Everett J. Terry, 70

Harrisonburg - Everett Junior Terry, 70, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 10, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Terry was born on October 7, 1940, in Highland County and was the son of the late George Everett and Esther McLaughlin Terry. He was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Harrisonburg. He spent the majority of his life as a farmer and worked for the Virginia Department of Highways until his retirement. He was currently employed at the Harrisonburg Transit. He was a long time supporter of the Rockingham County Fair Association and had served on the board.
On April 7, 1961, he married the former Shirley McDaniel who survives.
Also surviving are two children, Melinda Berry and husband Dwayne, Mt. Sidney; Henry Terry and wife Valory, Linville; two sisters, Mary Halterman and husband Elmer; Carolyn Rexrode and husband Charles Jr., all of Monterey; one brother, Berlie N. Terry; Monterey; sister-in-law, Dot Terry , Lyndhurst; four grandchildren, Vanessa and Jerrica Berry and Ashton and Rett Terry.
Mr. Terry was preceded in death by a brother, James O. Terry and special buddy, Lanier McDaniel.
Pastor Jeff Ferguson will conduct a funeral service Monday morning at 11.a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church. Burial will follow
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3p.m. until 5p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church.
McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles E. Good, Jr., 82
Date of Death: Dec 13, 2010
Charles Edward Good, Jr., 82, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at his home.
Mr. Good was born on January 31, 1928 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Charles E. and Rebecca Hedrick Good, Sr. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1947, worked as a truck driver for Smith’s Transfer and also worked at the Valley Mall following his retirement. He was a member of the Linville Edom United Methodist Church.
On February 2, 1949, he married Vada Good who preceded him in death in 1991.
Surviving are three children, Linda Dove, Charles E. Good III, Myron G. Good; his companion, Jean Siple; one sister, Charlotte Kirtley and husband Buddy; six step children, Phyllis Parker, Patricia Ott, Mary Jane Bazzle, Pete Hottinger, Charles Hottinger, Jesse Hottinger; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great great grandchild and one step grandchild Chasity McCray.
Mr. Good was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Shifflett.
Reverend Lewis Armentrout will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
Friends may call at the home of Jean Siple, 2413 Buttermilk Creek Road, Harrisonburg.
The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to Davita Dialysis Center, 871 Cantrell Avenue, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.

Richard Leroy Ritchie, 65
Date of Death: Dec 13, 2010
Richard Leroy Ritchie, 65, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Monday, December 13, 2010.
Mr. Ritchie was born on February 15, 1945 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late F.P. and Gatha Frank Ritchie, Jr. He was employed at Victor Tube for many years.
Surviving are three children, Elijah Ritchie of Harrisonburg, Tina Milstead of McGaheysville, Donna Ritchie of Culpeper, a brother, Donnie Ritchie of Harrisonburg, four grandchildren, Brandon Mottesheard, Cody Ritchie, Hunter Ritchie, Maryssa Mottesheard and a sister in law, Vista Ritchie.
Mr. Ritchie was preceded in death by a brother, Jarvis Richie and nephew Jerry Ritchie.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Singers Glen cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home at anytime.
The casket will be closed.

Hugh Douglas Johnson

Hugh Douglas (“Doug”) Johnson, 72, died Friday, November 26, 2010 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after a long battle with multiple myeloma. Mr. Johnson was born on March 30, 1938 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Elmer and the late Evelyn Laverne Eutsler Johnson. He graduated from Dayton High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Air Force following his graduation from high school, traveling all over the world as an Air Force Police Officer. Mr. Johnson owned and operated a plumbing business and worked in the plumbing and heating industry for the majority of life and was a truck driver in later years. On June 23, 1960, he married Jessie Pearl (Dean) Johnson, who survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Tony Douglas Johnson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Eve German and a son, Randy Johnson, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Carole Harper and Linda Nelson and brothers, Kenneth Johnson and Gerald Johnson. Rev. Jerry Fawley will conduct a graveside service on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Beaver Creek cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the family's home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hahn Cancer Center at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, 2010 Health Campus Drive, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801. Arrangements are by McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Charles F. Shank, 74

