Harrison H. Miller

Harrison H. Miller, 77, of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away at home on Jan. 27, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Miller was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Woodstock, son of the late Pearl Hottle Miller and Benjamin Harrison Miller. He married Nina Barber in 1951 in Mill Valley, Calif. He served 31 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a senior master sergeant in 1969. He then worked for El Paso County Department of Transportation, retiring in 1994 after 25 years of service.

Surviving with his wife are three children, Gary Miller, Karen Miller Bailey and Cheryl Miller Cobb; 10 grandchildren; sister, Reba Miller Mingo of Woodstock; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Miller Nevin.

A Memorial Mass was conducted Friday, Feb. 2, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Colorado Springs.

Catherine Long LeDane Murphy

Catherine Long LeDane Murphy, 95, of Martinsburg, W. Va., died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Maryland.

Mrs. Murphy was born Aug. 25, 1911, in Ganotown, W.Va., daughter of the late Charles Thurman and Mazie Slonaker Long. She and her late husband, Slamen D. Murphy, owned and operated Sky View Drive-In Theatre. She was a member of Eustis Church of the Nazarene in Florida, AARP, National Council of Senior Citizens and life member of VFW Post 8087 Ladies Auxiliary in Eustis.

Surviving are a daughter, Peggy LeDane Myers Silvious of Woodstock; son, Charles Robert LeDane Jr. of Conway, S.C.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Feb. 5, at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, by the Rev. Michael Rolan. Burial followed in Rosedale cemetery.

Ashley Megan Myers

WINCHESTER- Ashley Megan Myers, 18, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at Fairfax.

Miss Myers was born June 12, 1988, in Winchester, daughter of Wynnie McKinney Myers of Winchester and Glenn L. Myers of Maurertown. She was a senior at Handley High School. She was a varsity cheerleader, outfielder on the softball team and member of the Hilltops. She was employed by T.J. Maxx in Winchester.

Surviving with her parents are a brother, Brandon L. McKinney of Winchester; grandparents, Lawrence A. and Mary “Punky” McKinney of Wardensville, W.Va., and Harold Myers of Pennsylvania.

The funeral was conducted Friday, Feb. 2, at Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church by the Rev. James L. Rousey. Private inturnment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evans Home for Children, 330 E. Leicester St., Winchester, VA 22601.

Vivian Hope Poole

MOUNT JACKSON- Vivian Hope Poole, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Poole was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Hepners, daughter of the late Oscar Weldon and Annie Belle Rinker Lamma. She was the chairman of Shenandoah County Search Inc., administrator of the Search Group Home in Mount Jackson and the Thrift Shop. She had been listed in “Who’s Who of American Volunteers” and selected as Mount Jackson Citizen of the Year. She was a member of Morning Star Lutheran Church and the wife of the late Preston Poole.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Bowman of Dunlap, Tenn., and Richard H. Bowman of Richmond; three daughters, Ginger Rich of Eads, Tenn., Doris Brackenrich of Franklin, W.Va., and Jeanie Poole of Mount Jackson; two stepdaughters, Beverly Allison of Manassas and Faith Wakefield of Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Lydia Baker of Broadway and Anna Belle Hinegardner of Timberville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great great-grandchild.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Morning Star Lutheran Church by the Revs. Richard Krasneck and Scott J. Paradise. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Edith Lorraine Reedy

FULKS RUN- Edith Lorraine Reedy, 72, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Harrisonburg Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she was a resident for several weeks. She battled a courageous fight against a debilitating stroke which she suffered Dec. 15, 2006.

Mrs. Reedy was born March 17, 1934, in Rockingham County, daughter of the late Owen Isaac and Helen Conley Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Milford E. Reedy, who passed away Nov. 19, 2004.

