Adelaide Hardy Beachy

EDINBURG - Adelaide Hardy Beachy, 102, died on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Greenfield of Woodstock.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1908, in Franklin Pa., and was a daughter of the late Delton Clyde and Ivy Eleanor Matteson Hardy.

Mrs. Beachy was a member of Sharon First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, Pa.

She is survived by two sons, Lloyd Hardy Beachy of New London, Conn. and Clyde Stuart Beachy of Edinburg; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Phillip Beachy; and a daughter, Eleanor Beachy Wilhelm of Hartford, Ohio.

Burial will be held at a later date in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, Pa.

Charlotte M. Kelley

NEW MARKET - Charlotte M. Kelley, 87, died on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Shenandoah Place, New Market.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, June 27, at Reformation Lutheran Church, New Market. Burial was in Emmanuel Lutheran cemetery, New Market.

William Arthur Pangle, Jr.

STRASBURG - William Arthur Pangle, Jr., 88, died on Thursday, June 24, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1921, in Lebanon Church, and was a son of the late William A. Sr. and Lillie Virginia Hockman Pangle.

Mr. Pangle was a former employee of National Fruit, Avtex, and spent most of his life working as a farmer. He was a member of the Lebanon Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge #403.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Lavonne Gochenour Pangle of Strasburg; his children, Carolyn Hitt, Richard W. Pangle, Delbert G. Pangle and James R. Pangle all of Strasburg; a sister, Anna Lee Funkhouser of Arlington; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Pangle; and three sisters, Marie Fewell, Lois Tiffany, and Mildred Glaize.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, June 28, at Lebanon Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lee Brumback officiating. Burial was in Lebanon Church cemetery.

Roxie Delaine Mumaw Stickley

STRASBURG - Roxie Delaine Mumaw Stickley, 75, died on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Winchester Medical Center.

She was born on April 9, 1935, in Shenandoah County, and was a daughter of the late Elmer Lee, Sr. and Zella Naomi Miller Mumaw.

Mrs. Stickley was a member of the Emmanuel Church of Fishers Hill. She was a member of the Strasburg Women of the Moose Chapter 1319.

She is survived by her children, Michael A. Stickley of Charles Town, W.Va., Pam Simmons of Strasburg, and Kevin Stickley of Strasburg; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Elmer Lee Mumaw, Jr. of Strasburg. She was preceded in death by a son, Rickey Lynn Stickley, and a sister, Elizabeth Mumaw.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, June 29, at Stover Memorial Chapel with Minister Chris Straley officiating. Burial was in Fishers Hill cemetery.

Glenn E. Barrick

EDINBURG - Glenn E. Barrick, 80, on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 3, 1929, in Edinburg, and was the son of the late Thomas E. Barrick Jr. and Ida Wakeman Barrick.

Mr. Barrick was a graduate of Edinburg High School class of 1947, where he played basketball. He served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He trained as a Paratrooper at Fort Benning, Ga., prior to going to Korea. He drove a trailer truck for Blue Ridge Poultry, Service Inc., McLean, Mason & Dixon and the longest with Consolidated Freight. He was a lifelong member of Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Hollar Barrick; a son, Larry Glenn Barrick of Edinburg; two sisters, Frances Gochenour and Grace Minnick both of Edinburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Barrick.

A funeral Service was held on Wednesday March 31, at Wakeman’s Grove Church of the Brethren, Edinburg, with the Rev. Jim Hardenbrook officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

James D. Boyer

FORT VALLEY - James D. Boyer, 76, died on Sunday, March 28, 2010.

He was born on June 27, 1933, in Fort Valley, and was a son of the late Ezra E. and Elsye Golladay Boyer.

Mr. Boyer was a graduate of Strasburg High School, retired from Avtex, and was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Fort Valley Church of God in Abrahamic Faith.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Graves of Berkley Springs, W.Va. and Connie Crim of Clear Brook; three sisters, Lorraine Zirkle of Edinburg, Betty Ludwig of Richmond, and Natalie Blackwell of Dispuntana; three step children, Ricky Painter of Harrisonburg, Rodney Painter of Grottoes, and Diane Painter of Timberville; one granddaughter, seven step grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Stout Boyer, two sons, Charles Lynn Boyer and Larry Dean Boyer.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 1, at the Dellinger Funeral Home, Woodstock by Pastor Jennings Wood. Burial was in Cedarwood cemetery.

Annabelle Virginia Miller Hamman

STRASBURG - Annabelle Virginia Miller Hamman, 85, died on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the home of her daughter.

She was on born May 11, 1924, in Shenandoah County, and was a daughter of the late Howard P. and Vallie Kline Miller.

Mrs. Hamman was a member of Meadow Mills Church Of The Brethren where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of Strasburg Women Of The Moose No. 1319 and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department. She was a former seamstress at T&E Sportswear.

She is survived by two sons, John Allen Hamman and Michael Eugene Hamman and of Strasburg; two daughters, Anna Lee Rutz of Strasburg and Connie Marie Orebaugh of Mount Jackson; two sisters, Martha Burkhart of Stephens City and Helen Hodson of Lebanon Church; a brother, Howard P. Miller, Jr. of Vermont; thirteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Hamman, Jr.; a sister, Mary White and a brother, Raymond Miller.

