellis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edward Thompson.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy T. Wade of Bland; two sons, Bobby R. Thompson of Florida, and Eugene Thompson of Ordway, Colo.; three sisters, Virgie Marie Bailey of Bluefield, W.Va., Blanche Kidd of Tazewell, and Naomi Ruth Neel of Laurel, Md.; three brothers, Kenneth Ellis of Bluefield, W.Va., Clarence Ellis of Thompson, Ohio, and Ralph Ellis of Orlando, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home, Bland.

Wesley David Jennings

Wesley David Jennings, 83, of Wytheville, formerly of Schenectady, N.Y., died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996, in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at the Bond Funeral Home in Schenectady, N.Y., with Pastor Westra officiating. Interment followed in the Albany Rural cemetery in Menandes, N.Y.

He was born in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of the late David and Florence Rosenkrans Jennings. He was a retired casting design specialist with General Electric Company. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Wytheville Masonic Lodge No. 82 and the Quarter Century Club of General Electric.

He is survived by his wife, Olga Jensen Jennings of the home; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wesley Bruce and Julia Hunter Jennings of Tupper Lake, N.Y., Allen Kent and Barbara Jennings of Washington, Mich., and Robert Chandler Jennings of Cary, N.C.; one sister, Evelyn I. Brown of Schenectady, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of the local arrangements.

Wildia Faye Lyons Moore

Wildia Faye Lyons Moore, 57, of Dublin, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. from the Newbern United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barry Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Newbern cemetery.

She was born in Newbern on Jan. 29, 1939, daughter of the late Ward Henderson Lyons and Helen Cox Lyons. She was a member of the Newbern United Methodist Church, and was an LPN at Pulaski Community Hospital for a number of years.

She is survived by her husband, John Ralph Moore of Dublin; a son and daughter-in-law, John Mark and Stephanie T. Moore of Dublin; and a brother, Horace A. Lyons of Pulaski.

Mamie S. Morehead

Mamie S. Morehead, 91, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in the Maple Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ted Anders and the Rev. Frank Clifton officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late William and Annie Stower Shrader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Morehead; a son, Harold Morehead; and a sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Reba Shroute, and Inez Bellinia, both of Bluefield, W.Va.; three sons, Claude Morehead of Rocky Gap, Albert Morehead of Bluefield, W.Va., and Thomas Morehead of Alexandria; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and her stepmother, Mollie Shrader of Bland.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Bland County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 75, Bastian, Va. 24314.

George Ell Roberts

George Ell Roberts, 64, of Route 3, Wytheville, the West Piney community, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Bobby Lewis, the Rev. A.C. Ashford and the Rev. Bill Mack Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion cemetery.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Henry and Ollie Burnett Roberts and was a member of the Liberty Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva Harmon Roberts of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Kathy L. Akers of Route 3, Wytheville, and Lisa and Tracy Umberger of Wytheville; a son, Kenneth Dale Akers of Route 3, Wytheville; four sisters and brother-in-law, Janie and Paul Blair of Ivanhoe, Easter Dunford and Ruby Edmonds, both of Wytheville, and Hazel Martin of Pulaski; a brother, Howard Roberts of Max Meadows; three special sisters-in-law, Beulah McPeak, Venetta Lewis, both of Route 3, Wytheville, and Juanita Coleman of Max Meadows; and a grandson, Caleb R. Umberger.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Lead Mines Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 502, Austinville, Va. 24312.

Frances Currin Sanders

Frances Currin Sanders of Wytheville died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 1996, after a long illness.

Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. in the East End cemetery conducted by the Rev. Vaughn Hartsell.

A daughter of the late Elizabeth Graham Sanders and Edwin Hanson Sanders, she was born in Wythe County. Her family was active in farming, mining, and government. She attended Randolph-Macon Women's College and graduated from the University of Iowa. She taught at Max Meadows High School and at high schools in Eastern Virginia.

She is survived by her sister, Agnes Graham Sanders Riley of Lexington, Ky.; three nephews, Edwin Hanson Sanders III of Honolulu, Hawaii, William Parks Riley of Claremont, Calif., and Andrew Trigg Sanders Jr. of Richmond; and two nieces, Elizabeth Sanders Thomas of Atlanta, Ga., and Susan Trigg Sanders of State College Pennsylvania.

Marjorie M. Sarver

Marjorie M. Sarver, 70, of Pulaski, and Dade City, Fla., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, in a Pulaski hospital.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Church of God, Dade City, Fla. Burial will be in the Oakley cemetery, Dade City, Fla.

She was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Cairo, Ga. a daughter of the late Andrew George and Maggie Jones Hudson.

She is survived by her husband, William D. Sarver of Pulaski, and Dade City, Fla.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Roy Rogers of Dade City, Fla., Kay and Nelvin Harrell of Eagle Lake, Fla., Charlotte and Tom Kemp of Zephyrhill, Fla., Ranay and Randy Williams of Jasper, Fla.; one son and daughter-in-law, William Roger and Celine Sarver of Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters, Ann Pratt of Clewiston, Fla., and Barbara Turner of Albany, Ga.; two brothers, James G. Hudson of Ochlocknee, Ga., and Garrison Hudson of Albany, Ga.; a special nephew, Melvin Sarver of Radford; and 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several other nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate.

Sallie Marriah Sheets

Sallie Marriah Sheets, 79, of Route 2, Rural Retreat, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Hall and Frances Stowers officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

She was the widow of Oscar Sheets and a member of the Calvary Full Gospel Church.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Belle and John Hall of North Tazewell, Maxine and Fred Stowers of Chilhowie, and Hazel Gordon of Rural Retreat; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jack Sheets, and Eddie and Joyce Sheets, all of Rural Retreat; and 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Charles Richard Tomlinson

Charles Richard Tomlinson, 61, of Route 3, Wytheville, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Bakers Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Earl Hanks and the Rev. James Black officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by the 109th Quarter Master Battalion of Fort Lee, Virginia.

He was born in Ivanhoe, the son of the late Edd Early and Ina Robinson Tomlinson and was a retired staff sergeant of the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne Tomlinson, Billy Tomlinson, Edd Tomlinson and Lawrence Tomlinson.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Poole Tomlinson of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, William Lloyd and Sharon Tomlinson of Clarksville, Tenn., Charles J. and Julie Tomlinson of Austinville, Kevin Tomlinson, and Anthony Wade Tomlinson, both of Radford; two grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Tomlinson; a sister, Helen Fowler of Bluewell, W.Va.; and a brother, Allen Tomlinson of Greensboro, N.C.
