Boyd William Fadeley

Woodstock - Boyd William Fadeley, 64, of Woodstock, died December 19, 2009.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Church of the Brethren by Rev. George Bowers. Burial followed at Sunset View Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Fadeley was born in Woodstock, Va. on Oct. 5, 1945. He was the son of the late Cecil and Cleta Good Fadeley.

He was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1966. He served in the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a member of Antioch Church of the Brethren and the American Legion Post #199.

Boyd was part owner and operator of Fadeley's Garage, where he served the public with a warm heart and a smile. Boyd allowed the love of God to shine through him to everyone and was deeply loved in return. He was a special friend to many, especially Sam Kibler, who was a close friend from childhood.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Linden, Wayne, Richard, Larry, and Cecil, Jr.

Mr. Fadeley is survived by his loving wife, Lucille Hull Fadeley; His children, Joey Edwards and wife, Sonya, Tracy Rittenour and Amy Babcock and her husband, Scott; His grandchildren, Brittani and Jordyn Sibert, and Ryan and Matthew Edwards, all whom he loved as his own; Sisters, Roma Loy and husband Gary, Maxine Mauck and husband, Pete, and Shirley Helsley and husband Tommy; Brothers, Kenneth and wife, Goldie, Gordon and wife, Evelyn, Galen and wife, Judy, and Garland Dean and wife, Cindy; a special nephew, Eric, whom he worked with daily, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Monday night at Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pallbearers were Wilson Ryman, Jim Shiley, Danny Funkhouser, Buddy Pence, Bill Sibert, Sonny Marston, Elihu Epard, Wilson Dysart, Tyrone Epard, and Ronnie Miller. Honorary pallbearers were the nephews of Boyd William Fadeley.

Isabel Sheetz Shannon

Suffolk - Isabel Sheetz Shannon, 88, died after a long illness on December 10, 2009. Mrs. Shannon was a native of Woodstock and also a resident of Mt. Jackson for many years.

Mrs. Shannon was the daughter of Elizabeth Bemis Sheetz and Luther Guy Sheetz, and sister of Richard and Eugene Sheetz, all deceased. She was the wife of the late Philip B. Shannon.

Her son, Randy and his wife, Phyllis, and two grandchildren, Erin and Philip, survive Mrs. Shannon. She had resided in Portsmouth near her son the past three years.

Mrs. Shannon lived a long, active life during which she cherished her family and friends. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her compassionate spirit and great sense of humor.

Mrs. Shannon was employed as a medical assistant for 25 years to Dr. George Waterman and for several years to Dr. Eloise Haun in Woodstock. She was a member of the Shenandoah County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and especially enjoyed her volunteer work in the Extended Care Unit. She also was an active member of the Democratic Women of Shenandoah County, Mt. Jackson Garden Club, Red Cross, and a number of bridge clubs. Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church held a special place in her heart as she served in many roles including Sunday School teacher and member of Church Council.

Mrs. Shannon was an avid golfer and occasional tennis player. She enjoyed entertaining her many friends. She cared deeply for others and was happiest when she could brighten another person’s day with a plate of cookies, a pot of soup, or one of her special rum cakes. She loved her annual beach vacations and Christmas visits with her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 2, at noon. The Rev. William Ballance will officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Jackson cemetery prior to the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 5983 Main Street, Mt. Jackson, Va. 22842 or to the Fredrickson Shannon Scholarship, Roanoke College, 221 College Lane, Salem, Va. 24153.

Kitty Gore Marsett

Maryland - Kitty Gore Marsett, age 87, died on December 20, 2009 at her home in Wheatfield after a long illness.

Mrs. Marsett was born on Oct. 15, 1922, the only child of Guy F. Gore and Lorraine "Dick" Pingley Gore of Wheatfield. She was born in Berryville and grew up in Hagerstown, Md., Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Linthicum Heights, Md. She was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School (Maryland) and a graduate of the Bard-Avon Finishing School in Baltimore, Md. She began working in 1941 for the Civil Service at Ft. Meade, Md. as a typist for the famous Ernie Pyle. “She became active in the Strasburg Library, Strasburg Museum and the Massanutten Garden Club.

