John Herbert DeSarno
(July 22, 1953 - June 30, 2011)

John Herbert DeSarno, 57, of Grottoes, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

John was born in Washington D.C., on July 22, 1953, and was a son of the late Ralph F. and Julia (Rawlings) DeSarno.

He retired from the Federal Park Service in Washington D.C. as a Grounds Keeper at the Lincoln Memorial.

John is survived by a daughter, Joanna DeSarno of Tampa, FL; two sisters, Bridget Meyer and husband Gary of Ocean Pines, MD, and Rose DeSarno of SC; three brothers, Ralph DeSarno and wife Evelyn of Grottoes, Vincent DeSarno and wife Peggy of Staunton, and Dominic DeSarno and wife Linda of White Plains, MD. He is also survived by a grandson, Jonah DeSarno.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Daniel DeSarno.

At his request, his body has been cremated. No services are scheduled at this time.

Johnson Funeral Service in Grottoes is entrusted with arrangements.

Lola Gene Lineweaver

WOODSTOCK - Lola Gene Lineweaver, 56, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Lineweaver was born on Aug. 29, 1952, in Mount Jackson, and was a daughter of Jessie Marie Moyers Dellinger of Mount Jackson and the late Galen Joseph Dellinger, Sr. She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg. She was an executive administrative assistant for the Central Intelligence Agency for 26 years. She was a member of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and the Thursday night bowling league.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Bobby Lineweaver, Jr. whom she married on Nov. 25, 1971; two daughters, Carla Sue Fadely of Woodstock and Laura Ann Wright and husband Frankie of Strasburg; a son, Robert Joey Lineweaver and his fiance Bobbie Hoyle of Woodstock; five sisters, Silvia Marshall of Stafford, Linda Ludwig of Fishers Hill, Wanda Ann Adams of Mount Jackson, Polly Davis of Anderson, Ind. and Audrey Ludwig of Woodstock; a brother, Galen Dellinger, Jr. of Mount Jackson; four grandchildren, Brittany Catherine Wright, Eric Lee Fadely, Kaitlyn Nicole Fadely and Madison Irene Wright; and special friends, Kim Hockman and Charlie Funkhouser of Woodstock.

A funeral services was held on Saturday, May 16 at the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock with the Rev. George Bowers officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Mount Jackson.

Richard Hampton Sullivan Sr.
(August 17, 1939 - April 5, 2013)

Retired Timberville Police Chief Richard H. Sullivan Sr. 73 of Timberville, passed away on April 5, 2013, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Richard was born August 17, 1939 in Albemarle Co. and was the son of the late James D. and Virginia A. Shifflett Sullivan, Sr.

Richard was a devoted Timberville Police Officer for 37 years and the police chief for 20 of those years. He received many recognitions and awards during his career. He loved Nascar, Antique cars and Music. He was a member of the Singers Glen Baptist Church.

Richard is survived by a companion of 40 years, Juanita Price, of Timberville. He is also survivied by two sons; Richard Sullivan Jr.( Jackie) of McGaheysville,Terry Price (Becky) of Harrisonburg, three daughters; Diane Miller ( Don) of Timberville, Tammy Kitta (Michael) of Harrisonburg, Cindy Shifflett (Donnie) of New Market, three brothers; James D. Jr. (Sue) of Harrisonburg, Carroll (Sandra) of Standardsville and Bobby (Betty) of Danville, two sisters; Janet Neff (Don) of New Jersey, Nancy Irons (Bob) of Lexington, 9 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Retired Master Trooper/ Chaplin VSP Paul Glovier and Commonwealth Attorney Marsha Garst will conduct a funeral service Tuesday April 9, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Broadway Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Timberville cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 9 P.M. at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.

Betty Rinker Longerbeam

STRASBURG - Betty Rinker Longerbeam, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Longerbeam was born on April 13, 1930, in Fort Valley, and was a daughter of the late Paul S. and Thelma Ritenour Rinker. She was a machinist at Avtex.

