Linda A. Breeden

Linda Ann Breeden, 61, a resident of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at her home.

She was born May 26, 1950, in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Ray and Julia Dean Lucas.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved and enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Her caring commitment for others was evident through her many years of baby-sitting and a home where everyone was welcome. She found enjoyment in taking rides on the Skyline Drive with her husband, gardening, planting flowers and her two cats.

On June 19, 1965, she married Arnold Wayne “Wayney” Breeden who preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2010.

Surviving are her five children, Lisa A. Breeden of Elkton, Tina Cook and husband, Randy, of Elkton, Sharon Dean and husband, Donald, of Elkton, Wilson “Bill” Breeden and wife, Dot, of Grottoes, and Stephanie Breeden of Elkton and her fiancé, Travis Grimsley, of Elkton; brothers, William Lucas and wife, Krista, of Winchester, John Lucas and wife, Laverne, of Grottoes, Larry J. Lucas and wife, Caron, of Weyers Cave and Page Lucas of Elkton; sisters, Vickie Cardin and husband, Paul, of Elkton and Betty Hendricks of McGaheysville; and eight grandchildren, Dylan Breeden, Dalton Breeden, Chelsey Cook, Montana Dean, Katelyn Breeden, Dakota Breeden, Kyle Mills and Robert Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with Pastor Carter Dean Officiating. Burial will follow in the Hensley’s United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call and visit at the Breeden home at any time.

David Sylvester Mitchell
(July 11, 1952 - March 21, 2013)

David Sylvester Mitchell, 60, of Basye, VA died March 21, 2013 at Life Care Center of New Market.

The body was cremated.

Dorothy Marie Shoemaker
(July 23, 1933 - March 19, 2013)

Dorothy Marie Housden Shoemaker, 79, of Fulks Run, VA died March 19, 2013 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 23, 1933 in Page County, and was a daughter of the late Leo Walter and Catherine Dinges Housden.

She worked for People’s Choice Answering Service in Harrisonburg before retiring. She had previously worked as a cook, and for Rockingham Poultry. She was a member of Mtn. Grove Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run, and attended Faith Baptist Church in Broadway. She was a unique wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family, and was deeply loved in return.

On March 6, 1954 she married Kenneth Dean Shoemaker, who preceded her in death January 8, 1998.

Surviving are one son, Monte Shoemaker of Broadway; one daughter, Alica “Lisa” Shoemaker of Broadway; two sisters, Phyllis Long and Bonnie Brill both of Stanley; one brother, Vincent Housden of Stanley; two grandsons, Adam Kenneth Shoemaker of Broadway, Monte Dean Shoemaker of Worthington, OH; one granddaughter, Amber Whetzel of Harrisonburg; 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jeremy Scott Shoemaker; two sisters, Peggy Cubbage, Diane Cubbage; and one brother, Nelson Housden.

Pastors Kevin Gerber and Donald Bare will conduct a funeral service 2:00 P.M. Sunday, at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Grove cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Saturday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. Friends may call anytime at Lisa’s residence.

Mrs. Shoemaker will not be ready for viewing until Friday.

Gerry Fran Lantz
(August 28, 1952 - March 20, 2013)

Gerry Fran Lantz, 60, of Broadway, died March 20, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 28, 1952 in San Diego, CA and was a daughter of Merrie Jean Grose Schaidt of New Market and the late Joseph Robert Schaidt.

She was a school bus aide for the Rockingham County School system. She was baptized in the Methodist Church.

On February 14, 2010 she married Delmer Lantz, who survives.

Also surviving is a daughter; Charity Webster of Mathias, WV, a son; Jimmy Martinez of Lost City, WV, four sisters; Merrie Ann Rodarmel of New Market, Grace Ellen Lewis Fulks Run, Joette Phillips of King George, VA, Lisbeth Kate Holt of Saratoga, WY, a brother; Tobey C. Schaidt of King George, VA, and five grandchildren.

Rev. Jonathan Hedrick will conduct a memorial service Thursday March 28 at 5 PM in the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Creela Kline Armentrout
(November 8, 1926 - March 6, 2013)

Creela Ileen Kline Armentrout, 86, of Harrisonburg, died March 6, 2013 at White Birch Assisted Living in Harrisonburg.

She was born November 8, 1926 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Irwin Martin and Elton May Welch Kline.

She was a homemaker and farmer. She was an active member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, and was active in the UMW and church choir. She was a loving and caring mother who raised eight children and was active in community services.

On December 28, 1948 she married Alvin “Sonny” K. Armentrout, who preceded her in death on August 15, 2010.

She is survived by five daughters; Jo Ellen Perry and husband Danny, of Broadway, Terry Tease and husband John, of Basye, Patsy Dove and husband Dale, of Harrisonburg, Pamela Hyser and husband Skip, of Harrisonburg, Jackie Rohrer and husband Danny, of Harrisonburg, three sons; Kenny Armentrout and wife Susie, of Harrisonburg, Charlie Armentrout of Bridgewater, Jeff Armentrout and wife Sjaan, of Harrisonburg, two sisters; Jean Early of Harrisonburg, Betty Jo Obaugh of Staunton, sister-in-law; Dolly Huffman, 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; Elwood and Donald Kline.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday 6 PM at Fellowship United Methodist Church on Fellowship Road, Harrisonburg. Burial will be private at Fellowship Community cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-9 PM at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

The casket will be closed.