Harrisonburg - Charles Franklin Shank, 74, of Harrisonburg, VA died November 28, 2010 at UVA Medical Center. He was born January 10, 1936 in Mt. Crawford, VA and was the son of the late James Taft and Vada Anna Jones Shank. He was passionately in love with his Lord and Savior, his family, and his friends. He served the Lord in various capacities over the years and attended Grace Covenant Church. Mr. Shank was a dairy farmer before becoming a building contractor which was his profession for the last 47 years. On September 24, 1955, he married Joann Lucille Wyse who survives him. He is also survived by six children, Mark Shank and wife Karen, Linda Davis and husband Stephen, of Harrisonburg, VA, Marvin Shank and wife Martha of Mt. Sidney, Va, Linette Andes and husband Gregory, Merle Shank and wife Suzanne, and Merlin Shank and wife Pamela, all of Harrisonburg, VA; 23 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, James L. Shank of Moneta, VA and Eldon L. Shank of Virginia Beach, VA. The family will receive friends Friday evening at the Grace Covenant Church from 6-9p.m. Friends may also call at the funeral home any time after Wednesday. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3p.m. at the Grace Covenant Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fathers House, Uganda c/o LifeChangers, P.O. Box 3709, Cookeville, TN 38502. Funeral arrangements are by McMullen Funeral Home.

Vella M. Davis

Vella Marie Davis, 93, was born on July 6, 1917 in Franklin West Virginia and moved to Harrisonburg in 1967. She was a dear saint of the Lord Jesus Christ and went to Glory Tuesday evening, December 7th in her sleep. Psalm 116:15 says : Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. She truly believed and walked the Christian walk. Her first husband, Herman Welland Demastus of Baltimore, Maryland and her second husband, Junior Davis of Harrisonburg preceded her in death. She is survived by two sisters; Arleta Moyers of Doe Hill, Virginia and Myrtle Pennybacker of Union Grove, Wisconsin and eight children: Billy Demastus and wife, Beverly of Oakland Maryland; John Demastus of Harrisonburg ; David Demastus and wife, Elizabeth of Carabelle Florida ; Kenneth Demastus and wife, Betty of Singers Glen Virginia; Carris Lam and husband, Jim of Penn Laird ; Loretta June Fleming and husband, Pete of Timberville, Virginia ; Mitzi Hallquist and husband, Paul of Broadway, Virginia ; Marsha Ritchie and husband, Paul of Harrisonburg. She also is survived by twenty-five grand children , thirty-seven great grand children and eight great-great grand children.
Family night will be at the Mcmullen Funeral Home on Friday evening between 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
The funeral will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Harrisonburg on Saturday at 11:00 am.
Officiating is the Rev. Bruce Murray and Rev. Jeremiah Reamer.
Interment will be at the Rest Haven Memorial Gardens North Valley Pike Harrisonburg.

Joan M. Droms, 78
Date of Death: Nov 26, 2010
Harrisonburg - Joan Audrey Droms, 78, died November 26, 2010 at Oak Lea Nursing Home where she had been a resident. Mrs. Droms was born on March 19, 1932, in Erie, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of the late Nevin and Stella Etter Mosier. Mrs. Droms lived in Schenectady, New York until 1970 and then spent 35 years in Leominster, Massachusetts. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and was a volunteer at the hospital guild. Mrs. Droms moved to the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community two and a half years ago. On August 25, 1951, she married Ernest Droms who preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, Carl Droms and companion, Adrie Voors, Harrisonburg; Kurt Droms, St. Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Sean Droms and Erin Droms. The body was cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to the LBDA, (Lewy Body Dementia Association), 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, Georgia, 30047. Louise R. Miller, 92

Louise Ritchie Miller, 92, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at Oak Lea Nursing Home where she had been a resident for 8 years. Mrs. Miller was born on July 22, 1918, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Claude H. and Lucy Lee Ritchie. She graduated from the Rockingham Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1942, after which she worked as a private duty nurse and in various other areas of nursing at RMH. She was a member of the Harrisonburg Baptist Church. On July 13, 1941, she married Lloyd Franklin Miller, Sr. who preceded her in death on May 7, 2005. Surviving are a son, L.F. Miller, Jr., of Hickory, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda Miller Marsh of Fleetwood, North Carolina; and four grandchildren, Lloyd Franklin Miller III, Michael Adam Miller, Scott Franklin Marsh, and Susan Pell Marsh. Wendell “Sonny” Henkel will conduct a funeral service on Saturday, November, 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Singers Glen cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund, 1501 Virginia Avenue, Harrisonburg, Va. 22802.

