Elizabeth Oraina Cannada, 84, of Providence Forge, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2002. She is survived by seven sons and four daughters, Kenneth E. Adkins and a devoted daughter-in-law, Virginia, Nemo C. (Rochelle), Darrell C. Cannada (Ruby), Vernon D. (Mae), Alton L. (Eleanor), Roosevelt R. (Frances), Elijah W. (Sybil), Dolly M. Adkins (Curtis), Eliouse L. Jones (Alvin), Mamie L. Whitehead (Leon), Zelma D. Wynn (Jesse); daughter-in-law, Bertha L. Cannada; foster daughter, Shirley M. Adkins; foster son, Ray Jones; 44 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Samaria Baptist Church, Charles City, Va., 3 p.m. Sunday. Interment church cemetery. CARNELL
Gloria J. Carnell, 55, of Chesterfield, died June 1, 2002. Survivors include her husband, Richard H. Carnell; two daughters, Deborah Knight and Susie Fanelli; one son, Richard H. Carnell ll; her mother, Dorothy Foust; her brother, Tom Foust; her sister, Cheryl Harper; and her granddaughter, Lindsey Knight. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Road, where the family will receive friends 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Departed this life May 29, 2002, Mrs. Elsie Mae Everette Carter of 1203 S. Meadow St. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Deacon Reginald M. Carter; four loving daughters, Bessie Pat Brown, Lillian C. McCollum, Ellen C. Carter and devoted, Cynthia C. Brown; two granddaughters, Charmayne Vincent and Tahlia N. McCollum; preceded in death by grandson, Corwin L. Brown; one great-grandson, Bobby Vincent III; two sisters, Julia Geneva Johnson and Bessie Burnette Battle; one niece, Jean Everette; one nephew, Thurman M. Smith Jr. and cousins; caring son-in-law, Charlie Brown; grandson-in-law, Bobby Vincent Jr.; one brother-in-law, Fletcher N. Johnson; one sister-in-law, Ida Mae Everette; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral Monday, 1 p.m., Third Street Bethel AME Church, 614 N. 3rd St., where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. Arthur S. Jones, pastor, officiating. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations, assemble at the church 12:45 p.m. Monday.

CHRISTIAN
Mary Elizabeth Copeland Christian, 79, of Richmond, died May 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Edward Christian Jr.; two children, J. Ed Christian III and his wife, Sherry, Barbara C. Woodburn and her husband, Bob; sister, Ruth C. Gallagher; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Lindsey Woodburn. She was a longtime member of North Run Baptist Church, where she was also the church secretary for over 30 years. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will always have a special place in the heart of those who knew her.

CLEMENT
Benjamin F. "Frank" Clement, age 92, died May 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Thomas Clement; one stepdaughter, Maryanna Jenkins Weeks; and two stepgrandsons, Bryan and Casey Weeks. Mr. Clement graduated in 1932 from Virginia Tech, where he received a Masters in Business Administration. He owned Capitol Beverage Co. in Richmond, Va. until 1965. He was a member of First Baptist Church. A private graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on May 28, 2002.

COLEMAN
Mallory Coleman, 85, of Blackstone, Va., died Sunday, May 26, 2002 in Southside Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Mt. Zion R.Z.U.A. in Blackstone, Va. Survivors include his wife, Sarah; son, Milton Bush; brothers, Preston and Wilbert Coleman; sister, Lena Maclin; granddaughter, Candace Bush; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members. Mr. Coleman was the founder and owner of Coleman Construction Company, serving Southside Virginia for over 50 years.

COX
William Jennings Cox, 101, a longtime resident of Norfolk, died at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Virginia Beach, on May 31, 2002. A native of Poquoson, Mr. Cox graduated from the College of William and Mary. He was a high school principal for twenty years in Charles City and New Kent Counties. He retired from the Virginia Department of Rehabilitation. Mr. Cox was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Goddin Cox, and his son, Jennings Goddin Cox. Survivors include his daughter; Anne Cox Brown; his son and daughter-in-law, Edmund Baines Cox and Carolyn Blosser Cox; and his daughter-in-law, Patricia H. Cox; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cox was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Norfolk. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Virginia Beach by Dr. J. Scottie Griffin. Anyone wishing to honor his memory may contribute to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 5767 Sellger Drive, Norfolk. H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments Laskin Road Chapel is handling arrangements.

EARLEY
Thomas B. Earley, 72, retired United States Air Force and a veteran of World War II, died May 31, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan A. Earley; three daughters, Diane E. DeVaney and her husband, John of Ewing, N.J., Barbara G. Earley, Donna E. Guza and her husband, Donald; four sons, Stephen Michael Earley and his wife, Karen, Robert K. Earley, Thomas B. Earley Jr. and his wife, Donna, and Richard A. Earley, all of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Brian, Kara, Erin, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Mary Sage, Sarah; three great-grandchildren, Brittany, Cameron and Cassidy; a sister, Jane Brown of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a niece and nephew, Anna and Bobby. The family will receive visitors Sunday evening at St. Augustine Catholic Church, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a Mass of Resurrection to follow at 7 p.m. Interment will be 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine's Building Fund. Arrangements by the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel.

