HOBBS
Priscilla S. Hobbs departed this life May 30, 2002. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell R. Sherman. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth U. Hobbs Sr.; one son, Kenneth U. Hobbs Jr.; one daughter, Keturah D. Hobbs; one stepdaughter, Stephanie D. Hobbs; her mother, Sylvia B. Sherman; sister, Deborah Campbell (Michael); brother, Fitzgerald Sherman; grandmother, Mary Bullock; two nieces, Michelle Campbell and Edia Clark; one nephew, Michael Campbell III; one great-nephew, Tyler J. Campbell; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; mother-in-law, Eva S. Hobbs; other relatives and friends, among them one devoted friend, Latrelle Green. Her remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Sunday, 3 to 5 p.m. Remains will lie in state Monday 12 noon at Faith Landmark Ministries, 8491 Chamberlayne Rd., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Pastor James Randy Gilbert, Pastor. Eulogy by Pastor Ferrell Brown. Burial Hanover Memorial Park.

HODGES
Sophia "Su" Hodges, 97, Assistant to the Dean of the Evening College and a professor of English at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond until her retirement in 1975, died of respiratory arrest May 20, 2002, at the Hermitage in Northern Virginia. Mrs. Hodges was born in Crawford, Nebraska and moved to Arlington after her marriage to the late Lt. Col. Raymond C. Hodges in 1946. Mrs. Hodges separated from the United States Army in 1946 with the rank of Major. Her husband returned to his position with Virginia Electric and Power in Alexandria, and was subsequently moved to positions in Fredericksburg and Richmond where they moved in 1958. Mrs. Hodges began her career in college administration at Chadron State College in Nebraska, where she had earlier earned her Bachelor's Degree. She earned her Master's Degree in Education from Stanford University in 1932, and returned to Chadron where she served as Registrar until 1938. From 1938 to 1942 she served as Secretary to the Dean of Arts and Sciences at the University of Denver. She then joined the newly organized WACS in their first class of the Officer Candidate School. She served assignments in Florida, Texas and Oklahoma until 1946. After the death of her husband in 1961, she returned to college administration at VCU. In 1967, she moved to the Imperial Plaza Retirement Community where she lived until 1999. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the International Torch Club and she traveled extensively with the Stanford University Alumni Travel Seminar Programs. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was active as a Church School teacher and leader at Clarendon United Methodist Church in Arlington and at Ginter Park United Methodist Church in Richmond. Survivors include her devoted niece, Carolyn E. Balcom of Sterling, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in her native Nebraska and in Germany. A memorial service will be held at the Hermitage in Northern Virginia in Alexandria, on June 11, 2002, at 11 a.m. with her remains to be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the United Methodist Homes, Inc., at 7113 Three Chopt Road, Suite 300, Richmond, Va. 23226. KINSLEY
Norbert E. Kinsley, 80, of Richmond, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2002. He was the widower of Verona B. Kinsley and is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Steve and Cheryl Henry of Bath, Ohio, Ray and Dee Birk of Richmond, Va.; granddaughters, Jessica and Brady Birk and Jillian Henry; grandson, Matt Henry; sister, Mrs. Audrey Johnson; brother, Orville Kinsley and his wife, Ruth; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kinsley was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mayo Foundation, c/o Development Dept.; Diabetes Research, 200 First Street S.W.; Rochester, Minn. 55905.

LEWIS
Mr. Hugh Garnett Lewis, Jr., 72, of Stony Creek, died Friday, May 31, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Lou Leonard Lewis; one son, H. G. Lewis III and wife, Kay; son-in-law, David Rideout; five grandchildren, Jamie Lewis, Chuckie Lewis, Kevin Rideout, Louise Rideout and Katie Lewis; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Lewis, Carter Lewis, Austin Lewis and Gracie Lewis; two brothers, Gordon Lewis and wife, "T", Roy Lewis and wife, Violet; four sisters, Elaine Mayes, Virginia Cox, Catherine Knepper and Helen Sturdivant; a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Lewis Rideout. The family will receive friends at the residence. The funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt with interment to follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.

MARTIN
Henry Woodrow Martin, 89, of Chester, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lucille Martin; a sister, Ethel Eggleston; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Martin was retired from the Maintenance Department at Allied-Signal and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park, with the Rev. Beverly McDowell officiating.