David A. Demastus

David Allen Demastus, 68, a resident of Carrabelle, Florida, died Saturday, December 11, 2010.
Mr. Demastus was born on October 21, 1942 in Baltimore City, Maryland and was the son of the late Herman Welland Demastus and Vella Marie Demastus Davis. Mr. Demastus was an active member of the First Baptist Church in St. George Island, Florida and also held the position of Maintenance Manager for the Christian Retreat. He worked as a contractor in the Carravelle area.
On April 7, 1979 he married the former Elizabeth Hare who survives.
Also surviving are three children, David Demastus, Jr. Randy Demastus, and Christopher Demastus all of Maryland; three brothers, Billy Demastus and wife Beverly of Oakland, Md., John Demastus, Harrisonburg, Ken Demastus and wife Betty of Singers Glen, four sisters, Carris Lam and husband Jim of Penn Laird, June Fleming and husband Pete of Broadway, Mitzi Hallquist and husband Paul of Mayland, Marsha Ritchie and husband Paul of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The Reverend Jim Radford will conduct a funeral service on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6 until 7.
Burial will be held in Florida at a later date.

Marvin L. “Doc” Lohr, 77
Date of Death: Nov 8, 2008
Harrisonburg - Marvin Leon Lohr , of 1009 Pike Church Road passed away on November 8, 2008 after a long illness. Marvin was born on March 29, 1931 in Broadway, Va. and was the son of the late Ralph and Beulah Lohr. Marvin was employed for 46 years with Sellers Furniture Stores. After retirement he work for Whitesel Brothers, Inc. He served as Trustee at Freedom Baptist Church where he was a member for many years. On June 15th, 1953 he married Margaret Dean Lohr who survives, also surviving are one daughter Patty Whitmer and husband Gary of Bridgewater, one son Steve A. Lohr and wife Vickie of Harrisonburg, and two grandchildren Chad A. Lohr, and Sally Ann Lohr of Harrisonburg. Also, he is survived by one brother Jack Lohr (Penny) Broadway, six sisters, Jessie Long (Eugene)Broadway, Mary Spitzer (Kenneth)Broadway ,JoAnn Gilkerson (Griffin)Bridgewater, Jean L. Andes, Harrisonburg, Phoebe Hoover (Gene) Linville, Phyllis Wisman (David), Harrisonburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg. Burial will be private, with a Memorial Service on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at Freedom Baptist Church. Harrisonburg, Virginia Memorial contributions may be made to the Freedom Baptist Church Building Fund c/o 141 Pleasant Hill Road, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.

Ione H. Lam, 82
Date of Death: Dec 5, 2008
Harrisonburg - Ione Huffman Lam, 82, died December 5, 2008 at Life Care Center in New Market where she had been a resident. Mrs. Lam was born on March 19, 1926 in Harrisonburg and was the daughter of the late Albert and Lena Knicely Huffman. She worked as a seamstress at Metro Pants Factory and later at Sancar. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Fairview Church of the Brethren. She was preceded in death by her husband Clark W. Lam who died September 1, 2007. Surviving are two sons, Norman W. Lam and wife Carol, Eugene E. Lam and wife Sarah all of Harrisonburg; one daughter, Patsy McDorman and husband Carroll, Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Ward Huffman and Sidney Huffman both of Bridgewater; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Pastor Paul Collins and Jim Hall will conduct a funeral service on Tuesday morning at 11a.m. at the Fairview Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow at Gospel Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from seven until eight at the McMullen Funeral Home, Harrisonburg.

Geraldine B. Shipp,
Date of Death: Nov 28, 2008
Elkton - Geraldine B. Shipp, 75, a resident of 112 Anne Court, Elkton, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Shipp was born December 15, 1932 and was the daughter of the late William Jennings and Elenora Frye Biller. Mrs. Shipp graduated from Linville Edom High School in 1951 and was a devoted homemaker. On January 1, 1951 she married Everette Shipp who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Anthony (Tony) Miles Shipp of Staunton and Dennis (Denny) Lee Shipp of Elkton, three sisters, Mary B. Mundy and Barbara B. Emswiler of Harrisonburg and Linda B. Trumbo of Fulks Run, four grandchildren, Kelly Ann Shipp, Joshua Michael Shipp, Tonya Southers and Dennise Lee Shipp. One great-grandson Jakob Southers. Blaine Smith will conduct a funeral service Tuesday afternoon December 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Keezletown cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening December 1, 2008 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Harrisonburg.