Mrs. Reedy had attended Genoa School in Fulks Run. She worked for H.D. Lee Company and Rockingham Poultry for several years, and later she and her husband purchased the Reedy Poultry Farm, which she helped to manage for over 25 years. She also was the caregiver for her late husband for six years prior to his death. She was a member of Hebron Mennonite Church in Fulks Run and was a woman of great faith in God. She was an avid gardener, loved traveling, flowers, and enjoyed the beauty and tranquility of nature. She will always be remembered for her friendly smile, hard work, and dedication to her family, friends, farm and animals.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Dennis Reedy, who passed away March 5, 1994.

Surviving are a son, Lonnie A. Reedy and wife Faye of Fulks Run; daughter, Christal E. Reedy of Fulks Run; daughter-in-law, Sally B. Reedy of Fulks Run; three grandchildren, Victor E. and Carrie L. Reedy, both of Fulks Run, and Laura Reedy Wolfe of Woodstock; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Wolfe; four brothers, Eugene, Chester, Earl and Ronnie Phillips, all of Fulks Run.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Mount Grove Church of the Brethren, Fulks Run, with Pastors Donald Bare and Glen Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Grove cemetery.

Linda L. Ryman

MIDDLETOWN- Linda L. Ryman, 62, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Ryman was born Oct. 6, 1944, in Warren County, daughter of Lucian Lee and Lena Oden Kerns. She was an administrative assistant with Lehew Drilling Company and had retired in 2004 from BB&T after 30 years. She attended Meadowbrook Freewill Baptist Church in Middletown and was a member of Eagles Aerie 824 Auxiliary and Women of the Moose.

She married Alton E. “Al” Ryman on May 6, 2000, at Blandy Farm.

Surviving with her husband are three children, Dale Robertson of Batesburg, S.C., Larry Robertson of Winchester and Janet Olechnicki of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Brandy Prieto of Strasburg; three sisters, Phyllis Starkey of Springfield, W.Va., Mary Snyder of Florida and Anna Campbell of Winchester; a brother, Donald Kerns of Winchester; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, Winchester, with Layman Glenn Welsh and Pastor Jeff Sowers officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum, Frederick County.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Bennett, Lee Robertson, Tim Bly, Sammy Orndorff, and Robert Brill.

Louis Lee Silveus

EDINBURG- Louis Lee Silveus, 68, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007.

Mr. Silveus was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Richmond, son of the late Randall and Helen Silveus Jordan. He was raised by his grandmother, the late Patricia “Lettie” Silveus. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are his wife, Dolly May Silveus; son, Donald Wayne Silveus of Edinburg; daughter Joyce Ann Silveus of Edinburg; three sisters, Alice Hoover, Linda Heishman and Kay Jordan, all of Mount Jackson; three brothers, Ralph Silvious of Mount Jackson, Jerry Jordan of Woodstock and Gary Jordan of Edinburg.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, Feb. 3, at Columbia Furnace Church of the Brethren, by the Rev. William Fitchett. Burial was in Massanutten cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 220601.

Mary Elizabeth Tarry

FRONT ROYAL- Mary Elizabeth Tarry, 90, formerly of Lebanon Church, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at The Southerlands in Front Royal.

Mrs. Tarry was born Dec. 7, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of John J. Tarry and Alverda Priscilla Cornog Tarry. She was married to the late John J. Tarry Sr., her loving and devoted husband of 56 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith L. T. DeLaney of Front Royal and her husband James, and Nancy A. T. Hedin of Lansing, Mich. and her husband Perry; a son, John Jay Tarry Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla. and his wife Marcia; two grandsons, Lars F. Hedin and Jared J. DeLaney and his wife Wendi; and a great-granddaughter, Cadence E. DeLaney.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia T. McManus.

Virginia State Senator William A. Truban

Virginia State Senator William A. Truban, 82, died on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007.

Senator Truban was known by many in the 27th Senatorial District as “Senator Truban.” As a practicing veterinarian for over 50 years, he was known in Shenandoah County as “Doc.” However, to those who loved him most, he was known simply as “Pap.”