EDDS
Ronald O. (Doc) Edds, 82, of Glen Allen, went to be with the Lord on May 30, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Norma K. Edds; a daughter, Karen Edds Spencer; two sons and their wives, Daryl K. and Patricia Edds of Glen Allen, Barry L. and Cathy Edds of Mechanicsville; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Edds was a Navy Veteran of WWII, a 1954 graduate of VCU School of Pharmacy. He was the co-owner of Laural Park Pharmacy, worked at Blair's Drugstore, Fairmount and Westbury Pharmacies. He was a long time member of Fairmount Memorial Baptist Church. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. Sarah Katherine Ellis, 86, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Osborne; her nieces, Betsy Tanton and her husband, Tom, Brenda Hatcher, Ann Nuckols and her husband, Lawrence, and Margie Dawson and her husband, Kevin; her nephew, Leroy Ellis; her great-nieces, Lexi Tanton, Sandi Nuckols, Penny Minor, and Sydney Ellis; her great-nephews, Scott Starling, Ryan Hatcher and his wife, Leah, Shannon Hatcher and Gavin Dawson; her great-great-nephews, Ellis Dunn and Larry Dunn; and her loving companions, Wilda Creehan and Sarah Brooks. Family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. this evening at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002. ESCH
Benjamin (Ben) Patrick Esch, 20, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord Friday, May 31, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Glenn William Haight Jr. and Loretta Esch-Haight; sister, Elizabeth Rose Haight of Chesterfield; brothers, Lee A. Haight of Michigan, and Billy Esch of Chesterfield; his girlfriend, Brittany Green of Chesterfield; paternal grandparents, Glenn and Betty Haight Sr. of Michigan; maternal grandfather, Joseph Esch of Michigan; also several aunts and uncles of Colorado and Michigan. The family will receive friends at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10) from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where his funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday. Barbara S. Fogg, 76, died Friday, May 31, 2002. A native of Hampton, she retired from Miller & Rhodes Department Store as a seamstress. She was a lifelong active member of Liberty Baptist Church and a former president of the Women's Missionary Union. She enjoyed the love and companionship of her dogs, Sammy, Heidi, Bubba and Meggy. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Fogg Sr.; and her son, James L. Fogg Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Dianna Fogg Angello and Rebecca Ann Becker, both of Yorktown; her sisters, Audrey E. Saunders and Jacqueline Deavers, both of Hampton; a brother, Thomas E. Saunders of Georgia; three grandchildren, James L. Fogg III, Timothy Fogg and Ronnie Angello; and three great-grandchildren. A special thanks to her caregivers, Annie Tripp and Kay Atwood and to her friends at York Convalescent Center. Also, thanks to the staff and nurses on 4-East at Riverside Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2002 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Liberty Baptist Church, Hampton, with burial to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.

GAINES
Mrs. Isabelle W. Gaines of Alexandria, formerly of Richmond, died May 31, 2002 at her residence. Her remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral notice later.

GROPPE
Ocee Keaton Groppe, 73, of Richmond and Falls Church, Va., passed away Monday, May 27, 2002 at his home in Falls Church. He was originally from the town of West in Texas and settled in the Varina area of Richmond in 1964. A graduate of the University of Texas, he was a mechanical engineer, most recently working in automation research and development for the U.S. Postal Service. He was employed in the profession he loved at the time of his death. He is survived by a daughter, Susan Groppe Mullins of Powhatan; a brother, Henry Groppe of Houston; and a sister, Mae Popp of Willis, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Closner Cemetery, West, Texas, Saturday, June 8, 2 p.m. Arrangements by Aderhold Funeral Home, West, Texas.

HEAK
Ham Sean Heak, 59, of Henrico, was born in Cambodia on January 1, 1943 and passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002. He was well-known within the community and will be missed greatly by his large circle of family and friends. He worked for Rehrig International for 20 years and just recently retired to enjoy time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Heng Chau; father, Vy Eap; two brothers, Sear Eap, Vannak Eap; four sisters, Chhuy Eap, Feung Cheung, Han-Leng Chheth, Kim Yik; his children, Cheng Yeh, Luoy Heap, Miev Carhart, Mei Yeh, and Ee Yeh; his grandchildren, Branden Yam, Michael Yeh, and Michelle Yeh. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday also at Nelsen Funeral Home. Interment Oakwood Cemetery.

HILLQUIST
Sophia Vaughan Hillquist of Richmond, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Louis George Hillquist; daughters, Christina Halsted and Lace Kolmorgan of Richmond, Kathleen Ritchie of Newport News; and her son, David Hillquist of Arcadia, Mo. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Davis, Christina Hanft, Kit Halsted and Mark Kolmorgan; and six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Alexander and Christian Davis, Macaela and Jacob Hanft, and Kate Comer; and three brothers, Maurice, Harold and Horace Vaughan. The family will receive friends Monday, June 3, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, at St. David's Episcopal Church, Providence and Reams Rds., in Chesterfield County. Burial to follow at Dale Memorial Park.

HINES
Elizabeth (Sis) Hudson Hines of Midlothian passed away June 1, 2002 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude L. Hines; and her daughter, Catherine. She is survived by one brother, Willie Hudson of Richmond; one sister, Florence Sparkman of Varina; also one half sister, Goldie McCarty of Tennessee; two half brothers, Linwood Hudson of Georgia and Horace Hudson of California; two stepbrothers, Willard McNeely of Richmond and Scott McNeely of Tennessee. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Eddie Sparkman and his wife, Mary, Denise Haden and her husband, Robert, Carolyn Marrs and her husband, Randy, and Dabney Hudson, and other nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cemetery Fund of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church. She was forever grateful for the love, many kind gifts, and visits from her wonderful neighbors and family.