In 1983, Mrs. Marsett married retired Col. Robert Marsett. Following their marriage they purchased a second home in the town of Strasburg. Col. Marsett preceded her in death in 2004. A stepdaughter, Margie Marsett of Okinawa, Japan, also preceded her in death earlier this month. She is survived by two stepsons, Jack Marsett and wife, Sue of Delaware and Robin Marsett and wife, Roseann of Tucson, Arizona, by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several cousins and many friends.

A family night was held at Stover Funeral Home, Strasburg on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Funeral services were held at the Laurel Hill Christian Church on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd at 11 a.m. and were presided over by Rev. Alan Gray and Dr. Bill Brown. Interment followed at Lebanon Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Shalap, David Shalap, Mike Hockman, Don Sutherland, Bobby Supinger and Ken Downs. In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to the Humane Society at P.O. Box 173, Woodstock, Va. 22664.

Mary Ann Weaver

Edinburg - Mary Ann Weaver, 58, of Edinburg, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.

Funeral arrangements, which are being handled by Stover Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Strasburg, were incomplete at press time.

Karen M. Constable

NEW MARKET - Karen M. Constable, 68, died on April 22, 2009.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas F. Constable, Jr.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Market, by the Rev. Alexander D. MacPhail.

The family will receive friends at the church an hour before the service.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Debbie Kay Faust

STRASBURG - Debbie Kay Faust, 54, died on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 26, 1955, in Delaplane, and was the daughter of the late Arthur Leon and Lucy Bell Wright Sommers, Sr.

Mrs. Faust was employed by RR Donnelley in Strasburg.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin R. Faust; five sons, Roger L. Wright, Jr., and Kenneth B. Wright both of Marshall, Randy J. Wright, of Gore, Frankie R. Wright of Charles Town, W.Va. and John C. Campbell of Strasburg; a brother, Arthur Leon Sommers, Jr. of Front Royal; three sisters, Barbara L. Gentry of Chilhowie, Mary V. Owens of Marshall and Edith A. Dunlap of Paw Paw, W.Va.; and ten grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted on Sunday, Nov. 15, at Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg with Pastor William Todd Gess officiating. Burial was in Riverview cemetery, Strasburg.

Sandra Lee Neff

STRASBURG - Sandra Lee Neff, 67, died on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center.

She was born on Feb. 17, 1942, in Carlisle, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Karl S. and Mary Shrader French, Sr. and the step-daughter of the late Betty French.

Mrs. Neff was employed as a nurse/caregiver.

She is survived by her husband, David William Neff; her daughter, Debbie DeCarlo of Edinburg; her son, Steven R. Marks of Strasburg; her step-daughter, Diana Zaremba of Wardensville, W.Va.; six sisters, Pat Wolfe and Joan Mudd of Virginia Beach, Barbara Hanak of DuBois, Pa., Karol O'Hearn, Brian, Roxane Crawford, James, Pamela Wise, and John, all of Lebanon, Pa. and Sherri Bennett of Lansdale, Pa.; two brothers, Karl French, Jr. of Pa. and Bobby Shrader of Hancock, Md.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a granddaughter.

A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Stover Funeral Home in Strasburg with the Rev. C. Keith Warren officiating. Burial was in Panorama Memorial Gardens, Warren County.

Sandra Lee Neff

STRASBURG - Sandra Lee Neff, 67, died on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center.

David Richard Ridgley, Sr.

WOODSTOCK - David Richard Ridgley, Sr., 60, died on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009.

He was born on April 7, 1949, in Anne Arundel, Md., and was the son of Mazie Shifflett and the late Chester Ridgley.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Violet Ridgley; a son, David Ridgley, Jr.; a daughter, Wanda Boswell; three sisters, Sissy Gallaway, Patty Romick, Velvet Powell; a brother, Timmy Ridgley; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Ridgley.

A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, Nov. 19, at Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren. Burial was in Detrick cemetery in Fort Valley.

Ruth Riley Rice St. Clair

ALEXANDRIA - Ruth Riley Rice St. Clair, 86, died on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009.

She was born in New Market, and was the daughter of the late Frank and Vallie Rice.

Mrs. St. Clair was a graduate of New Market High School and was an accomplished organist. She was a member of the Soroptimist International and the Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, J. Robert St. Clair; a daughter, Sharon Lugar; a son, Robert St. Clair, three grandsons and a great-grandson.

