Donnie Lee Sites, 63

Linville - Donnie L. Sites 63 of 6192 Kratzer Road Linville died August 30, 2009 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sites was born September 21, 1945 in Franklin, West Virginia and was the son of the late Perry L. and Laura Jane Propst Sites.

Mr. Sites recently retired from James Madison University and was currently employed part-time with Custom Deliveries. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with a great love for the outdoors. Mr. Sites loved his family and pet’s dearly. He attended the Maranatha Church of God.

On March 1, 1964 he married Juanita Orebaugh, who survives.

Also surviving are one son; Richard L. Sites and wife Connie of Broadway, four sisters; Evelyn Judy of Strasburg, Linda Lyons and husband John of Shennandoah, Mary Sites of Hinton and Jesse Hartman of Franklin, W.Va.; two Grandchildren, Ashlee Adair Sites and Brandon Hunter Sites.

The Reverend’s Roger Chandler, Roger Austin and Richard Early will conduct a Memorial Service on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Mcmullen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service. Burial will be Private.

Friends may call at the McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. At the families request the casket will be closed.

Scott Gregory

STAUNTON, Va. — Steven Scott Gregory, 37, died unexpectedly at his residence at 24 Montgomery Road, Oct. 15, 2011.

To his remote-control friends and competitors he was “DEMON DOG.” This was his true passion. If it were racing or sitting for hours with tiny parts everywhere, he was in his element.

He was born Sept. 18, 1974, in Staunton, a son of Jackie W. Robinson of Staunton and the late James Steven Gregory.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, William E. Robinson Sr.; a stepbrother, William E. Robinson Jr. (JR) at home; his daughter, Amber, and her mother, Misty Kyle, of Waynesboro; maternal grandmother, Wilma Wimer of Staunton; and his “soul mate,” Kim Snyder of Waynesboro, who cared for and supported him through the good days and bad. He also had numerous extended family members.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Gerlin Wimer, and paternal grandparents, James and Naomi Gregory of Craigsville.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. John Wampler.

Family night will be conducted from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at Henry Funeral Home, where we will share memories and celebrate his life as only he knew how to do. There was never a dull moment around him.

Per his wishes, he was cremated and we ask all family and friends to dress in casual attire for both events. Those wishing will be welcome at his mother’s residence, 1201 Montgomery Ave., Staunton.

Bonnie F. Ashton

Bonnie Faye Gallaher Ashton, 72, of Morgantown, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Brownsville, Pa., a daughter of the late Harold and Norma Stevenson Gallaher.

She was the best friend and beloved wife of 50 years to John Ashton of Morgantown. She is also survived by her four children, Christopher Allan Ashton and his wife, Carrie, of Harrisonburg, Va., Edward Andrew Ashton and his wife, Jennifer, of Rochester, N.Y., Jeffrey Daniel Ashton and his wife, Leslea, of Proctorville, Ohio, and Jennifer Michelle Snider and her husband, William, of Charleston, W.Va.; one brother, Ron Gallaher and his wife, Marie, of Findlay, Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Harold Gallaher Jr., who passed away in 2011.

Friends and family may visit the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at 4 p.m. with David H. Rockwood officiating.

Cremation services, under the direction of Ford Funeral Home, will be conducted following the service.

Judith Dean

Judith 'Judy' Ann Dean, 65, of Elkton, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Dean was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Page County, and was the daughter of Edna Good Breeden of Shenandoah and the late Harry Breeden.

She graduated from Page County High School. She owned and operated Judy's Flowers & Gifts in Elkton for many years and did a lot of craft shows around the area. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in the Fleeburg area and also attended the Upper Room Church in Elkton and the Assembly of God in Shenandoah.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William 'Sonny' Dean, whom she married May 14, 1962; a son, Billy Dean of Elkton; a daughter, Angie Anderson of Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Ronnie Breeden of Shenandoah; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Barbara Hensley and Pastor Carter Dean will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at the Upper Room Church in Elkton. Burial will follow at Elk Run cemetery in Elkton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Upper Room Church or at the Dean home at any time.

Arrangements are by Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

Anne Yancey Edwards

Anne Stith Dechert Yancey Edwards, 90, of Ruxton Nursing Home in Richmond, died Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Mrs. Edwards was born May 5, 1918, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late Harry Lee and Laura Wise Dechert.

She graduated from St. Margaret's High School in Tappahanock and attended the Traphagen School of Arts and Design.

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard B. Yancey, and Thomas G. Edwards.

Survivors include a son, Philo Bradley Yancey II of Henrico, N.C.; a daughter, Susan Anne Yancey-Disbrow of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodbine cemetery in Harrisonburg with the Rev. Jim Kite officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Arrangements are by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Henry C. Hisey Jr.

Henry Clyde "H.C." Hisey Jr., 86, of Elkton, died Saturday, May 10, 2008, at Sunnyside Presbyterian Home.

Mr. Hisey was born Feb. 25, 1922, in Shenandoah, Va., and was the son of the late Henry Clyde and Clarice Baker Hisey.

He attended Elon College and was a graduate of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla.

Mr. Hisey served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

Following the war, Mr. Hisey moved to Elkton. In the late 1940s, he and his twin brother, Robert Lee "Bobby" Hisey II, started the Hisey Mink Farm, a business they continued to operate until the early 1960s.

