Nana Lula Rowe Corvin

Nana Lula Rowe Corvin, 88, of Route 1, Draper, died Friday, April 2, 1999, in the Columbia Pulaski Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at the Barren Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Donald Frazier and the Rev. Herman Sarver officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Christian Church cemetery.

She was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late W.H. and Betty Rowe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ribble Corvin and an infant son, Lonnie Kennedy.

Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Irene Vanover of Iaeger, W.Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Velma Kennedy of Draper; two sisters, Pearl Mahone of Richlands, and Evelyn Patricia of Maryland; one brother, Luther Rowe of Princeton, W.Va.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

D. Dean Cox

D. Dean Cox, 74, of Bastian, died Friday, April 2, 1999, in the Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at the Bastian Church of God. Interment followed in the Rosehill cemetery, Bastian.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Mike Collins of Austinville, and Lisa and Tim Martin of Wytheville; one half-son, Steve Sluss of Bastian; two brothers, Leo Cox of Bluefield, and Ralph Cox of Gloucester; a special nephew, Harlan Cox of Bastian; and two grandchildren, Jessica Collins and T.J. Martin.

Gillman Funeral Chapel in Wytheville was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Mart Davis

Clarence Mart "Dempsey" Davis, 58, of Barren Springs, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in the New River Medical Center in Radford.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at 1 p.m. in the Glenwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Stuart officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Christian Church cemetery.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late John Blain and Ila Sans Semones Davis.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carrell Chrisley Davis; and a brother, James Davis.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Cindee and Paul Marone of Chesapeake, Edye Alexander and her fiancé, Ken Phelps, of Suffolk; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Martin Brian Davis of Barren Springs, Barry Andrew and Jeanette Davis of Smithfield; three sisters, Christine Tribble of Chesapeake, Mary Sue Williams of Norfolk, and Martha Carol Lewis of Fairfax; six grandchildren, Brandon, Jeff, Jenny, Julia, Dusty and Ty; and special friends, Doug Swecker, and Sue Dicker.

The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the American Heart Foundation.

Ruby Hall Graham

Ruby Hall Graham, 93, of Hutchinson, Kan., formerly of Wythe County, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in Kansas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vaughn Earl Hartsell officiating. Interment will follow in the Graham Family cemetery.

She was born in Lookout, Okla., the daughter of the late Arden and Effie Hull Hall. She was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from Hertzler School of Nursing in Halstead, Kan. She was a member of the Galena Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Pierce Graham; and five brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one sister, Louise Anderson of Hutchinson, Kan.; five nieces, Ruby Lee, Reba Gunzinger, both of Hutchinson, Kan., Jane Missildine of Highlandsville, Mo., Becky Hall of Oklahoma, and Jan Sparkman of Canada; five nephews, Jimmy Hall, Joe Bill Hall, both of Arkansas, Richard Hall, Bob Hall, both of Seattle, Wash., and Wade Lee McCrary of Louisiana.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 7, from noon until 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home prior to the service.

Dottie Virginia Blair

Dottie Virginia Blair, 70, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Charles C. Burnett officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Lollah Jackson Blair. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and held a business degree from Draughn's Business School in Knoxville, Tenn. She was the office services supervisor for the Wythe County Health Department for 36 years.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Julia B. Holtman; and four brothers, Eldridge Blair, Gordon "Jock" Blair, Lloyd Blair and Foster Blair.

Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth "Cot" Dutton of Max Meadows, Helen Blair of Charleston, W.Va., and Lois Blair of Wytheville; one brother and sister-in-law, Ewing "Pud" and Margie Blair of Max Meadows; one sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Blair of Max Meadows; four nieces and nine nephews.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Wylene Plunkett Barton

Wylene Plunkett Barton, 69, of Marion, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Rev. Mary K. Briggs officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Lawn cemetery.

She was the widow of William B. Barton Jr. She was a native of Screven, Ga., and resided in Marion for 47 years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Royal Oak Branch of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by three daughters, Amy B. Martin and Laurie B. Bailey, both of Marion, and Rebecca B. Reynolds of Johnson City, Tenn.; one son, W. Baynard Barton III of Wytheville; three sisters, Adyle Trout and Sarah Anders, both of Savannah, Ga., and Margaret Wells of Hinesville, Ga.; two brothers, Bill Plunkett of Savannah, Ga., and Dan Plunkett of Midway, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Dr. Walter S. Barton of Wytheville; and five grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354.