A memorial service was held in Alexandria.

Bernard Winston Wymer

STRASBURG - Bernard Winston Wymer, 81, died on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Consulate Health Care of Woodstock.

He was born on March 22, 1928, in Middletown, and was the son of the late Charles Milton and Ann Myrtle Hodson Wymer.

Mr. Wymer was a member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church. He was retired from Abex Inc. having worked for over forty years. He was a U.S Army Veteran having served in World War II. He was a life member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post #77 of Strasburg, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 1860 of Front Royal. He was a member of the Strasburg Moose Lodge #403.

He is survived by his wife, Lytha May Smith Wymer of Strasburg; three daughters, Rosa Wymer Ramsey of Fort Valley, Vanessa Lynn Taylor of Winchester, and Tammy Wymer Stinson of Woodstock; a step-son, Ronald Stoneburner of Strasburg; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; numeral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, and three brothers.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Stover Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jack Keep and Pastor Dave Casto officiating. Burial was in Panorama Memorial Gardens with Military honors conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #77 of Strasburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Strasburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 620, Strasburg, Va. 22657.

John Kenneth Campbell, Sr.

WINCHESTER - John Kenneth Campbell, Sr., 85, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Campbell was born in 1924 in Strasburg, and was the son of the late Richard Arthur and Flora Campbell. He retired with 37 1/2 years of service, from the Compound Department at ABEX. He attended Christian Church in Strasburg and was a member of VFW and American Legion. He was a lifetime walker, many locals knew him as "The Walker". He was a veteran, having served in the Army as Private First Class during World War II era.

During his time served, he achieved the Good Conduct, American Campaign, European African Middle Eastern Campaign with five Bronze Stars and World War II Victory medal.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Mae L. Hottle, whom he married on Nov. 2, 1952, in Clarendon; four children, John Kenneth Campbell, Jr. and wife, Sherrie of Severn, Md., Patricia Lee Campbell of Winchester, Maria Louise Burdette and husband, Wallace Gary of Winchester, and Arthur Brian Campbell and wife, Heather of Richmond; six grandchildren, Kenny and wife, Sarah, Mark and wife, Kaycee, Stephani and her partner, Brandie, Gina, Zachary and Riley; three great grandchildren, Camden, Chase and Skyler; a brother, Wright Gatewood Campbell and wife, Myrtle Anne of Fredericksburg; and Randy Lewis and wife, Jeannie, whom is considered a son. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Ann Campbell; seven sisters, Nancy Fox, Jane Frye, Josephine Rutherford, Laura Truslow, Ann Campbell, Francis Campbell and Martha Brown; and two brothers, Richard A. Campbell and Omar P. Campbell.

Services were private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester Va. 22601.

Arrangements were handled by Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.

Juanita S. Johnson

Juanita Sabra Brandt Johnson, 86, of Broadway, and a resident of Timberview Crossing Assisted Living in Timberville Va., passed away on Oct. 4, 2011.

Juanita was born July 6, 1925, in New Bern, N.C., to the late Fritz and Maude Fulford Brandt.

She graduated from Tucson Arizona High School. With World War II going on, she worked for Aircraft Supply Division of Davis-Monthan Army Air Base until her marriage to Wallace E. Johnson on Sept. 18, 1945. In more recent years, she worked as a postal clerk in Holmdel, N.J., and then as an assistant branch manager at Shadow Lawn Savings and Loan in Holmdel, N.J.

Surviving besides her husband of 66 years, are two daughters, Clarine Hays of Harrisonburg and Susan Johnson of Timberville; two sons, James E. Johnson of Parker, Colo., and John A. Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Clarine Wells of Fairfax Station, Va.; one brother, Denard Brandt of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two sisters.

A funeral service will be held at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor James Bailey of Valley Baptist Church in Edinburg, Va., officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Gideons from the Rockingham North Camp. Burial will be at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va. Pastor Roland Bennett of Woodland Church in Troutville, Va., will conduct a brief graveside service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Grandle Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International, P.O. Box 144, Timberville, VA 22853. Mrs. Johnson had been a longtime member of the Gideons International Auxiliary.