Floretta V. Smith Wilt
(July 19, 1924 - February 24, 2013)

Floretta V. Smith Wilt, 88, of Fulks Run died February 24, at the Avante of Harrisonburg Nursing Home.

She was born July 13, 1924 in Bergton and was the daughter of the late William Ashby and Rosa Florence Dove Smith.

She was a homemaker and retired from H.D. Lee Company in Broadway after 20 years. She was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, where she was the church secretary, she sang in the choir, and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s group, Helping Hands.

On June 30, 1945 she married Ray Delmar Wilt, who preceded her in death on January 5, 1978.

Surviving are sons; Terry Wilt and wife Karen of California, MD, Dennis Wilt and wife Judy of Fulks Run, daughter; Karen Wilt Smith and husband Blaine, of Harrisonburg, sisters; Marie Thompson of Bergton, Evelyn Ennis of Broadway, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother; Floyd Smith.

Rev. Randy Kiel will conduct a funeral service 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Fulks Run. Burial will follow at the Whitmer cemetery in Fulks Run.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Boyd McGuire See
(June 20, 1916 - March 26, 2013)

U.S. Veteran - Boyd McGuire See, 96, of Mathias, WV died March 26, 2013.

He was born June 20, 1916 in Hardy County, and was the son of the late Issac A. and Emma Jenkins See.

He was a maintenance repairman for Columbia Gas for 30 years before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Garrett’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Mathias, and a member of the Lost River V.F.W.

On July 25, 1940 he married the former Bertha Delawder, who preceded him in death June 17, 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Lenna Sager and husband Pete of Bergton; a son, Allen See of Winchester; a daughter, Debbie See of Irvine, Calif.; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren.

He was the last surviving sibling of 11 children.

Rev.’s Jonathan Hedrick and Deborah Shreve will conduct a funeral service 1:00 P.M. Saturday at Garrett’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery in Mathias.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Friday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Junior Ervin Ritchie
(June 2, 1973 - March 22, 2013)

Junior Ervin Ritchie, 39, of Fulks Run, died March 22, 2013 at UVA Health Center.

He was born June 2, 1973 in Harrisonburg, son of Dennis and Linda Custer Ritchie, of Fulks Run.

He had worked at Howell Metal in New Market.

Surviving is a son; Michael Ritchie, of Fulks Run.

His body was cremated.

A memorial service will be held 7PM Tuesday at Mtn. Grove Church of the Brethren in Fulks Run.

Family requests memorial contributions be made to Grandle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Rondel L. Henderson

Rondel Lavern Henderson, 76, of Stanley, passed away Aug. 5, 2011. He was born April 13, 1935, the son of the late Dorothy Aleshire.

He was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church and American Legion Post 0022. He served in the Army and worked at Avtex and Massanutten Resort before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Io Martin Henderson; three children, Sharon Henderson, Ronald Henderson and Tammy Rhinehart and her husband, Danny; five grandchildren, Derrick Mauck and wife, Cassie, Martin Henderson and wife, Joyce, Daniel Rhinehart, Melissa Rhinehart and MacKenzie and MacKayla Mauck; and one niece, Lisa Cook and husband, Roger, and their two children. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Henderson.

Friends may call or visit at the Henderson home anytime. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, where the funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, with the Rev. Eric Croft officiating. Interment will be at Sam Comer cemetery in Shenandoah with military honors.

Eric S. Moyers

Eric S. Moyers, of Richmond, Va., passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 6, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Va., as a result of a sudden and unexpected medical complication. An avid lover of all sports, scuba diving, and music, he was just 41 years young. He was loved by all who knew him. Eric will be remembered for his unmatched sense of humor, quick wit and kind heart.

Eric was born Jan. 27, 1970, and was the son of Richard W. and Nancy Moyers. He was the oldest of four children. He was born and raised in Harrisonburg, Va. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1988. Eric was an avid sportsman in high school and loved participating in varsity basketball and varsity football for the Blue Streaks. He continued his love of sports later in life by playing on numerous community softball teams and playing golf with his friends and family.

Eric moved to Richmond, Va., and found his calling in the restaurant industry. Eric assisted in managing several restaurants in the metro-Richmond area. Eric never knew a stranger. Always one to enjoy being around people, his career allowed him to do what he knew best: to be outgoing, expressive, funny and friendly.

Eric leaves behind his parents, Richard W. and Nancy Moyers of Richmond; brother, Chris Moyers and sister-in-law, Noelle Moyers of Broomfield, Colo.; sister, Kelley Webb and brother-in-law, Mark Webb, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Katie Moyers of Richmond, Va.; niece and nephew, Lexi Moyers and Tanner Moyers, respectively, of Broomfield, Colo.; grandparents, Lawrence and Helen Terry of Roanoke, Va.; uncle, Larry, and Linda Terry of Richmond; aunt, Susan Terry of Manakin, Va., many cousins; and many friends, both personal and professional.

The family will receive friends Monday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway, Va., from 7 to 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, a private graveside service will be held at the Linville Creek Church of the Brethren cemetery in Broadway. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grandle Funeral Home Chapel. Eric will be laid to rest beside his beloved grandparents, who predeceased him, Mrs. Ferne Moyers and Mr. Frank Moyers.

Donations may be made to the church, where Eric spent many Sundays during his childhood: Broadway Presbyterian Church Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 366, Broadway, VA 22815.