A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, April 1, at Stover Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Fred Mauck officiating. Burial was in St. Stephen cemetery, Strasburg.

Rev. Judy Annette Stevenson
(November 18, 1938 - March 13, 2013)

Reverend Judy Annette Stevenson, 74, of Broadway, VA passed away surrounded by family, March 13, 2013 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She was born November 18, 1938 in Indiana, and was a daughter of the late Wayne and Nigel Boyden Everett.

She lived most of her life in West Virginia serving as a United Methodist Minister in many different areas of the state. She loved traveling, reading, and watching old western movies.

On May 18, 1956 she married Roy Kenneth Stevenson, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four sons, Arnold Stevenson and wife Debbie of Newburg, WV, Ronnie Stevenson and wife Lecia of Timberville, Keith Stevenson of Elkton, Steve Stevenson and wife Candy of Lost City; two daughters, Kenlyn Kerr and husband Rob of Lost City, Elizabeth Stevenson and Darren Conley of Broadway; one brother, Nathan Everett of Washington; three sisters, Lael Russell of Ohio, Sharon Springer of Texas, and Kim Hart of Washington; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 3:00 P.M Saturday, March 23, 2013, at the Grandle Funeral Home chapel in Broadway.

The family requests flowers be omitted, and memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Bennie Israel Getz
(November 17, 1930 - March 7, 2013)

Benjamin “Bennie” Israel Getz, 82, of Broadway, VA died March 7, 2013 at his residence.

He was born November 17, 1930 in Linville, and was a son of the late John Israel and Martha Jane Turner Getz.

He was a sales manager for Rockingham Poultry and WLR for 30 years before retiring. He was a member of Linville Creek Church of the Brethren in Broadway, and a former member of Broadway-Timberville Jaycees. He was an avid local historian and genealogist. He contributed much to the Historical Society, Plains Museum, and Shenandoah Valley Museum in Winchester.

On August 30, 1949 he married the former Bernice Smith, who preceded him in death August 29, 2002.

Surviving are four sons, K.B. Getz and Judy Custer of Broadway, Mark Getz and wife Brenda of Basye, David Getz and wife Katrina of Fulks Run, Kelly Getz and wife Carol of Broadway; three sisters, Wilda Clayton of Harrisonburg, Nina M. Bibble of Linville, Flemmie Stultz of Roanoke; one brother, John Getz of Charlottesville; special friend, Nancy Stultz of Harrisonburg; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Turner W. Getz; and one sister, Thelma Showalter.

Pastor Paul Roth and Dr. Owen Stultz will conduct a funeral service 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Linville Creek Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in the Linville Creek cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Monday at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Arlene Haun Strickler
(May 4, 1914 - March 15, 2013)

Arlene Haun Strickler, almost 99, of Hollywood, FL, and formerly of Timberville, died March 15, 2013 at her residence.

She was born May 4, 1914 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Harry G. and Callie Mae Rhodes Haun.

She worked in sales at Leggett in Harrisonburg and the Hecht Company in Northern Virginia. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Broadway and was a current member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Hollywood, FL, where she was a member of the Esther Women’s Circle. She was a member of B.H.S. Glee Club, and a past member of the Plains District Garden Club. She was a loving wife and mother, caring and devoted grandmother, a nice, patient, and helpful great grandmother.

On September 8, 1961 she married John L. Strickler, who survives. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glendon C. Knupp.

Also surviving are a daughter; Regenia Lynn Wine and husband Shelton G., of Waynesboro, a son; Bradley H. Knupp, Sr., of SC, five grandchildren; Carrie M. Miller-Blackburn and husband Kevin, Heather L. Bayers and husband Jason, Melissa A. Hawkins and husband Chris, Debra L. Martinez and husband Roland, Bradley H. Knupp, Jr. and wife Kelly; twelve great grandchildren,Christopher, Emmalyn, Alyssa, Michael, Nate, Zack, Anna Kate, Joey, Anthony, Paige, Michael, Chrisalynn; great great grandchild, Kylie.

Rev.’s David Burrough and Temple Myers will conduct a funeral service 11:00 A.M. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Broadway. Burial will be at Linville Creek cemetery in Broadway.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M. Thursday at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Mrs. Strickler will be ready for viewing Wednesday.

Raymond Lee Howard

TOMS BROOK - Raymond Lee Howard, 64, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in his home.

He was born in 1945 in Hamtramck, Mich., and was a son of the late Forest T. and Hazel Pearl Howard.

Mr. Howard spent 20 years in the United States Army serving three tours in Vietnam, retiring in 1985 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He worked as a computer specialist for the Department of the Army, and for two years he worked for H&R Block as a tax preparation specialist. He attended Calvary Chapel Winchester and was active in Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse.

On Oct. 8, 1994, he married Norma Dee Adams.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sandy Hart of Augusta, Ga.; four sons, Ted Matthew Howard and Jeremiyah Mullins, both of Manassas, Ryan Mullins of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Michael Mullins of Winchester; one granddaughter; a sister, Stella Grace of Westland, Michi.; and a brother, James Howard of West Branch, Michi. He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores Hall.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 27, at Calvary Chapel Winchester, with Pastor Ed Fife officiating. Interment was private.