On Oct. 4, 1952, he married Alice Baker Hisey, who died on March 11, 2004. Throughout their marriage, they were inseparable companions who shared many interests, hobbies and adventures.

Mr. Hisey retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Commerce as a federal-state market news reporter.

He was an Elkton resident for more than 50 years and was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 450 in Harrisonburg for more than 50 years and was a lifetime member of the Gooden Brothers VFW Post No. 9292 and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Mr. Hisey loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. In later years, he and his wife, Alice, enjoyed metal detecting and took great pleasure in being able to return jewelry they found to its original owners. He was interested in the history of the Shenandoah Valley. During the 1960s he and his wife restored a 200-year-old log cabin in the Dean Mountain area.

Surviving are two sons, Henry Clyde Hisey III and wife, Margie, of Keezletown and Riedel Scott Hisey and wife, Denise, of Elkton; a daughter, Clarice Mae Hisey Armentrout and husband, Dana, of Harrisonburg; a sister, Barbara Hisey Trevett of Richmond; five grandchildren, Brook Hisey, Riedel Scott Hisey Jr., Alison Armentrout Crosby and husband, Thomas "Tommy," Forrest Hisey and Daniel Hisey; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hisey is preceded in death by his twin brother.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Elkton United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at the Methodist cemetery in Shenandoah.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 12, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elkton Rescue Squad, the Elkton Fire Department or the RMH Hospice.

Wayne Gooden

Wayne Allen Gooden, 68, of 3239 Northview Lane, Elkton, VA 22827, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ at his home on Monday, May 19, 2008, after a battle with cancer that was diagnosed in October 2007. He previously became disabled in September 2000 from a Multi-Bilateral Pulmonary Embolism.

He was born Oct. 27, 1939, in Elkton, and was the son of the late Marjorie Gooden Hall.

On Aug. 2, 1961, in Orange, Va., he married his beloved wife, Patricia Ann Kirby, who survives. He is also survived by his only child, Roxanna Lynn Gooden Howdyshell and her husband, Benny, of Penn Laird, Va.; and two precious grandsons, Philip Wayne Gooden and Christopher Allen Gooden, who reside with their mother.

Wayne was a 1958 graduate of Elkton High School, where his classmates nicknamed him 'Pudge.' He was also known by family and friends as 'Sonny.' He served in the United States Navy as a Radioman Seaman from 1959 to 1961. From 1972 until 2000 he was a cemetery Salesman for Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg, Va., Holly Memorial Gardens, Monticello Memory Gardens, and Riverview cemetery, all in Charlottesville, Va. His passion was attending church at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle in Elkton, where he was a Deacon, Trustee, and Musician; playing the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and banjo since 1973 until the present. As a memorial tribute the Acts 2:38 Special that he played and wrote will be played at his service in his honor.

The Rev. Ronald Spencer and the Rev. Homer Frazier will conduct the service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Full Gospel Lighthouse Tabernacle, 18132 Spotswood Trail in Elkton. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with graveside rites by the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends and family may also visit at his home at anytime.

Nelson Armstrong

Nelson Liskey Armstrong, 81, of Harrisonburg, died Thursday, May 22, 2008.

Mr. Armstrong was born March 24, 1927, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Loa and Lida Liskey Armstrong.

He was a lifetime resident of the area and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years as the Keezletown and Penn Laird "Mail Man." He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the BPOE No. 450 Lodge in Harrisonburg, past master of the Rockingham Union Lodge No. 27 in Harrisonburg, and past president of Valley Shrine Club. He was a five gallon donor of blood at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

His wife of 58 years, Anna Jean Sipe Armstrong, preceded him in death June 3, 2006.

He is survived by three sons, Richard L. Armstrong of Harrisonburg, David W. Armstrong of Mount Crawford and Paul D. Armstrong of Weyers Cave; and five grandchildren.

Pastor Ann Pettit and Pastor John Leggett will conduct the funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at Massanutten Presbyterian Church in Penn Laird. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1477, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

Nelma Shepard

Nelma Pearl Shepard, 83, of Keezletown, died April 18, 2008, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Mrs. Shepard was born June 2, 1924, in Lebanon, Va., and was the daughter of the late Charles H. and Nannie Shoemaker Buckles.

Mrs. Shepard was a homemaker and had worked at Shenandoah Poultry and retired after 20 years with Dunham Bush. She loved to cook and enjoyed family gatherings, Bingo and gardening. She was a former member of the Corner Baptist Church in Russell County, Va.

On Jan. 25, 1945, she married Bert M. Shepard, who died Sept. 4, 1993. She is survived by sons, Jim Shepard and wife, Carolyn, Steve Shepard and wife, Jeanette, all of Harrisonburg; daughters, Judy McDonaldson, Fishersville, Wanda Hensley, Penn Laird; a brother, Garnett Buckles, Lebanon; sisters, Florence Thompson, Richmond, Evelyn Robinson, Tazewell; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and her dog, Drake.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Shepard was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Shepard.

Pastor Fredric Miller and Pastor Terry Koons will conduct the funeral 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charlie Shepard Jr., Jim Shepard Jr., Brian Shepard, Mike Armentrout, Chris Armentrout, Gary Hensley Jr. and Cliff Baker.

The family will receive friends Monday (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Youth Fund at Mount Olive Brethren Church, 2977 Pineville Road, McGaheysville, VA 22840.