She is survived by six daughters, Judy Coffman of Edinburg, Debra Custer of Mount Jackson, Patty Riffey of Strasburg, Lisa Burner of New Market, Kim Miller of Mount Jackson and Lori Robinison of Woodstock; five sons, Lonnie Fadeley of Manassas, Dennis L. Fadeley of Timberville, James Miller of Mount Jackson, Michael Miller of Mount Jackson and Kevin Miller of Middletown; a sister-in-law Vivian Rinker of Middletown; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Daniel W. Rinker; and a granddaughter, Michelle Lynn Miller.

A Memorial Service was conducted on Saturday, May 16, at the Valley Funeral Chapel in Edinburg, by Pastor Freddie Helsley. Burial was in the Mount Jackson cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Daniel W. Rinker Scholarship Fund, c/o Strasburg High School, 250 Ram Dr., Strasburg, Va. 22657.

Robert Dell Wilkins

EDINBURG - Robert Dell Wilkins, 72, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

A graveside service was conducted on Friday, May 15, at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Woodstock.

Arrangements were handled by the Dellinger Funeral Home in Woodstock.

Emily Heatwole Long
(March 20, 1944 - June 25, 2011)

Emily Heatwole Long, 67, of Harrisonburg, died peacefully surrounded by her family, Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Blue Ridge Hospice in Winchester.

Emily was born in Rockingham County on March 20, 1944, and was a daughter of the late Herman and Hattie Heatwole.

She retired from the City of Harrisonburg in 2006 after serving 34 years as the Voter Registrar.

Emily is survived by a son, Keith Long of Leesburg; a brother, Fred Heatwole and wife, Ann of Singers Glen; two sisters, Louise Miller and husband, Donald of Hinton; Sue Ritchie and husband, Donald of Harrisonburg. She had a special love for her many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church where Pastor Bob Humphrey will conduct a private family service; burial will follow at Weavers Mennonite Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 28, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church, 281 East Market Street, Harrisonburg.

Arrangements are by Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater.

Margaret Frances Glenn
(April 20, 1951 - October 18, 2011)

Margaret Frances Glenn, 60, of Mount Solon, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Margaret was born in Augusta County on April 20, 1951, and was a daughter of the late Garland Terry, and Kathryn (Carroll) Terry of Mount Solon, who survives.

She worked at Tyson's Foods, and attended Stokesville Community Church in Mount Solon. She was an avid Harrisonburg Turks and NY Yankee's fan.

She was united in marriage to Charlie G. Glenn, who preceded her on death in January 6, 1992.

In addition to her mother, Margaret is survived by a son, Michael Glenn of Harrisonburg; five sisters, Mary Puffenbarger (Butch) of Sugar Grove, WV, Jane Daggy of Deerfield, Sue Terry of Mount Solon, Judy Foxx (Harry) of Mount Solon, and Donna Jack (Steve) of Deerfield. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Terry; mother-in-law, Martha Glenn; and three brother-in laws, Bob Dillon, Colin Daggy, and William Glenn. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater. Burial will be private.

Friends and Family may call or visit anytime, at the home of Margaret's mother, 601 Nash Road in Mt. Solon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Area 5 Special Olympics, P.O. Box 971, Fishersville, VA 22939.

Lucy Margaret Anderson

NEW MARKET - Lucy Margaret Anderson, 69, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Rose Hill Nursing Home in Berryville.

Mrs. Anderson was born on Jan. 7, 1940, in Culpeper, and was the daughter of the late John Daniel and Gladys Seal Kennedy. She attended the Christ Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Harrisonburg.

She is survived by her stepson, Allan Fitzgerald, her sister, Eleanor Street, her former husband, Jimmy Fitzgerald and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Anderson, and one sister, Shirley Anderson.

A funeral service was conducted on Friday, May 8, at the Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Poling officiating.

Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.

Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper handled the arrangements.

Lydia Carol Jenkins
(April 13, 1945 - March 23, 2013)

Lydia Carol Jenkins, 67, of Broadway, died March 23, 2013 at Timberview Crossings in Timberville.

She was born April 13, 1945 in Keyser, WV and was a daughter of the late Russell B. and Mary Virginia Hott Lambert.

She was an attendant at the Broadway Laundromat and former photographer for Dealers Lot. She attended Faith Baptist Church and was a member of the Timberville Moose Club.

On December 4, 1960 she married Lyle Brooks Jenkins, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 29, 2000.

Surviving are two sons; Russell A. Jenkins and wife Brenda, of Broadway, David S. Jenkins, Sr. and wife Tara, of Broadway, and three grandchildren; David S. Jenkins, Jr. and wife Jessica, of Broadway, Tosha L. Higgs and husband Andrew, of Fulks Run, Chelsea A. Eutsler and husband Shanston, of Broadway.

She was preceded in death by a son; Lyle B. Jenkins, Jr.

Pastor Donald Guthrie will conduct a funeral service Wednesday 2 PM at the Grandle Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway. Burial will follow at Cedar Run cemetery near Broadway.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

Mary Helen Campbell

FRONT ROYAL - Mary Helen Campbell, 82, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Greenfield Senior Living in Strasburg.

Mrs. Campbell was born on Jan. 7, 1927, in Wytheville, and was the daughter of the late Zed L. and Virginia Tarr Tate. She graduated from Marion High School where she was a member of the All State Band as a flutist. She attended Mary Washington College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in home economics from Virginia Tech. She was a teacher of English and home economics. Her passion was raising and arranging flowers as a member of the Valley Garden Club in Front Royal. She also loved to play bridge with her Browntown Bridge Club and many other groups who would get together to play. She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church and enjoyed arranging flowers as a member of the church flower guild.

Mary Helen loved children and was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years. She loved to read and would visit Samuels Library at least once a week. She was a terrific dancer and enjoyed dancing with the dance club and participated in many follies. She was a great lover of music and sang until the very end. Her greatest joy in life was caring for her family and playing with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Eldon E. Campbell of Front Royal; her son, Stuart Russell and wife Lisa Myers Campbell of Chapel Hill, N.C. and David Emerson and wife Lori Shuman Campbell of Cary, N.C.; her daughter and husband Virginia Kate and Richard “Rick” Sowers of Toms Brook; her grandchildren Megan, Allison, and Ethan Sowers of Toms Brook, and Bryan and Matthew Campbell of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister-in-law Marilee Campbell Cyrus of South Charleston, W.Va.; a sister Valerie Bain of Ontario, Canada; and two brothers David and wife Ellen Stewart of Check, and Jim Tate of Canada.

A funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, May 12, at the Calvary Episcopal Church with the Rev. Deborah Rutter officiating. Interment was in Dunmore, W.Va.

Arlie Mae Clem

STRASBURG - Arlie Mae Clem, 86, formerly of Edinburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Clem was born on Sept. 22, 1922, in Shenandoah County, and was the daughter of the late Granville and Maud Sine Funkhouser. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Edinburg and Triplett High School Class of 1942 graduate. She was married on Sept. 18, 1943, to Norman Waldo Clem who predeceased her on Feb. 14, 1994.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne D. Clem of Annandale, Kenneth R. Clem of Houston, Texas and Dennis G. Clem of Alexandria; three sisters, Fleta Moomaw and Ruby Heishman both of Edinburg and Joyce Mowery of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Gretchen Lyons and Eric Clem and one great-granddaughter, April Lyons.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Lauston Funkhouser, Ward Funkhouser and Guy Funkhouser and two sisters, Grace Wetzel and Fern Lytton.

A graveside service was held on Friday, May 8, at the Bethel Lutheran Church cemetery with the Rev. Kenn Nilsen officiating.