McALLISTER
Edna D. McAllister, age 79, formerly of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Dothan, Alabama, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl F. Greene Sr.; and Charles H. McAllister. She is survived by two children, Colleen Greene and Carl F. Greene Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kimberly W. Greene; granddaughters, Ginger Greene Perry and Michelle Lewis; grandsons, Charles W. Blalock, and Nicholas, Christopher, and Patrick Greene; great-granddaughter, Morgan Lewis; sisters, Lilian Shute, Dothan, Alabama, Estelle Arnold, Columbus, Georgia; and brother, Joe Drew, Ozark, Alabama. She was a member of London Bridge Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Va., and Mt. Gilead Baptist Church of Dothan, Ala. All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Parkinsons Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation. MILLER
Franklin Miller, 82, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 26, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Mindy Miller Hart of Mechanicsville; two grandchildren, Jenifer Rae Hart and her fiance, Jason VanFossen and Jonathan Franklin Wayne Hart; a sister, Elizabeth Lamar of Louisville, Kentucky and two nieces, Elizabeth Boetsch and Kathy Watson. Mr. Miller was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from the American Tobacco Company after 43 years of service. MONCURE
Louise Mason Moncure, born March 14, 1919, in Lynchburg, Va., died gently Thursday, May 30, 2002. Louise taught in the Henrico County school system for 50 years and was an avid bridge player. Louise was awarded the Life Membership in United Methodist Women's Association. Louise was the next youngest offspring of Maude Roberts Mason and Oscar Lee Mason. She was preceded in death by both her husband, Walter R.D. Moncure Jr.; and her son, W.R. Daniel Moncure III. She is survived by two daughters, Louise Moncure Lafoon (Bill), Ann M. Arkesteyn (John); three sons, Terry Randolph Moncure (Kim), Mark Spencer Moncure (Janet), Travers Lee Moncure (Ruth Ann) and Hunter Jordan Moncure. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends. Louise will be remembered and loved as a free spirit and wonderful mother. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 3, 2002, 2 p.m. at Lakeside United Methodist Church, corner of Lawrence and Hilliard Roads, Richmond. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Westminster-Canterbury.

MOORE
Frances M. Moore of Midlothian, formerly of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord May 31, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert C. Moore; sons, Robert C. Moore Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Todd Moore of Tulsa, Okla. and George L. Moore and his wife, Carol B. Moore of Richmond; grandchildren, Grace E. Moore of Tulsa, Okla., Evan T. Moore and Laura A. Moore, both of Richmond; a brother, Walter L. Martin of Fairfield, Va. Mrs. Moore was a member of Woodlake United Methodist Church. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Westhampton Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.

MOORE
Mrs. Shirley Mae Moss Moore, 77, of Severn, widow of Ernest "Ernie" Moore, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Virgil Gaines Moss and Epsie Green Moss Patterson, and was also preceded in death by four sisters, Peggy Grigg, Dessie Moss, Hilda Patterson, and Brenda Canipe. She is survived by two daughters, Anne Harris and husband, Stanley of Severn, N.C., Linda Faulkner and husband, Pete of Winterville, N.C.; two sisters, Janice Bronson of Shelby, N.C., and Patricia Lankford of Pembroke, N.C.; four grandchildren, Robin Tudor of Emporia, Va., Eddie Moore of Severn, N.C., Jennifer Woodson of Ayden, N.C., Melanie Woodson of Burlington, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Tracy Tudor of Emporia, Va., Shannon and Matthew Moore of Severn, N.C., and Jacob Moore Woodson of Ayden, N.C.; one great-great-granddaughter, Brittany Wrenn of Emporia, Va.; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Va. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Severn Baptist Church, Severn, N.C., followed by the interment service, 1 p.m. at Gardens of Emporia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.

MOTT
Lillian G. "Lily" Mott, 100, formerly of Tuckerton, N.J., died on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield. Born in England, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Tellwright Elson, and the widow of James H. Mott. Mrs. Mott was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tuckerton, the Eastern Star and the United Methodist Women's Association. She is survived by two sons, Jerry A. Mott of Williamsburg, Jim H. Mott and wife, Donna L. of Midlothian; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 in the chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, Colonial Heights. The Reverend Donna Mott will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tuckerton United Methodist Church, 157 N. Green St., Tuckerton, N.J. 08087.

MUMFORD
Jennie Yeates Mumford, 72, of Chase City, widow of Bailey Yeates and Calvin Mumford, died May 31, 2002. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Anne Y. and Earl Honeycutt of Clarksville; two sisters, Alene Davis, Chase City, Mary Gough, Richmond, Irene Sears, Sandston; two brothers, John Green and Bob Green, both of Richmond; grandson and his wife, Larry and Jennifer Hayes; one great-grandchild, Brittany Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Leon Green and Junior Green. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at Newcomb Allgood Davis Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, with interment in Woodland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member.

Edith Nelson Phipps of Richmond died peacefully Tuesday, May 28, 2002. She was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of David and Edith Nelson. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ralph G. Phipps; four daughters, Melinda Sexton and husband, Bruce, Pamela Zell and husband, Michael, Suzanne Renney and husband, Bill, Joan Epstein and husband, David; one son, John David and wife, Ann; 11 grandchildren; four sisters, Elvy Johnson, Greta Chambers, Elaine Hofert and Joan Blewett. Edith was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 3, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 11551 Lucks La., Midlothian, Va. 23113, with reception to follow in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226 or The Adult Choir of St. Mark's United Methodist Church.

POLLARD
Deaconess Jean C. Pollard of 2210 Cheatham St. departed this life Tuesday, May 28, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Franklin Pollard Sr.; two sons, Franklin Jr. and Rex; one daughter, Carolyn; two sisters, two brothers, four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday (today), 1:30 p.m. from Morning Star Baptist Church, 3509 Midlothian Tnpk. Remains will lie in state prior to funeral services, Rev. Dr. J.I. McCrary Jr. officiating Interment Roselawn Memory Garden. Family and friends kindly assemble at the church at 1 p.m. Professional services provided by Crawley Funeral Home, 3810 Meadowbridge Rd.

POOLE
Emma Davidson "Pete" Poole, widow of Rev. C. Knox Poole of Richmond, died on Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her niece, Anne Davidson Carwile; and two nephews, Robert L. Davidson Jr. and William S. Davidson; several great-nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 3, 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