Emory Ray Carter

Emory Ray Carter, 72, of Bastian, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in the Princeton Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel in Bland with the Rev. Doug Hyndrich, the Rev. Lee McIntosh and the Rev. Allen Ashworth officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, W.Va.

He was born in Bland County, the son of the late Harman and Minnie Kidd Carter and was of the United Methodist faith. He was a farmer and carpenter and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Helen L. Carter of Bastian; four sisters, Irene Heileman and Mae Carter, both of Bastian, Mary Akers of Rocky Gap, and Shirley Walker of Bland; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home.

The family requests that donations be made to the charity of choice.

Richard Mason Chrisley

Richard Mason Chrisley, 48, of Route 3, Max Meadows, died Friday, April 2, 1999, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 5, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Interment will be in the Draper Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Isaac Chrisley; his wife, Kathy Felts Chrisley; and a brother, William Ray Chrisley.

Survivors include his mother, Pauline Martin Chrisley of Route 3, Max Meadows; five sisters, Emma Chrisley of Pulaski, Velma and Elbert Fink, Nancy Brown, Barbara Chrisley, all of Route 3, Max Meadows, and Kay and Bo Riggins of Austinville; two brothers and sister-in-law, Paul Daniel and Teresa Chrisley, and Millard Andrew Chrisley, all of Max Meadows; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the residence of his mother at anytime.

Nannie Daugherty Cline

Nannie Daugherty Cline, 90, of Wytheville, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Arnold and Rev. Mike Harrison officiating. Interment will be in the West End cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Walters Daugherty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy T. Cline.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Thelma and Malcolm Viars of Wytheville; a granddaughter and her husband, Freda and Joe Doss of Wytheville; a grandson, Michael Cline of Wytheville; a great-grandson, Kenneth Grubb of Wytheville; a daughter-in-law, Beatrice E. Cline of Wytheville; a sister-in-law, Della Daugherty of Wytheville; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Grubb Funeral Home or at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on W. Ridge Road at anytime.

Alease Garnett Davis

Alease Garnett Davis, 75, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in the Roanoke Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Franklin Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Price and the Rev. Kenneth Sawyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakwood cemetery.

She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Ben Sr. and Greata Hill Jenkins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Davis Sr.; and a brother, Ben Jenkins.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Sheffey Jr. of Wytheville; a son, John L. Davis Jr. of Spartanburg, S.C.; a grandson, Joseph "J.J." Sheffey III; a sister-in-law, Shirley Jenkins of Wytheville; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Richard E. "Dick" Phillippi Jr. and family.

Edna Marie Wright Mabe

Edna Marie Wright Mabe, 81, of Route 2, Wytheville, died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Evansham Manor.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vaughn Earl Hartsell and the Rev. Larry Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

She was born in Grayson County, the daughter of the late Early and Lettie Cornett Wright. She was a member of the Anchor of Hope Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Mabe; and a brother, Elmo Wright.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Walter S. "Bunt" Mabe of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Hagee of Route 2, Wytheville; one daughter-in-law, Leetha M. Mabe of Route 2, Wytheville; three grandsons and spouses, Kenneth and Diane Mabe of Roanoke, Danny and Deanna Mabe of Wytheville, and Gary and Kathy Hagee of Hillsville; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Mabe and Jordan Hagee; three step-grandchildren, Rebecca Gilbert, Jessica Gilbert and Brandon Leonard; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home or at the residence at anytime.

Joel Craig Mabe

Joel Craig Mabe, 42, of Miami, Fla., formerly of Wytheville, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, in the South Shore Hospital in Miami, Fla.

A memorial service was held Friday, April 2, at 5 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Dennis Milligan and the Rev. Ann Blair officiating.

He was a member of the West End United Methodist Church and graduated from the Fort Chiswell High School Class of 1975.

He is survived by his parents, Franklin T. and Mary Lee Mabe of Max Meadows; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Michael and Kim Mabe of Max Meadows, and James Franklin and Lisa Mabe of Crockett; a niece, Hanna Mabe; maternal grandmother, Helen R. Hunley of Wytheville; paternal step-grandmother, Helen R. Hunley of Wytheville; paternal step-grandmother, Ethel Mabe of Max Meadows; special friends, Mike Snyder of Miami, Fla., Barry Schreiber of Washington, D.C., and Raymond; and several aunts and uncles.