Senator Truban was first elected in the Virginia State Senate in 1970 and served for 21 years, longer than any other state senator serving this district. For a large part of that time he served as Senate Minority Leader, and was always a loyal member of the Republican Party. He always believed in fiscal responsibility and felt that his single biggest achievement was the establishment of the Rainy Day Fund. As a member of the Senator Finance Committee, he was influential in developing Virginia’s fiscal policy for more than a decade.

Bill Truban was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Garrett County, Md. He served during World War II in the United States Army Air Force in the Burma Theater and was awarded three Bronze Stars. Following the war, he attended college at West Virginia Wesleyan, where he met his future wife, Mildred Hayes, and upon graduating, attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He set up veterinary practice in 1953 and opened Shenandoah Animal Hospital, which has been open continuously since then. The family tradition has continued under his son, Dr. Thomas Truban.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Mildred H. Truban; six children, John W. Truban and wife Cheryl L. and William A. Truban Jr. and wife Selena H., all of Winchester, David H. Truban and wife Judith S. of Mount Airy, N.C., and Rebecca Truban Cooper and husband John B., Peter A. Truban and wife Deborah R., and Thomas S. Truban and wife Melissa O., all of Woodstock; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Leo Truban of Easton, Md.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Lewis of Winchester and Gladys Harvey of Easton, Md.; and a brother, Toby Truban of Garrett County, Md.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Woodstock United Methodist Church.

"Pap" Norlyn Phillip Curry
(February 19, 1935 - September 15, 2012)

"Pap" Norlyn Phillip Curry, 77, of Dayton, was reunited with his wife on what would have been their 56th wedding anniversary, Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Norlyn was born in Rockingham County on February 19, 1935, and was a son of the late Alfred Lee and Myrl (Grogg) Curry.

He retired from Dunham Bush after 29 years of service, a member of Spring Creek Church of the Nazarene in Bridgewater, and a board member of the Briery Branch Community Center.

On September 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruby Jane (Losh) Curry, who preceded him in death on September 18, 1985.

Norlyn is survived by three daughters, Linda Lambert and husband Carl of Bridgewater, Brenda Floyd and husband Alvin of Dayton, Glenda Wenger and husband Dale of Dayton, and; a son, Billy Curry and wife Donna of Craigsville; two sisters, Judy Curry of Dayton, and Helen Minnick and husband Jim of Dayton; two brothers, Larry Curry and wife Sharon of Bridgewater, and Wayne Curry and wife Alberta of Smyrna, DE; two sisters-in-laws Betty and Mildred Curry both of Harrisonburg He is also survived by five grandchildren, Brandon Lambert, Wesley Wenger, Miranda Williamson, Whitney Mohamed, and Jairus Curry; four great grandchildren, Dawson, Jenna, Alivia, and Baraka; and special friends, Lane and Gloria Long.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Junior, Donald, and Harold Curry, and a sister, Norma Curry.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren in Dayton, with Pastor Billy Curry and Pastor Randy Cosner officiating. Burial will follow at Briery Branch Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, or at the home of Brenda Floyd anytime.

William Frederick Watkins Sr.

William Frederick Watkins Sr., 83, of Frederick, Md., died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy, Md.

Mr. Watkins was born May 21, 1923, in New Market, son of the late Clifford and Edna Watkins. He was a carpenter for Floyd Culler Contracting of Frederick and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, June B. Miller Watkins, formerly of Winchester; four children, William F. Watkins Jr. and Steven Watkins, both of Myersville, Teresa Palmer of Middletown and David Watkins of New Market; three stepchildren, Russell Oates of Martinsburg, W.Va., Cindy Barbee of Purcellville and David Oates of Yellow Springs; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a number of step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four siblings, Clifford Watkins Jr., Charles Atkins, Paul Watkins and Charlotte Zimmerman.

A funeral was conducted Saturday, Feb. 3, at Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church, Frederick, by Pastor John F. Armstrong Jr. Burial was private in Providence cemetery, Kemptown.
